I don't think any one makeup brand can be considered the best. Which makeup works specifically for you is an individual thing.....sometimes it takes alot of experimentation before you find what's right for you.
I think the popularity of MAC is because of it's use in TV and movies, as well as highly successful marketing.
I'm not faithful to any particular brands of makeup...i've used both cheapies and expensive.
Here are some of the cheaper brands which work for me:
lipstick - Avon, Milani,Jordana
lip pencils - jordana,nyx,LA girl
eyeshadows - beauty treats, profusion,LA girl, elf, maybelline
eyeliners - jordana, avon
mascara - maybelline,l'oreal,cover girl,avon
blush - L'oreal, elf
I also use Sacha ; makeup from a local, carribean company.
Instead of paying for lessons, i agree with both Larae and Princess....definitely check out you tube.
Some of my favs are michelle phan, pixiwoo and mischievous.
And finally, if you need to find your perfect shades of foundation, powder and blush, you can get free demos from Sephora or cosmetic counters in the mall.
