I just use The Weather Channel through Yahoo mostly and it is just showing showers starting tomorrow morning going for an hour or so and then breaking and then going for another hr or so. And then breaking for several hours and then going for several hours. And gone by the next morning. Doesn't say any thing about thunderstorms, so maybe it is just going to be sprinkling on and off with some heavy rain thrown in during the evening when it is suppose to be going the longest?

Interesting.

"they" always say, 'chance of thunderstorms'. My DH loves thunderstorms. I try to hide under the bed with one of my cats. The other cat hangs out with DH watching the storms. LOL

I just checked again and now they are saying we have 60% in day and 50% at night tomorrow, but then 0 % the next two days and then a slight chance after that. So probably just a fast moving small storm coming in. Take care.

Same here, too! Up to 76 degrees in the house... and I'm trying to do a bunch of cooking. Ugh!

Hope it rains soon here. Sure need it. Amazing how the weeds endure.

Well my friend got into a 4 car pile up on the way to met me for our meeting for the job. But I still got to met with all her associates and learn more about the job. And they want me, so now it is just a matter of setting up a class and test to get my Life Ins License. If I get that, then I am set to work for them. If I don't pass then I have to try to take the test again before I can work with them. So now I am just waiting for another meeting some time next week to discuss getting signed up for the class and test.

The boyfriend's son just turned 10 and is really spoiled, and so are most of his friend's that are in the richer neighborhood that his mom lives in. His parents bought the house because it was close to one of the better performing school districts in the city. The boy just got his own cell phone for his birthday that is newer and better than mine and supposedly most of his friends have their own cell phones too. Most also have their own iPads, computers, iPods, laptops, DS, and etc, etc.

It is totally different from when I was growing up. I didn't get my own computer until 2005 and cell phone until 2006.

I appreciate your taking the time to provide a solid idea/suggestion. -- I will also be setting distinct boundaries of what I will and will not accept from her in terms of attitude while I coach her driving. If she can't work with those guidelines, then she will have to find someone else to tolerate her behavior, or wait until she's 18. In this situation, driving is a privilege and NOT a right.

Hi JM,
that is great news. Wish you best of luck.

I have been jobless depending on friends for help three times in my live. Not funny!!!

Berry,
maybe a bit of shock therapy can help. D & I are taking care of an orphaned girl together. she is in Boarding school (that is normal here), and so we only have her during the holidays. She is not even a teen yet and was starting to get into these moods and complaints and all is wrong. Her Uncle took her upcountry to see her relatives and the place where she started out. Now her Mum is / was (no one knows if she is alive) a prostitute who left her with distant relatives a few weeks after she was born and she started her life in a manyatta. that is a local temporary hut like the Masai build them. No water, no electricity but lots of flies.... When she was 2 years old a good friend of ours who is also related to her, adopted her. This friend of ours unfortunately died last year.

So the Uncle showed her were she was born and how she lived for the first 2 years and asked her to compare and to say whether she wants to get back to this. Then he told her if she upsets D & myself and we can't handle her, this is where she will get back to. She said she does not want to get back there.
When she came back she suddenly was smiling all the time, friendly helpful and would do chores without being asked. amazing!

We had done something similar with other children in Germany, by taking them to meet people in social housing schemes to see how people lived there.
The perspective changed and they realized life at home was not so bad.

My Babysister, who grew up spoiled since we were all out of the house by then. When she came to Kenya and we took her to the village where I was married, it also changed her. She saw how the children there were happy with nothing and made toys out of garbage. It actually changed her lookout on life completely for ever.

Anyway I hope you find something that works with DD

Been wondering if I will survive the rest of DD's teen years. It has NOT been fun at our house. Everything I do or say is "WRONG".
emoticon
As to work possibilities, there was an article in 2 different newspapers about a lack of substitute teachers in our whole county. I happen to have a lifetime substitute teacher's license for our State. -- If I want, once DD has her driver's license and can be her own taxi, I could start back to teaching in the Fall of 2015. However, I'm wondering if this "older teacher" can manage to handle today's young person for whom all of his/her life is lived electronically! (ie. "What's a book!?!?!?")

Thanks so much! I took a lot of time off at first to get dental work done and car repairs, and to watch the kid. But I have been looking since around 2013, and just wasn't finding anything. And I felt like my mind was going to mush just sitting around here. My boyfriend isn't so supportive or understanding of me either, lol. All my best to you too.

Hi Janette!

Good for you! I had been out of work since May of 2012! It feels really good to be back in the work force again. My job is per diem so it is nice to slowly ease back into it! My DH doesn't totally understand my need to build my confidence up and see if I can really do this. You got my thoughts hit right on! I ended up doing terrific on my online tests and orientation, and they like my work. All the best to you in this new endeavor!!

Great news Steph!

I have a dr appt tomorrow, first in a several months. Then tomorrow night I am having dinner with an old work acquaintance to learn more about the company she works for in the financial business. She has invited me to an open house at the company she works for to see if I would like to go into that line of work with her. So I might be going into the life ins and other financial business with her. I know her from my last job, my old boss went into business with her company on the side of her tax practice. So I will get to hobnob with my old boss and a lot of old friends that I met through these two ladies. So excited about that. It won't be a 9 to 5 type job with steady paycheck. But it would be some thing to do in my spare time at first while I am learning the ropes, and probably looking for part time job to go with it. But it would get me back out in the work force. Help me to build my confidence back up, and look good on a resume instead of showing that I have done basically nothing since April of 2012. I will have to study and pass a test to get and keep a new type of license before I can make any money at it. But I will have a great team of people I already know pulling for me and trying to help me along the way.

Spend a nice evening & dinner with BF & D. D has come to Nairobi for her review, which is this morning. The CT scan did not show any other affected lymph nodes and the affected one seems to have been excised completely. So hopefully she will be through with the chemo for now.
Am so happy for her

Thanks! I use to get them from the store growing up. Then my brother had a big tree and we would get some from it. But since I moved and don't go down that way for work any more I haven't got any from him any more. So now I am back to getting them from the store when I want them. I did print out some thing from the internet to go by last time I tried. But I think when I moved them out side it might have been too soon, and not enough protection from the hot summer heat or the cold.

Hi everyone,

wishing all of us a good start into the week.

Saladme
thanks for the sweet words.

JM,
I know what you are talking about in regards to the avocado tree.... Have experienced it as well before. But have also successfully transplanted. Well this one, it took forever for the pip to sprout, then I put it in a small pot first, later in bigger ones. Now it had reached my height, so I had to plant it, since it was getting to big to carry upcountry in my car.
Try putting it outside in a pot, first in a protected area, then moving it slowly into more exposed parts of your yard, until it is fully exposed to the elements.

We will see how this one will do.

When I posted some pictures on FB, some friend thought it helpful o post an article on how to raise trees from the pip, but also long comments about how some trees do not get fruits, some take years to get fruits (hey I thought that is normal for every tree....) and that the fruits will not be like for a grafted tree. Well who would have thought that.... LOL. Of course not, for me it was more about the fun and knowing you raised if from the pip. At the same time I have raised trees before successfully, when I lived on the mission station and the next tree nursery with grafted seedlings was about 2 days drive away.
In such a situation who cares whether the avocado have the perfect taste & shape or not....

I know it seems like forever since I have posted here. I even had to reset my password since I forgot it. The symptoms of perimenopause have slowed down some (without my doing anything different) WELL, with the exception of skin changes because of night sweats/hot flashes. There is a Health A-Z under articles & videos that describes this skin change: Tinea Versicolor. I have to be continuous in the treatment process, which can be hard for me, but I realize I have to do it. I hope that after treatment I will be better on the other side.

The good news is I was successful in finding a new job so I am back in the working world. It is a per diem position and the hours are slow right now. So I am able to work my way back to a part time position, which is my goal. It is a job in a health field which I enjoy without the more physical aspects of some health jobs. I tell my clients that maybe it will be a wake up call for me to continue to choose healthy options for myself as I show others the benefits for them to be healthy emoticon

Well, that sums it up for me. Glad to see you all, old and new members of this team!

Elisa: Thanks for your recent link about hot flashes- I read it a couple days ago.
Steph: Sorry you are going through alot of RA pain right now. I can't imagine what that must be like in addition to the "change" emoticon

As always,
'Salad4me1'

All my best to you both and the whole team. I have tried to grow my own avocado trees before and I can get them started but I have trouble keeping them going once I transplant them outside. Seems we always get extreme heat or cold, or back or forth soon after putting them out side and then sooner or later they die. I think if I try it again, I might try to keep them in the house until they are stronger and bigger.

Thanks everyone.

I also hope we find a better solution. I just wish I could have my old body back. This one doesn't feel right....

Anyway the good news is! The weekend is almost here. We work Saturdays and I have 3 hours left, then I can relax.

Tomorrow I am traveling upcountry with my avocado tree. Yep I raised one from a seed myself and in the last few weeks it has grown too fast. So it needs to be planted. Since my own plot is not ready for planting I will plant it on my friends compound. Their home is my home away from home anyway.

Looking forward to a fun experience

HI everyone,

I am doing so well with diet & exercise and the weight is still staying put..... Well the only small progress is that the hanging cheeks & the double chin do look smaller.....

The RA flare-up continues, the meds do contain the pain a bit, so I can exercise. Am very careful not to overdo it and do not do anything that puts strain on my wrists. The trainer in the gym spend time to prepare a special workout for me, really appreciate it.

Problem is also the exhaustion and low grade fever that come every afternoon with a flare up. I can hardly function in the office. Try to do all difficult stuff in the morning.

Thank you for your advice and replies. I have eliminated soy from my diet ever since I heard how bad it is for your Thyroid. I have Hypothyroidism, so I avoid it.

Hey STEPH: I was gonna say to SOULFLOWER to now examine what she is eating. I eliminated soy. (It's in just about everything), and I've been having less hot flashes, etc.

Nice day here today. Sunny, yet cool, a bit breezy.

Trying to get a bit of yard work done. I am sooooo out of shape. Ugh!

Soulflower

that is great news. But don't be surprised if they come back. I had them really bad the first year, then they eased off (I was taking Soy tablets), then I was fine for most of the time and now in year 5 they have come back big time, mainly at night. Really makes it difficult to get sleep. Also, living in the southern hemisphere (I live in Kenya, East Africa), we have hot season now and nights are not exactly cool anyway. So getting hot flushes makes it even more uncomfortable.

Hello Ladies,

I'm glad my hot flashes have eased off, I was having them pretty bad. Lots throughout the day, seemed like anything would set one off. At night, caused me to suffer from sleep deprivation. I've been taking these Adrenal supplements, Thyroid supplements, and multivitamins... and I believe it has helped me with some of the perimenopause symptoms like hot flashes. I still get them but not as many. My mood is a bit better, sleep is improving, and I don't have bad anxiety like I did before taking these. What a relief!

JM,

don't fret about that now. Cross that bridge when you get there....

Busy in the office and lots of emotional up and down. Partly because of hormones, partly because of things happening that trigger memories. Need to focus & think things through before I react.

BERRY: Oh, I sympathize! Teaching our kids how to drive fell on me, and I am not a good passenger.

It is raining cats & dogs, here. Good news is that it's warm. At least, I was able to take the dog out a few times before it started pouring. Thank goodness for exercise rooms, plus, I got some heavy cleaning done. That counts for something, anyway.

Hi everyone,

Elisadenk,
I wish we would have such home delivery services here... Often do not have the time to go shopping and end up with no fruits in the house.

By the time I leave the office often the green grocers & markets are closed and at the kiosks the things are expensive & not so fresh.

Berry,
I can imagine how difficult it is to teach someone how to drive. My exhusband had gone through driving school, then I ended up teaching him again and that in Nairobi traffic.

Driving schools here have no standards, so training is ridiculous. Also you can do truck license without having a small car license.

Having a busy day at work and it is hot here. Right now it is in the upper 80s and steamy might rain later.

Today was definitely a mix of things for me...
-- I'm having to teach young person #3 how to drive. Today was the second hour of time spent on the road. She is very sensitive and afraid. (But today was better than yesterday!!)

But we forgot to check about the parking brake and drove w/ it on. Not good for that! Smelled really strong rubber when we got home. We are hoping there won't be consequences of my goof. -- This isn't my normal car to drive; my son away at college uses it when he's home. DD needs to drive an automatic & mine is not. -- Then DH chastised her for not checking everything.
If one has not driven before, how would one know what all needs to be checked!?!?!

Thanks JM!

Last week went by rather quickly.

Looking forward to this new week. Gonna get my CSA box of fruit and veggies on Weds. That's always a treat. Pay for them online.

This weekend was a bummer of sorts. Ended up having an 'episode', having to stay close to the bathroom and not feeling well. Now, DH isn't feeling too good.

Is there a stomach bug going around?

I was able to get out and about yesterday morning before the 'episode' hit. Went to the library and picked up some books on hold. One is the Dummies book about anti-inflammatory diets. I'm doing most of it, just fine tuning.

I also got to the health food store and picked up some liquid vit/min for DH. He has a hard time swallowing pills/supplements. If you want to know how THAT turned out, ask. LOL

Take care, my Ladies!

Hi Everyone,

weekend is here. Just finished my Team Meeting. Now I am just fiddling around the office for a bit, then I am going to head out for fun!

SMITIM,
hang in there you will do it. Check last years successes and build on them. If you have done it once you can do it again, no matter how often you fall.
