I can not see where they would say the Atkins Diet is good for the Kidneys. Especially when we all have different needs as to what to eat. I also had a friend on this diet , yes she lost weight but she to got so sick after she went off of it. I agree with you Jen, this is a dredful diet for CKD patients. Follow what your Renal Dietitian tells you to eat, not Dr. Adkins, this is my feelings any way. C
Im starting to take control of my life today. I will take care of me, love my self., be good to my self, I am strong, i can do this.
Nutritionally speaking the atkins diet is not good for anyone - although they have recently (few years back now I think) revamped it, but to lack of carbs - we all need carbs for our brain to function.
I thought it was interesting that is said it looked to be kidney friendly - HUH! I wont do this diet for anything. Jean

The Adkins Diet isn't ALL bad if you eliminate whole wheat, nuts, seeds, potatoes, avacados and bananas. Also, check out all items on the diet to make sure there isn't much potassium or phosphates in the menus. I am in stage 3 kidney failure (up from stage 4 by watching what I eat). I also am prediabetic, which makes things so tricky. The diets for the kidneys and diabetes are so contradictory. I've spent a couple of months checking out menus and recipes to satisfy both conditions. There isn't much left to eat!!!!

I agree, I wouldn't try it either unless I asked my kidney doctor. I don't do anything without his opinion first. I have gone from stage 4 back up to stage 3 by being extremely careful about everything I put into my mouth.
