Punkin,

I carry mine in my pocket and never have experienced a "wild" day. So, I wouldn't change from the shoelaces unless you have gotten some out of range results.

I have been wearing mine clipped to my shoe laces. Should I go back to wearing it on my bra?

2012ANewMe, where are you wearing your Zip? Sometimes people get false extra steps or miss steps if they have it loose in a pocket and extra false steps if worn in a sock. Make sure you are wearing it in one of the approved areas--ideally somewhere snug against your torso so it can "feel" your movements but not move independently of you. Also, were you driving a lot of operating some sort of vibrating machinery? I don't generally get false steps in cars, but some do depending on the car or route. Similar with golf carts, mopeds, and possibly other machinery.

If none of those, I would suggest emailing fitbit's customer service. There might be something wrong with your fitbit. I think your high distance comes from the high step count--so the issue to address is getting a reasonably accurate step count for your actual activity.

Well mine is more than just calories. It tells me that I walked like 50 miles. I'm good, but I'm not that good. Lol

If you are referring to calories burned per FB, that is probably correct. It is a total burn, including your BMR.

Ok. Since it is intermittent, that probably would be the cause, anyway.

Thank you, I looked but don't see that option :( It normally works great but a couple of times it has really been way off.

I doubt this is the cause, but I would check my "personal info" under settings and make sure there isn't a very low stride length listed. (default is no data).

I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with their fit bit calculating the right amount of steps. I had it on for about 30 min today and it said that I had walked 40,000+ steps. Two days ago it said that I walked 80,000+ steps... Way off - any suggestions?

Yep I wondered that too when I started min up 6 days ago so I searched for the answer and and it is that you are burning calories all the time not just when you are exercising:)

I think that happens to every user. You get the thing, get it set up, and presto!, where the heck did those 500 calories burned come from? The box?

Wow! I feel rather sheepish now...should have thought about the fact there would be a manual available online. I just printed it off and read the whole thing. Answered all my questions and more. Can't wait to see what my day turns out with this new data! Thanks for your help Paul.

Even without the sleep function, it is estimating a calorie burn, assuming you are more likely to be asleep at 3am than running a marathon!

The FitBit Zip doesn't have a sleep function though....

There is a manual? Suppose I should read that - lol!

I have my FitBit Zip now but I can't figure out why the calories burned is way, way off. Before I'd ever even put it on, it said I'd burned 400 calories yesterday. This morning is says 547 and I've barely even moved yet today. Anyone else experiencing this? The steps and miles are almost twice as much as my Omron pedometer that I've used the past two years. I hope I've not been that far off all this time...or that the FitBit is that far off!
