I'd have to agree with Linsey, be easy on this one.

Just don't be the too honest-blunt-unpleasant approach...that tends to dead pan a conversation. emoticon emoticon I think I've done that before, actually. ROFL

Gladly! LOL~~

Lots of good info: There are 3 basic entrance maneuvers --
The Honest Approach
The Fade-in
The Flattery Entree

DH does the Fade-In; I'm REALLY not good at it.
Mine are the other two. Honest being the most used.

How about you?

Wow, Elisa! I didn't know there was a SP team like that, but it sounds like a good idea. I remember when I first started chatting in a live chat room for moms (many years ago),I wrote down a lil cheat sheet for myself of some of the "words" and their meanings. I mistakenly thought the D in front of DH, DS, DD actually meant D*mn instead of Dear....and, consequently, it made me laugh all the many times I saw ppl use it. emoticon emoticon

Did you know there is an SP Team for those who are 'new' to posting? Ya can practice on that team. I printed out a list of .... what's it called..... texting lingo? like LOL, WTG, B/C, IDK. At first I didn't like doing the shortcuts, thinking it was a lazy thing to do.

Now == I enjoy them.

Good info LNSY!

When I first joined SP, I was rather clueless. My SPpage didn't have much on it, didn't know what I was getting myself into. I don't think I had it on Private, tho. I wanted to be a part of SP, so went 'public'.

Didn't make any posts, tho, for quite a while. AND, NOW, here I am a Co-Leader!!!!

Hello and welcome to all of our new members! We are thrilled that you have found us here on SP. emoticon We look forward to getting to know you and chatting with you here on the team message board.

I just wanted to mention that each person has the choice of setting their SP to "private" or "public". I think the default is that it's automatically a private page when you first sign up, until you choose to change that. I certainly understand wanting to keep one's page private. One thing that happens if it is public is that other SP members are able to visit your page and give you encouraging comments & SP Goodies (also an encouragement.) When and if you write blogs, other SP members will be able to read them and also give encouragement. Again, it is a personal choice. You also have the ability to remove comments from your own SP page. If someone sends you a SP Goodie with a note, only YOU will be able to read the note.

Yes, I've found that determination, determination, determination is the key. Sticking within the calorie range as much as possible....and towards the low end of the range, also. I started with just 10 minutes a day of exercise (when I first joined SP) 5 days a week....but upped it gradually to 50-60 minutes for 7 days a week. This was all a gradual change, as I didn't want to bite off more than I could chew. Strength Training is excellent for women in or age range. We need it, and it also helps us lose weight.

Mainly, tho, it's the stick-to-it attitude that gets you to your goal. If you have a bad day (or days, week, etc)...don't throw in the towel. Stand up, dust yourself off, and continue on with your goals as if you never faltered. We can do this. emoticon

Hi CRAZY81,
The main thing I would say is make sure your with in calorie range.....and doing the ST 3 to 4 times a week along with cardio....also if you'er doing 60 you might have to step it up to a few minutes more then that. I'm now doing 90 a day when I do it.

Good Morning all! I just signed up here, as I just turned 50 and think I am starting perimenopause. Hotflashes off and on, and periods showing up whenever last to early etc.. also after losing 60 pounds I am now fighting not to put it on a pound at a time, even with 1 hour of exercise 5 X's a week and walking at least 10,000 steps a day. If anyone has a suggestion how to get get this back under control all advise would be appreciated

Debbie, I used sunscreen and got a little burn, anyway. I am so pale that even when I get a tan....it doesn't really look like it. I felt good about not getting burnt to a crisp. emoticon Plus, I'm the one who had the lil pre-cancerous spot taken from my nose last summer. SO, I made SURE to have sunscreen on, and wear a big hat part of the time, too. emoticon

DH wanted a week in Florida, so we went....soaked up the sun and used free points for motel stays. Woo Hoo. Had a good time. Tonight, we're home and back to reality. LOL. Missed my puppy, so it's good to see her:) There's snow here, but not too much.

I'd have to agree with you Debb, a very weird winter in deed, how ever I'm loving it, in fact i'd like it if my area did not have snow at all, but then again, Iowa is known for blizzards and lots of snow and I mean lots. One year we had 53 inches of snow. And we got to wondering if spring was ever going to show up.

It's warmed up overnight and all our snow is melting again. What a strange season it's been this year. I'm thankful that I've still been able to take the dog on a walk most days. I'm not usually able to spend this much time outdoors during the winter....

In the meantime, I am thrilled to see our member list growing. emoticon new members! We are glad you're hear and look forward to getting to know you!! emoticon

Yikes, yikes, yikes! Bundle up and stay warm, folks. Once the sun went down yesterday, it got cold mighty quick. I'm hoping for more sunshine today. Then there's the snow in the Seattle area that I wish would disappear...since DD is there driving in it & I don't want to have to worry. In fact, I do the best I can to keep the whole situation out of my mind. (Thus, part of the reason for working on silly Valentine projects even tho it is still January.)

Stay warm & safe my friends!

Wow, Kathleen, that mighty COLD. I shoveled snow today, too, but only because the sun is finally shining. In fact, I stayed inside during the last 2 days while it was bitter cold here and windy. Today feels fairly nice with this sunshine, so I just got back from a walk, too. Puppy was sure happy about that. emoticon

hmmm COLD here too. Most of the week. Expecting rain for the first time since forever. My feet are cold, too. LOL They said that we (Calif) had the driest winter in .... ages. So, if we don't get the rain, we could have a drought. And, there goes my garden. I actually had to water the outside plants, last week!

OH, I gotta go for a walk tho!!! Yippee! With DH, too!!!!!!!

My, we sure have to keep an eye on things.

Back is better. Chiro says I'm at 74%. If I skip a day of stretching, I sure feel it. If I stretch, I sure feel it. ~ sigh~ The good news is that I rarely have to take pain meds. As long as I don't overdo.

Yes, I was informed of this on another team, and took off the fb share today.

I just read something on another team post, and it is important info worth mentioning! SP now has a share button on your blogs. That means that someone who likes your blogs, can click on the Facebook (yes, Facebook) SHARE button. If you DO NOT wish for this to be the case for your blogs, here is what you do....

Go to your EDIT MY SPARK PAGE button. To the right of that color wheel thingy, where it has options, make sure you UNCHECK the option for a SHARE button to be on your blogs. It is the very last box in that list of options. Presto, all should be well again with the world. emoticon

Elisa, I truly hope I didn't cause you panic and that you're just pulling my leg. Sorry about the back pain. Is it getting any better these days?

Did some reading last night and learned all kinds of interesting facts.....since February is heart month, magazines are focusing on that particular subject. I read about a single mom (fairly young) who was out on a date and thought she was having an anxiety attack. Her date wanted to take her to the ER, but she insisted that she should just go home and lay down. Thankfully, he convinced her to go to the ER anyway. Good thing, as she was having a heart attack. Woman don't have the same symptoms that men do for heart attacks. For us, it might mean feeling nauseated, or extremely tired (for no apparent reason), and similar symptoms to an anxiety attack (as mentioned)....also, the symptoms we've heard before...the aching in (either) arm, or feeling like an elephant is on your chest. It's scary to think that the symptoms for women are not as obvious as for men, and can sometimes be ignored (until it's too late.) Take care of yourselves, my friends.

Can a person be to busy?

I was so busy yesterday I did not get a work out in:(
I'd let you know my schedule but I'd hate some one to tell me, put your exercise 1st then go.

I'm busy again today, with a few hours to spare before I'm gone for most of the day:)So I'm planning on a good work out today:)

LNSY you are funny...glad you like snow, as for me, shoot I'd send you mine once I get it. After going into the ditch 2 years ago NO thank YOU. My pore sick van has been in a ditch 2 time now. On the up side YEA for the cardio work out because of the snow right emoticon .

ELISADENK, are you eating for fun, and can I have some emoticon oh yea I think I already did, my bad.

I wish they would let me work from home, but it is not an option...though it should be...I am required to be here from 8-4:30 m-f...grrrr...

I am glad Thursday is here, one more day and then a long weekend! One day of work for me next week and then the rest of it off to be at home!

Brightest Blessings!

I work for the state, processing applications all day...so I sit at a desk and get bored rather quickly...I think it is hard because my focus is all wonky from this perimenopause too...today I have a headache left over from last night, so that is not helping, but my stomach is also a bit mixzed up today as well, so may not eat everything in site. I could look for other work, but I keep hoping that I will be quitting all together soon to stay home with my kids...that goal just seems to keep moving out of reach, even though we keep making posistive changes to our finances.

TES: what do you do for work? My DH was sooo bored at a food place, he ate alot and gained some weight. Can you SP on your phone, that might help. Can you drink instead of eat? Can you look for a different job?

I am not a Monday person, would like them more if I could be the stay-at-home mommy I want to be, but that day is not yet here. So Mondays are a drag.

I will do what I can to continue to track and be mindful of the calories (amount and type) I put into my body, I know I eat way too many normally, but I am so bored at work that I begin to eat mindlessly. SO weekends are better for me...more things to do and more opportunities to be creative.

Brightest Blessings!

Happy Monday, all! OK, maybe Monday isn't so popular....but, I think it gets a bum rap. I like the start of the work week, b/c it means that certain places of business are finally open again, maybe I'll get an actual letter in the mail (instead of just bills), and life seems to get back into it's even routine again. Last week, I actually did get not one, but TWO letters from my DD whose across the country. SO, these brought me big smiles. emoticon

I hope everyone reading this is having a good start to their week. emoticon

Glad you are here, Tes! emoticon

I encourage you to stick it out with logging the foods in that you eat. Guesstimating is ok. (Meaning, if you don't want to enter and evaluate every single food item (b/c you don't see the exact brand), you can choose one that's already in the SP database of foods (items entered by fellow SP members) that seems similar to what you had.

For me, logging my foods was a real eye opener to tell me just how MANY calories I was eating. It made me realize, "no wonder I gained weight". It was what made all the difference in me starting to lose weight, instead of seeing the scale always going UP instead of DOWN.

emoticon Tes,

When I first started tracking my food, it drove me nuts! It was BEYOND boring and tedious for me. I kept thinking of my FIL, who was math major, who worked for IBM computers, creating programs. I thought about getting him involved. He would have loved it.

So, instead, I asked for DH's help. Do you have anyone who could help you keep track, etc.?

LNSY: Glad you are 'normal'! LOL emoticon

Hi, I am new to this team and I must admit I am not one to spend the time logging my calories/food...I find it tedious and boring. I do try to measure my body (thighs, hips, upper arm, etc) but I only do that once a week.

Seems like most of the teams are pretty quiet right now...glad to see there are a couple chat rooms still active.

Yes, Elisa's right. There are some who don't measure anything...most especially the nutrition tracker. So, that's more what that challenge is about....getting ppl in the habit of it.

I guess, there are those Sparkies who don't measure their food nor anything else. Maybe this is a way to encourage them to measure at least ONE thing.

Good for you for measuring everything. Measuring your ** could be a delight or a bummer, depending on if that area shrunk or got larger. LOL emoticon

emoticon , Debby. And, yes, we have caught one mouse so far. I have been doing some scrapbooking in the kitchen, and heard the trap go off the other night. It's in a drawer. I truly didn't think we'd caught one, cuz those lil buggers are smart & quick. BUT, we DID catch one. Earlier this morning, I heard the trap go off again. I don't feel like checking it just yet.

It's back to work and back to the grindstone today for some. DH went back yesterday. DS goes back today. We got a lot done during their time off (flooring tiles, for instance.) Even had a snowstorm here the other night, but things seemed back to normal with that yesterday....as far as driving was concerned.

How has everyone been doing? Joined any of the challenge teams for the new year? I've joined the Official January Jumpstart Workout Challenge Team. Yesterday's exercise video really kicked my butt, too. emoticon emoticon emoticon We have a new team goal added there at the bottom of this page with the other team goals. Plz check it out and consider joining, if you haven't already. emoticon emoticon

DEBBY: Good! in fact, excellent! I'm starting to wear bracelets that I attach meaning to. i.e. I have one bracelet that looks like it's made from colorful, large stones. That bracelet is "TRUST" to me.

I also have a bracelet that has little hearts on it, inside the hearts are little white pearls. That is, "PEACE" to me.

I wear my charm bracelet (that I created, mostly from scratch), when I feel ... flirty.

I don't care anymore if the jewelry doesn't match with the rest of me. I'm making a 'statement' for me.

Speaking of which -- are you going to join our new Challenge?

Elisa, she LOVED it! That was such a good suggestion. THANK YOU!

Nothing worse than a sore back (well, maybe a sore knee... no backs are worse)
I hope you feel better!

Plus, I've noticed that we can only get the 250 SP points for purchasing the 28 Bootcamp DVD from Target.....as that is where the special code comes from. ALSO, incase you're wondering, these are different workouts then what Coach Nicole has on the SP website. Someone has already asked her that question and her reply was that they are all new. I plan to buy this. I just haven't figured out the what and the when, yet.

Way to GO Coach Nicole!

This Christmas, I received a Leslie Sansone Walking DVD, to replace my older video that isn't working well.
Last Christmas, I received the Shaker Weight.

LOL, Is that a hint?? Got 'em from different people. hmmm

OH BTW, we have TWO birthdays today!! :-)

Doing OK, trying to practice what I blog,
How ever when I got up this AM I noticed a difference in my AB's YEA! I do like my AB lounge.

As far as getting back into the swing of this it's slow..............
We did not buy allot of candy for the Christmas stockings, how ever our 25 year old got a few items for Christmas that I love:) and he has shared them with me/us.
My DIL mom came over the 24th & gave us this BIG canister of mixed candy including peanut brittle. Oh I've not had that in years my mom use to make home made when I was little YUM, so yea I'm enjoying it.

Linsey, I'm glad I have boys around my neck of the woods if some thing goes wrong ALL I have to do is say help or they them selves set it up, lol, TV's are a interesting thing now a days. For sure if your kids have games hooked up to them.

The crowds & traffic were TERRIBLE when we went to get the TV yesterday. Of course, we wouldn't have normally been anywhere near a shopping center the day after Christmas....but, DH didn't want to be without a TV. emoticon And, thank goodness, anytime something electronic is involved...DS is close at hand to set us up....teach us what to do. emoticon Our wireless router also had to be replaced, and DS was in charge of finding one for us and hooking it up.

How is everyone else recovering from the holidays?? emoticon I am sore this morning from the crazy Zumba lady last night.....hoping the glucosamine actually starts helping me pretty soon. One thing that I got from having the extra weight these last few years is bad knees. Started taking glucosamine. Hope that kicks in soon.

LNSY: You do lead an interesting life!

I'm hanging in there. Tracked food, did a bit of exercising. That's why my back hurts so much. However, I've GOT to be strengthening it.

Had a nice 'weekend'. I think many people are off today, Monday, b/c Xmas was on Sunday.

Ohhhh, got to make a Return! Think I'm going to wait as long as possible to do it, so I don't have to deal with the crowds.

I hope everyone has been having a good holiday weekend. It's not the weekend anymore, of course, but still feels like it a bit for me....since we went to MILs today for the dessert. That means I survived the huge cheesecake sampler by having only one slice. I chose the most chocolatey looking slice. LOL. emoticon I'm about to go to Zumba here pretty soon, so I don't feel too guilty. Traffic out there was terrible! We had to replace our TV, as the new one that was less than a month old completely died this morning. No clue as to why.

How is everyone else doing?

Good for you LNSY! Backing off some of the stressors, deadline dates, etc. Makes sense.

Refusing to stress about that...(Christmas being in only 6 more days.....) I have a photo/scrapbook page project that I do for my siblings (we are long distance to each other, so that is the extent of our gift exchange....making photo pages for each other)....anyway, I tend to work on those during this time right before (or right AFTER) Christmas. I figure it is nothing that HAS to get there at a certain time.....and, it's one less deadline I make for myself.

emoticon Boadiceag! It's good to have you here. We are all battling one issue or another in our lives on this team, are we not?? That is what this is all about....sharing with each other and helping each other out....whether it be with moral support or with success stories. You will fit right in!
