Kettlebells are the largest calorie burner of all cardio exercises (4 calories per minute/2400 calories per hour) because it combines strength training with active aerobic exercise. I do KettleBells once per week on an off day from lifting, and it burns hard.

My routine is an 8 minute circuit, done three times, with a 3-5 minute rest in between. 1min each no rest between of: 2-handed swing, 1-hand swing alternating, high pulls, squats, overhead press, alternating lunges, alternating reach downs, and squat to overhead press. It's a killer. and I sweat buckets.

It won't build muscle -- but will help tone and get you some monster cardio on your non-lift days.

I'm using 25 lb kettles, but hope to move up to higher over time. My big problem, really finding that balance of catabolic and anabolic to lose some weight while gaining muscle.

I'd say rest- otherwise you're using the same muscles every day and not allowing them to rest and repair from the work you've given them.

emoticon I love my Kettlebells, and use them often. As I understand it, the "Hard And Fast Rule" of Strength Training is to Always have a Rest Day between Workouts. I do get that you could do Upper Body one day and Lower Body the next day. And I think that I "Get" that you could do Body Weight Strength Exercises like Planks or Push Ups on Consecutive Days.
emoticon My question is about several Challenges I have seen lately where you commit to do X Number of Kettlebell Swings for X Number of Days. In your Opinion, is it Recommended or Advisable to do Kettlebell Swings every day?

I love my kettle bell- an 8 pounder. I want to progress with the weight so have gradually added arm bands to make the resistance up to 12 pounds to see if I can do the exercises before I purchase another.
I also love using my multi gym and free weights.

I reckon I prefer ST to cardio LOL

emoticon I picked up a couple of books about Kettlebells at the Store where I bought the Kettlebells, and there are some fairly good Instructional Videos on YouTube. I would think that the Best Option would be to find a Class or a Trainer in your area that specializes on Kettlebells.

emoticon I have been doing most of my Lifting at the Gym using the machines and increasing the weight on a fairly regular basis. I have been OK with the Weights I was able to lift, but I am NOT OK with losing No Weight OR Inches in several months.
emoticon A few weeks ago I changed my Plan to doing most of my Lifting at Home, using 15 & 25 pound Kettlebells, 5 pound Dumbbells, 2 pound weighted balls, and (occasionally) a Resistance Band. Hopefully I will start seeing some results soon.
emoticon I knew that I would not be able to Lift as much using Free Weights as I could with the machines, but I have to confess that I am a bit surprised at How Much Less Weight I can pull with Free Weights!
emoticon I have always gone by the rule that you Lifted only 2 - 3 days a week with a Rest Day between each Strength Training Day. But I have seen several conversations/challenges which seemed like they were doing X Number of KB Swings on Consecutive days to achieve a particular Number of Swings in a set amount of days or weeks. Was I reading that wrong, or is it acceptable to Train Daily with Kettlebells?

I just incorporated a kettlebell for the first time a couple weeks ago into my shoulder work out. It is called the one arm kettlebell snatch and the link bellow is a video on how to do it. Kettlebells are great!

I use them in addition to my regular weights. They are great for toning and endurance, but not so good for building big muscles. It all depends on what you are looking to achieve.

The swings and the snatches are the moves I use for a bit of calorie burn with a bit of cardio when I really don't want to work out.

Can't give any insight on these types of weights....trugh be told I saw my first ones this weekend while shopping for some new dumbbell plates and I'm not really sure how one would use such a thing in an overall program.

These look like they give you a really different weight workout. I bought myself a pair of 28 pounders to get my form down before I up the weight.

Anyone else have any experience with these?
