Good morning every one,

am feeling really like run over by a truck.... WE had a really nice dinner with friends. I had about 2 glasses of wine (don't drink alcohol much at all these days, wasn't feeling even tipsy, but this morning I feel terrible. But I think I also have a cold coming, since my sinuses are really stuffy.

Well have to get myself through 4 more hours of work and then am to attend a pre-wedding, one of those traditional ceremonies here, where the women of the grooms family of to visit the women of the brides family.
Yep Njeri is getting married in 3 weeks. The beautiful intelligent daughter of good friends, who introduces me to colleagues as family. She is a doctor and about to finish her post graduate as a pediatrician.

So I know I will have fun and by the time the party starts I hope the antihistamines I just took will be working full time....

Doggy walks count. One of my sparkfriends here in Kenya (we met on SP) lost most of her weight with walking! When I used to not have to work Saturdays we used to walk together a lot. But now I work every Saturday and I only get 30 minute lunchtime walks in once in a while.
But I do go to the gym and try to be on the golf course every Sunday.

BF & I met through work 18 years ago, we were casuals friends having a lunch or coffee once in a blue moon, then we didn't meet for 5 years, then he called me up for dinner with his friends and the rest is history... Here we are 3 years later.

I met my bf in high school, we were in JR ROTC Class together. But we were both dating other people back then. So back then we would just say "hi" to each other in passing or talk about the class. We found each other again Online in 09. When we met I was doing a lot of walking of my dog along with my brother and his wife and their three dogs. We both did a lot of walking with our jobs back then too, but that was about it. His young son spends more time watching TV, playing on the computer, iPad, or the Wii then playing physically active games. We just got him into after school activities the last few yrs. But I am the only one that wants to try to get regular exercise or eat healthy.

My DH and I met playing volleyball--back in our 20's. We say that we met "on opposite sides of a net"

But I haven't really played team sports since I had kids (21 yrs ago). -- I'm the only one in my family that even tries to get regular exercise. No one else is interested or claims to have the time.

DH is a golfer & has a great time with golf buddies, during the summer. They try all the diff courses in the area. emoticon

Me & sports don't go together to well. My daughter picked up my rare talents, like that....we are the ones whom the basketball/volleyball/you-name-it would hit us in the head, during gym class. Yeppers.

I'm just glad that DH has something like that he enjoys. I like my doggy walks. emoticon

Thanks for the encouragement. I am not Tiger Woods Material, but I have fun & it burns an amazing amount of calories.

Today I have a few meetings, but am doing well so far. The big one is the last one, but I think I am prepared.

Debby,

he is cute & young and married..... Funny enough he is the one who initially taught me in a different club and now that I joined the club closest to my house he was shortly after employed there as 2nd pro.

Lesson was helpful, now I have to practice. Yesterday it rained early in the morning, so I did not go to the course. Later it dried up, but there was a competition going on, so I ended up to hit practice balls (those light ones with holes, that don't fly far) in my back yard.

I enjoyed the rest. Then also we have a shorter week this week. Looking forward to that.

Hope everyone else had a good weekend as well.

Have a great time off Steph!

The boy has another football game this Saturday morning. But he will be with his mom that day, so she will be taking him and staying for the game. And his dad supposedly has to work that day. So I am not sure if I will go or not? At least it is suppose to be a lot cooler Saturday morning. So if I do decide to go at least it won't be so bad as it has been sitting in 90-100 hot weather with no shade for previous games. Saturday it is suppose to be about 75-80 between the city where we live, the city where his mom lives, and the city that the game is going to be played at. Which also just happens to be the same city and really close to where the dad works, and is about 30 mins or more away from us depending on the traffic.

Well all my best to you all always.

Sorry I just put weight on when my TOM stopped. But I had also cut back on exercising when I put the most weight on. And now with doing this for over a yr way after my TOM stopped yrs ago, I am still bouncing up and down in weight. But luckily for the most part I am slowly but surely going down.

Good morning,

nice & sunny day here.
Am back to having mild hot flashes and then TOM is very mild. Hmmm wonder what that means. What upsets me is the strong flow at night (hadn't had that since I was a teenager), back to putting towels and such in my bed....
Went to the Doctor yesterday for refill on drugs and have her look at my swollen index finger joint. She thinks it is still not to be worried about and put me on anti-inflamatory. I asked her about my weight gain. She says she also thinks I should only have a few more months on perimenopause and then my weight should stabilize. She says many loose a bit again once they are in menopause proper.
Any experience from any of you on that?

Sounds just like the kids I used to take care of in the boarding house. But funny enough, by being honest to them and earning their respect (not sure how, but I did...) I had much less problems with them than the other Carers had.
Janette, I think you are on the way of earning his respect as well. See how he gave you less problems than yesterday. My approach with Teenagers has always been to explain to them a lot of my instructions and it seemed to have worked. so let's pray that it works for you as well, before he wears out your patience..... emoticon emoticon

Off course I had the advantage that I was doing 1 weekend a month in the boarding house, so I didn't have them all the time, but then it was on top of my normal work, so I had done my normal hours by the time I would come for my 48 hr stint in the boarding house.

LOL Debby. That is kind of what I use to do. But since I found out that he was complaining so much to his parents, and then even started to make comments about me at school too I am trying to be more open to him. But I tell you, some times I still just want to tell him to be quiet and let me drive! Especially when he is trying to tell me to make illegal turns or what ever like that. He just whines so much and constantly changes his mind too, I really feel that he is just testing us all. Seeing what he can get away with. Luckily he has to go to his new counseling tonight! And I hoping that it can help him with his behavior problems. And hoping down the line we will get into family counseling too, so we can all learn some better ways to deal with each other.

Janette, my DD's all did that too. I just dropped them wherever I wanted and said "have a great day" and that was it. Kids! And once they were gone, I still worry about them! (I think that's why I have to color my hair)

Thanks Steph, great idea! I did say it was a fun walk, but that would have been better. I am trying to watch more what I say and how I say it. He was doing his back seat driver thing a lot the last few days as I drove him, but I just bit my tongue and tried hard not to let him pull me into an argument about it. Some times I tried to explain why what he was asking of me wasn't going to work. Like at first yesterday he was asking me to drop him off at the front of the school, and then at the last min he changed his mind and wanted to be dropped off at the back of the school. But he changed his mind too late for me to get over safely to make that turn, and so I just told him it was just too late to change his mind. But I did it in a nice tone, and just told him the other cars wouldn't let me cross over that many lanes that fast to go where he was asking. But that if he wanted to go that way the next day we could. I will try to compromise with him and even let him change his mind several times like he did that morning. But in the end safety is always going to win out over what ever he wants. And I just won't let him drag me into an argument if he isn't happy about it. Today's drive went well with out a lot of him changing his mind about where he wanted dropped off at.

That sounds great. Why don't you say something about it. Not "you were much nicer today than usual" (he might feel hit in the face), but more like "hey I enjoyed the walk today".

I think it is great that he walks with you at all! Seems that you are making progress at last in that regard. You will have an impact on him. Just keep at it.

Today is a really boring day in the office.

Thanks Steph! Sounds like you had a nice visit with your friend then. All my best to you always. We did have a good walk yesterday. Not like usual at all, usually he is not minding and walking in peoples yards, picking up sticks and hitting their fences or mail boxes, or other rude things. Yesterday he was doing really good.

I will be running a lot of errands this week and driving him around a lot, so I hope he behaves like this more instead of acting up being rude, or constant complaining, or such.

Janette

that sounds like a great walk!

I played a round of golf yesterday. Even though I felt like the biggest klutz on the course and got quite upset about myself at one point, I must have done something right, since I actually scored a personal best, which means I must have played a few holes well enough.

Then I had a quick lunch with BF and in the afternoon I went to visit Helga my friend with whom we were in Westgate during the terror attack. We had a great time chatting and didn't realize how time passed, we were together for almost 5 hours!

Now I am trying to get my mind on work, but somehow I am a bit scatterbrained today.

Yeah, we watched a good movie a while back about a family that bought a run down and closed zoo, and fixed it up and opened it up again. I was based on a real life story, but later I found a lot of the facts were changed around. So while it was still neat, it really changed how I felt about the whole thing later a pond learning more truth and controversy about it.

I went for a long walk today the the kid and the dogs and had fun taking some pictures a long the way. I even took some pictures of some of the old historic houses near by.

Watched a great movie Sat. night IMO. I always am interested in the story behind a person or song or book, etc. I guess I'm very much attracted to REAL people...someone not pretending to be something they aren't.

In years past, I enjoyed music by Rich Mullins. He died at age 41; some would say tragically.

I was so pleased to find a movie about his life called, "Ragamuffin". It came out in 2014. -- As I was studying more details today, it would seem, as is common, that there is obviously still a "story behind the story"...often depending on who is doing the telling.

Hmmm, I never thought about it maybe be from that too. I have always had problems with allergies, especially on my skin. I am allergic to so many things. And my skin is hyper sensitive. I welt up really easy. You can press a coin to my skin lightly and then my skin will welt up with the design of the coin and stay that way for a while. My siblings and neighborhood kids use to tease me terribly with that, running up and hitting me or pressing stuff to me to see what would happen. They didn't care that it would stay like that for at least 30 mins or more and itch and bug me the whole time. If I get lightly scratched or hit it will make a big old raised up red welt to where it will look like someone really beat me hard. I can't wear cheap jewelry because the nickel will bother me. Elastic always bugs me, but in the summer it is worse. Wool bothers me, some plastics, and rubber can bother me too especially in the summer. I am allergic to most grasses, bushes, trees, weeds, smoke, dust, dander, mold, mildew and lots more. They tested me years ago with a bunch of pricks of stuff on my back when I was about 27 or so. They give me Prednisone when I get the bronchitis really bad and can't get over it, and it is bothering my asthma where it is really hard for me to breath, and I am throwing up a lot with it trying to get it out so it makes it hard for me to eat and keep anything down. Luckily this case of bronchitis is just a nuance that is just causing mostly a dry hacking cough. Not much coming out and not bothering my breathing or any thing like that. But not sure what brought this case on either. Usually I get it from being around some one else that has it, but I don't know of any one else that has had it lately. So I was thinking it was from dusting with out wearing a mask, as I just got side tracked and started dusting with out putting one on. I was thinking maybe the hives was from stress, or maybe the dogs are getting into something that I am allergic to out in the yard, and then getting traces of that on our bedding? As they are always out playing in the yard when they can, and the pup digs, and gets into the plants, and then they both always climb all over all our beds, couch, and chairs.

We went to the son's football game today and then did a lot of errands, so got lots of walking in today.

Janette,

that could have to do with Hormone changes. In the last few years there have been several times where I used to get it just before TOM, worst for me was where elastic touches the skin. Then this year I have had a few times where it came out of the blue. Well I am so irregular now that I don't know where I am in the cycle anyway.....
If it persists see a Doctor, otherwise keep using Claritine. I used Prednisolone, since I have to be careful with other antihistamins, because of the asthma medication I take. But I used to take Claritine and it is a good drug.

We had so much fun yesterday at the Senior's Dinner, it was great! After dinner a few of us danced until we got tired. Unfortunately I got home after Midnight and then didn't sleep well, so I am VERY tired now, but have to be in the office for a few hours.

I also have it the worse when I am really stressed out from too much on my plate, or too many family, personal, and relationship issues going on all at the same time. So it seems when you need to be at your best to get through stuff instead that is when it is going to pop up the most and slow you down.

I am sure I am stressed out with my home life, and now add into it that I keep breaking out with strange hive or rash like things late at night this week. It happened Monday night just before bed and I took Bendryl to help it which it did. But it made me feel really tired and drugged out all night and the next day too. Then I think it started to come back slightly Wed night while I was asleep, at least it felt like it but I didn't get up to check or take any thing. Then in the early morning today around 3 am I felt it come back and went to the bathroom and sure enough there were red marks across my upper back. So this time I took a generic Claritin and went back to bed. I woke up several hrs later with no marks on my back, and luckily the medicine didn't make me feel bad either. It has to be hives/rash, because bug bites, spider bites, fleas, shingles and any thing like that doesn't come and go with just a few hrs in between. And I am still fighting off the tail end of bronchitis too. So doing big time sleep disturbance all this week, but still up and trying to get all my chores done, and hunt for a job, and what ever errands needs done, and any thing else I am suppose to be doing.

Well take care ladies.

Steph, you are probably right. When I have too much going on is when it's the worst.

I had never heard brain fog being a symptom of menopause. I guess I've been going through it for, oh....30 years. emoticon

OMG Janette! I do that all the time! Go into a room to do something and then forget what I went in there for! I blame it on menopause, or a brain fart

That sounds like my life too! Always seems like I am running to put out fires here and every where, and don't always get around to doing what I thought I was going to do, or needed to do for myself. And I get side tracked a lot too, lol. Go in one room for one thing and seem something else that needs taken care of and then forget about what I went in there for in the first place.

Well BF did go to the Doctor, so far everything is normal. But Doctor told him the same I said, he has to loose weight again. Stomach is blocking blood circulation when he is sitting and he is sitting a lot.

Well we will see how it goes, he is still waiting for the uric acid results. At least I am glad there is no hairline fatigue fracture or blood clod involved.

Having a busy day at the office, but not getting as much done as yesterday. Yeah I know it sounds like a contradiction, but I am being called away for input on other things

Sorry to hear it. It seems men tend to put things off like that a lot and don't do well with following dr's or good advice so well either.

Good Morning every one.

Funny thing is I never eat before I go to the gym in the morning. At 5:30am I don't feel like eating and am not hungry. I have a cup of tea and then have breakfast afterwards. Has worked fine for me for years.

Well seem to have gained another kg. What am I going to do? Nothing seems to be working right now. Have to rethink all.
BF after recovering from a back strain (got during golfing), has been having a swollen foot for a while. Had tried to send him to the Doctor before his trip last week. The long road trip made it worse. Now after yesterday's round of golf he was suffering so badly he could hardly walk. But when I went to pick the car to pick him at our friends door. I found he had already walked halfway to the car. Really upset me....
Well this morning we talked on the phone and he promised to go see a Doctor.

On Monday he had actually gone, then found there were too many people waiting so he left without being seen.

All my best to you all always.

I took the dogs to the vet today, and have to take one of them back tomorrow too. Some how there was a mix up and the pup didn't get her rabies shot and cert she needs that I wasn't aware of. The bf had a paper he didn't give me to show them about it, and they had a mistake about it in their records. But at least they are letting me come back tomorrow with the pup, and it isn't far from us.

Take care everyone. Janette

Hmmm, maybe it was something you ate not sitting well with you and the exercise. I have read that bananas and some other stuff and upset your stomach if ate too soon before exercising. I don't remember why they said it though. But I remember they said if you have it happen and you had ate a banana, then next time don't eat the banana before, but rather wait a certain amount of time before or after eating bananas before exercising. I think it might have been because of the type of sugar in it, but not sure any more if that was why they said it or not.

When I talked to D. in the evening, she was exhausted from the day traveling to Nairobi and sitting around Hospital waiting areas for hours and sounded a bit low. But Doctor seems happy with progress. She has put her on 2 more months of oral chemo. Apparently since the new tumor is clearly a metastasis of the old one and the same tissue they can not use iv again, she has had it twice already.
Now the Doctor also said she wants to avoid radiation, since this one is on her neck and too many sensitive things nearby. I think D. was set in her mind on iv chemo and is now feeling like not enough is being done.
Well in December they will check everything and do more scans to see if the tumor has shrunk and to check if any other has come up. Then the way forward will be discussed.

I went to the gym this morning and then was nauseous afterwards again. Last time I thought maybe I had overdone it with abs exercise, but this time I didn't do much. Wonder what this is about again. Hormones? Will observe and if it continues will go and have myself be checked

Thanks Ladies! I would rather the dogs sleep with the boy or in their own beds or their crate, but I am out numbered. If the boy is here I try to get them to go in his room as he wants them, but the pup won't stay in his room usually. My dog I can get her to stay in there usually or on any dog bed usually. But the pup has just been spoiled by the guys and gets to do pretty much what ever it wants or that they want. They won't put it in the crate at night, they did it a few nights and decided they didn't like hearing her whine and they let her out and they slept out in the living room with her during that time and after. But then they started sleeping back in their own beds on and off and calling her to come in with them. So now if I try to shut her out of the room, she just scratches at the door and whines. Or the guys will open the door and let her in. She seems really attached to me at night and has to sleep right next to me or on top of my legs and or feet. I tried making the dogs sleep in their dog beds in our room last night as the son wasn't with us and the bf didn't seem happy that I wasn't letting the pup up on the bed. Oh well. Take care ladies.

I don't allow our dogs in our bedroom either. But they pretty much have the run of the house although I try to keep them on the furniture, I know they are on the couch when I'm not here (when I get home there is a nice warm spot on it) Steph, good thoughts and prayers for D.
Janette, take care of yourself!

HI Janette,

what you are telling me is exactly why I wouldn't allow any pet in my bed or even the bedroom..... LOL.... But then people are different.

tonight I slept through until 5:30am. Had gone to bed early and since I had to wash clothes in the morning I didn't mind waking up that early.

D. has gone for her cancer review this morning. Am glad her Mum is with her. She will be told today whether she will continue with oral chemo or get iv as well.
Waiting to here from her

Wishing all of us a good start into the week

Thanks Steph! Still have a cough from the bronchitis. Usually it starts of slow and then hits hard. But this one had been different, just bothers me most in the morning and at night. And isn't really productive at all like usual, mostly a dry hacking cough. So during the day I am doing fine and up and about. But at night it keeps me awake or makes it hard to stay a sleep. But I am taking cold medicine with it now along with the expectorant hoping to kick it out. I think it might have been from lack of sleep lately and also from doing a bunch or dusting with out a dust mask recently. I am allergic to dust and a lot of other stuff. And recently forgot to put a dust mask on when I dusted some book shelves and such that I hadn't dusted for a while.

I have had a lot of problems with sleeping for yrs now since due to perimenopause and menopause too. But I am also a very light sleeper, so any little noise or movement can wake me. And the bf falls asleep in front of the TV a lot and then will come into the bedroom at all hours and it wakes me up no matter how quiet he tries to be. But also since we got the pup, that has caused problems as she seems to have bonded with me and wants to sleep right up against me or on me a lot. But then he jumps on and off the bed a lot too every time she hears some thing. So she wakes me up a lot and crowds me too. I get over heated a lot at night, or I will go back and forth from hot to cold, but I don't get the night sweats like I first got any more. Unless we are having one of those really hot and muggy nights. We have been getting around 100 a lot lately and it doesn't always cool down at night either.

We decided to move stuff around in our office and add some new pieces to it, so I got a lot of cleaning in there done to day, vacuumed all our carpet areas really good with a shop vac and did a lot of other stuff. And I made sure to wear a dust mask this time. Then we went to several stores looking for a new table to set a record turn table he bought me on and set my computer tower under. So I got a lot of walking in today too. My computer was unplugged all day though, so didn't get in here until later today.
Well all my best to you all always, I hope you are not coming down with a cold either.

Hi Janette,

looks like you might get some rest after all. Please take care of yourself.

I agree with this perimenopause thing, it changes everything. My stomach keeps looking bigger all the time. I manage to fall asleep, but wake up every night at least once. thank god it is not the waking up in sweat any more..... But still annoying and then I seem to crave sweets every time I wake up. Usually I get up briefly go to the bathroom and drink some water. At times I also go and eat or drink something sweet. but lately I have been able to resist the urge.

Looking forward to a weekend with my friend D. who has breast cancer. She was recovering well for several years, but recently she had realized she had a lump on her neck. Biopsy showed it was a cancerous lymphnode. For some reason the Doctor said she could not have more iv chemo. So this time she got oral chemo. She has finished the 1 month course and is due for her reviews next week.
Her Mum is visiting from the States, so I get to meet her Mum as well.

Right now I am feeling a bit under the weather, not sure if it is a cold coming or it is the interrupted sleep all week paying back. Hope it is not a cold, since I would hate to make her sick with it.

Well we will see how the day will go.

Woohoo, the boy has decided to spend the weekend with his mom instead of us and his parents agreed to it. So that means the house is going to be a lot calmer and quieter this weekend, so maybe I will get some more rest and get over this chest cold.

All my best to you all always. Janette

Sorry Steph, not sure what to tell you other than it does sound like you are going into menopause. My tom was all over the place like that too, and it messed with my weight. But even with it being done now, I still have problems with me weight. My weight has been bouncing back and forth too. Some times when I have done a lot of walking and working out and it should go down it goes up. And other times when I have ate too much fast food with the guys and even had junk food, and or ice cream and or candy and expected it to go up it went down? And now that I am not doing all of that hard work for my sister, it seems to be trying to creep back up again too. My belly fat or bloating seems like it got worse this yr than last yr and yet I weigh less than I did back then too? I guess I need to do a lot more core exercises to try to help with it. But right now I am still dealing with bronchitis and it seems to be getting worse that last few days, not better. So I am trying to take it easier for a few days and trying to take naps to catch up on sleep too. I am having a hard time getting to sleep. And since the bf has got back he is still on Canada time, so he is falling asleep early in front of TV and then comes into the bedroom in the middle of the night with the dogs and they wake me up. So I get up to go to the bathroom and then come back and the three of them have hogged the bed and blankets and then I can't get back to sleep. And every time I start to get back to sleep either the dogs of bf wake me up. And then the bf gets up early in the am to get ready for work way before he needs too, so that wakes me up again and keeps me up until after he leaves. Then I get back to bed for several hrs. We have the boy this weekend, so I know I am not going to get a lot of sleep with that. Oh well. Take care everyone.

Thanks JMAHNKEN,

I did feel better and by lunch time I was ok.

Now I weighed myself today and had been doing good all week, eating within the limit every day, most days lower range. Result: Gained 1kg....

I really need to figure out what to do. Last periods were very heavy and 2 days longer than usual, now haven't had periods for 7 weeks. Shouldn't that mean that the estrogen overload is going down?

I am so tired of being fat and not able to control things. Doctor's here have no advise. I am close to giving up. RA does not allow me to exercise more than I do.

yeah, we had been nice in the day and cool at night for a few days and now it is back to hot day and night. We are suppose to be around or above 100 again all this week and muggy. Not going to like that, especially with a chest cold. I liked it when it was cooler and I was drinking tea. Now I want to go back to ice water, but that is not good for my chest.

Hi Ladies!

How is everyone doing?

JM: May you get better very quickly! Colds are no fun.

It's hot here today. Having the Indian summer or whatever. Air is hot, not much of a breeze. Ugh!

Hi JMAHNKEN

get a nap in if you can.

My day got better yesterday. This morning I got up early to go to the gym, now I am in the office feeling nauseous and generally funny. Have eaten so it should not be from low sugar. I realized most of the exercise I did today worked the core. Maybe that has to do with it.

Well let's hope I feel better soon

Poor start to the day. A new project manager joined my team today. Yesterday evening the procurement guy who was supposed to have moved his desk (he had 4 day notice) had told me on the phone he had moved and then I found nothing was ready.
HR also had not prepared an orientation program. When I prepared one, she shouted at me at night on the phone.
Right now the GM also told me off, since apparently who sits where has changed, he thought it had been sorted out, but it had not. I also asked, why I hadn't been told that the seating arrangement was changed, then he shouted at me that I don't need to know he makes the decisions here.
Gosh what a morning. Ok, I don't really need to know where the procurement guy sits, but I was pushing the concerned people to move where they were supposed to go to according to the old plan and if it changed, then I was practically giving conflicting instructions.

Ok. calm down, take a breath and wait for the GM to be in a better mood. Then talk it out.
But what a crazy morning.

Thanks Steph, I know! I have been trying for 5 yrs, but seemed to fall on deaf ears. They don't seem to like my suggestions and take them as an insult to their parenting most of the time. And they also like to use the line that he is just a little kid, and or it is just a phase and he will grow out of it. But I kept trying to at least talk to the bf about it, and let him know that I didn't think that, and that I actually thought the longer they wait to get him in control the harder it is going to be. And the worse he is going to get and that it would also affect his school. And now my words are coming true. They all just like to think that I am too hard on the boy. But I see them both as trying to be the fun house, his friend a lot rather then the parents that he needs them to be. Afternoon and evening seems to be when they jack him up the most on it. And I know she does it too, because some times she drops him off to us just after dinner or just before bed and he is like wired, like the energizer bunny. But some times when he is suppose to eat he refuses to eat and they let him get away with. Like before the switch in the morning or after dinner time. So I also ask him if he ate and if so what he ate. Because I learned not to just take a "yes" answer from him as it could just mean that he just took a bite of something and that was it. And the something could have just even been candy or cookies. Dinner time is when the kid is allowed soda here and he almost always gets some sweet treat after dinner or with his dinner. So then he is all jacked up and doesn't want to go to bed! I noticed over these past few weeks that the bf has been gone that I have been going over there helping her with him that she seems to just let himself help himself to what ever he wants to eat and drink when she is not there. We don't ever leave him alone here, but she will leave him a lone for sort periods some times. But lately had me start to come there to watch him if she is going to be gone for several hrs. And we don't just let him help himself to any thing but water! As all he would drink is soda and sugary drinks, and all he would eat is junk. I always make him have some type of cereal in the morning at least, or his dad will make him bacon and toast or some thing else good like that. And we try to get him to eat some fruit and yogurt or cheese in the morning too. Lunch is usually some type of sandwich or left overs and chips. Maybe with some fruit. Snacks I try to get him to eat some fruit, or celery with peanut butter, or carrots first before I will let him have more chips. I will only let him have a couple of juice packs a day and then make him go to water in between.
I am hoping that this counseling that he is suppose to be getting into when the bf gets back is going to do some real good!

Well all my best to you all always.

JMAHNKEN,

lets hope that the involvement of school & county service will be the wake-up call the parents need. They are not doing themselves, or the kid or anyone else a favor.
This situation is - even though not unique - very serious.

Try talking to his Dad again. Cutting out soda pop & sugary things in the late afternoon & evening should bring quite some improvement. But trying to change this boy, now that he is this big is going to be DIFFICULT.

Wishing you the best.

Thanks Steph, his diet is really bad, they spoil him with junk food, candy, soda, juice, ice cream and shakes, and etc all the time. I have tried talking to them about it to no avail. The kid hardly ever eats veggies or salads. Only will eat certain fruits and has to be in the mood to get him to eat it. All he wants really is stuff like bacon, pop tarts, donuts, lunch meats, some types of cheese, some types of yogurt-kiddy types, chips, steak, fried chicken, BBQ ribs, hot wings, pizza, sushi, candy and ice cream really. And each year it seems they let him eat more and more candy and soda. A lot of the times when he is give fruits he might just eat a few bites and try to throw the rest away. They don't even make him save the apples, pears, or what ever and finish eating it the next time he is complaining he is hungry. As he will throw a fit that you are expecting him to finish eating it, especially with apples because they change color once they sit. I could see his diet playing a big role in it, but a lot of it is he is just really spoiled and they have let him get away with pretty much any thing. But the other part could be he could be bi-polar like his mom too? It is hard to know if he is just trying to manipulate us with the stuff he pulls or if it is for real. I have been pushing for counseling for him for yrs because of it. I think that might help us figure out how much is manipulation and what is real? But I think for the most part his parents just wanted to be in denial as much as possible. But now the school and county services has got involved so there are not going to be able to keep ignoring it.

Berry,

remember even Mt Everest is climbed 1 step at a time. Set small targets, like if you are able to maintain a certain speed on a treadmill over 5 minutes, make it a goal to maintain 10 minutes in 1 week from now. Or if you can lift a certain weight for 10 reps, then make it a goal to do 15 in 2 weeks from now.
Most of all chose exercise you enjoy. For example for me the "no-where bike" is just as boring as can be, and riding a bike in Kenya is dangerous because of the traffic. So I usually only go on the no-where bike to change things up and then don;t do more than 15-20min. max. Then I go to another cardio machine and do something else.

Hang in there, we all have fat to loose & muscle to gain..... LOL

JMAHNKEN.

also check into his diet, especially sugar intake. lowering that can help many kids that are acting up. Not eliminating, just limiting.

Debby
nice to hear from you.

I met w/ a personal trainer today to get a "baseline" of my current condition. It was NOT a pretty sight. She essentially told me, "You have 40-45 lbs of FAT to LOSE and 20#'s of muscle to gain."
Feels like I need to climb "Mt. Everest" to regain my health...and with baby steps, I will far exceed my lifetime to get there. SIGH...

Thanks Steph, he is going to have to go to forced counseling asap again per county services as he is acting up at school too. So his mom is looking for a cognitive program for him now, and medication as a last resort. And sounds like once we get him set up in that and it is going good then we can try family counseling too. The mom at least said she would like to do that with me and the child, and hopefully we can get his dad to agree to it too.

His dad is coming back home late Tuesday night, so hopefully we can start to get back to a more normal schedule soon.

I hope you are feeling better soon. All my best to you always. Janette

Hi Janette,

sounds like this is a much better way of dealing with that kid. Counselling sounds good too. Hang in there you are earning brownie points for this.... Hugs

For the first time since I have come back I feel like the travel related water retention is starting to resolve. I don't feel so bloaty and my joints don't feel so tense. Feet also look slightly better.

It seems to be taking longer & longer the older I get. Will continue sloshing myself with water and exercising. Am also eating lots of grapes and other foods said to reduce water retention.

Looking forward to the weekend

Hugs to all emoticon

I got to enjoy myself listening to music and reading a funny book in the truck this morning instead of being inside the ex's house with a rude kid. He was still rude when I went to the door to tell him it was time to go, but at least then I just turned around and went back to the truck and didn't have to put up with him any more. And as soon as I saw him heading to the school I got to come back home.

I think I just have to do it next Monday and Tuesday now, but not sure really how long I have to keep going over there?

Well take care everyone. Janette

The bf should be home the end of this month, so just a few more days. I just had a great talk with the kid's mom, she wasn't not happy with his behavior to me today either. So she is going to have a chat with him and let him know that it won't be tolerated. She said I could just come and sit in my truck tomorrow and listen to music or read a book and I don't even have to come inside. I can just knock on the door at 8:30 and tell him it is time to leave. That she is just more concerned that he will lose track of time playing and not leave for school on time, then him trying to maybe double back to the house or just wander off after I leave. So I think I just have a few more days of this. And the kid is going to get thrown into counseling asap too! Something that I have been thinking the kid needed since I met him, so woo hoo.
All my best to you all always. Janette

Hi ladies, I too am still trying to sort through stuff around the house and garage, and yes, it feels like it will never end. But then more and more stuff keeps getting piled up from the mail, the guys, and such too. And inheriting so much stuff from my parents and sister didn't help either.

And now the boy and his mom have me hopping all the time trying to watch the boy. And the boy is obviously not happy with the idea that I am the one watching him. He keeps telling me that he would rather just have me show up right at 8:30 am like an alarm to tell him to leave for school. But I have to come from another city at least 20 mins away, and with traffic some times it could take me more like 30 mins to an hr to get there. And I don't want to show up when he has left and be standing there ringing the door bell wondering if he has already left, or he is just ignoring me because he is having too much fun on the computer skyping and playing a game with a friend of his. And I don't want to be rushing in traffic and get in an accident. So I leave early so that I can try to get there around 8 am- 8:15 am, shortly after his mom has already left for her appt. So I just end up sitting with him for 15-30 mins before I make sure he leaves for school on time. Today, he tried to rush out the front door leaving me inside to figure out what to lock and not to lock. So I had to call him back and tell him it is his house, and his responsibility, that I am his guess and that he should guide me out and make sure to lock up behind us. He didn't like that and kept trying to make me responsible for it all, and then even tried to close a gate on me shutting me in his back yard and taking off with out me again! He can be so rude to me some times!
It is all just wearing me down! I am having problems sleeping at night, doing a lot of tossing and turning, or just can't shut my mind off. I can't wait for the bf to get back home and help out with all of this. Hopefully at the end of the month he will come back.
Well take care ladies,
Janette

Well my schedule keeps changing min by min. But looks like I get my nights to myself until the bf gets home. Supposedly he might be home on the 30th now. In the mornings I will go to Poway to make sure the boy goes to school. And tomorrow, since he only has a half day I will go meet him there after school too and sit with him for several hrs until his mom gets back. Take care everyone. Janette

Hi ladies! Thanks Steph! I have had some good days all to myself and the temps have cooled down a little too. I will have the boy all day and night tomorrow probably, as there is no school for him then. Then I will have him every night, and in the morning take him to school this week. His mom is suppose to take him after school, get his home work done, take him to football if he is going to go, and give him dinner before dropping him back off to me. So I might be busy, but will do my best to keep up with the team. All my best to you all always. Janette

It's been too hot here... will be glad when we leave the 90's behind. IMO no need for those temps!

I'm working through sore muscles everywhere after a boot camp class Sat. (1st time...not sure if I'll do that again!?!) -- I'm hoping if I keep moving around, the muscles will be less likely to lock up??! Instead of ST 3 days this week, I think I'll shoot for only 2.

Jmahnken,

enjoy the peaceful time while it lasts.

I had some wild days with my nephews, loving every bit of it and now am glad for some peace and quiet. Tomorrow final day of some shopping with Mum, then Tuesday I will fly back to Kenya. Am glad that I have another day of rest on Wednesday before work starts again

Glad you are having a good time and enjoying your visits with your family Steph.

I just got word that the bf has to stay in Canada until towards the end of the week. So that means more time with just his son and I.

Having a fun time at my sister's in Germany. Went swimming with her and the boys to a big thermal pool with several pools, water slides and other fun things yesterday. Today we want to go have ice cream and go for a walk.

Tomorrow we are driving back to Switzerland and I will spend another 2 days with Mum.

We also went to see my oldest brother on WEdnesday when we went to the Farmer's Market in the little town where he stays. Then my other brother came over in the evening, but he was sick with the fllu. Went to see him yesterday and went with him to go deliver beer & other things. He has a wholesale for drinks and also hires out all the benches tables and stuff you need for parties. With the beer festivals going on he is very busy.
