Cherries are the fruit of perennial trees that are closely related to plum, peach, apricot, and almond trees.

Cherry products may have therapeutic potential as sleep aids. Cherries—particularly the Montmorency variety of tart cherries—contain melatonin.

Another sleep study regarding cherries found that the high antioxidant quality of cherries reduced oxidative stress and may be more of a reason than melatonin, for better sleep.
