I think no matter how you do it, you will be out there for 5 plus hours, so eating on the bike is a big of the race. So you need to work on what you will eat or consume on your training rides. I find drinking and gu's very usefull on the run, but I try to use solids on the bike.

Note to future readers of this discussion...Three Gu's is not enough! I took 4 with me just in case but luckily there was plenty of Gu at the aid stations because I ended up consuming 8 Gu's in total. Sure, there were alternatives to Gu, i.e. bananas & pretzels but I just did Gu & water. And I finished with a respectable time :)

Hi, I'm doing my first Half-Ironman on Sunday. I see your advice is to eat a lot on the bike, which is kinda what I was thinking. I plan on bringing a few Gu's with me. Two for the bike and 1 for mid-run. Do you think that will be enough? Whenever I've done a Half-Marathon, I usually do 1 Gu.
