So sorry Steph! I still have a bit of my cold lingering too, but I went to my work meeting last night anyways and it was a good one to go to as we got to do some rule playing which I need to help bring up my confidence to move forward with this job. I have another meeting tonight too, and then will probably go to a Sat morning meeting at one of the offices too. Then next week I start my all day class for a whole week down in San Diego. So I am trying to move forward. All my best to you all always. Janette

Hi everyone,

am feeling low, hormones are raging and things at work are not moving. Also don't feel like I can discuss things with BF since he seems to always want to belittle my issues. Told him now that I don't want to see him for now.
When I do try to discuss with him I end up being hurt.
Am having this underlying cold, but with all the meds I am already taking I don't want to take anything more. Hope it gets better soon. Sinuses were clogged up yesterday and this morning I forgot the infrared treatment, which usually helps a lot, so now it is clogging up again.
I need a break. Have also gained another kg and am just not a happy camper

Windy yet warm here today.

Have made an appointment to get my eyes checked. Time for a new prescription. Everything is too blurry.

Glad to hear you are getting better Janette.

I had a great weekend.
On Saturday afternoon BF & I went to the launch of a short biography of Makhan Singh, a Freedom Fighter both in Kenya & India. The Kenyan History Books usually forget about him, since he is Indian Kenyan and not black Kenyan.

This launch was done together with a very interesting documentary about the 600 year history of Khojas. These are 3 different Indian Muslim Groups which have the same origins and when life was too difficult they migrated to East Africa (different countries), when they had to leave some of the countries again during the independence struggles they migrated into the Western World and established themselves. Where ever they go they get deeply involved in the local communities and do lots of charity work. So different from the violent Islam we see from IS and Al Shabab.

The reason these 2 things were launched together, is that both were done in collaboration with the Asian African Heritage Trust.

Both was highly interesting.
On Sunday we went to Crescent Island in Lake Naivasha, a beautiful nature reserve. It is situated on the remaining part of a volcano crater rim, which remained above water. Lots of wild animals and you can go for walks between them.
I went for a 1 hr walk while BF did some insurance business with Linda the owner. Then we drove around the lake leisurely. The North Lake road, which is a dirt road is in a poor state and so sandy (the fine volcanic Ash Sand typical for the area), that is was like doing the old Safari Rally.

We got home, dusty, tired and sun kissed. I loved it.

Good news is:
My keyboard is fully working again. They way it is hot around here (dry heat) and the way my laptop heats up it could not just have been liquid. Also we had blown the keyboard out with the blower, which is stronger than your normal low drier.
I had never used this particular cleaner before, but it is what we use for the cameras here. So I tried it. Anyway what I think happened was that the cleaner must have formed a film over the key contacts inside and this has worn off through me trying to use it. Now only the B hangs at times, and that is because one of the clips got damaged, when the workshop guy removed it, so it is a bit lobsided. I hear we have a similar laptop in the store which is no longer working. I will ask permission to check if the keys are the same size and will take the key from there if it fits.

Am so glad it is weekend. Only 5 hours work today. Yesterday evening we went to the Sikh Golfing Society Dinner and had good fun. Today not sure yet of what I will do, but tomorrow we are going out of town. Poli is going to see a client, who owns a wildlife reserve on Lake Naivasha called the Crescent Island. I hope we will enjoy a bit of a walk on it. Lots of Fish Eagle, lots of Waterbuck, Gazelles, Buffalo (the main danger there). It is amazing to walk on it. It actually is part of the rim of a sunken Vulcano, so the Island is really crescent shape. Need to get my camera charged.....

I don't mind cloudy and love foggy. Especially when it is 'misting'. LOVE to go for walks in the mist. Keeps my hair and skin healthy.

However, end up with problems with mustiness and molds.

Thanks! This cold is bothering my stomach more than usual so it is making me think it might have been the flu rather than just an allergic reaction or a cold bug. The sinus and chest part don't seem that bad to me really. It's the stomach cramping and knotting bugging me the most. But each day I think I am getting better and better.

I, too, scoffed at the idea of putting vapo-rub on the bottom of feet. Desperate times bring desperate measures, tho. I finally tried it, when I just couldn't shake the horrible cough. Covering with socks is a must. It really did help to calm the cough down. Our next step is that we got a vaporizer & set it up in our LR. That helped, too.

DH has the same issue with sneezing fits over any type of fragrance. I feel your pain, with that one. It can be frustrating, for sure. emoticon

Thanks Steph, I too have very sensitive skin. Plus if stuff is really strong of taste or smell it can some times bother my allergies and I can have sneezing fits just from that. Like I don't like really strong tasting and smelling breath mints as they will send me into a sneezing fit. Even strong cough drops can do that to me. They seem to get stronger the closer they are almost gone too I have noticed, that seems to be when the sneezing fits start the most is just before the cough drop or breath mint is gone. I guess when I hit that center core of them it is stronger in there?

Here is some info warning about putting vick's on kid's feet. Yet, I have read several times on several different sites that they say that putting it on your feet and then covering your feet with thick socks is suppose to quiet coughs in minutes and keep the gone for hours, and hours, and also supposedly help break fevers?

But I have never done it, and I don't think my parents ever did it.

Steph, maybe taking a can of that air spray that you use to get dust out of computers and keyboards will help dry out the keyboard, or maybe a hair dryer set on the low setting?

All my best to you all always. Janette

I agree that menthol stuff is too strong to rub under the nose.... Used to get sore skin from it.
but I still rub it on my chest. I believe the feet are too far..... LOL (just kidding, had never heard about rubbing it on feet before.

Hot day in the office (temperature, not tempers...), then I foolishly sprayed the cleaner on my keyboard when cleaning the laptop instead of on the cloth and suffered for it.
My keyboard went bonkers. The external one we had spare was not working, and I had a deadline to meet. I borrowed some ones laptop, but it only connected to the LAN, which has a serious problem and is too slow to open the relevant websites. So the whole morning I struggled doing nothing productive while answering office emails on the smart phone. In the afternoon I finally got the on-screen keyboard going and managed to meet my deadline. Once I had send the documents off my key bard started working 90% again..... aaaarrrgggh. Well I am happy that my key board is getting better and better. Right now basically only the "b" is misbehaving.
Maybe by tomorrow I am back to normal.

The marvels of High-tech IT.....

I have heard of the menthol rub on the feet before but never had it put on my feet that I remember. My mom was really big about smothering our fronts and backs with it when ever we were sick and rubbing it under or just inside the nose too. I hated that stuff, lol. I don't use it now, but probably should. I use the Vick's Vapo machine some times that you put a little strip in and then plug it into an outlet and it puts the Vick's Vapo smell in the room. I take a vitamin/mineral pill and Vit D every day. I also added more Vit C and zinc now. I am drinking different herbal teas with lemon and honey, I have Gypsy Cold Care, Breath Easy, and Throat Care, or peppermint tea with lemon and honey. I am taking an expectorant to help break up and get up or dry up the stuff in my chest. I am doing salt water rinses with a little Listerine added to flush out the sinus and throat. I also started spraying my throat with a mixture of Listerine and Hydrogen Peroxide after reading about using the HP in a team for natural remedies. My sinus is a lot better tonight, and I think my chest is getting better too. But the boyfriend just came home from work complaining about his throat and congestion in the chest, so I guess it is going to make it's round through our house too. The boy is at his mom's Tonight and tomorrow, and I think this weekend too. So maybe he will miss it?

I agree with Elisa's recommendations! I absolutely hate those menthol rubs & thought it silly to put on the bottom of the feet (no less!) Once I finally tried it, I realized that it really works. It really does help calm the cough.

JM: Are you taking anything for this?

I've heard that Teetree oil w/ regular oil rubbed on the chest helps.
I've read that drinking raw honey with cinnamon helps.
I've also heard that rubbing ??? on feet helps.... menthol stuff.... geesh..... brain freeze, here.

Taking probiotics, ginger, drinking peppermint tea?

Thanks! My sinus is probably about 75 % or better now, but it went into my chest so now I am having coughing spells on and off and getting stuff up out of my chest. And my stomach is acting up on and off with it too. Hopefully in a day or too it will be better.

Good Morning everyone,

after a long weekend I feel ready to tackle the week. Pain is quite controlled (controlled not gone...) during the week.

Have realized the hospital I am going to has really gotten expensive for their drugs & laboratory, so I have finished 70% of my outpatient cover (we have an annual limit) and 4 months to go. So I will pay me regular drugs from my pocket, since I know the cost and can budget for it and see how I can control the cost.

Wishing all a good start into the week.

HI everyone,

my RA pain is getting better and don't feel feverish anymore. Also my mouth sores are getting better. So I guess my body is getting used to the meds.
Walked to the Club this morning and had breakfast there, about 3.75km one way (7.5km total). That way I avoided being tempted to walk too far and broke the walk with a rest in between. Body feeling good afterwards.

Janette,
all the best for your training.

Berry,
I am like Linsey got most of my crowns right after the braces came out. So when they started falling out, my dentist told, me such good work (they were the old gold type), is not done any more, we will reuse them. There was no problem on the remaining tooth, so he cleaned the crowns up & cemented them back in.

The newer crowns I have have been giving me more problems. I have no dental cover (not common here in Kenya) so I can go where ever I want to. Have been with my current dentist for many years. He also gives me a chance to pay him in installments.

I would suggest you look for another dentist 8 appointments for a crown is too much 5 would be on the higher side. They are not doing something right.

Have taken 1.5 days (yesterday & today) off to give my body some rest to get used to the drugs and it is working. I did my grocery shopping during the day yesterday, which takes a lot of stress out of it and ever since surviving the Westgate attack I do have a problem with shopping in Malls on weekends..... Just feel tense, not the terror anymore that I used to feel, just unease.
Now I hear they have started renovating Westgate, not sure I will go back there. It was very convenient, near home, ample basement parking and had all the atms and shops I needed. We are apparently doing cctv in the bank branch (well they are our customers for all their branches), in which I spend 5.5 terrifying hours. Funny enough one of the accountants from my current company was also there. This is one project I will not go to supervise....

Wishing all of us a nice weekend

Hi ladies! Looks like I am going to be really busy for at least 3 months with training.

As far as dental work goes I know people that have had problems with it all. Both my parents had dentures while they were both still fairly young and most of the time they hated them. The ones that they found that fit good were really expensive and with time just wore down and then teeth would start falling out or they would break in half. And then the next pair they would get just wouldn't fit right and would rub and irritate their gums and such. And would also break easy too. Seemed they had at least one tooth fall out several times, and had them break in half several times each. And then they didn't really like the stuff that you had to use to keep them put in your mouth either. They tried all kinds of that stuff and didn't like it but you really need it. As they got older they spent more time with their dentures out of their mouths then probably with them in as they really just didn't like wearing them.

I had a temp crow that kept falling off until it got a permanent one put one. I have two crowns that gets food stuck in between them a lot and it can start to hurt.

My brother, sister and other relatives have all had problems with crowns, implants and dentures.

Berry: I feel your pain. I've had crowns ever since I was a teenager. Got my braces off & right away, had 4 crowns put on. There was barely enough room for them, in my mouth. I have gaps & always need to floss, after I eat. A couple yrs ago, another long ago filled molar fell apart....that meant I got ANOTHER crown. There are 5 gold crowns in my mouth. When I was a young person, I was bothered that all the gold just made me look like an old person. That's the least of it. It's caused some temperature sensitivity, over the years. It comes & goes. Right now, everything is fine. Still, there are times I wish I'd just had false ones. Ppl don't believe me, when I say that. My dad had false teeth (from a young age) & I never heard him complain about them.

BERRY: I have a space between teeth and and it gets packed with food. Can hurt like heck!
Dentist suggests a better crown. I do oil pulling and a salt rinse and floss and brush.

There are places you can call or check online for the best dentist for you in your area.

STEPH - Sounds like dealing with RA will be a "big" deal??! Can't be good to tank the immune system in order to work, can it?

Here, the days are just too full to fit everything in. I'm having to cancel getting to my quilting group in order to work on taxes and semester grades. Not exactly "fun" activities. emoticon
Anyone else in the group having dental issues? -- DH and I are coming to the conclusion that getting quality work for a decent price is just not around where we've been looking! It feels like we've lost the old-fashioned standard(s) of taking pride in our work and not cutting corners.
All that to say, is that LAST year it took 7 or 8 appts. to get a crown done properly. And now I'm dealing with replacing one that is over 20 yrs old. I'm already into my 3rd appt. The temp. allowed space between teeth and packed in food and caused so much discomfort that I was having to take an ibuprofen each time after I ate (not to mention that there was ROTTING food & pus & blood when the temp was removed). I CAN"T believe that is a "good" thing! Grr.r.r.r.r.r.r.

We finally did have the meeting and a few things happened.
- GM Ops & I managed to keep very calm & professional (Yeah!!!)
- Directors were stunned with our presentation
- Consultant became very defensive
- Consultant lied in front of us...... Yep he did. Not sure if the Directors believe it, but he did. Have 2 people who can confirm this.
- He confirmed my suspicion: He had always worked in international companies, who happen to have an office in Kenya, never in a Kenyan Company. No wonder he does not understand certain things. There is a world of a difference between the 2.... LOL
- He confirmed in public that he does not know much about project management and it is not he needs to rely on my expertise - well let's see if he can walk the talk....

What was agreed is that the consultant - as much as he wants to directly get involved - needs to take a step back & do his changes through us.
We made it clear that him overriding our authority belittles us. Especially in the Kenyan context.

We will see how it goes. It was also agreed I keep working on my systems, just not implement any at this point.

Am feeling really sh.... the new drugs for RA are showing side effects. Have a mouth full of sores, mild diarrhea and not sure yet if this is just a combination of side effects and RA effects, or if I am getting a cold. Well no wonder the drugs used do suppress the immune system somewhat to fight the RA.
Am in the office and feeling slightly better than 2 hrs ago, but not sure if I will stay the whole day.

Janette,

congrats on your new job! Wish you the best for it.

Tiring week here and still have not had the meeting I requested for 10 days ago to clarify what the "Consultant" is doing, what his level of direct engagement is. Not sure what my job is any more.

And don't like his attitude. He told me on his second day it is "his way or the highway" and then he told me in front of my most junior team member and anyone else who was in the open plan office, that all my colleague and I have been doing is wrong. He then modified it to "our timing was wrong". Well thanks for trashing all I have worked for so hard and slashing my authority into pieces......

It rained last night. emoticon It was the rain that sounded like 'white noise'. Stopped around 3:00 this morning. How do I know these things? One asks..... Someone needs to figure out how to sleep well!!

Sue and ladies, Yes, it worked out great! The rain waited until after I got back from dropping the boy off to school to start. So I didn't have to drive in it. It went for an hour or so and stopped, then started back up later and then stopped again. And then started and stopped again. So the bf even made it home before it got going really good again. It has stopped for a while now, so I managed to get the dogs out several times to do their business with out them being caught in it. It is suppose to start back up later and then finish before tomorrow morning before the bf has to go to work.

I just had some forms emailed to me to fill out for my new job selling life ins. So looks like things are moving forward with me starting a new job and career. Still have to get info on where and how to sign up for classes and testing for the license to really be a part of the company. But looks like it is happening.

I just use The Weather Channel through Yahoo mostly and it is just showing showers starting tomorrow morning going for an hour or so and then breaking and then going for another hr or so. And then breaking for several hours and then going for several hours. And gone by the next morning. Doesn't say any thing about thunderstorms, so maybe it is just going to be sprinkling on and off with some heavy rain thrown in during the evening when it is suppose to be going the longest?

Interesting.

"they" always say, 'chance of thunderstorms'. My DH loves thunderstorms. I try to hide under the bed with one of my cats. The other cat hangs out with DH watching the storms. LOL

I just checked again and now they are saying we have 60% in day and 50% at night tomorrow, but then 0 % the next two days and then a slight chance after that. So probably just a fast moving small storm coming in. Take care.

Same here, too! Up to 76 degrees in the house... and I'm trying to do a bunch of cooking. Ugh!

Hope it rains soon here. Sure need it. Amazing how the weeds endure.

The sun IS shining today--once the fog lifted. Time to get out for a walk!
