I had a lot of trouble with lack of appetite (though I was on completely different chemo than you are). I found that basically I had to schedule my meals and snacks - and even my water intake!

On the worst days, my partner would send me IMs from work, reminding me I should be eating a particular meal or snack. I would report back when I had eaten what I was supposed to.

Water retention was an issue for me, as well, and I discovered a great trick - brew a tisane (tea) of parsley! I tended to brew it with an herbal tea or put a little bit of lemon juice in it to mask the taste a bit; though it's not horrible.

To brew the tea, put 3-4 sprigs (about 12-15 leaves) of celery into a mug, pour boiling water over it. Swish the sprigs around for 20-30 seconds and remove (I found that leaving it in longer made it taste bitter). If you want to include a teabag, stick that in the cup before adding the water, and remove it when it's fully brewed as normal.

Thanks everyone for your input. For some reason I am not getting notification when someone responds, so I am just "finding" these postings now.

I am not gaining weight, simply staying exactly the same. They have not given me any steroids, but I do know a side effect can be fluid retention, so they ask that I monitor my weight, if I go up 5 lbs they want to know immediately. As they fear fluid around the heart.

Since I posted, I have to tell you as well, the Gynecologist put me on another tablet to do some other wonderful things, (I won't go into) so they can check my ovaries,as there is a concern there as well, and she told me one of the side effects is that it is an appetite stimulate! I was NOT happy about that. Just the last 2 days that has kicked in big time! So she told me "your overweight, you are at high risk for blah, blah, blah" Then give me this pill!! Go figure! (As a side note I was so NOT impressed with her, it may not be a long relationship.)

It all seems to be quite a balancing act. The good news is I have more energy and have been pretty active both yesterday and today. My husband has commented he's noticed a change. And I must say it just feels good to be doing things.

A diagnosis of cancer does change your outlook, and I find more pleasure in the small things. Like a long weekend. What a wonderful gift to spend with family.

I hope you all enjoy it fully.
Blessings,
Debbie

Are they giving you steroids with the chemo? I am getting them with mine, and my weight has been up a couple of pounds, but still within my goal weight range. I think the steroids are causing me to feel a bit bloated.

Maybe it is something in the chemo that is hindering your weight loss or like you said your not eating enough of something. I know I had a problem with weight when I was on chemo and I took a pill form. I will be keeping you in my prayers. Congrats on becoming a Grandma soon. That is life's Blessings I must say! God Bless emoticon Debbie

Question: Since I have started Chemo - almost 3 weeks ago, I have not been eating much. But I am not loosing - anything. I know you have to eat enough, but I've been eating almost no processed foods (cutting way back on sodium) not eating in the evening - which used to be the major snack time. But because I take my chemo tablet with the evening meal, it upsets my stomach a bit, so after dinner, I might have a piece of fruit, that is it. Because of the medication and the disease, I really don't feel like eating much, as I always feel "full", as a result of the tumor, coming from my stomach. I know I should be exercising more. But any advice?
