'yeah i have a split level house so i have 7 stairs between levels, but FitBit does not regester Stairs unless you go a full flight of them, because it works with altimeter, it see how high up you go, not really the step ups. and it does not count down, only up. so mine only count if i start at the bottom and go up all the way to the top level, or if i am away from home using a regular stair case. a typical floor, is about 10- 12 feet. anywhere from 12- 16 stair steps.

I haven't figured out the stair thing either. When I was moving I was up and down stairs multiple times and it never counted them and then I have had days that I don't go up or down any and it has shown multiple flights.

Someone said something about it not recording their steps after a few and they have looked at it. Most pedometers don't record until you've taken about 10 steps. I don't think the FB is that bad. I know that I have plenty of steps in on average by days end. I think that once you have started to move that it adds those steps in.

I have 5 into my home and when going up and down loading/unloading my van.. it does not count it- I would say I do it about 10Xs when I am busy... today I shop for the month - so up and down about 10xs each and nothing on the FB tracker for it ??? no biggy - got in 7,000 steps and with the neuropathy pain .. thats good for me... will always be under 10 normally

I've had the FitBit One for a couple of weeks now & I have problems with the syncing of it. I've had to reload it on my computer which meant I lost the first few days (which were the best for me). Now I have to turn my computer off & back on for it to resynic. I also look at it after I go a few steps & they are not counted, so it makes me wonder if it's counting all my steps. Anyone else having any problems like these?

So far I've been pretty happy with my FitBit Zip. I've only made it to 10,000 steps twice, but I'm working on it. It seems to be working the way it should, and I like how it syncs with SP.

I did notice if you go to the Spark fitness page there is a link to click
"sync Fitbit for today"
it forces a resync.

to correct or enter or resync fitbit steps lets say, from the past days. (my fitbit stores a week in its memory) just go to spark fitness page, then tab over to the previous day. you should see a link that says "sync fitbit for 11/7" etc. Just be sure to enter and sync your fitbit on its dashboard before you do this. add any activities that you didn't use the stop watch for ( like my swimming) and then sync with spark.

just like when I joined sp and now just joined the fitbit family..... there is an awful lot to learn and figure out...... I just got my Zip on Monday....... and at first was disappointed that it had me enter height, weight and pounds I want to lose and it came up with it's own calorie intake/burn etc..... and I wanted to use what I've been using on sp........ but then I figured out yesterday how you can change the goals on fb for my Zip and enter the calories you want and the step target you want..... etc....... and that made me feel better....... one of my sp friends told me how to access the manual on the fb website and that answered some of my questions.

I had trouble last night getting it to sync the steps from fb to sp...... I walked 10600 steps and it only wanted to sync 8368...... I went to sp fitness and told it to sync with Zip and it still didn't want to update my step count... it showed 10600 on the Zip...... it showed 10600 on the fb site but it just wouldn't come over to sp.... so I went ahead and manually changed it on the sp page and I don't see where it hurt anything ..... but I'm hoping it does it on it's own ..... I like the sync between the 2

I like the "different" activities on the fb site that weren't on the sp page.... but it didn't have the gazelle and I use that most of the time especially in winter......

I see some people asked about food..... I've had positive results with fb getting the food I enter in sp........ foods that fb didn't have it still picks up from sp........ I love that!

So far I'm really impressed with my little ZIP in it's pretty green color......... and it's giving me the information I wanted from it........ steps and calorie burn for the day......

but this is my 2nd full day and so far so good! I'm pleased with my little green Zip!

soo... " the number provided by FB includes all of your FAIRLY ACTIVE MINUTES and your VERY ACTIVE MINUTES." I guess I'm somewhat screwed for tracking fitness in spark. i'll watch it, but since I am not very active and am just starting to build my strength I am usually lightly active, and then fairly active only during my walks. and since i use the FB ultra it is removed for swimming.

so one more question, i thought since i synced them today that my workout and activities for the week would show up but it says zero. so does it only record exercise from this moment on?

it will be interesting to see how it will work.

SO, maybe this time?

Fitbit 1 -- I washed it. It didn't revive, even with the rice trick. I contacted Fitbit and they sent me a free replacement. They were wonderful.
Fitbit 2 -- I sweat so much in a workout that it died, too. It didn't revive, either. I didn't tell Fitbit because I figured they'd already replaced one free.
Fitbit 3 -- I decided to stop putting it in my bra and that at my hip it would be less likely to get wet. Within 24 hours of having received it, it fell off. I retraced my steps to find it and there it was, in the car park at work. A car had run over it. It died.
Fitbit 4 -- It arrived yesterday and I've sync'd it with Sparkpeople.

Fingers crossed!

I am not sure this is the right thread to ask my question... I"m a new fitbit owner and this morning my dashboard says it was updated 11 minutes ago .... but there is no activity recorded... does it only transfer data once q 24 hours? since it has not been 24 hours..... I'm unsure how the info is transferred ...(not computer lingo savvy)...;) Do you have to put the USB in for it to upload info?? thanks for any help!

Unfortunately that is how it is logged for the time being. I have created "0" entries on SP so I can at least log the cardio/ST activity I did that day. I am hoping that they tweak this in the future so that at least a recording is listed separately. BTW, if you look at the summary on top it will provide you with minute information for "cardio" activity, i.e., Active and Very Active Minutes.

Questions about FB Activity record: So I recorded my 3 mile walk and updated the name of the activity. I was hoping that the FP/SP sync would show a separate activity in SP. It did not. It just lumped everything together in 'Fitbit Entry'. Is that how it works? You just get one big fitness bucket in SP that includes everything. I like to look back on the history and determine what fitness I did on my good weeks in SP. The thought of having now to work with 2 separate websites is not encouraging.

Thank you for clarifying! I found that sometimes it syncs automatically, and some times I have to tell it to sync, but either way I love being able to log my minutes!

I'm impressed and for running don't feel the need to wear my HRM
Raul you must have read my mind. Went for my Run and put both fitbit one and HRM on and had Zombie Run running on my Iphone (Yes I am a gadget and number kind of person) here what they come up with

Zombie run GPS for tracking miles 5.91 Miles this is the only info from this app really about the story for me. 12.25 pace this is with warm up and run down times added into full run.
Fitbit
11,572 steps
49 floors
6.14 miles ok I had a few steps picking some stuff up when I got home also had to come up stairs to write new numbers down and on my run i have to cross the street quite a few times because of hills, shoulders, and traffic so no big difference really
607 calories
HRM Polar F4
634 calories
gives me time in zones, Max HR, Ave HR things that don't matter to what we are looking at
SP
Checked SP for a 5MPH pace at 73 min mile run
607 calories

ok those are the numbers! so close it amazed me. I'm really happy with my fitbit one now. I really got it just so I would move more I really didn't care if the steps where right on or not I would just try to get more over time, but wow it is spot on for a small 100$ gadget
Oh yes the floors, no I didn't climb steps but where I live its very, very hilly so I got credit for floors and rightly so! running hills is like running steps and its shows that. Personally I find that to be a big bonus Because when I run hills! believe me I WANT credit for them.
Sorry so long but to sum up I don't need a HRM for any kind of walking or running activity.
I'm sure for my lifting and Hit Dvds I will wear my HRM because those workouts are about getting my heart rate up not about how many steps I am taking.
Love my Fitbit One even More.

I have read opinions that go both ways. You might try creating a recording on your FB and compare it to what your HRM states. I certainly would be interested in how they compare.

well i just learned something I didn't know you could isolate time periods for exercise!
so i"ve been taking off my fitbit one and wearing my HRM for what I think is exercise,(ver just try to move more) so maybe I don't need to wear my HRM and track things two ways. any opinions about calories burned on the fitbit site as good as a HRM or not?

Glad to read that you love your FB Ultra!
Wearing your FB on your sock might provide you with a more vigorous activity level than expected. I would avoid wearing your FB there. Other female users have not noted any difference when wearing your FB on your bra or your hip.
With regards to your syncing issue you may consider giving the sites opportunity to sync. I find that most of the time they sync quickly but sometimes it may take hours. Be patient. I have not had to add anything to the FB food site just tweak quantities.

I have the ultra - love it - moving more than I ever thought.. and I want to move more with it..
but I found it says I walk/move more when I wear it on my sock or hip - not on my bra.. anyone else notice this ?????
also when I add my food to sp tacker it picks up some on fb but not all.. so I click sync to fb then delete the double entry's... any suggestions on that ?? thanks...

This may have already been answered but I just want to be clearer...(I have FitBit Ultra - that I just got yesterday). When I do a workout, in order for it to log as a specific time I use the same technique as if I was recording my sleep?
If I am doing a TurboFire workout then hold the button for the 2+ seconds to record that activity the same as if I were recording my sleep? I know this is a redundant question but I screwed up my fitbit workout trying to isolate that time period today and then my SP got screwed up and I had to just go in and delete everything...which probably made things worse and I am getting all turned around now.

Yes, I believe adding activities should only be done for those that FB is not good at monitoring, i.e., cycling, rowing, etc.

Ugh! Sorry I did not realize you were talking about the cute little Zip!
That is right, in an attempt to make the item water-resistant they eliminated any buttons on it. Yes, I would not enter any activities and just FB count your steps.
Sorry about the confusion.

Thanks!

I looked at the link but I don't think it's applicable to the fitbit zip which is what I have.

Are you familiar with the ACTIVITY function of your FB? I would use that when doing a cardio activity. This will provide you a better picture of how many calories you burned while doing your cardio workout.

Here is the link to create a RECORDING (aka ACTIVITY):

Hope this helps, if not please let us know.

This is a little confusing. So when I do a DVD or the elliptical should I not enter that activity on fitbit and just let fitbit count it as steps. It seems the calories burned is elevated to what I have actually burned.

Thanks for the clarification on how this works... I noticed that my fitness minutes really skyrocketed since sparks started importing my fitbit data--and not because I'm double posting, either. For example, Monday I did 30 minutes of a workout video (so if I were tracking on sparks I'd enter that as 30 fitness minutes)...but the fitbit imported 71 fitness minutes! Now I know why.

Looks like I have to rethink my fitness minute goals, since the fitbit apparently counts activity that I had considered as exercise but just being kind of generally active, I guess.

I'm actually pretty bad about tracking food. When I do, I now check the calories as they show up on fitbit because that gives me the best estimate as to whether I'm over or not since I know the fitbit site has all of my data from Endo/Fitbit together.

Ultimately, I'm getting more than my 10k daily, I'm stronger and I'm (very slowly) losing weight. That's what matters, right? :D

Actually that is the way that I would have entered the missing information. And, you are right, it is best to get over the fact that your data won't be 100% accurate. In fact I would suggest that you under estimate so to build in a little cushion!

I've complicated things by wearing a HR monitor in addition to working out, so I have a good idea of the calories I burn during whatever exercise I wear it.

I enter my HR monitor data onto Endomondo, which syncs to FitBit, however the calories burned during my Zumba toning this morning didn't make it into the SP Fitbit entry, but made it to Fitbit. So, I subtracted the amount in the SP entry and added a 1 min entry with the remainder of the calories. Yikes.

I need to get over the fact that it won't be completely accurate.... I'm probably doing this wrong too, but I'm open to suggestions.

I see. Thank you so much for clearing
That up. Now I know how to go and where to
Go. I can always scan a barcode for what
Spark people does not have. Good.

Sorry but the answer to your question is none.
MFP does not sync with SP
FB only sync physical activity with SP not food
SP only syncs food with FB not physical activity.

I did this today:
Logged in all my food for today on MFP.
Put fitbit on docking station, and food was synced to FitBit....great!!
Went to Spark People....No food synced!! emoticon
Tracked a food on Spark People and it does show up on FitBit and MFP.

Now
Can anyone tell me if what food I log on either FB or MFP should show up on SparkPeople??
I like to log my meals at MFP because they have all of Aldi foods....I like to shop there. Spark
People does not have many of those.

My understanding is that the syncing happens this way:

fitness goes from FB to SP and
food goes from SP to FB

If you sync your FB with SP (for fitness) then yes you will be double posting.

I am logging them as a custom strength exercise and leaving the minutes and weight blank. If I have to enter a number I enter 1 for both fields. I figure 1 won't skew my exercise information too badly. I have only had to do this for a few of my entries.

I log my workouts (calories burned and time) on SP. Do they then transfer to FB? I do start my FB when working out, so it records the time I'm working out. Is it getting posted twice then to SP?

Could you explain how you log your cardio without minutes or calories? I am interested in that idea for the activities that fitbit would credit me as I like having a record of the specific workout I did. Are you logging them as custom strength exercises and just leaving the minutes and calorie burn blank?

There appears to be a lot of confusion as to what the FITBIT ENTRY on your SparkPage Exercise tracker page encompasses. My understanding is that the number provided by FB includes all of your FAIRLY ACTIVE MINUTES and your VERY ACTIVE MINUTES. The Calories Burned number would be any calories you earned performing these activities. This would be in addition to your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) which is the amount of energy expended daily by your body while sleeping/at rest, i.e., light activity. Here is a BMR calculator to figure out what your daily figure is:

www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculato
r/

Adding your BMR to your Calories Burned would provide you with the number of calories you require to maintain your current weight. Now if you want to lose weight then you need to eat between 200-500 calories less that this daily figure (depending on how much weight you want to lose on a weekly basis).

I, too, want to log my actual cardio activities on SP and have created Groups that involve these activities but without any time/calories (I will usually list this information in the group's description). I also label my activities on the FB site.

I hope this answers your questions as to why the entry on your SP fitness log seems so high.

Now let the discussion begin!
