I just posted a blog with comparison charts. As I rarely blog, it shouldn't be hard to find! I love my gadgets, and will continue to share what I find.

I agree, the graveyard shift must be so hard on your sleep habits. I know that when I worked graveyard in my late teens it was difficult to adjust to the schedule. I checked out the Zeo sleep monitor and it looks real cool. Has it helped in your search for sleep?

Just out of curiosity and the need for rest, I bought a Zeo sleep monitor several months ago. I generally wake numerous times, and sleep in chunks. It is a fascinating device. It actually picks up brain signals. The frequency of different sleep states is different, so it can tell you when you are in REM or deep sleep or just regular sleep. And as far as being able to tell awake...It really knows the difference between sleep and awake. I can roll over and look at the monitor/graph and see the big lines telling me I'm still awake. Some days my graphs are loaded with "orange bars" showing awake chunks. I know for sure my deep sleep is a fraction of the norm, although I do OK on REM. It is supposed to help you make the changes that lead to better sleep. I already know what would help me. Quitting my Graveyard Shift job!

Interesting discussion about sleep measuement.

I think mine does a pretty good job of letting me know when I am actually asleep if worn properly, etc. etc. I see the waking periods it posts and these pretty much correspond to trips to the facilities or waking and then going back to sleep. And, if I read a bit, it will show that as non-sleep (blue line) time, even if I am not moving around very much at all.

I have never lain quietly awake staring at the ceiling (my insomnia is the kind when I awake multiply at night) so can't address that.

anyway, I love the darn thing, have an extra in reserve, and so on.

Puddlecrazy, too funny about plugging in the base. But you know, that is something I could have easily done also, sometimes the obvious is not so obvious.

Enjoy!

The Fitbit is great for telling you how long you laid in bed, BUT...It cannot tell how long you actually slept. FB thinks you are asleep if you are motionless. Take it from someone with horrible sleep patterns. FB can only give you a snapshot of how much time you were off your feet! It can't tell if you spent that time staring at the ceiling! That being said...I love my fitbit. I take it with me everywhere I go! It's strength is it's ability to give you an overall picture of how sedentary you are. Or how active : )

Thank you. I think I discovered that the base station has to be attached to my computer in order for the wireless to work. I had been under the impression that the Fitbit would just wirelessly connect to my computer without needing the base to be attached.

I'll try the sleep setting tonight. This weekend, I will finally have time to look through the website.

In order to record an activity, hold the button down for 5-7 seconds (or until it reads START), when you have completed the activity hold the same button down until the screen reads STOP. Your activity should be online within 15-20 minutes (as long as you are within range of your base station).
Regarding the sleep, I received the same message if I forget to select the PREVIOUS DAY selection. If you leave on the SAME DAY selection that error message will usually pop-up.
Finally, regarding the steps I find that sometimes my FB lags. It will not register the steps I am taking but if I check it a few minutes later the steps are there!
Welcome to our group and please ask your questions and we will answer as best as we can!

Okay, I'm new and haven't had time to play around with my Fitbot yet. I was very excited about this because it is supposed to record my sleep patterns... I thought. It came with NO instructions. I am connected to the website, and checked in this morning. There is no record of my sleep patterns there, and when I tried to manually enter my sleep time from pm to am, I kept getting a message that my wake time was before my going to bed time. Really? From 9:30 pm to 5:530 am? Are they looking for military time?

Also, it didn't record my steps. I know I walked from my bedroom to my kitchen to the living room and my house isn't tiny, but it reports zero steps taken.

I didn't plug it into my computer this morning because I thought it is supposed to be wireless. Is there something wrong with my Fitbit, or am I missing a step in finding my date?

Thanks,
Chris
