Here are some foods with hidden phosphorus-----These are foods you buy at the store.
Flavored Waters--Iced Teas--Cola--Enhanced meat and chicken products--Breakfast cereal bars--Nondairy Creamers--bottled coffee Beverages---Hawaiian Punch--Sunny Selight--Red Mountain Dew--Hires Root Beer---Hormel Always Tender Products. The foods grow weekly in our Supermarkets with Phos. in it. And since it doesnt have to be labeled here are a few words that also mean Phosphate Additives.
Frozen or fresh veg. usually have no or very little Phos. in them. Check your vitamins some have Phosphorus in them. Be very careful if you grab and go to eat. Phosphate salts are added to meats to reduce the chances of rancidness, it extends the shelf life of the enhanced meat. Some other foods with Phos.--Milk and milk products, cheese , cottage cheese, ice cream, yogurt and soups made with milk. Dried beans, broccoli, brussel sprouts, sweet pot.,corn and peas. There are other foods also with Phos. you have to learn to read labels and shop carefully and watch the amount of Phos. you are allowed for a day.
Why is Phosphorus Important to you?---Normal working kidneys can excrete extra phos. in your blood. When your kidneys ail, your phos. level can get to high. this will then pull calcium out of your bones and make your bones weak. Also if the calcium and Phos. levels get to high in your blood, your heart, blood vessels, and lungs can harden due to calcium deposits. Keeping calcium and phosphorus balanced is important for strong bones.
