Claire - I did take the day and I am so glad I did. I spent Friday all day in the hospital with my brother - I am his PA. My Aunt and Uncle were in the hospital too. (married couple - my mom's bro and his wife)
The parties were Sat.
My Aunt passed away today.

I am doing goodies and posting for May today.

Love those kidneys!

I jumped on the treadmill for about 45 minutes - I wish I knew how accurate those heart pulse-monitors-in-the-handles thingys are: at times it showed my pulse up to 180 which is wwwaaayyy too high. I bought a chest strap monitor, but I haven't figured out how to get it to talk to the treadmill. I need to put that higher on my priority list so I can stop worrying about my pulse.

DH still having pretty severe swings in his blood pressure, which is just so darn scary. He's got an appointment with a neurologist and cardiologist in the next couple weeks and I hope they come to some conclusion soon so we can start attacking the problem!

Hope everyone has had a quality weekend and is looking forward to an even better week!

Now that it's at the end of the day, did you really manage to take the day off, Jean?

I've been catching up on paperwork - my desk is mounded with paper to be taken care of. I forgot all about my treadmill today. Not a good sign when my eyes are already skipping over it when I've only had it 2 weeks! Just a little set back. I'll be paying more attention going forward!

I am taking the day OFF - I am exhausted and the party's are in two days.

I skipped the dentist, mom and dads today. I need a day. I am going to sit and crochet today and get a good work out in. My body is tired! That day on the tractor does me IN every time. I should know better than to plan anything the day after. UGH!

I hope ya all are LOVING your kidneys.

I hope everyone is having a good start to the week - loving kidneys!

I am going to be MIA again this week - I am having a surprise party for my hubby this weekend (2 in fact!) One for family and one for his friends from work. I am hoping everyone keeps the info secret.. but with so many - who knows!

Tomorrow is my baking day - I am baking zucchinni bread and making spice balls. Wednesday I have to spend the day on the small tractor cutting the grass - Thursday I go to the dentist - all the way to the city! Then I will go to mom n dads. Shop for rest of the party items I did not pick up today. and Saturday is PARTY day. Sunday is the actual birthday. And then I can take a deep sigh of relief!

Have a good week all - Jean

It hit 100 degrees today; a week and a half ahead of the average. Our last measurable rainfall was on Dec 18 (0.12") - normally between then and now we would have gotten 3 1/2" of rain which is about half of our annual rainfall. Arizona has been in a decade long drought and it's not ending any time soon.

Water is so precious no matter where you live. You don't have to run the water while you're brushing your teeth. Do you need to leave that faucet running in the kitchen that long? Do you have to have that much water flowing or can you turn the faucet down? We practice "if it's yellow, let it mellow; if it's brown flush it down" at our house - how about you?

Think about all the water you waste in remembrance of Earth Day.

Hubby home and doing fine - more on that in a blog post (yet to be written!) We got our new treadmill yesterday and I hopped on this AM. I'm gonna love this thing all summer long (when it's too hot for any sane person to be exercising outside in Phoenix).

I don't take any supplements. I get regular blood tests to measure calcium, Vitamin D, etc. and my levels are all within normal range. I ask my nephrologist about supplements every time I see her - she sells renal friendly supplements in her office! - and she keeps saying I don't need them.

And I echo C, don't take anything but Tylenol ever again and only Tylenol if you absolutely can't live without it.

Yur Dr. is right NO NASAIDS only Tylenol and only if you absoutly need it. I take a prescription vitamin called Renal Caps which has lots of B vitamins in it, also 5000 iu of vitamin D3 a day and i do B12 when i need a extra shot of energy.
NASAIDS damage your Kidneys. You will have to ask your Neph. or Renal Dietition about the calcium. At one time i had to take Calcium but than it got to high,
Remember each CKD patient has different needs as to what and how much they can eat. But it seems we all have to watch our Sodium,. Potassium, Phosphorus, liquid intake, Dairy. You can always call your dietitian ann ask about your calcium. always keep copy's of all your blood work each time you get it done.

Thanks CBEVNOW for that very interesting information. Do you take B Vit. since the whole grains is where we get most of the B from like B6 etc? With only a half a cup of Milk a day I would think everyone would need a Calcium Table?

So what Supplements are everyone taking if you care to share. My doctor told me to ditch the Aleve and buy some Tylenol . I did that.

I feel energized and ready to go this morning. Have to keep the kids this afternoon. Momma has to go to the doctor for her shoulder. Have a gut feeling that she is going to have to have surgery on it. Have to go to a client's house tomorrow to do soil samples. Still have to write that paper. Haven't even hardly started on it yet. Yikes!!!

It has been kinda slow day for me today.I have had a head ache all week. I am only allowed Tylenol and i dont take even 1 unless absolutly i have to, and i believe i am going to have to take 1 now.
I did look at a Jeep Liberty SUV 4 wheel, today, 09, just plain no fancy frills, but with only 21,000 miles my SUV has 70,000 not bad for a 06. I need a cheaper car payment and better milage. My ford is 8 cylinder and the jeep is 6 cylinder. He will have to give me a good deal before i buy. Then i might just keep my Ford until it runs out and try my bank to give me a loan if the payments are better.. My ford is financed through Wells Fargo and i have never missed a payment, its taken right out of my account, and they wont refinance, so pooy on them never go through them again.

To my knowledge it has the wheat stripped out of it. ( Its a New Day)

and its white,, no this is a joke, i really dont know but if you notice its white rice, white bread, white pot, for those who can eat pot. A very good question and i will work on it about the cream of wheat. If some one else has a better ans. let us know.
Also we can eat grits.
Ok 1 cup cream of wheat prepared has 7 mg sodium,48 mg pot. 43 mg phosphorus, 4.3 protein and 154 calories.
OK 1 cup oatmeal, instant prepared has 377 mg sodium, 131 mg of pot, 176 mg phosphorus, 5.9 proteinand 138 calories.
Since most of us have to watch our pot and phos.,sodium i would say the cream of wheat because its lower in Sodium, Potassium, and Phosphorus. I personally like cream of wheat. I did not know there was that much sodium in instant oat meal though so i am glad i looked this up. Hope this helps.

CBEVNOW: Here is something I don't understand, if they want us to stay away from whole grains like Wheat bread then why can we eat cream of wheat?

Its a new day, the kidney diet is hard to follow. Each CKD patient has different needs so the diet is some times different for each of us, It goes by what your blood work says, and there are certain things none of are to eat. Coke is very bad for us or any cola. I did a post on coke and it can destroy our kidneys. The CKD is different from what we are use to. I also ate wheats all kind of grains. I had to stop all the dark, just think white, cream of wheat , white rice, white bread. I make 99% of my bread for i know whats in it. And bread is first on the list for high sodium.
We as kidney people have to be very strong and brave to survive this disease, it takes a lot of work, but we know we can do it. We all slip and get tired, but that's being human. Take care and we are here to help if we can.

I don't like the SP cardio videos much - non of them are low impact enough for osteoporosis so I'm modifying all the moves. I'm concerned that that moves me into bad form and possible injury. So I went out to YouTube - and found a 30 minute low impact cardio routine that KICKED MY BUTT. they show you each move in slow motion and then you do the exercise at speed. There are seven exercises and 3 rounds of them, so you can actually do 10 minute sets.

I've got sweat running everywhere. Low impact does not mean easy!

Hi! I am new. That sounds like a great book, next time I get out to the Library I will see if I can fine it. Who is the Author ?

I just read up on the Kidney website that they recommend white bread .......I gave up white bread alone time ago and have tried to replace of stuff to whole grain now I find out if you have CKD this is not the best thing to do. Also bye bye to Cola's. It looks like I am going to be making major changes , but it will be worth it if I get more energy.

Is following the Kidney diet hard for any of you ? I see there is a lot you can eat , just not what I am use to eating.

I had a great time at the concert! That girl has such a powerful voice and she actually sounds like her songs (IE she hasn't been auto-tuned to get on pitch!) I got another 10,000 steps in on Saturday without hitting the fitness center. I walked to a restaurant for breakfast and then walked all over the concert hall.

Today I am plowing through stacks of paper/things to do. I'm reading a new productivity book ("Getting Things Done - the art of stress-free productivity") and I like the whole thing. One major tip I've already absorbed is when you are going through your 'in basket" of things to do either write shorter notes on what needs to be done then file the backup documentation That reduces the visual perspective of not having a lot to do - or at least a manageable amount to do - and that makes it easier to dive in. Or, do it right then if it can be done within 5 minutes. I can tell you that a lot of the paper shuffling in my 'in-basket' was small stuff I kept putting off. I cleared out 15 items that way alone and my stack is almost gone and it's taken me less than a half hour.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Claire

It's Kelly Clarkson concert day! I drove to Palm Desert (CA) yesterday which is about 4 1/2 hrs from Phx. She's playing at a casino here. I was pretty stiff from sitting so I went to their fitness rom and got on the treadmill and it felt good! Even with the car time, I got in 13,200 steps.

I did not buy the cookbook - I figure there are enough of Meg's recipes on the site.
I would send it back and explain why you sent it back.

I am exhausted today and I Just do not feel well. TOO much running this week - spent way too much time doing things I didnt want to do! (dont we all) - I was stressed OUT and that does NOT do my body good - so I understand Caroline - take care of YOU.
I am going to take care of me today. rest rest rest - while doing laundry and spot cleaning the house today. I will relax for an hour or so today too!

Happy Easter weekend everyone!

I ordered the Spark Cookbook - and I'm seriously considering sending it back. I'm very disappointed. The first 70 pages cover the SparkDiet concepts, success stories, stuff like that. In the back here are extra appendices giving meal plan examples, healthy pantry checklist, creating a healthy grocery list, 25 good cheap foods, etc (besides the standard conversion tables, indexes...) Most of the recipes have a facing page picture.

So, almost half of the book is not recipes. I can see how all this extra stuff would be great for someone who is not familiar with the web site. But, for those of us who ARE active all this stuff is duplication.

Has anyone else purchased it and if so what do you think about it?

Sounds like you had a job cleaning Lexy. Hope you didn't get too soaked. Have school at 1:00 so I might as well not get dirty this morning. They might not like it if I showed up filthy from playing in the dirt.

Every time i get on SP today it keeps acting up. Has any one else had this problem. My dog Lexy treed a ground hog today. We had to bring her inside so the poor ground hog could get down out of the tree, and when it did it ran like a fox. Then later i let lexy out she sniffed that GH out and took off. Came back in about 1 hour and was mud from head to toe. She weights 60 pounds, Scott had worked all night and was asleep so i pushed and pulled her to the shower and finally got her in and bathed her. Wow what a job. I hope every one has had a nice day.
