The Peach Festival was a bust - so disappointing, so not what we expected - knocking that off my list.

So we leave early and my 16yr old daughter wants me to see with her "The Fault in our Stars"
(teen cancer movie)... Don't know why I agreed - cried like a baby the entire movie (full snot and all). She wanted to see it because she likes the cute guy in the movie. Interesting how she didn't take into consideration how I would feel. It's a teenager thing I guess

Kay, I'm glad you are feeling well enough for all that activity, it's amazing how far you have come!

Just a typical quiet Saturday at home for me; a little sleepy, but I got the 2 most important things done on my list for today, my workout and the laundry.

Ida, I didn't realize you are a 4 time cancer survivor. Amazing! I can't imagine.....

Ali, have fun at the Peach Festival. I wonder if those cooling towels actually work. I think I'd take one if they do with that kind of heat!

I signed up for a 5k in Oct. in Las Vegas. A group of us from the Sept. 2013 chemo thread on breastcancer.org are getting together in Vegas over Columbus Day weekend and we have decided to do the run as a team....now, I just need to train for it! I started this morning. It's the first time I have attempted running since treatment. I downloaded the c25k app for my phone. It starts with running for 60 seconds and walking for 90 seconds and repeating that for 20 minutes (5 minute walking warmup and cool down). It felt great doing it. So happy!

Shari, I hope you have a good day today.

Hugs,
Kay

Welcome Alison...... I am a 4 time cancer survivor. The last one was breast cancer. I have been cancer free for the breast cancer for 5 years now. The longest of the other 3 is 35 years. I feel so lucky to still be around.
Just got my mammogram report back in the mail and it was clear. Praise God.
Everyone have a great weekend.

Hi All,
Welcome Alison, I'm glad you found us. I'm a breast cancer survivor and just finished treatment about 2 months ago. Since getting breast cancer, I am constantly learning about all the different kinds of cancer there are. Thank you for explaining your cancer. Do they do scans or just check for symptoms with yours since it can pop up anywhere? It's amazing how cancer changes our lives. Wishing you the best.

I had to go to Vanderbilt this week to get a lump checked out. They did a mammo and ultrasound. They are 98% sure it is fat necrosis. They said they would do a biopsy to confirm if I wanted it. I'm not sure what I want to do. After researching fat necrosis a bit, I realize it's difficult for them to know for sure because they can mimmic cancer on mammos and US. I have to go back to Vandy in three weeks to see the GI doc for my Crohn's disease, so I might get a biopsy then. I have about a week to decide in order to get the biopsy scheduled for the date I'll be in Nashville again. I believe everything is okay, but I also feel like I can't afford to take chances with this.

Welcome to the team Alison. I am a 14 year uterine cancer survior. My cancer returned in my lungs, but I am currently considered stable. We are here for you when you need us.

I am ready to leave for vacation, all that is left is to take the dog to kennel and pack the car.
We hope to get a good start in the morning, but I guess there is a lot of construction around Chicago. I probably will not be online until middle of next week so don't worry about me.

Take care everyone!

Thanks Shari! Sending my positive thoughts your way right now...
Every time I'm in the Oncologists waiting room I think, "what a crappy "club" to be part of" and it's a real slap of reality for me - I live in denial until I'm in that room. At least now being part of this group I have you guys which can relate to this bag of emotions.

Welcome to the team Alison!

Congrats on being a survivor! My first cancer diagnosis was 11 years ago, and there are still some aspects of it that are still hard for me to talk about without tearing up. I am now in treatment for a recurrence of my breast cancer, when it returned, it spread to my bones.

You will be in my prayers, and I hope that you will continue to heal and be 100% pain free!

Hi! I'm Alison. I had a stage 2 carcinoid tumor removed from my colon 1 year ago, July 1st. It was found during a colonoscopy - It's cancer in my colon, not colon cancer. This type of cancer can pop up anywhere so I now have a life long relationship with my oncologist. Good thing I like her...I still have a difficult time speaking about it so being on this site and writing this is a big step. I am 51 years old, and have a history of cancer on both sides of the family. My surgery didn't heal well and in December I had a gigantic hernia repair. I'm finally about 98% pain free from that one so I ready to get back in shape and eat healthy.

I am so ready for this vacation. I am going in early tomorrow with hopes of leaving early. I had no data on my desk when I left today at 4:15. If I can't leave early I will use the over time I have put in this week instead of PTO for Friday.

I have been taking a workout vacation also. I have been dealing with a lot of soreness so I decided to take a short vacation and get going again when I get back from my vacation.

I am looking forward to seeing my family, but am also looking forward to my couple days here at home before going back to work.

Take care everyone!!!

Julie, enjoy your vacation! When I was working, it always seemed to me that the last day of work before a vacation was always the longest.

My best friend took me to get my groceries and some prescriptions today. Glad to have my errands all done for the week. Hoping to get something productive done at home during the next few days, other than just my workouts.

Thank you, Shari, I think it's better for everyone all the way around. He can get unemployment until he finds something else, so that's something anyways:)

Sorry to hear of your nephew quitting, but hopefully he will have a chance now to find something where he will be happy.

Not much going on with me today; just had my monthly lab work done for my oncologist.

Ida, I'm so happy to hear that your DH is eating healthy! That makes such a difference!

Shari, congratulations on your 8 year Sparkversary! Glad you had your monthly luncheon. I think it's good for all of us to get out once in awhile.

Thank you all for your support about my son's dog. He came over with him last night and the poor little thing just lied there. He is doing okay though. He has adjusted to just 2 legs really well, but I hate that he has too!

Kay, sounds like your hobby, really isn't that much fun.lol At least you got it done though!

My nephew and co-worker just up and quit this morning. We weren't there 5 minutes when he got mad about something and quit. I will miss him riding to work with me in the morning, but it's better he quit now so he can and we can move on. He really hated the job, and was angry all the time over every little thing! He should have given my brother at least a few days notice though. I hate to say it, but I think he got mad because my brother was working at his desk again and he hates it when my brother sits there because he's disorganized and leaves things scattered all over, but it's necessary for him to help dispatch until we get there. we don't go in until 9 and they start at 8 or sometimes even earlier. Oh well, what's done is done now:)

Thank you Kay!

Felt sleepy most of the day today. We had some thunderstorms, along with heavy rain move through last night from around 8:30pm til after 1:30am, so I didn't get much sleep last night.

Had my monthly lunch out today with some of the ladies I use to work with, and ended up taking an hour and half nap after I got home.

Kay...

Thanks for the encouragement. We eat healthy but I am trying to find foods that will help his heart. I have this little book Healing Fruits & Juices from the Bible that tells a lot about the different fruits & veggies that are good for the heart. We like all that are listed, but as everyone knows food is not cheep any more. Will buy what we can each week.

Hope everyone had a good 4th. We stayed home and just enjoyed relaxing and went to bed before the fireworks began.

Sue, I'm sorry to hear about your son's dog. I hope he is not in a lot of pain.

Ida, that is great about trying to change to healthier foods for your hubby. That's got to be good for both of you. Hope he is able to get an appointment with a heart doctor soon.

Julie, have fun on vacation!

Shari....congrats on your anniversary.

I went to exercise class this morning, so I have that goal accomplished. It's been a lot cooler here than predicted which is nice....it makes it easier to get yard work done outdoors. I'll probably tackle a little more weeding today. It's never ending around my house in the summer time. I just remind myself that gardening is one of my hobbies and that this is "fun." I always like the end result.

Sue, I hope your sons dog will be OK.

I have had a quiet Sunday. We went out for breakfast and then bought dog food. I got most of the laundry done yesterday so I got to relax. We went into town and did some shopping DH needed some new shorts since we are going on vacation the end of the week. I spent a little time on my quilt but fell a sleep so I am going to work on it for a while tonight.

It's back to work tomorrow.

Take care!

Sue, I'm so sorry to hear about your son's min pin. I hope something can be worked out so he can have the surgery.

I just realized yesterday, my 8 year Spark-versary was the 3rd of this month; somehow, that day just slipped by me. I've been on this team almost as long. I think this was one of the first teams that I joined.

Having a good day. Went to church with DH. Came home and made a big salad with lots of veggies even added garlic. Been trying to get really healthy things that are god for the heart into my DH to see if it will help him. We are still waiting for our DR to refer him out to a heart DR.

Good morning! My son's mini pinscher jumped out of his jeep going 35 miles an hour down the road! His leash broke and he went rolling across the road. He banged his head up and had a concussion, and scraped off part of a bone in his right front leg. The poor thing only has 3 legs anyways, and now he can't use his front leg either. They want $2000 to do surgery on his leg and move the bone back in place, screw it in place, and let it grow back. without the surgery it will fuse itself to where it is now, and it has moved up his arm. The xrays and exam already cost $300! He is 8 years old too. So that's already getting old for a dog.

Happy Sunday Morning!

We went to a party yesterday given by our next-door neighbors. I was nice to meet some of our other neighbors. The weather here has been beautiful over the holiday weekend. We have been fortunate. Today, I'm meeting with some girlfriends for lunch. Other than that...I don't have much going on. Now that I'm feeling better from treatment ending, I realize I need to plan more activities for myself. My brain has been going to the "what ifs" over this somewhat slow weekend.

We had a quiet but busy 4th. We spent most of the day catching up on yard work. I mowed with the push mower while hubby used the rider. We have some tight area that he can't get with he rider. I did get another kids quilt finished. I have six to take with on our visit to moms so I can sew binding down while we sit and visit.

Today I have been sewing I got one of new purse made. It wasn't difficult but I had to read instructions a few times. I will post a picture. Hubby has been working on the tree that we lost in the storm a few weeks ago. We may have a camp fire tonight to burn some of the wood.
We are keeping the wood to make a terraced floor bed at the end of our deck.

Have a great Sunday.

Thank you Kay; when it comes to exercise, doing those streaks helps to keep me motivated.

My 4th was quiet too; I didn't make any plans because I didn't know how I would feel, or how late I would feel like staying up. I did see most of the fireworks though; I don't live far from where they shoot them off; I can actually see them from my kitchen window. I saw about 80% of the display, the trees blocked my view of the ones that didn't go as high in the air.

Ida, I'm sorry to hear about your husband's test results. I know that has your both really concerned. (((hugs)))

Shari, that's amazing that you were able to put together a 20 day streak before you had to break it. I need to think of you and how you stick to your exercise whenever I want to blow mine off!

We had a quiet 4th. For the past 8 years, I have hosted the family get together on the 4th. This year, I just didn't feel like doing it....so I didn't. On the 4th, I wished that I had gone ahead and invited everyone....it was too quiet! Since I was feeling bettter than I expected to be, hubby and I decided on the spur of the moment to go visit my mom in assisted living. I think it really made her day and made our 4th much nicer.

Note to self: even if I don't feel like planning holiday celebrations....it's probably a good idea to suck it up and do it anyway! I will have more fun that way in the long run!

Hope everyone had a good 4th of July! I watched the fireworks from across the street with my two sons and my nephew. They were pretty cool!

I went to my work this morning for the first time since Kraig started teaching the class. I have worked with Kraig before. It was a good workout. He spent time making sure we were doing the exercise correctly so we got the most out of them. My legs are sore tonight.

I started my long weekend a few hours early leaving work at 2:00. I got the chores none so when my hubby gets home we can go get dinner and do some shopping.

Have a Happy 4th of July. emoticon emoticon

Be safe.

emoticon Kay, I'm so sorry about the diagnosis of Chrohn's. And Ida, I'm sorry you did not get better news about your DH.

Julie, looking forward to seeing the purses when you get them done.

I missed my Sparking yesterday; had a migraine and a gastroparesis flare up, but this afternoon, I finally started feeling better. I couldn't do my workout yesterday, but before that, I had a 20 day streak going.

Got results from DH tests. they were not good. They are setting up with a heart DR. Part of the problem is his he has a enlarged left ventricle, and the blood id not flowing goon when pumping out just to mention some.

I made some ice cream this morning. It was made out of yogurt and strawberries. It doesn't taste all that bad and it is healthy. I only had a spoon full to try.

Did get 15 min on the stationary bike also along with 3.26 mile walk.

I had a pretty good day. set my alarm this morning for 5:30 but I was wake so I was at work by 5:30. I am a morning person, I would rather go in to work early then stay late. I worked 10 hours today. I am may try to leave early tomorrow.

I stopped at Joanne Fabrics and picked up the last few things I need to make the two purse kits I bought. I hope to work on them over the weekend. I will post a picture when I get them done.

Going to spend some time quilting tonight.

Take Care!!

OH Kay! You have been through so much this past year and now Crohns Disease too. I'm so sorry! My DD has that and has so many problems with her stomach. She is on meds too, that are very expensive, but they really help. Good luck and God bless!

Julie, glad you got your exercise in. I have to start walking again or something!
Ida, good job on getting your exercise in too!
Shari, I'm always amazed at how you do your chair exercises all the time. I can walk, and still I just sit here and don't do anything:(
Ihope to change that this month:)

Hi All,
I had what I thought was going to be a routine scope of my ileoanal pouch last week. It turns out that the doctor thinks I have Crohn's disease according to the pathology reports from the test. She wants to do a barium enema in a couple weeks and then talk about treatment. I've always had a lot of digestive issues since I have a pouch, but never realized how bad it was. Apparently the lining of my intestines looks pretty bad.

Since I just finished my cancer treatments a little over a month ago, I'm not real excited about taking more medicine. I've lived with these symtoms for years. I was depressed when I first got the information, but now I'm to the point where I'm willing to listen and see what the doctor recommends. I know my chances of intestinal cancer are much higher with this diagnosis, so I'm sure that is going to mean more frequent monitoring than what I was doing. I hadn't been to a GI doc in 32 years since I had my colon removed and the pouch made. I think all that is about to change......

I had a pretty good day starting with my morning workout.

Not to much happening here. My hubby went to work today and lasted about 6 hours.

I am a bit tired tonight so have been snoozing on the couch!

Have a great evening!

We were under a severe thunderstorm watch til 2am last night. We had a couple of storms roll through with loud cracks of thunder, but nothing that ended up being severe. It's much cooler today and windy, and the humidity is way down too.

Everyone is talking about storms and we are 106 degrees here! It's hard for me to imagine all that rain and snow I always hear about:)
My GD got her phone back-yay! Her Dad went to the church after work last night and it was there! The little brat didn't even call me and tell me.lol

We just had a big storm roll through here. We mainly got rain with a few loud cracks of thunder. I guess we had storms last night that I slept through.

Hubby is feeling better and is going to try going to work for a few hours tomorrow. He talked to the short term disability insurance today so they should cover any hours he is unable to work starting today. It starts after being off work for 5 days.

I think the next few weeks may be light on workouts. I am going to do my boot camp work outs but may not get much else in.

I am a bit tired tonight, I worked 10 hours today. Still trying to get things under control before vacation. Unfortunately I won't get time and half for the extra hours because of the holiday.

Have a great evening!

Julie

Good afternoon!

Hot and humid outside today; it still doesn't seem that long ago that everyone was wondering when our long, cold and snowy winter would ever end. There are thunderstorms in the forecast for tonight, and I am feeling the weather changes in my joints today, hurting all over today. It's supposed to be cooler tomorrow, so I am hoping I will feel better since I'll have to do my grocery shopping tomorrow.

Had a great Sunday service at church yesterday. It helped a lot. Today I have a stress headache that just won't go away. I know what it caused from. I have tried to massage the back of my neck, temples, tried to just close my eyes and think positive thoughts. I have also tried going out and working in my garden. I know that God will take it away in his time. I just need to relax.

I took my GD to that church she has been wanting to go to and she was so excited she could hardly contain herself.lol At one point she said she was so excited she felt like she was freaking out! She loved the whole thing, and was taking pictures and sending them to her FB page then set her phone down while we stood up to sing....that was the last she saw of her iphone!

This church is way the heck out there, and we didn't know anyone, and it was our first time there. We searched and searched and kept checking at the lost and found. Quite a few people helped us look as well. I left my number and she cried all the way home. She said her mom said if anything happened to that phone she would have to go back to the little flip phone that doesn't do anything but text and call.

We told her mom in Arizona, and her mom had it tracked to the church address and said no one has used it since 10 o'clock this morning, so I was going to take her back up there, but they don't have an evening service and no one is there until tomorrow at 6 pm when they have a men's prayer service. Her Dad is going to go there after work and try to find it for her. I sure hope he can!
Poor kid! She was so excited, then so upset! What a roller coaster of emotions for her today.

Kay, I like your new profile picture.

I have had a fairly relaxing day. I am still finishing up laundry, last load is in the washer.

My quartet met and played on the front porch at Nancy's. We just played through what ever music we wanted, not really working on anything. We have another wedding to play in October.

Hubby has had a pretty good day today, we will want and see if see spikes a fever tonight.

Well its back to work tomorrow but it will be a short week because of the holiday on Friday.

Take care!

Kay, your hair has really grown a lot! It looks like it is growing pretty fast now, that must be a great feeling!

Sue, I know when you are feeling run down, it's really hard even keeping up with the minimum of housework; that's kind of where I am at right now.

I had to take a break from the afghan I am making for my sister; didn't have quite enough yarn to finish it, so I had to order some more. I also ordered yarn to make one for my mom for Christmas. While I am waiting for my order, I still have an unfinished counted cross stitch project to work on.

Thank you all! Love your new profile picture Kay! Your hair is really growing back in now! I have been using the ecig a little bit. Maybe you're right Kay, and the coughing probably is good for me, I never thought of it that way:)

Julie, that is cool that he let you trade the 4 sessions! hope you like the group!

If you can do it after 40 years Ida, then maybe there is hope for me yet:)

I got a lot of cleaning done yesterday too! When I moved into this apartment, I really loved it, but I was going through treatment then and didn't take care of it like I should have. It has gotten really dirty over the past 2 years because I have done just the minimum. I spent yesterday changing things around and wiping down the vertical blinds and walls and cleaning under things, and going through things and I have a few things to get rid of. It has made me feel better already:)

Shari, I'm glad you are able to keep up your workouts and chores. you have been through so much lately!

I want to keep cleaning so I better get off the computer soon and get busy! Have a great Sunday everyone!
