Yesterday wasn't a bad day. Left office early, or more acurately didn;t go back to the office after a site meeting ended early (same site meeting kept us there until 7:30pm last week). BF had called that he will be back from his business trip 1 day early.
As usual he brought me fresh veggies from upcountry. I got carrots, potatos & spinach!

Berry, my schedule was wrapped around my kids activities even when DD was in college. B/c it always seemed that if I actually schedule something for myself, inevitably, she would have a conflicting activity on her schedule to mine & I'm the one who drove her places. in H.S. when my son got his own car & had a job, his schedule became his own. DD now has her own car, so her schedule is also her own. Altho, there are still things we do together.....like some of the Zumba's & when she had a garage sale, I was helping out as well.

I had what I felt was a breakthrough moment a couple years ago, when I decided to sign up for a local 5K for myself. Sure enough(!!!) there was a city wide garage sale that day, and DD was starting her garage sale at the same moment that I was walking my 5K. She was old enough to do it on her own, & I helped out with the sale once I got back done with the 5K.

It does get frustrating. As a mom, you want to help your kids do all that they can do. In the meantime, try to schedule some things for just yourself if possible. I gained all my weight when I was paying attention to everyone else & not to myself. When I joined SP, I also decided it was time to quit always putting myself on the back burner. I know it's difficult to carve out the time for oneself, as there are only so many hours in a day.

Reminds me of my time in Highschool, when Mum was unwell and I was in charge of my Babysister (almost 1 years younger than me and I am her Godmother), I used to always have to make sure first that one of my brothers & sister s had time to take care of her, before I could plan anything. Most of the time I ended up taking her along

Make sure you schedule me-time in otherwise you will go under

Does anyone else have their schedules wrapped around kid-type activities, etc?? I feel like I'm constantly having to adjust each week to their changes, appts, places to be, etc. I really have to push to find the time to do what needs to be done, exercise, meal-planning, ETC. I often feel like I'm dropping the ball...as I've gotten older. Seems like my multi-tasking abilities have disappeared. Argh!

Just got the job offer. The salary is basically the same I am getting right now, but no health insurance. Would have to buy my own.

Need to think about this.

Thanks, it ent very well, now waiting for the feed-back.

Had a touching moment at work today. Actually two:
1. A new employee in Cisco department walks up to me and says, he can see I am struggling and I need a gun, which one would I like? ..... turns out he has been reading my emails and seen the problems I have with technicians not answering and not sorting client issues out and (oh a blseeing!) he knows all about real project management. He used to work with IBM!!!! The worlds first fully projectized company!
We had a good talk and he is willing to help me in my fight

2. I went to a project site I hadn't manage to visit in 1 month, to do an inspection. The Foreman, respects me a lot and comes to me even for counseling in private things. So I decided to hint to him that I might be leaving the company. He was off course crushed about it and then said the most unexpected thing: He said quite a number of the technicians (all being handled as casuals and not permanent, even though they have been around for years),respect me a lot and are still with our Company because of me! He says they evn told their Supervisor, the Senior Networking Engineer, that they are hanging around because of me. This really touched me and shook me up, since it was so unexpected.

Yesterday we had a first attempt on the interview. First the internet connection was too slow for skype, then we agreed to try again 2 hours later. I rushed back to the Mall to get air time for my other modem, that usually works better.
Then I sat there waiting and the Director didn't come on. Spend the time chatting with my aunt. Then 1 hour later he came on, just to apologize and we rescheduled for this evening.
Hope it works out better.

Feeling really frustrated about my current job, find myself sitting in meetings thinking, I don;t want to have to go through this every day of my life.....

You better get that checked out! I have had it for 10 days or more, but never continuos, apart from the time they removed a fibroid from my ovary and my hormones were out of wack for 2 months.

I just got a call that the comapny that has already interviewed me twice wants to have a third interview with me, now the Director himself!
Wish me luck, this will be before the end of the week.

Berry,

wow you have been busy, Great that you still found the energy to walk!

I walked while BF played golf yesterday. Then we drove with another friend down to Makindu. Me doing all the driving, should have burned some calories as well. Makindu ios a very restful place. It is the biggest Sikh Tempel in Kenya. Sikh Tempels are open to everyone. and you can eat & sleep there for free, but usually people give a donation afterwards. BF was attending a function there & I tagged along. Today I was driving again, so I chose a different route. The road has suffered from the rains, but had hardly any traffic and the potholes where not too deep. This route has a beautiful mountain road winding up & down with wonderful views and we stopped somewhere for a coffee picnic. Now I feel rested and ready to face the week

I'm enjoying an iced coffee after a 1-hr walk on a local walkway. Lots of wind, pollen, and dust scattering around. Thankful for the sun and being able to get out and walk!

t's been crazy this week w/ a son turning 18, dh has a birthday today, and dd left early AM for a drive trip to Reno, NV for an ARBA show (rabbits!). My dh asked why I was running around today, I said, "getting stuff done for everyone else!" -- At least the sun IS out!

My interview went very well. But have to wait for the results until end of next week, since they are interviewing someone else next week.

Meanwhile work is just blahhhhh... Found in one of the big projects, that the work has not been done up to standard, was quite embarrassing. Also found yesterday that the whole team was coming to work late.....

Have spend yesterday & today only on this project. So the others are likely to be slagging. It never ends, does it?

HI Everyone,

work is still total stress. Today Directors decided to tell lies about things I supposedly messed up and promised to sort out. Well found my email in that regard, there you are: I did nto promise anything I only explained the situation!!!!

More sure than ever that I need a new job...... Well have that interveiw on Thursday. My problem will be deciding if I will go for it. They can offer me only about the same I am earning now, but it is a growing company and there is potential for growth. Also it is an international company. My bosses would be Dutch.

Sugar,
I speak fluent: German (My mothertongue), English, Kiswaheli and then i know bits & pieces (just some expressions) in several other tribal languages.
I came here 20 years ago as a Nurse in Mission Services. I don't like the Kenyan Coast too much, too humid, too crowded and signs of sex-tourism everywhere..... Tanzanian Coast is much nicer, you can still find clean & empty beaches it is less humid (not sure why, since it is the same climate zone).

I worked with the missionaries for 2 years, but had too many argument with them. They were having a good time and their reports were too full of lies. They accused me to be spending too much time in the village (went there almost daily during my off hours) and in the village I kept on being asked why I am the only one from the mission station who is coming down.

What was you husband doing in Mombasa?

Sorry about the work being left Steph! Bummer!

How many languages do you speak? You wrote something in German so I assume that, and you do SP in English. Any others? My DH spent about 35 days in Mombasa in 1995. How did you end up there?

Please keep praying for my dad everyone.

STEPH, sorry to hear that your co workers let you down that's a bummer that you can't rely on others at work to do things you have asked them to do.

I hope you have a good day despite all the extra work your having to do.

Sugar,
that is great that your Dad is in the same town & Mum can stay with him! Hope he keeps getting better!

I had a nice relaxing weekend, even though I started with a Migraine. But that was expected, usually when I have been stressed over a long time and then start to relax I get a migraine. BF was there for me & very sweet.
Saturday i went walking with him while he played golf - good workout for me!
Today we took another friend of ours, who is stressed out trying to organize his daughers wedding (she is getting married here in Mombasa, lives in UK & he (the Dad) usually livesin Dubai), out for lunch at the LImuru Country Club I always find that serene country side and the beautiful view from the verandah so relaxing.

Quick update on my dad, he is here in town with us (actually on the other side of town so 40 minutes away) in a rehab center. My mom can stay in the room with him so she doesn't have to lose time and energy driving back and forth. I on the other hand do drive most days and am way behind in my own housework. He has up days and down days and right now things aren't looking good long term but please keep praying. It helps.

Hi I am new to this team and I am wondering if this is the correct thread to post questions and concerns that I might have about menopause? or is there a better thread to follow?

Thank you for the encouragement. emoticon emoticon

That is wonderful about them calling you back, Steph!

Hey, guess what I discovered on the fitness tracker?? They have "painting" listed as one of the activities. We have started back up with our house painting & it is very time consuming. DH does the paint roller on the walls. I do all the edging and trim work. I don't trust him to do the detail work. emoticon I can tell I'm getting a workout, tho. I am doing lots of knee bends, downward facing dog (sorta) emoticon

We had been painting last year, but had to stop when the temps got up in the triple digits. (----the hottest summer since I've ever lived in Michigan. DH grew up here & he says it's the hottest summer he remembers EVER having here.) This year, so far, it's been colder than usual. Idk what THIS summer will be like, but right now....it's perfect temps for painting.

Linsey,

woohoo to staying on track!

My ninterview went so well that they called me the next day to schedule a second interview, this time face to face here in Nairobi.
This is next week Thursday.

Will be interesting.

Had more trouble with the alarm system at work - more sleepless nights. We had just repaired everything and the system was running fine, yesterday morning and then another major power surge came, blowing lots of equipment in our office. I am lucky my own work laptop I had plugged in to charge, but switched the outlet off (here in Kenya outlets have a switch), so my laptop did not blow. I was out for a meeting, so when I came back & heard the alarm dictribution box had smoke coming out during the surge I knew I was in for trouble.

Well right now the technician is there to repair everything and I have been given a day off tomorrow.
So I will have a whole weekend for myself!

3 days, so far, of consistent food tracking = staying within my calories. I think I can do this! emoticon emoticon

I have not been good about tracking my foods. BUT, yesterday I did. One of the points of tracking is that it is an eye opener. I went over in my calories, all while having a salad for lunch & seemingly being "good" & mindful of my careful eating. I see there is something to work on. The biggest thing is to just keep on tracking those foods.

Mixed feelings today:

on the one hand am TIRED! have had to come to the office for some alarm system issues at 3:40am, then didn;t manage to sleep again.

On the other hand received a phonecall from a recruitment agency which I am signed up with and they have some company who wants to interview me. Another skype interview, company sits in Netherlands, but has offices in Nairobi. Jobs sounds interesting, would be combination of Project Management & Admin skills required. Hope I am awake enough to do this interview. But this late night incident helps me to be able to leave early and be home in time for the interview.

That's good news, Steph. I remember what those 6-7 day work weeks were like. DH worked those for many years.

I was about to brag on about our wonderful, warm weather here. But, just heard it might actually snow tomorrow. Ugh. Will it never end?? It was actually warm enough yesterday that we had the door open.

Will try!

Finally some good news at work: We will only be working 1 Saturday a month now and that will be for training or meetings. That's an improvement!

Monday morning, back to work. Lots to do, but have to keep giving myself peptalks to keep psyched....

Wish I could fast forward time and find myself, having sorted out the dual citizenship and having a new job, where I am not constantly overworked and which I actually like.....

Ok enough of mopping around, Steph get your act together and do your very best.....

Yes I will go for dual. Have already the permit from Germany, that the German law requires (Beibehaltungsgenehmigung.......) and am now waiting for the new government to be in place until then the Immigrations people are not working much and it would be a waste of time to put it in now. We are in Africa.... Things are not that straight forward here...LOL

Steph, that's a shame. Are you going to get dual citizenship?

Result from my interview:

Work permit is the issue, since they employ their people as indipendant consultants and that way I can not get a work permit here, unless they do (and they are not able, having no office here) I can not be considered.

Still sounded like the Lady is really sad about that, but that's how it is.

Time I get that dual citizenship sorted out. But with the new constitution here it will still be a while until the new cabinet is in place and the Immigration guys start working normal again.
