Not a nice end to a good day. Sitting at the airport in Johannesburg waiting for the plane which is at least 2hours late.
Airport is otherwise empty and 2 airport employees started playing soccer. I just want to sleep.....argh

BERRY: That's a good article & yikes! I'm glad I don't make all those casseroles. Our turkey is the small, boneless & skinless one. I like my gravy, but, opt for FF. The green beans are just plain, the mashed potatoes are homemade & lumpy, the stuffing has no sausage. I also like my desserts. Yikes, on those. I've already started with the baking....cranberry bread is now in the freezer. Love that stuff. I'm sure the calories are out there.

STEPH: Sounds like the conf & shopping has been lots of fun.

Wow, Berry, great article. I didn't realize how many calories are in a Thanksgiving meal.
The only saving grace for me is that I run 8 miles every Thanksgiving (so I can say "I already 8") LOL!! Seriously, gratitude is an everyday thing, but Thanksgiving gives you a change to verbalize the things most important to you.

Thankfulness can and SHOULD occur year round! To put too much of everything into "just one meal" seems quite out of perspective, IMO.

Personally I thoroughly dislike the "should's" that seem to surround big events. I prefer to simplify vs. over-magnify a holiday meal. With that said, I'm putting a turkey breast in the crock pot, fixing home-grown mashed potatoes, several salads, & a pumpkin pie. (just the basics!)

Thanks and Congrats Steph!

I learned it really doesn't matter what the ex says she has planned as she or the boy always try to change the plans at the last min. I have just learned to try to go with the flow here. It's not that important to me as what ever happens. We never seem to celebrate Holidays on their actual date any more, which is fine with me. Been with them for over 5 yrs now, so I know nothing ever goes exactly the way we plan it, it always seems to get changed several times before the event actually gets there. I am not planning any thing, and not worrying about having anything special. I am just glad I have a roof over my head, running water, and electricity, and food in the house. What ever will be will be.

All my best to you all always. Janette

HI Janette,

just ask the boys mother, what she is planing. Hope you get some more me-time in.

Elisadenk,
no plans for Thanksgiving. Here it is a church holiday celebrated on a Sunday in September / October, not something every one does.

So we will be working, going to the gym and all the normal stuff....

I am almost ready to go. Only need the e-ticket link and confirm the status of my credit card. suitcase is halfway packed. Now need to get myself through a long day, even have the monthly chapter meeting this evening and then need to get to the airport in good time early in the morning.

Not yet, still don't know if I am going to be home all by myself, or if the bf is going to make it home in time for it. And have no idea where the boy will be either. I am sure he will want to be with his mom or friend's like usual.

Now I am only waiting for the e-ticket to be send to me.

Also of course got some running around to do like getting money changed (Kenyan Shillings can only be exchanged within East Africa, so when we travel we always need a different currency.

But looks like, even though next 2 days will be hectic, I will get all sorted out in time.

Then we will reach South Africa in the morning and conference starts in the evening with a Cocktail, so I have a whole day to relax.
Ok will have to check my emails, but that's about it.

Linsey,
I have been wanting to go to SA for a while, but this is an unplanned trip. Still not sure if I can go, am awaiting to hear how much they will sponsor me. I can only go if the sponsor the flight in full.

Thanks! Things are going a lot better right now than a week ago for sure. The truck seems to be doing okay. Supposedly there is a short in the wiring of the driver's seat belt that I wasn't aware of. But but it isn't making the dash light for it act up any more luckily. And stepping on the regular brakes and then releasing the emergency brake before trying to shift gears seems to have stopped the problem of it not wanting to get out of park. I was use to leaving the emergency brake on and trying to shift and then releasing the emergency brake. But bf told me I really should have been doing it the other way the whole time. And as long as it is working I am happy. And DD, the boy's dog is enjoying going for long walks each day.

It isn't freezing here, but the temps are dropping at night and first thing in the morning. I was told last year when I started to try running during the winter time that light layers was the way to go too. And they have lots on special different types of materials now that are suppose to help wick away moisture that can really help you to stay dry and warm now. And some are better at blocking the wind than others and yet can still be on the thin and light side. We are having a windy Santa Anna today, but the wind isn't really hot like we can get in Oct. It was in the 60's when I took my walk today and it was nice. A little windy and crisp, but the sun was out and it was nice. Not too cold or too hot. We are suppose to get into the mid 70's today, but I don't think it is going to make it up there. We will drop into the 50's or 40's at night time and early in the AM. I just chose to start walking a little later into the day instead of early in the AM so that the sun was warming up the place while I am walking. As I have some arthritis in my lower back and left hip from an old car accident in my 20's, and I seemed to have irritated it recently. And with the cooler weather I was feeling my age and feeling really sore and stiff back there.

Well have a great day and new week everyone!

STEPH: The travel sounds very interesting!

JM: It sounds like you are doing well with your charge.

ELISA: I got the earmuffs. The best fitting ones were for kids, tho. They are cheetah, with tiny ears (which, DH said looked like devils horns. BwaHaHa.) I could cut that part off. I am using the bucket hat, more, so far. I'm trying out my diff coats & have concluded that the cold seeps thru, even the best one. When it's cold, it's COLD. We're working on moving away from this cold stuff & being somewhere where we can walk all the time....

Thanks Steph!

He was actually a lot better behaved then I thought he would be. Was just being a picky eater mostly and did try to push the boundaries once or twice. But at least he wasn't being rude as he likes to be to me a lot. And it looks like it will just be a few hrs here and there, and not all day and night for several days or half the week like he would usually be here.

Janette
looks like you are the regular "baby"sitter now. Hang in there it is only a few hours each day.

Nice weekend everyone. It really has cooled down with the rains, am wearing long sleeves. This is unusual for the long rains. Maybe another side effect of the global warming. Weather patterns here have definitely changed.

Yes, the time is just flying by faster and faster!

Well the boy went to school today supposedly. But will be with me for several hours on Monday as there is no school that day, and his mom has to go to his parent teacher conference and other stuff too for herself to that day. And he will be with me for a few hrs on Tuesday and maybe some other times too.

Hi everyone,

I got elected as Secretary of the PMI Kenya Chapter, a great honor! Looks like we have a good team together and right now they all sound enthusiastic. Let's see if it lasts....

I have been asked to attend a Leader conference in South Africa next week. I don't have to get a visa, since I am German, but don't have the money. Let's see if they can get the sponsorship.

Also need to talk to my boss.

Have you guys realized that it is Friday! It came quietly.

Have a great day everyone!

Thanks! It does seem like it is always one thing after another, LOL!

The boy didn't seem that sick to me, a little sniffle on and off? I think it was more he just didn't want to go to school again? But then he also supposedly didn't have much of an appetite before coming here and didn't want to eat when he got here either even thought it was lunch time. Then several hrs later he was hungry but didn't want a sandwich or anything healthy, he just wanted junk food of course. So I made him at least eat some lunch meat alone with crackers and cheese before he could have the cookies. His mom said she plans on trying to make him go to school tomorrow no matter what, but we will see? I got a feeling he is going to end up back with me tomorrow? And the bf called right after the kid went back home and now he has to stay in Canada for at least another week too. And the kid is off school Monday and only goes to school half day the rest of next week, so I could end up with him part or all of it too? And the week after that he is off from school the whole week too.

Well take care everyone.

All my best to you all always. I had the place to myself since Sunday evening until just a minute ago. As the bf is in Canada again. But the bf's son is supposedly down with a cold and his mom had to go to a meeting, so she just dropped him off to me for several hrs. I am hoping the bf will get to come home Sat afternoon, but we are not sure when he will be done with what he is doing for his company up there yet. The boy is suppose to be with his mom until Monday afternoon/evening, but I got a feeling that he will probably be over here again Friday and Monday instead of going to school?

Well all my best to you all always. Janette

Linsey,

come over here, it's warmer. Even though it has cooled down & rainy season has started, right now it is about 21'C, which is about 70'F.

Yesterday I had a crazy day sorting out issues on projects, but today was more organized.
Let's see how it continues. D. & the kids will not come this weekend, we had to postpone, but she is doing well and is happy to have the kids back from boarding. Her Mum is also still around and spoiling her.

Looks like I have a weekend to myself. Let's see what i can get up to. Am still feeling under the weather because if TOM and a cold, so I guess I will rest a lot.

What are your weekend plans?

So sorry about your car breakdown.

I had a great weekend. Attended the wedding, but went to the gym first, that way I stuck within the limit, even though i endulged... LOL

Saturday I went to Machakos to visit my friends and we had a good time with them, they had a party for the graduation of their Godson.

Sunday i played Golf, then went for a long drive with BF. I enjoyed the quiet time with him in the car, then we went for coffee and later visited friends to watch cricket & have dinner with them.

Now it's time to go back to reality

Our truck broke down on me today leaving me stuck in a near by city for several hrs trying to get it fixed so I could get home. I had already dropped the bf off at the airport about 30 mins before since he has to go out of the country to work again for at least a week. So I couldn't call him for help, and he took his car keys with him too so I don't have the use of his car either while he is gone. I ended up having to replace the battery, and finally made it home but it is still acting up. So I hope it works it's self out so I don't end up having to have it put into a repair shop. I had already walked the dog for an hour walking more than 5 K early this morning. Then got stuck for several hrs with the truck, so I keep pacing around while I waited for AAA Auto to come help me. So I got lots of walking in today. Now I am tired and I have a head ache too. Luckily the boy is suppose to stay with his mom this week as they have relatives visiting them and I had also just managed to drop him off to his mom before the truck died. So hopefully I don't have to really go any where until it is time to pick the bf up again from the airport. I wanted to get some more fruit and veggies, but didn't want to stop on the way home like I had planned earlier as I was afraid I wouldn't get the truck to start again. So I can just walk up to our local store with my back pack and get what I want tomorrow or the next day. I didn't feel up to walking up there tonight after I got home finally. So I think I will probably end up going to bed early and maybe sleeping in since I have the house to myself except for the 2 yr old dog.

Cute!

When we adopted a rescue cat, named Lilly, DH decided to change her name to Jenny. Because while we were adopting the cat, he was reading a book whose daughter's name was Jenny. He said, "she looks more like a Jenny." So after pondering and praying and asking for advice, we changed her name.

She was named Blackie when we adopted her, but we didn't want to leave her with that name. She is a black lab/boxer mix. The boy got to re-name her and finally choice "DD" for Dancing Dog as she loves to wiggle and dance around with excitement.

She is actually almost 2 yrs old now, she was almost 1 when we got her. I just still think of her as a pup for some reason. The 5 K seems to be a good length for us both. She seems a little tired out and so am I, especially since coming home is almost all up hill.

With a pup it takes at least 5K to wear them out!

JM,

so sorry about your puppy. I know I also hate that feeling when I can't fix something, worse if it is a living creature.

Elisadenk,
happy to see you here.

Well yesterday I was craving carbs all day and overate accordingly. So guess it must have been the blood sugar causing the giddyness. That evening we had mainly eaten vegetable salad and fruit, nothing that lasts long in the blood.

Am feeling exhausted and am not sure if it is the RA or the perimenopause causing it.

Well I have a long weekend ahead, since I have taken the next 2 days off. A very good friends daughter is getting married tomorrow and on Saturday I want to go visit some friends upcountry.

This will be a nice change from same old same old.

All my best to you all always. I am sad from having to put my 7 yr old dog down yesterday from some freak accident that left her crippled and I couldn't fix her. Not sure what actually happened, didn't see it. She either hurt herself jumping off my bed or rough housing with our bigger pup. One min she was fine, the next she was hurt but I couldn't tell what, where, how or how bad, and then the next she was crippled and I couldn't fix it.

But I am okay. I took the pup for a long walk this morning over 3.5 miles.

Glad D is doing well! Thoughts and prayers her way anyway! Hmm, low blood sugar will do that to do. Complex carbs in moderation I think!

Hi everyone,

had great evening with D. just chatting & catching up. She is doing well on Methatrexate and now has 3 more months treatment. Her hair is of course all gone again, but then even after the last series of chemo it never really grew back.

Her son started the Primary School Exams yesterday, first day was Maths & English. He struggled with the composition subjects.... But so far so good.

We can't wait to see him when he is finished.

Last night I slept better. Woke up once, but did manage to get back to sleep. In the morning I was, not really dizzy, but lost balance. Took a while to stabilize. But got better as the morning progressed. Now wondering if this had something to do with low blood sugar. My pressure was ok. We only ate salad & fruits for dinner and it didn't have much starch in it.

Let's see how it will be tomorrow.

Sounds like a fun bunch of Ladies!

I wish I would have the time for such things. At the moment, trying to live a healthy lifestyle, spending quality time with BF, working & being involved in the PMI Kenya Chapter is all I manage to do.

Gym opened late today, so I walked up & down outside until they came. When it finally opened there was only time for a good treadmill session and stretches.

Have a good time! I went and checked out the Woman's Club of Escondido, Ca today. I got a really nice free lunch and had a lot of fun chatting with a bunch of ladies that I had never met before. I got an invite from a woman I met on an Escondido group on Facebook. It was really nice and would be fun to join if I had the money for their yearly and monthly fees, but I really don't. But they do a lot of really good charitable stuff in my city. So I am going to try to find a way to still donate to some of their things. Like they collect stuff for veteran's, the humane society, nursing homes and lots more. So I will try to keep up with knowing what they are collecting for what and donate what I can. Like the veteran's like to do art craft stuff with used postage stamps and I have some my mom collected that I could give them. They are also gathering stuff for a rummage sale right now too, so I can donate to that too. So I will keep them in mind, but I need to work on finding a job so money is coming in before I agree to let more money go out.

All my best to you all always. Janette

I also wake up most nights these days, but usually get back to sleep. It is this waking up and not being able to sleep again & waking up drenched in sweat I can't handle well.

Last night at least changing from the light blanket to the sheet only seemed to do the trick, but it does not always do it.

D. is coming over tomorrow. Here blood works are ok, Let's see what the Onkologist will say. She has 1 more month of oral Chemo scheduled.
Am looking forward to a long evening of chatting with her. Her son is doing Primary School Exams this week, will be coming on Friday from the boarding school & our adopted daughter is closing school a week later, so we need to plan our fun time with them.

I have heard of lots of people portioning out that type of stuff. I over do it some times too, but I think it is a lot healthier for me to over indulge in it that in candy or chips.

I haven't got a really good sleep with out waking up from my body, or the dogs, or the bf, or the kid, since I can remember now. Seems I am always waking up at least once a night if not more. I kept having weird strange dreams last night and I woke up several times from that. And then the bf's snoring makes it hard to get back to sleep.

Nuts only work for me if I portion before I take them, I overindulge since I love them so much. Just haven't gotten around to going to stock up on fruits & nuts etc this week. Week passed in a flush and I rarely got good sleep.
3 nights in a row I woke up and couldn't sleep for 2 hours, no matter what I tried.
Next night I woke up and got back to sleep in 30 minutes
Now last night I had serious hot flushes again, woke up 4 or 5 times.
