MAGNOLIA416, I LOVE your profile picture! EBRAINK, I can't find New York Fashion Fabrics. Got New York Fashion Center Fabrics, but it's silk and other such apparel fabrics, not performance stuff. Can you tell me a link?

Since this thread is supposed to be about Yarn Bombing (which is wicked cool), I'm gonna start a new one about costume run costumes.

Ah, such fun to think of fun run costumes! I've not been any more clever than pulling together running skirts & shirts with kooky patterns. I love to browse New York Fashion Fabrics (they specialize in performance fabrics like the kind used to make dance and skating costumes) and think about what we can come up with that sort of fits the theme. Usually that's just an extremely bright or wacky-patterned skirt, though my niece has done runs with her husband dressed as Raggedy Ann & Andy, and similar sorts of 'his n her" things. (I help stitch where I can.)

Devils...hmmm. Deviled eggs? Devil-may-care? el Diablo Hot sauce? It might be fun to just run "as yourself" but strap a couple of dolls to your shoulders, one dressed as an angel and one dressed as a devil. The angel would, of course, be saying "RUN RUN RUN!!!" and the devil would say "EAT PIE!!!!! NAP!!!!!" emoticon

Fun Run Costumes! I need help thinking up a costume for a Devil's Chase. There are awards for the best devil costume (which can be The Devil, or Cruella DeVil, or the Tasmanian Devil, or Devil's Food Cake), but I also need it to be something I can run 6.66 miles in without overheating. What cool costumes have you worn?

I was in a meeting today and found myself drooooooooling over the gorgeous ROYAL blue alpaca yarn that a friend was magically transforming into a shawl, whilst interesting ideas were bandied about. Never have I so wished I could knit. But alas - every time I've ever fallen in love with the color or texture of a lovely yarn, I've only managed to torture it. Best I should avoid knittery. I do much better with the sewing machine and serger, and even then, only on projects like goofy costumes to wear on a fun run.

I can knit, just the basics, but if I make a mistake, I can't correct it, so I never actually finish anything because I realize partway through that I need to pull a bunch of it back out and get demoralized.

My attempts at learning to knit always end in frustration. I quilt, and cross stitch, but yarn just seems to slip off the needles when I try to knit.

I haven't been able to find any sort of online list of recent yarnbombs, but there have been news stories about them... I have to say, when I see the signs, I'm delighted, as when I notice Spring ephemerals blooming.

Someone hit the handrails in one of the stairwells of College Library...not completely, but a few 6-8" wraps. Practice for bigger things, I think.

Elsewhere, streetlamps wore scarves. More practice?

I don't know.

I am pleased to report that several of the post-cozies are still in place on the bike trail. I still laugh out loud when I pass by them.

How Awesome! I would love to find something like this on my local trails. I saw a few yarn bombs on Fire Hydrants in a City nearby, pretty cool :)

That's almost enough to make me take up knitting. And explains a bike rack in my neighborhood...

On an utterly frivolous note (and those of you who are knitters may enjoy this), when I finally got to my daily commute today, I found that the mileposts that mark the city path on which I ride had been bedecked with "post cozies" by a band of yarn bombers.

I love this!

See: http://bikepathyarnart.wordpress.com/ for pictures and the story behind the knittery and crochetery.
