Hi All
Karen I totally relate.
I'm sorry I've been MIA. It was a good course that I went on last weekned but by the time I drove 3 hours each way and was feeling a bit off colour anyway.....hmmm Another busy but good work at week. We've had some really sick people and some not so nice outcomes this week so emotionally taxing for everyone. Thanksfully I was not personally involved with any so I can be sympathetic but not paranoid! When ever anything bad happens you end up going through things a thousand times wondering what you could have done differently to produce a better outcome and often there are minor things you might change but mostly none of these or anything else would really have changed anything majorly. It's a difficult position to be in so often but the good times are also good.

Not really doing anything SP wise except my ongoing walks to work!

As far as next months challenge goes, we have had a break and now......
I'm thinking that maybe for the month of June we should challenge each other to do 10 mins EXTRA exercise above our normal 5 days per week and stick to our calorie allottment 5days per week also??? I think it's do-able without being overly taxing.

What do you all think?

Love
Margaret

Hi all,

Everyone must be busy...not too much posting going on.
I spent a couple of days opening up our trailer up at camp...so all set there.
Trying to get things done around the house before I start working on the 11th. My husband also got a job and will be starting on the 11th. God is good and faithful.
Haven't been exercising much at all and haven't been tracking food faithfully either. Kinda lost interest to be honest. Hoping that will change soon.
Praise Jesus, He never changes!!!!

Usually I say good morning but it's not morning.
I didn't go to the gym yesterday and I haven't been there today.
It's too windy to bike ride so I may have to get up there for a bit this afternoon.
I am kind of feeling lazy. But I transplanted more house plants and gardened for an hour which is a lot like work when I am loosening soil, pulling weeds and planting. The soil out in my flower bed is pretty heavy.
I have some projects that need doing around the house today too. The girls are headed home this evening.
I guess we are making green bean fries for supper tonight. This is a new one on my. However I went out and got the fresh green beans. I will let you know what I think of them. It will be an experiment if nothing else.
Hope you work hit a level that you enjoy Margaret. Sounds like you will have an enjoyable weekend.

Just for a change today has not been busy and I'm really not enjoying it! I complain because there's usually far to much to do and now I'm complaining because there isn't enough. If there were more days like today you'd see more of me here on this site! Not that having a slack day gives me any more energy.
I'm heading away tomorrow for a course on Saturday. I'll drivethe three hours to it tomorrow and stop at a few places that I don't normally have time to look at and just zoom through. The course is just for the morning so I'll be back Saturday night in time for church Sunday. Also in time to do some of the usual chores that need doing in the weekend..

Hope everyone is going well.

Another good day at work. Long may it last.

Still not getting the exercise I need but getting better at pushing myself with my walking to and from work. I will walk as fast as I can either at the beginning or the end of the day...rarely both!. Just did my exercise personality.....I'm an adventurous exerciser...never would have thought it. I'm pretty conservative about most things but I answered the questions pretty honestly and almost every question was answered with a D.

Catch you later

Hi all,

Spent a couple of days in NY city. Saw a Yankees' game...they lost by one run. Oh well.
Took one of the bus tours, spent some time in Grand Central and the public Library...both had awesome marble work and architecture.
Been helping in the kitchen at school the last couple of days. I will be there again tomorrow.
Mowed my lawn and weeded my flower beds today.
Will be starting my job on the 11th of June. Looking forward to going back to work in some ways, but will miss the freedom I now have, being "retired".
Hope you are all doing well....Karen

Good Afternoon now I guess.
I have been at it this morning.
Headed to the church shortly to work on some things.
There are pros and cons to living alone. I generally find the messes others leave more annoying than my own. But I would miss companionship.
Kind of a gray blustery day today. Plenty to do and not much energy at the moment.
Best workout today I have managed in a week. My stitches seem pretty much all better. I should call and see about having them removed.
Enjoying my house guests and looking forward to my kids getting home for the weekend.

Life's been a bit crazy. I have people coming tonight and then a flat inspection tomorrow. Was up late last night baking, cleaning, washing, doing the dishes AND drying. If I don't do it in my household it doesn't get done. Ce la vie.

Must get off home now and finish the mini pizza's off, ice the carrot cake, etc before the crowd arrives.

Blessings all

Quiet here but i am posting anyway.
I have been working in my big perennial bed. It's improving. Not a done product yet but it is looking a lot better. Hoping to plant some seeds to fill in a few areas possibly later today.
It rained a lot but I think I can get those seeds in as we dug up the area yesterday.
Today I have to do a lot of house work. Company coming tonight.
The house isn't to bad but there are things that need to get done.
Hope all are well and just a bit busy.

I cook and much of the time my hubby does do the dishes.
He also takes out he garbage. I am insistant about that most of the time.
However you are right. He is not allowed to do laundry!
Planted my sweet pea seeds and three more hostas this morning. Liking that things are looking spiffier.
Probably working on the vegetable garden tonight.
Hoping it's dry enough to till.

I usually don't let my husband do the dishes...too often something gets broken or chipped.
And my husband usually does make the coffee...he says his tastes much better, than when I make it. HA!
And I definitely do not let him do the laundry!

Life has been hectic lately, which is why I haven't been sparking as much. Doesn't seem like it is going to slow anytime soon.

Everyone have a great day and God bless you all...Karen

I will remember to share that one with my husband.
Mostly he does the dishes and I cook.
Still taking the slow route while my stitches heal.
Not quite my style.

Sounds to me like he only has to dry them! I guess that's how things like heresy creep in! LOL.
Have had a good day today - a bit warmer than yesterday, which was freezing. Maybe I could get some exercise in?

I suppose you also know that the Bible says that men are the ones who are to wash the dishes. Yep, 2 Kings 21:13 (KJV): "...I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a dish, wiping it, and turning it upside down."

Hi,
I just booked a flight to North Carolina to see my son in June.
I need to see him and see how he is doing in person instead of a few short phine calls.
It will be a short expensive trip but I am counting it worthwhile.
Have a great day ladies.

Lori: A day off for mother's day sounds good to me.
We had a wonderful Mother's Day at church. i love how the churches here in Oz still give me whatever is going on Mother's day even though I'm not a Mother. yesterday it was a beautiful long stemmed rose and a free hot coffee or chocolate at the cafetaria. (there's always free ones but the really nice ones have a charge attached.
Trigramps: great Joke. Very clever.

Well I've just booked another trip back to NZ. My best friend (Ang) lives in America (Seattle) but is going home to NZ for her mother's birthday and I've been asked to go and spend time with her. It's so much more palatable to take a quick trip across a two hour time zone change than across a 19+ hour time zone trip. I'm looking forward to it. Her family are like a second family to me. They are all beautiful christian people and I love them dearly. It'll be wonderful to catch up with Ang and which ever of her children she brings. They are the nicest of kids....a pleasure to be around. Can't wait. (It's not till June.)

See you
Margaret

My wife & I were having a DISCUSSION the othe day about who should brew the coffee in the morning.

DW said, 'You should do it because you get up first, and then we don't have to wait as long to get our coffee.

I said, 'You are in charge of cooking around here and you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait for my coffee.'

DW replies, 'No, you should do it, and besides, it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee.'

Silly me replies, 'No way, show me.'

So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament and showed me at the top of several pages, that it indeed says

Good Morning
I think earlier in the week I was moping a little about none of my kids being here for mother's day but I am past it.
Peanut butter has been my downfall lately. I am needing to make some new goals though because I have done well on the ones I am working on. Maybe it's time to oust the peanut butter.
I am generally pretty craft Margaret but it goes in spurts. I sort of quilt, I knit, sometimes I draw and paint. I sew and I enjoy refinishing projects.
So today for Mother's day I ma giving myself permission to sit on my deck and enjoy a book and nap in the sun.
I amy or may not get to the gym it depends on how I feel later in the afternoon.

Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers out there....or maybe it's not Mothers day in your neck of the world???? Enjoy it anyway!

Lori: are you into crafts normally....any in particular you enjoy. I used to do a lot but don't seem to have time/motivation these days.

Did well yesterday until I was hungry at bedtime....yes true hunger, and polished off the remainder of the peanut butter in the the jar. Hmmm. well won't do that again in a hurry. It's sitting empty now. Still on the positive side, it wasn't a plateful of food just a 1/2 a cup... and just more calories than I needed no doubt. Oh well there's always today.

Love

That sounds great. I just read bits and peices of her stuff at one point and was offended by some of it.
I also know that there were things about the journey and wandering in the wilderness eating manna with the Isrealites which is way cool.
I'm all for taking the best and leaving the rest.
Went rummage saling for a while today and now I am sitting here finishing a sandwich.
I potted a couple of plants and have a great deal more to do. We'll see how it goes.
I also saw and idea for a table top water garden I am thinking about.
I am feeling kind of crafty.
Will get to the gym sometime today.

Hi All
Lori: I didn't remember anything about drinking in weigh down. I never used to drink much at all so it probably didn't make any impact on me. I certainly drink a lot more than I used to now. Usually get in my 8 glasses and more although I've been less legalistic about it in the last few weeks. You are right she didn't talk about healthy foods at all but about not feeling guilty for having unhealthy foods. I think somewhere in the middle is good. It's OK to indulge as long as it's an indulgence and not a staple. My main issue at the moment is eating when I'm not hungry and eating too much when I do eat, so tapping back into that stuff is really what I was talking about along with using God's Word to fill the gaps when I wanted to eat but didn't NEED to eat..... Filling the hole with what it needs (spiritual fulfilment) not what it wants (food). 2 days of doing a LOT better. Not perfect but better. I even had some chocolate yesterday without polishing off the whole packet. I did have two plates of Veges though and in reality could have done with one. On the plus side I didn't eat it all. There is still enough for a meal today....once again THAT is progress.

Blessings
Margaret

This is a busy thread today.
Congratulations Karen. The job sounds like a really good fit for you.
Margaret, Our church was in to the Weigh Down workshop big time 'til the founder moved off course theologically. I have to say something about this. I think she makes has a lot of good points about not eating when not hungry and such but she says a lot about being careful not to drink much and is kind of negative about making healthy choices. It's more about eating less. While that is valuable I advise you to keep the baby there and throw out a lot of bathwater. I hope it helps you. I understand where you are at. I am definitely struggling.
Have a great weekend all. I am wanting to play with plant and refinish a stand I bought at a yard sale. kind of excited for a project to take on.

Karen, that is wonderful news. I know you will do a great job and after the initial couple of weeks you will still have SOME time to be 'retired' LOL.

Shannon, I just went onto your page this morning because I was missing you and needed a dose! Alas not much new...certainly no blog I'd missed, so I was so pleased to see you'd popped in here.Sorry about those donuts...exactly what I would have done.....and donuts are not even my weakness. I'm better off not starting. Once started I have no won't power.

Susan, Thank you for your words of encouragement. I KNOW that Jesus is my strength. It is only Him in me that has any of that will power I so often lack. I did better yesterday. I didn't pig out after dinner anyway. Every time I was tempted, I just reminded myself that God was my sufficiency not excess food and it worked pretty well. There were muffins at work in morning and I didn't do quite so well with them but better than I could have so that's a start. I'm feeling more positive about my ability to do it again today! I'm off and potentially have more time hanging on my hands. I need more lettuce so will walk to the supermarket and get some. That will get in some extra exercise and also keep me away from the fridge for a while!

Thank you all for your constant support. I really need it at the moment and appreciate that you are there for me.

Blessings
Margaret

Karen, I'm SO, SO happy for you!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! And I'm TICKLED pink that it's only a temporary change to your schedule. {{{{{huge hugs, my beautiful friend}}}}

Shannon and Margaret, I feel like I could have written both of your paragraphs! Oh, the struggle! But the GOOD NEWS: God hears the cries of the humble and broken! I'm so grateful that He comes to the those in the miry clay! He comes to the SICK! He comes to the ones that NEED a deliverer! The key if to believe that it can be different for us! And WHY??? Because Jesus walked in full victory for the JOY of having us being ALL HIS and walk in that same victory! Apart from Him we will eat all the doughnuts and gain all the weight, but with Him, we will mount up with wings like eagles and run and not be weary and walk and not faint! It all begins in our mind! It begins at the throne of grace! Not 'trying harder' but rather believing in the ONE who can do ALL things! He parted the RED SEA, surely, He can give us victory over our stomachs and our weak flesh. He ROSE from the dead, surely He can give us the desires of our heart: to yearn for Him MORE than our daily bread! Be encouraged because you are RIGHT where you should be: in need of His abundant grace. Let us lift up the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the LORD together.

All my love, Susan

Shannon and Margaret,

I will be praying for you both...I can definitely relate to just eating but not hungry and to eating in the evening.
Definitely turning to God's Word is a good plan...it fills the void we feel, and prayer strengthens us. I am talking to myself as well. The Lord is so good to us and so patient.

I was offered the position I interviewed for, today. It is in the hospital I worked at before. It is a secretary position, part-time, in the One day surgery unit. No weekends, no holidays...Hallelujah! It will be full time till I am trained, then 2 days one week, 3 days the next. I already know a few people in the department, I had worked with them previously in
ER. I will probably be starting around June 1.
So my life is going to change a bit for awhile, then it will be more like my schedule is now, once I am trained. I will get full benefits, even though my position is part-time...which is such a plus. Pray for me...this is a big change, due to the fact, that I was loving being "retired".

I got to the gym this morning and did 2 classes. I should be able to keep up my exercise to at least 3 times a week, once I start working.

Everyone have a good evening....NO SNACKING this evening!!!!!! LOL! actually I am serious!

Top of the morning to you all!! I am actually going to be getting ready to leave for the gym soon, and take the pooch to the groomer. This will actually be the first week in a very long time, that I have gotten in all my exercise minutes whoo hoo!! Of course, next week, TOM should be here, and that will throw that whole record right out the window, BAH!!!!! But, I am only going to concentrate on today, and do my best.... Eating is a completely nother story. I do good during the day, and stay way below my limits, but come evening, Hubby wants to go out, or he wants something that is not exactly the healthiest, and then BANG, whole day down the toilet. Example we went out last night with friends and Hubby and I shared a meal that was perfect. However, they all wanted to go to Krispy Kreme doughnuts, right across the street for dessert. Did I just stop at one???? NOOOO I ate 3!!!!!! UGH!! There should be a sign up in the window there, that says CAUTION can not eat just one doughnut!!!! LOL!!! On the flip side, I did not have any trouble getting to sleep last night, because my sugar was so high, I had to sleep the binge off, hence the reason I am up so early... This has got to stop!! Ok I am done whining, I do hope the rest of you have a wonderful and blessed day, and I am going to try my best to make it one too!!! HUGS!!

Keep Sparkling!! Hugs! Shannon

So glad that the interview went well Karen. I do hope it is successful.

Susan that Ice cream sounds great.....do you have a recipe....ice cream with no calories sounds right up my street!

Well I'm still struggling. When I was walking to work this morning I was thinking about what tack to take and got ot thinking about a book I read on missions 20 or 30 years ago by ?Richard Wagner, where he talks of a God shaped hole in every heart. He talks about feeling empty until God fills that hole. I was thinking that nature abhors a vaccuum and that my God shaped hole is not adequately filled. My stomach is not the problem. It IS full. It's that hole in my heart that I'm trying to fill with food and I need to fill with God. There was a book or two out in the ?90's about the 'weigh down' diet. Some of the theology was a bit off centre but it certainly worked for me then. In the interests of not throwing the baby out with the bath water......She advocated reading your Bible every time you felt hungry and had none of the REAL hunger signs. I think I'm going to try this again. See how it goes. I haven't been hungry in days (thanks for those of you praying) but I've still over eaten. The scales hit 90 kg this morning...... 6 kg (14lbs) above my lowest recorded weight this year. I really NEED to do something.
Love you all.

Karen, hoping that you get good news on the job interview {{{hugs}}} And speaking of 'old bones', I'm majorly feeling pain after all the bending and lifting in my gardens! My dh told me that I guess 'she ain't what she used to be'! ha!

Enjoyed my dish of homemade ice cream last night! Virtually no fat/carbs [made with slimtevia] and hardly any calories. I love it. I take my immersion blender and 'cream it up' and it's SOOOOO yummy! You would never know that it's not made with high fat/no refined sugar! I love it!!! If I don't blend it, then it's a bit ice-milky for me--I like CREAMY which is why I love frozen custard. Glad I found a healthy alternative.

Loads of love and have a great day.

So the job interview went well...at least from my perspective. Never know what the interviewer is thinking. Should hear within 2 weeks, a yes or no. If I do take the position, it will change my life in so many ways.
Tired today...did three classes at the gym yesterday...maybe a bit too much for my old bones.
Going out to dinner tonight for my brother-in-law's birthday.
Rainy here today...watching the weeds growing overnight in my gardens.

Hope everyone is doing well. Praise Jesus...remember to keep spiritually fit as well as physically. Love, Karen

Hey all,

Good day so far today.
Was able to spent time in prayer this morning before I started my day. Definitely need to do this on a daily basis. It is most important...for sure!
Went to the gym and got spin class in...tough class.
Then off to school to help in the kitchen.

Tomorrow, I have a job interview...pray for me...I will let you know how it goes.

Not sure what I am doing this evening.

The Lord bless you all mightily! Karen

Margaret, my DEAREST friend, you said, "Dearest Susan....I am so pleased that you wouldn't believe it. You have really turned things around for yourself." I can honestly say that it was God's grace--it may seem trite to say this, but in the depths of my heart I know that it is HIM that worketh both to will and do for His good pleasure. I KNOW He will do this for us.

Surrounding you with all my love and prayers for His Spirit to empower us continually.

Oh my I can identify with those feelings Margaret.
I am trying to get past that right now.
Yesterday was still a pretty fair day for me all in all.
So busy. I don't think I ever got here and right now my attitude is slipping spiritually which is not a good thing.
This is my last full week of work for a while and I hope that helps some. We'll see.
Have a worshipful Sunday.

I realised this morning that I've been MIA for a few days...I've still been around but didn't realised that I hadn't written.
Dearest Susan....I am so pleased that you wouldn't believe it. You have really turned things around for yourself. Yay! Yay! Yay!
Lori....so, so sorry about the cholesterol. I know you already do heaps of exercise so the only "natural" way of changing it is change of diet and weight loss. I know you eat pretty healthily so not sure what I can offer there either.

I started the month off with a hiss and a roar getting back on track. By the third I was back to square one. I don't know what to do .... I'm putting on weight, feeling blah, and hungry the whole time, even after eating(so I know it's not really physical hunger. It's emotional hunger. Knowing that doesn't make it any easier to stop eating).....and just don't know how to turn it all around.

A new week starts now. I can start fresh AGAIN.

Blessings to all
Margaret

Well yesterday and today are lower sugar days. I am hoping I can get on a roll and get into a good routine. I started looking at the menopause reset. I get a bit upset with the preliminaries why I am the best to tell you about this and why it's so wonderful but skimmed over a lot of that for now. I am not seeing much I haven't seen or heard before or that's that different except the smaller meals and snacks thing and even that I have heard before. It rings true. I have seen some pretty legitamate research about that. Spreading the calories out evenly and not getting into too many at one sitting seems relavent. I am not sure about the carb info but I am not a big consumer of stachy things these days anyway.
I think oatmeal cookies are pretty much the least sinful out there with the raisins and oatmeal. I use whole wheat flour too, they do well with it.
Soon to head to the gym. I have a big pot of chili in the crock pot for supper. Seems like a good day for that.

Lori, so, so sorry about your cholesterol problems! I'm sure that is very disheartening. {{{huge hugs}}}

Karen, I LOVE Oatmeal cookies! Mmmmm!

Busy day today--after lessons, I leave to go and help my friend [who is moving to South Dakota] pick out a new pair of glasses WHILE the troops stay home for cleaning afternoon! I really feel bad not doing 'my part' but they are so understanding! I don't have much more time to do things with my friend. Tomorrow our whole family [9 out of 10] are going to the their home and helping get the house ready for sale. And then sometime this weekend, my husband and boys [and probably Mary] are going to put up new chicken fencing to HOPEFULLY keep these creatures in the pen and NOT in my flower gardens! Do you know how distressing it is to go out and get chives, only to find them eaten by those blasted animals! And even my perennial flowers are suffering. I want to cry when I see them scratching away at my gardens--ANY chance of 'volunteer' reseed is GONE!

Well, ENOUGH complaining! ha! emoticon

Today is day #6 of 'no sugar' and I'm really satisfied with how the 'smaller' meals/snacks are going! {{{{huge hugs and love to all}}}} Susan

Hi all my fellow sparkies,

Today was a beautiful day. Warm and sunny. Spent some time outdoors with my grandchildren, gardening and playing in the dirt.
My son brought over oatmeal raisin cookies for my husband...his favorite...and of course, I did have to try a couple. Oh well, that was my sugary treat for the day.
Tomorrow is another busy day...have a good night. Karen

Wow sounds like you are doing well.
I had my annual trip to the dr. and a dose of discouragement today.
Time to work hard on my diet for the sake of my Cholesterol.
Maybe if I take a little of the least problematic drug and do a lot of exercise and am super careful what I eat we will get there.
Not a good exercise day with the appointments.
See what I can manage later on tonight.

Good morning, beautiful friends!

Today is cloudy and supposed to rain--if it doesn't I'll be out in my gardens this afternoon. The other day I worked on two of my small gardens and it took me 3 hours! HOW am I going to keep up with sixteen! YIKES! Totally bit off more than I can chew!

Next Monday we begin our bathroom renovation and we are starting our deck project! Pretty excited to get those two projects done!

Nicholas comes home on the 17th so I'll have 8 children in the house again; although my 2nd son says he's moving in with a friend in a couple of weeks. The are renting a house together. I'm trying to see if he'll wait until he returns from bootcamp since he could save that money since he'll only be there for two months before he ships out. We'll see what he decides.

Lori, I HIGHLY recommend Menopause Reset! Excellent book!

Margaret, YES, YES, YES on us embracing a 'license to live'! LOVE it!!! This is day 5 of 'no refined sugar' after my 40-day streak. I'm SO thankful that I didn't go crazy after my indulgence with the frozen custard!

I'm eating smaller meals throughout the day and it's working well. Yesterday my eating went like this: 7:30--piece of toast w/butter [this is my 100% whole wheat], 10:00--102 gr. sweet potato, 12:30 salad w/ sautéed chicken breast & peppers and a WONDERFUL dressing I made with my homemade guacamole and Fage greek yogurt; 3:00--6 cups of popcorn & 25 g. of my hot fudge larabar; 5:30--3 oz meatloaf, 65 g. sweet potato & tomatoes/cukes; 7:30--3 cups of popcorn and another serving of larabar. Trying to keep my carbs to between 18-26 grams a 'meal/snack'. Sometimes it's a bit higher but I think this is working for me.

Also, I'm losing inches with my T-Tapp. I tried on my jeans that I couldn't even zip or button before leaving for my vacation, and now they easily zip and button, albeit a bit tight to wear yet. SO encouraged with that progress even if the scales are not moving much.

Have a GREAT day everyone! Love you all so much! {{{{huge hugs}}}} Susan

Hey Happy May day.
I am at the edge of menopause. Maybe I should look at Menopause reset.
I had a very good day food wise yesterday which at this point means I was only slightly over my calorie range which is probably on the low side for me anyway. I am attached to that Licensed to live idea right now.
I need to get off line and get to the gym but I have to say I am feeling more positive all the way around right now.

Well day one half over and I feel that my head is in a good place for the first time in what seems like eons. ....Not perfect but certainly better....... I'm feeling positive all round in spite of the curved balls that life keeps throwing today.

Now that I'm being more "controlled" and Licensed to Live, the sugar will not be an issue....it has too many calories. (License to Kill is a James Bond book/movie and it just seemed apt because that is what I was doing....giving myself a license to slowly kill myself. It is most certainly not MY phrase.) I have very little fake sugar anyway so that too will not be a problem. I found some custard in the supermarket last week that had less fat AND less sugar. Don't see that often! I need to finish it off but I also need Calcium so in moderation it will work fine. I'm thinking that next weeks challenge may involve not having so much in the way of refined flours as well as sugars....once again easy if you are being stringent on calories.

It's grand to hear from Shannon and Martha again....Welcome, welcome, welcome. Philip Yancey's 'What's so amazing about Grace?' is a wonderful book. I loved it when I read it. Definitely a good read. I love his writing. I'm yet to feel a need for the Menopause Reset although my time will surely come!
