Thanks for all your caring messages & goodies.

Today is the day of the funeral. Mum is keeping up wello so far. Hope she won't fall into an emotional hole afterwards.

My oldest brother & youngest sister are coming. I will go with my youngest sister afterwards to stay with her a few days.

Looking forward to that. Then on the weekend I will be back here. Flying back to Kenya in 1 weeks time

Hey all, I am fine! But the bf just went to Canada, and his ex supposedly just went to the hospital. So I have to get the kid from school and watch the kid probably for the week or more. So I am going to leave in a couple of hrs, and I might not be on here much more today! And I have no idea what my schedule is going to be this week. It might be the first time I don't logging every thing each day on time? I will try to keep up with SP as much as possible, but just don't know what is going to happen right now?

The bf leaves for Canada for the Week Monday morning and his ex will be gone part of the last of next week too. So I will be watching their 8 yr old boy for them myself. But at least we have the schedule all worked out finally, so I am not so stressed about what is happening when. I know when I am suppose to get him off to school, when I am suppose to pick him up from school, and when I am suppose to get him to football practice, and what times the switch off with his mom will be. The boy had another football game today and their team won for the first time! Woo hoo, it was a close call but they won. Better than getting skunked like the last two games.
Well I wish you all the best always.

I am taking Evening primrose 100mg twice a day.

Have reached Switzerland. We even managed to find affordable black outfits for ourselfs with Mom. Then we got a lot of official stuff done.
My siblings have planned it all out how I will get over to Germany to spend a few days with them as well.
So it sounds like I will have some fun as well

Steph, so sorry to hear about your step dad. All my best to you and your's always.

Hmmm, I use to take evening primrose a lot as it is suppose to be good for a lot of stuff. I took it most before the perimenopause and during it. But I don't remember it seeming to help any of those symptoms. I might just have to get a bottle of it again and try it. I think I use to take 3-4 caps a day back then. How often are you taking it?

I took Estroven for a while and it really seemed to help. And then I stopped for some reason, I forget why now. And then when I tried it again, it didn't seem to do anything for me.

Wow JMAHNKEN,

that sounds like complicated nights.... Since I started taking Evening Primrose Capsules, all the symptoms like hot flashes & mood swings have reduced. Especially those worse during PMS time.

Just got sad news. Mum called, Stepdad passed away last night. He had cancer recurrence and we knew his lung were affected, so we knew he didn't have long.
Now I have to decided if I travel or not. Really don't have the money right now. But will play it by the ear. Let's see how Mum will be coping by evening then I will decide.

I haven't had what I would call a true "hot flash" for many yrs now. In the late 90's and early 2000's I had the typical "hot flashes". And it didn't seem to matter what time of the yr it was. But it never seemed to fail that as soon as I would just get started trying to make dinner, I would always get one and have to turn the stove down or off, or have some one else watch it so I could run out side and get some fresh air for a second for it to go away before I could stand going back into finishing the cooking. And the night time sweets and then waking up drenched just to end up freezing shortly after because you were drenched, especially in the cold winter months was the worse.
But my TOM stopped in 2010 and before that time, the true "Hot flashes" had already stopped. Before the hot flashes and all, I use to run cold all the time. Always needing to keep a sweater or jacket with me, while everyone else could be just fine or warm. But before my TOM stopped I started switching from always being cold, to having an almost constant hot/cold thing going on. Where one second I am feeling cold so I put a light sweater on. And then I just get comfortable, and then a few seconds later I feel like I am burning up. So I take it off. And then I just get comfortable, and then I am getting cold again. And that goes on and on. That happens more in the fall, winter, and spring time. In the summer time I am usually running on the warm side now while everyone else might be just fine or even cool. And for some reason a lot of the times I feel like I got hotter just after I decided to go to bed too. I could be perfectly fine and dressed up in long pants and all. Then go put on a thin night gown which should make me feel even cooler. But shortly after getting in bed with just a sheet on I feel like I am burning up and kick the sheet off and turn the fan on. All the while the bf is already under covers and then wanting another blanket because I turned the fan on, or wants the fan off, lol. But some times he too is saying that it is really warm and he is just sleeping on top of all the covers, or kicking them off too. That is how it has been lately, too hot and muggy for both of us.

Junia, hot flashes no matter what the weather! Although they really drive me nuts in the summer, I consider them "waves of warmth" when it gets to -20 or -30F outside.

Interesting. I just find them more uncomfortable during the hot season. Especially when trying to sleep or when already boiling in a car.....

But then I think we are different anyway.

We finally had some sunshine this morning again, but now it has disappeared. At least it is warm enough to sit in short sleeves.

Has anyone noticed that flashed are related to outside temperature? I've got them the second year now. I was going crazy last summer with them, but as winter came they were few and rare. With the warmer weather they reappeared and now as it is getting colder are fewer again. Or is it just me?

We cannot win eternal joy by living on the surface.

It's not the heat that gets me the most it is the muggy part of it. I hate when I feel like I am just constantly dripping with sweat. I even took a cool shower before going to bed and it didn't help at all. It felt better while I was in the shower and a few mins after. But I got dried off and then shortly after I was just drench in sweat again.
I like the dry heat of the desert though, we use to go camping out there a lot growing up and I didn't mind that at all.
I am spoiled, I like it just right, not too cold and not too hot. But I can take the cold better than the muggy heat.

JMAHNKEN,

I am missing warm & muggy.... LOL. But at least yesterday we got a break, the sun came out, it warmed up and I enjoyed my round of golf getting plenty vit D.

Today we are back to grey & cold, but at least no rain.

Am busy working on my systems, but we are getting somewhere, so it is fun.

We are still really warm and muggy here in Escondido, California. We have been in the high 80's to high 90's lately. At night it cools down some and we might be in the 60's to high 70's.

Steph, I hope you get some sunshine too! We are winding down the summer here. It was 35 degrees this morning. The trees are just beginning to change and with the cooler weather, I'm sure they will really change too. Interesting to see how the rest of the world seasons are effecting them!

Another rainy & cold day in Africa. Hey this is the season where it is supposed to get warmer again..... September used to be quite hot. This is the third year in a row, where it is cold (57F this morning), drizzly, foggy and raining. The African effect of global warming.
I am sitting in a woolen sweater and am still cold.

Well, hope we will get some sunshine over the weekend, am planning to visit my friends in Machakos area, they live 3km off the tarmac.

D is doing ok so far. Feeling dizzy and getting constipated, but the nausea is kept in check by some other drugs. Her Mum, who lives in the US is coming for a visit tomorrow night. so at leas she will not be alone and will have someone who makes sure she eats good food & takes good care of herself.

Hi Debby,

thanks, she had her review and has been put on oral chemo this time. Apparently at the moment there is no iv option for her. She has bought the meds and started taking them. Have not yet talked to her, since she spend the night at another friends house, whose son was cooking a special dinner for her.

I also hope the best for her.

Today I had a really good day even with my sunburn. I got up early and went and bought myself a nice, big black floppy hat that is kind of dressy but also kind of causal and some good sun block. Then we took off to the horse races for something different to do as another celebration thing for the bf's b-day and something fun for the kid. I think we stayed for about 6 races, so about half of them. Then we went out to dinner at an all you can eat place called Hometown Buffet and I am really proud of myself I got just a little piece of steak, a baked potato, corn bread, and loaded my plate over flowing with salad fixings, and some fruit. Then I had just a little bit of ice cream as my dessert. Unlike the guys, I didn't go back several times getting more and more food and desserts. And I got in over 7 miles walking today too. The bf gave me a $20 to bet with and said that what ever I won over the $20 was mine to keep. I only bet $14 dollars and I won $11 of it back. So I only lost $3.00 dollars of the bf's money, I had fun picking the horses and I wasn't out any money of my own. I was just picking them by their names or the looks of the horses or both and I was doing better than the guys that were looking at all the stats of the horses, the trainers and jockeys. So that was fun! Especially not having to worry about if I lost all the money or not, lol.

Well take care all, tomorrow I got to get up early and get the kid off to school for the bf that needs to go into work early. Janette

Good morning everyone. Hope you are waking up to a good day... Ok I know in USA you just went to bed.....

Had a nice dinner at an Indian restaurant with BF and a friend, who was staying with me. We had so much fun and the food was so yummy. Now my friend is off to the hospital to find out what Chemo she will get. She has a relapse of cancer, lymph nodes in the neck, but at least her lungs are free.
Wishing her all the best. At least the kids are back in boarding, so she does not have to worry about them.

Hi JMAHNKEN

sounds like you had a fun weekend. Sorry about your sunburn. i got a bit of sun myself, but since there was a league match scheduled at my golf club, I only got to play 9 holes and that was not enough for a full sunburn. Just some slight redness.

Hope your burn cools down & heal soon.

Am in the office getting ready for the week.

Hi ladies, all my best to you always.

I am doing fine except for the sun burn I got yesterday. But I have been putting aloe vera on several times a day and I think it is helping. We all went out for a nice dinner together tonight as a late celebration for the bf's b-day. It was an all you can eat Asian BBQ place, I think I did okay on it. I tried to limit my meat and filled up on salad.

Good night and take care everyone

good night all, I had a good time at the football game but got too much sun, so it is aloe vera time, and time to go to bed. We had a long day of errands first and then the long game, and then more errands afterwards.

I am taking St. John's wart currently and think it's helping. But you might want to ask my husband to be sure! LOL I have noticed a change tho, I feel like my mood is better.

It does however have a lot of interactions with medications. So if you are on medication you need to cross check first.

St. John's Wort definitely has its place in treatment of skin diseases and scars etc. At home we always applied the sap directly on warts and they fall off after a few days.
Then we have also treated scars & skin disease with "red oil", which is made from Olive Oil & St. John's Wort and heat.
But it is also used for Depression & peri-menopausal symptoms. Just haven't seen any experiences from users.

Do you research about St. John's Wort. I heard a few years ago that it wasn't a good thing to take.

Now?

Dear Berry,

thanks for the tip on melatonin. I can see it is one of the things in St.John's Wort. Does anyone have experience with St.John's Wort? I remember women at home using St.John's Wort during Peri.

So sorry to hear it Steph. I know I haven't been sleeping well myself for a long time. Family stress some times keeps me up with my mind racing, and other times it is more just health issues with infections, colds, bladder, what ever bothering me, and the weather has been muggy a lot which also doesn't help. All my best to you all always.

IMO- -and from what I've learned, estrogen overload can be caused by diet, environment, many items we are exposed to and can take MONTHS of work to find balance.

On those nights of poor sleep, I have found "preventative" melatonin (taken BEFORE I go to bed, the 1st time) to be helpful to fall back to sleep quickly. It doesn't mean I don't wake up, but it seems to help my brain not turn "on" to prevent falling back to sleep.

Good luck!

Last night was one of those nights not conducive to sleep......

The rain, the dogs and the thunders kept triggering different car alarms in our parking lot (not far from my ear.....) and I kept on waking up. Then there were some things that kept on springing into my mind. Had a hard time sleeping. The longest I slept at a go was about 2 hrs.

Today am feeling accordingly, like I have been run over by a truck......

TOM is extended again. Friday it was like it was finishing. Saturday I had rashes again and since yesterday it is like it started again. Just like last month. I guess i am still in Estrogen Overload. Need to find the time to see a second Doctor for second opinion, since I am not interested in this to continue......

Hope you all have a good start into the week

Berry4,

sorry don't know what a vitamix is.... LOL so no opinion on that from Africa..... Ok I looked it up, so it is some form of blender. Well don't know the difference to others.

JMAHNKEN,

so far the cold seems to be under control. Only little headache this morning and throat definitely imprved. Yesterday when I got home after work & lunch with BF I went straight to bed and slept 2-3 hours, then I still went to bed relatively early. I guess I needed it....

Went to play golf this morning and only coughed a bit, but then I had forgotten to use my asthma inhalor (stupid of me.....).

So let's hope for the best

I guess it would depend on the price of it and the price of a new one? I just started to use my bullet again instead of the juicer my bf got me a while back. They both work and both only hold a little. But the bullet puts the juice right with the pulp and the juicer separates them. I guess it would really depend on what you wanted the machine for and how much of a bargain it really is.

I fixed wild Coho salmon steaks for dinner a couple of nights ago... Yum!

Looking for an opinion / feedback: Would you purchase a reconditioned Vitamix if you had the chance? (comes w/ a 5-yr factory warranty)

sounds like you have some tough times right now, feel sorry for the boy and what his Mum is putting him through now.

Am at work. 2 more hours to go and I can finally start my weekend.
The technicians are busy staging for a major project. We have to deliver on Monday. NO time for full staging, only functionality test & programming of IP addresses. Then we have to keep our fingers crossed, that all will go well during installation. We had so many delays and have a tight deadline to meet.

this kept us busy all week. Am sooooo looking forward to the weekend. BF has to travel out of town, but want to catch a quick lunch with him before her leaves. Rest of the weekend I will just kind of crash. Feel like I have another cold coming.

Wishing all a great weekend

Sort of glad it's Friday. DH has been home on vacation, so it's been really nice inspite of the colds we have.

Evidently, having a leaky gut can make colds worse. ~ sigh

Hello Ladies, all my best to you all always. And thanks Debbie.

I am amazed that with all that has been going on lately that my ibs hasn't hit again. So I must be doing better at handling the stress. All though late Monday and early Tuesday were really stressful. Things are going a lot smoother right now, but I am still waiting for the next shoe to drop I think.

The bf's son was suppose to be with us most of this week due to his mom being on business trips. But some of them got cancelled and she was home yesterday. So the son wanted to go and be with her. But instead he only got to go over there for a short visit with the bf to discuss some issues that have came up. But the ex wasn't up to keeping him over night, so he came back to us. Luckily the night went really well, as he could have acted out just because his mom was home, but didn't want to have him spend the night with her. He is suppose to get to go to her after school today and spend the night, so we will have to see if she really does that, or she sends him back to us? I have a feeling that he will be with us mostly the next few months.

As for exercise and challenges, I think the easier they are to do and log the better chance of participation. Especially on my part, I belong to a lot of teams and even run a monthly exercise challenge for the Wii Fit Plus team. Instead of making every one do the same thing or choose from a couple of things like we use to do, I had to switch it so that all and any exercise counts, even house work. And every one just had to keep tract of how many mins they got in per day and for the month. They got to log what it was if they wanted, like walking, swimming, various activities, house work and such. Most of us log that type of stuff any ways in here, so it isn't that hard to get that daily/monthly total. So you could do some thing like that. Or tracking your water intake is also another good and easy one. Tracking your steps might be fun for those that have pedometers or such that could give them the info.

Well take care everyone.

Hi everyone,

hope that all those who have been feeling under the weather feel better now.

I am just under work pressure. Finally went for my review on Monday. Doctor says the thinning endometrium, they found in the histology is a sign of end of peri being near. Well just to make this statement look like a joke I started TOM that day. Started slowly and then hit with a vengeance. This morning I was basically dripping.... Well it has slowed down now.

Fibroids seem to have shrunk as well.

Now Doctor is suggesting uterus ablation. Not sure what method they use. Also she has taken some more blood for thyroid test. Am waiting for that result now.

Still want to go for a second opinion.

Did get out of the house for a bit, tho.

Muggy here.

Called City Water Dept. New filter was installed on Friday. Still tastes like dirt!

We usually drink the water from our refrig door that has a filter on it. But that filter needs changed and the bf has been putting off buying a new one for some reason? But we do us the water from the tap a lot too, which has no type of filter on it. I had mentioned getting a filter for it when we first moved in but the bf didn't see any need for it since the refri had a filter on it that we could get good cold water from. And since then we changed the sink faucet to one that has a sprayer on the end of it, so I don't know how a filter would work with the new one any ways. I just had the bf pick up more bottled water as we haven't been able to hear any news on TV or internet about the boil order being called off yet like I was hoping.

I hadn't heard any thing about a state wide problem with the water either.

I had the crowns put in two yrs ago from one dentist, paid thousands out of my own pocket for all the work as the cheap ins that I had then basically only covered my check up/cleaning and ex-rays. They said I had to see their specialist in their ofc for my dental work for some reason and specialist were not covered, so the ins didn't want to cover any of the work. I had just got laid off before going to them too. I hadn't been to a dentist since as the ins I had at that time decided before it was time for my next check up that they didn't want to do business in California any more. So I lost my dental ins, and had spent most of my life savings on dental work and car repairs shortly after being laid off. But this yr I got new ins from being unemployed and low income and that ins wanted me to go to a dentist last June. But I had to pick a new dentist from their list. The new dentist said that all the work that the other dentist did looked really good, especially the bridge that he put in my back lower right side. I didn't mention to either dentist that I am getting food stuck in between two of the crowns on the left side. I have just been putting up with it. But my new ins wouldn't cover any thing to do with it any ways. They will only cover very little, and mostly to do with my front teeth for some reason? So I will just put up with it as I don't have the money to do any thing with it really any ways. Just kept having too many car repair bills each yr that I hardly have any money left now. I just ended up about a month ago putting 800 in my car and 800 in the truck shortly after that.

Well all my best to you all always.

JM: I get food stuck between two of my crowns, too! On the right side, tho. Dentist wants to put in a larger crown. $525 w/ insurance covering the rest. What is your dentist recommending?

BERRY: Don't watch many movies anymore. Mostly read.

DEB: Isn't the Lord of the Rings mostly sounds... hardly any conversation?

Our water still tastes like dirt. Heard it was a state-wide problem, and they are working on it. Our water filter isn't working that great, either. DH finally went to the store to get bottled water. He had to go to two different stores, first one was out. :-( Need to be cooking up chicken stock and veggie stock. I asked him if he wanted them to taste like dirt. Guess we are going water shopping soon.

Personally, I would NOT recommend this movie for the younger set. -- Without a point of reference, I would think that a younger child would really miss what is being presented. Plus, even though it is PG-13, as a parent I would want to provide the "parental guidance"!

Teaching can be done in so many ways. IMO it is one of the very most important things a PARENT does! -- I commended a mom today at the grocery store with 3 or 4 kiddos in tow. She was teaching her kids as she verbally encouraged them to pay attention to people around them, and to make sure they weren't wandering aimlessly into someone's "space".

Thanks, I haven't seen it. The bf's son is 9 yrs old, so we watch a lot of cartoon and family stuff. Or sports for the bf. But some times we will watch some pg 13 movies with him if it is something that we think is a good movie, or if the bf really wants to watch it. Most of the time though the bf tapes stuff from the tv and then we will watch it first to check it out before deciding to let the kid see it with us again. Once in a while we go to the movies, especially if the company that the bf works for did some 3D work on the movie. They worked on Alice in Wonderland, the smurfs, shrek, iron man, transformers and lots of others.

Just wondering if anyone sees movies on a regular basis?? -- Since I have teens at my house, there are occasional movies that come up for watching all together.

Tonight we watched "Divergent" (PG-13; March, 2014).
-- As a teacher by "trade," I could see all sorts of room for discussion or a paper to write and consider viewpoints presented, psychology of "being human" and best ways to guide or "help" society.
-- I recommend it as worth seeing.

Sorry to hear you and your hubby are not well. The bf's son is fight a cold too and since he has been here on and off I started sneezing a lot on and off like I might also be coming down with his cold or allergy problems. Luckily it hasn't amounted to much for me, so maybe I will get to by pass his cold this time.

I eat salads a lot, but some times the pieces of carrots, celery and such get stuck between two of my crowns and get trapped underneath them on my left side of my mouth. And trying to get it out with my tooth brush doesn't always work. And getting it out with floss can some times hurt just as much as the food stuck in there. So some times I eat the salad on the right side to avoid it. But with the right side messed up from the infection I didn't want to do that. So blending the food all up sounded like a great idea. Made my own version of a green smoothie, it was good and a lot cheaper than the store bought ones. And healthy too. I am back to eating solid foods now. But will make one again if it starts bothering me again, or I want some thing good and fast to eat/drink.

All my best to you all always.

JM: Glad you are finding something that works.

I actually ate a salad today w/ soft veggies. Also making my Veggie Soup.

Not feeling well. DH didn't go to work today, b/c he's not feeling well. Think it is a cold. So, we are both just 'hanging'.

So sorry to hear it. Sounds like time for soft foods and liquids, then no real chewing. I threw veggies and fruit with a little pineapple juice in my "Bullet" blender when my mouth was really hurting from this infection. No real chewing and tasted pretty good and was healthy for me too. Oatmeal has also been really good for it, and yogurt.

All my best to you all always.

Had a 'deep root' cleaning dentist appt yesterday. Left me with less chance of losing my teeth, but also sore gums, sore jaw and exhaustion. Wasn't fun. So, now, here I am, a person who eats mostly veggies, wondering what I CAN eat. And, because of the tiredness, don't rightly care WHAT I eat.

Oh, and my tastebuds aren't back to normal, either! LOL So, what I think may taste good...doesn't. And, vice versa. Geesh!

My eyes are burning and I'm having congestion problems. Probably has to do with the nasty fires down south.

Thanks Ladies. All my best to you all always. The antibiotics seem to be bothering me, so taking another medicine to try to help with that problem. But my mouth luckily seems to be healing nicely so far.

JMAHNKEN,

thanks for the info.

My weekend was fun filled. Friday we just got home & crashed at home, yapping and telling stories. Saturday we went to the National Museum, then to the Mamba Village (Mamba = crocodile in Kiswahili) to see the crocs there and then late lunch at Galleria Mall at the KFC. Yep we do have those ones now.

Have been to the gym twice this week. Finally just booked my appointment for Monday. But also want to go to another Doctor for a second opinion.

Windy today, and warm. Went for a walk (see August Challenge) and got blown around!

Our newly adopted cat is coming along nicely. She actually poked her nose outdoor. :-)

How is everyone else doing?

Monday? It's Monday already?? Where did the weekend go??

BIL'S dad just passed away. We knew him some. Rather sad. Had a major heart attack, put on life support. BIL and family drove 2 days to reach him in time. Major stressing. Ended up BIL and family were able to 'talk' to him. Felt like DH and I were in waiting mode. Waiting for him to die. They finally decided to take him of life support. Funeral is Sat in a different state. Trying to figure out how to get a sympathy card up there.

It's interesting to note how grief can wear on a person. DH and I are both tired.

Gotta go to dentist on Weds. NOT looking forward to it. Something about Deep Root Cleaning. Sounds painful.

Well the spot keep trying to fill back up with blood and pressure little by little each day so that every time I tried to clean the area it would bleed. So I decided to go a head and start the antibiotic tonight to try to get it completely healed.

All my best to you all always.

Suzanne was the blonde driving the little sports car that the one guy was crushing on and trying to catch up to in the movie.

DEB: I googled up American Graffitti. Yikes! Those actors were too hyper for me. Made me feel hyper!
