I went for 2 doggy walks today. And, one of them was with DH. THAT is his accomplishment, not mine. But, I was so glad that he'd decided to go with us.

On Friday, we went for a hike. It was almost 4 miles and an 800 foot climb. It took us 3 hours but we did it! And what a gorgeous view from the top.

, Elisa. I did that once too with my coffee. It was at a restaurant and they didn't bring me any sweetner and so I just started to drink it and it wasn't too bad. Of course, it tasted like it was really good coffee, not cheap stuff. I actually ran out of half and half and just used whole milk the other day. It wasn't too bad either. Just goes to show you that being willing to try something different works sometimes. And sometimes it takes a couple of tries. Thats the same thing with veggies for me. If at first I don't like it, I just try it again in the future and its not as bad as the first time.

That's great KTACKEBE. I've started using whole milk and half and half. It's still too yucky using only whole milk but I'll get there. Keep up the good work! My husband was in a small car accident; he wasn't hurt, it was just a fender-bender (literally). But he got very cranky (again) and I was able to handle it pretty well until he verbally attacked me. But I didn't run to food or drink. And we finally resolved the bad feelings. It sure helps to work on some of that emotional crap.

I was waiting for a phone call that never arrived, yesterday. To keep myself busy, I did some scrapbooking, worked on a few cards, and baked up some focaccia bread for dinner. It helped in keeping me from going stir crazy in my wait. BIG let down that the call never came.
Still working to get the calories under control. Yesterday my big accomplishment was doing some repair work on a ratty & torn quilt. It's falling apart enough that I just need to sew any size patch on it....not keeping with the original pattern. But, it's the quilt that DH uses as a lap bankie and big-dog-who-thinks-she's-a-lap-dog is on his lap & on the quilt.

I am well within my calories and can go have a snack for dinner! I know that sounds kinda funny, but we had our big meal of the day when we had a late lunch. We went out to a restaurant and I had soup and salad.

Thnx, Elisa. Yes, I am finally getting better. Shew, that was a bit of a doozy for awhile!
Today's accomplisments: Did the January Jumpstart Challenge Exercise videos for 2 days. I had joined yesterday afternoon, so didn't do the video (b/c of Zumba)...but did 2 today to make up for it.
Also, managing to spread the Spark a bit to another online group of parents I know from another walk of my life. Everyone is thinking of making a new start in January, and that's not all bad.

Went for a doggy walk today in the snow. Went to Zumba after missing it for a month. Yeh, felt good. The cough started coming back, toward the end.....when we were stretching. So, I DID make it through the whole class. I left 5 minutes early b/c of the cough. Still, it was good.

I had quite a victory the other day. Seems like things kept going wrong. I went to a funeral, my friend ended up in the hospital (she's better now), my husband got very cranky and argumentative. I seemed to handle all these situations pretty well (I'm leaning more on God), even without eating (or drinking) myself into oblivion. Yay for me!

Biopsy came back negative--got back in good health for 2 weeks riding my exercise bike an average of an hour a day, then got struck down by a cold. Exercised thru it but down to half an hour average a day, then it went into my chest with this deep, rasping, whooping cough. Powered thru it until Tuesday then called in sick and rested. didn't sleep for more than a few minutes at a time for 4 days due to the cough. Last nite exercised for a half hour, and slept for most of 8 hrs in bed with only one coughing fit requiring me to get up and take cough syrup and honey. We'll try being on the road to mend again, with more rest and back to exercising. I HAVE got to learn to take care of me first.

Got my walk in yesterday. Trying to get back on track & get back to tracking food better. This should not be so difficult for me to do. It's just a matter of disciplining myself.....
I echo Cindyramie's post - making it a daily goal to stay on track with exercise and food and POSTING even with all the busy-ness of the holiday week. Stay well, Pat
I believe in myself, I am a strong woman. I will reach my goals, NOTHING & NOBODY will hold me down. I will live my life with integrity and intention. I will set a good example for my daughters and my son. I will be a woman that makes my grand daughter proud when she looks at pictures of me long after I've left this earth.

went to a body conditioning exercise class and for the first time could finish all the exercises - jumping jacks, running on the spot, lunges etc - used to stop before an exercise ended because I was too too tired. wonderful to realise that I am getting fitter

Since I know I will eat more than my daily calories for Thanksgiving, Christmas and other holiday parties, I'm starting now to do some extra cardio. Today I got in an extra 20 mintues.

gym day (@ 100 min) = 25 min cardio + 60 min ST + stretching
Someone challenged me to begin to be as diligent with FOOD tracking as I am w/ exercise tracking. Hmmm... I feel successful at one, but NOT the other. (Can you guess which one?!?)
Sigh... I told her that might be a worthwhile "new year's" goal to develop diligence in that category.

I certainly hope the results are "nothing to worry about!" FELICIAKS. This may sound silly, but I actually was able to accomplish fixing a home-cooked meal tonight. It's been a week since ds was in the hospital having surgery. LOTS of things have been "out-of-kilter!" I really recommend the Spark people "Spaghetti Squash" recipe(s). The first 2 are the ones I targeted. Tonight I made the 2nd one. It was the first time I've ever tried spaghetti squash! I definitely will do so again!

You all are doing so well. I get my stitches out tomorrow from my oral surgery and am SO looking forward to it. Hoping they have the biopsy results also and that there is nothing to worry about. Have to weed the flowerbeds tonight for an hour, but have gotten an hour in on the exercise bike this week by doing 2 30-minute sessions due to still being careful from surgery on Thursday.

Today's victory is day 300 of 10minutes of exercise per day! I did 40 minutes of Zumba Fitness for the Xbox Kinect. It's been a while since I've done Zumba, so it was quite challenging.

Wow Berry4, that's some great advise about losing weight vs maintaining weight. And I really need to change my behavior by making those good choices and feeling better about myself for that. I've done it before and it feels great. Now to make that more of a habit and not just a once-in-a-while type thing. THANKS!

I guess I'm at a place where the work to get to a "healthy" spot is reminding me to do the work to STAY there and not slide.
Over the past 48 hrs. I've spent numerous hours at the hospital dealing w/ ds & an unexpected issue. However, I determined to choose healthy foods or just not eat. And I made sure to maintain my water intake.
* I'm trying to enjoy the little things and feeling good about choosing well. * I'm thankful for the process of thinking things through to help me stay where I want to stay.

Finally getting back in to the pattern of using the food tracker everyday. Staying within my calories (most days.)
I finally dragged out my sewing machine and set it up. I had a mound of project to get through.
After finishing a few projects, I realized there was a reason why it took me so long (months) to do it.
I hurt! My back and shoulders. AND it was exhausting -- not the sitting and sewing part, but the up, down and around of putting the completed project where they were supposed to go.

Getting laundry done!!
Also, not eating as much junk food. (I think what started the junk food thing was eating pizza. Although I had a salad with it and it was a veggie pizza.)

Good Luck, Linsey! Doesn't walking after sitting all day feel wonderful?! My victory today was to get back into my calorie range; partly by not snacking so much (yeah, I'm still working on that!). But it sure does help to drop the pounds.

Managing to get in an hour of walking last night, even tho I'd spent the whole day driving. Now to figure out how to map my route..... I can do it, I can do it, I can do it.....(wish me luck.)
I am working more on my cardio. It helps that my muscles are sore and can't to weight training for a few days.

Something I'm learning: "How do I want to FRAME the choices before me?" I can decide to be deprived or empowered. I can decide how I want to feel. I can decide that my health IS worth making good choices for the long haul. I CAN do this!
(Honestly, I'm "in process"...and definitely NOT arrived.)

Yesterday, right before dinner, I was a little tired which usually leads to pre-meal nibbling. I put on my tennies, took a half hour walk listening to my ipod, and by the time I arrived home, I was calm and in control. Wow, these little distraction techniques really work!

CINDY: Think of Quinoa as a grain like rice OR cereal. Put some sweetener in it. Yum!
Today = ate a nice salad, some of which I was able to harvest from my garden.

Elisa: I tried quinoa from a box (like rice a roni) and I didn't like it all. I thought maybe it was because of the spices they put in it. It sounds like I'm not the only one who doesn't like the taste of quinoa. I guess the pizza toppings didn't hide that taste. My victory was to pass up a lovely looking piece of decadent cheesecake dipped in chocolate at the store. I got a donut instead (probably a calorie difference of about a million). That way I wasn't depriving myself (too much).

Finally got around to finishing an untried Quinoa Pizza Crust recipe. It needed to be baked in a 450 degree oven. Too hot for here, right now. The crust actually turned out! Still tasted like Quinoa, tho. hmmm

Berry!
My accomplishment today was to set my alarm for 4:20am, get ready, and go out into the garage to do my 30 minutes of strength training, before work. And I did it!

I found out that my lean tissue vs. fat content is at a "good" health category and just 1% shy of "excellent" health. (I had a Bod Pod body composition measurement this week and it indicated that my hard work in both nutrition and exercise HAVE made a difference!)
My personal challenge is to be able to MAINTAIN this during my personal months of struggle (Oct. - Mar.) I don't want to lose what I've worked so hard to achieve.
