I was doing that and I wasn't seeing any progress. Weighing every day or every other day at least lets me know it's fluctuating and not just staying the same or going up.

One day I didn't do any exercise, ate what I wanted and lost two pounds. Go figure. LOL

I don't know what cico is. LOL looked it up and "duh" slapping forehead. I've never heard it abbreviated before. Yes, I agree. cal. in and cals out has never worked for me.

You would probably do yourself a favor to only weigh 1x per week at MOST!

Don't forget that C.I.C.O. is a very "broken" way of viewing the biology & metabolism that happens in the body's systems!

Whoa, I've never heard of chiro effecting menstrual cycle. So crazy and yet amazing too. Our bodies are such a mystery. thank you for the links!!!! I really appreciate you sharing them.

Super frustrated with my body gaining and losing the same stupid two pounds. The only thing I did differently yesterday was eat an apple and almond butter for breakfast instead of a huge dinner meal.

Already got my 40 min of exercise in this morning and need to drive into town for errands.

SOOOOO glad it's Friday! This week has kicked my butt.

Hope you have a great weekend.

That's interesting about your mom... I've been seeing an acupuncturist for almost 2 yrs now. She's the one who has worked w/ me regarding the effects of stress. Here's a link of her topics... She is very practical & helpful!

whitephoenix.org/articles/

Believe it or now, I had a chiropractic "treatment" one year ago that STOPPED my cycle for 6 months! -- When I started back to work last Fall (now that my kids are grown), my blood pressure went "high" and the bleeding resumed. Hard to truly say now, what causes what?!?!?

Here's a reputable site speaking to the connection of stress & weight gain:

Here's hoping you have a wonderful weekend!

Our health system is terribly broken. With the sonohysterography what will you do with the results? I didn't even know what that was, I had to look it up. I also didn't know that hysterectomies aren't as common any more.

So sorry to hear you had to go to the ER for hemorrhaging. That must have been scary.

My mom said she had accupuncture in her 50's that got her period started back up. I've never had acupuncture and not sure I should do it.

You know three years ago if someone had told me that you could gain weight through stress, I never would have believed it.

I totally "hear" you about the stupid weight being tied in to stress. I know that (crazy stress) is when my body went all haywire with its hormones.

So, now I have a procedure ordered for Monday. It is called: sonohysterography. You wouldn't believe the trouble I've had getting the medical office to make this happen! (Started the hassle back in Nov. 2016.) -- Since this season of life often brings either missed cycles or irregular ones, I'm supposed to call on Day #1 and fit into 1 available appt. slot.

Finally, I'm "in play" to at least get input for what's causing extreme bleeding. (ER / 2 days of hemorrhaging.) Not a good long-term situation.

After the test on Monday, then I can sit down w/ an OB/GYN and discuss options and possibilities. Since I'm 55, it isn't like I "need" my uterus anymore. However, it would seem that hysterectomies are no longer "commonly done" and are considered an invasive procedure?! Seemed like it was "common" during my mom's era...

My life has been really stressful for
The past three years and that's when I became irregular. Before
That it was like clockwork. It's also when I gained this stupid weight.
I miss my flat stomach but not the monthly. I am in my late 40's and I also started my monthly in preteen

If you are anywhere in your 40's, it IS possible!

I read recently that there is only ONE day of menopause. It happens on day #366 (unless a leap year!) or 12 months emoticon
after your LAST cycle. Following that "magic" day, you would then be considered post-menopausal! Before that day, one is said to be peri-menopausal. Go figure!?!?

I'm not positive, but a couple of months I think. The last one was pretty heavy and I've actually been a little glad I haven't had to deal with it. That being said, I think I'm probably too young for this to be happening. I'm not sure. emoticon

I don't think a few spots in March counted, but a bit more now (April). Dec. 7th was my last major flow date. But it does seem to be slowing down, finally. -- Obviously, STILL counting.....
emoticon
UPDATE:
Boy was I WRONG. emoticon
2 full weeks of Aunt Flo, first 2 weeks of April. Then 2 weeks later, and here I go again. Only this time: hemorrhaging so much by day 5, ended up in ER. Outcome: go see your Dr. for further testing. So SuperPlus tampon + pad every hour.

They think a polyp is bleeding... (Are we having fun yet?!?)

I've not had anyone recommend additional vit.C. That is easy to add in! -- Yes, my chiropractor DID say the adrenals were tied into the "mix" of things. I'll investigate adding in more "C". -- But I honestly had thought I was on the way to being DONE. So I wasn't expecting it all to start up again.

My part-time substitute teaching job seems to have fired up my adrenals this Fall. (I've had some really bad days dealing w/ some awful kids / NO respect & no regard for any form of authority.) -- Trying to figure out options for income that doesn't compromise my health...

BERRY - just a suggestion - could it be that your adrenals are on overdrive (compensating for the ovaries slowing down) and using up your vitamin C reserves? Have you tried taking extra vit C or eating more vit C rich foods before or during those crucial days?

woohoo, skipped one month!!! Starting to count again for the nth time. Even though the most I have skipped is 2 months in a row, I always get excited and hopeful when I miss again. 11 to go LOL

I realize I have been at this a lot less than some of you ladies, it feels good to share and to know I'm not alone.

The TOM from hell arrived mildly on Wed. I then hemorrhaged for 7+ hrs on Thurs. with NOTHING stopping the flow. It continued off & on into Fri. I saw 2 different drs Thurs. PM. A bunch of tests have been ordered. My adrenals seem to be churning out the cortisol & my gut is all twisted up. I'm afraid to take ibuprofen for the pain & cramping due to the continued bleeding (it thins the blood).

2 of the last 5 nights have been very light on any sleep. Work continues to be very stressful & I'm about one tick away from a hormonal "bomb" exploding over the littlest thing. (Don't get too close!)

Somebody, some where said: "This too will pass??????????????"

Since my teen daughter accuses me of the whole female thing... this time I get to "blame" her! -- TOM visited her last month (Sept) & then 2 wks later started up again. But she said it quit...she gave it to me!

The one in March was my last one. After that my hot flashes, etc., changed drastically, totally different than before. I'm guessing it signals a major hormonal change, so maybe that WILL be the last one! I hope so.

Hey Elisa - Your post has really had me thinking these past few days and there may be something to what you are saying. I've been trying to get more sleep for the past two weeks which meant that I was not exercising as much or with as much intensity. I have also been going out to eat more. When I look at my weigh-in calendar, I notice that the weight gain started over the two week period where I was not exercising as much and the spikes in weight gain appeared on days that I ate out. So....instead of making up excuses as to why I'm gaining weight, I need to take responsibility and do what I know I need to do to keep my weight down - and me feeling healthy! Thanks for the wake-up post. I will let you know how things go with this new mindset :)

I just read my post below and this one will be a repeat -- UGH - I keep gaining weight!!! My period is 47 days late - the first 40 days I was just fine (except for those darn hot flashes) now I've been putting on a 1/2 lb of weight every night for the past week!!! I track my food intake so I know that I have not been eating that far (it at all) outside of my calorie range. I guess I just have to keep in mind that my body is going through changes right now. UGH!!!

You were right about noting typical "start pt". Instead of 26 days, this one went 47 and then showed up in FULL force. Sigh... (And yes, keeping protection available.)

May of last year was my last TOM. However, I have gone this long before only to have it start up again for 6-8 months. Will be sooooooooo happy when I don't have to deal with this anymore.

Yes you can!

Yep! You are in Mystery-land. Always keep 'protection' with you. But mark your typical start point.

The body will do what the body will do!
However, with that said, unless you are taking in at least 1700-2000 calories each and every day, ABOVE what you need (meaning "in excess"), then you have NOT gained 1/2 lb of fat weight.

The fluids that support all of our bodily functions (not to mention those HORMONES), will fluctuate and vary more than we care, but nevertheless, your body is trying to achieve HOMEOSTASIS and it would seem that this season of life makes that process somewhat challenging and/or difficult.

Ugh!!! That TOM is now 24 days late!!! This last week I have become really bloated and putting on a half pound of weight each day! This sucks!!! I wear a panty liner everyday just hoping my period will start one of these days. This is the first time since my period started that I missed a month. I guess I am officially in peri-menopause!! Okay - so if I am really careful with my food choices and intake, up my water intake and start exercising more - can I control this weight gain???

* I can't wear pads every day. Not enough air flow which sets up another whole range of problems.
* I had a biopsy done of a small adhesion on my cervix several years ago. That set up it's own interruption of my body hormonal balance & caused unexplained bleeding several times + exceedingly heavy flow w/ clotting, etc. It took several months of supplementation before it all got back under control.

* As you said, there was a "before" normal, and a now "new" normal (??!). -- I was a "late" bloomer in MANY regards. Didn't start a cycle until age 14. Didn't have children until age 31 ...and then had 3, and I'm 53 1/2 and still having a cycle every month.

* Some day...............................?!

My cycles had gone out to as long as 36 days between cycles, after being at 28 days like clockwork for years and years, but this month, it was 29 days, which I'm thinking had something to do with the endometrial biopsy I had last week. I was spotting from that for three days, and then the flow picked up to a period flow, so although I didn't expect to have started for another week, I guess my body had other ideas this month.

I just wear pads every day, just in case whether I'm bleeding or not. That way I don't have to think about it, and if I feel something start up, I can get to the bathroom without clothes getting stained or bleeding through to a chair or something.

I should invest in maxi pad companies. They're making a fortune off of me right now, and I bet their stock is soaring. emoticon

I started my cycles when I was 10 years old, and I was told I was in perimenopause at 38. I'm 43 now, and I hope every month that I won't have to wait until mid 50's or whatever to enter true final menopause. I just want these periods to be gone. My doctors keep telling me, "Oh, you've got a looooooong time to wait", but I'm hoping they are wrong. emoticon

I spoke with a friend who turned 60 this year. She also has been an "older" mom. Her youngest of 2 just graduated HS this month. When she found out I was still on a monthly cycle, she felt so bad & at least a few more things made sense to her. (ie. my hormonal roller coaster, my "witchy" behavior at times, my inability to deal w/ this heat & obnoxious customers, ETC)

How do I keep track? For me, the cycle is still within 26-31 days. So I X out a corner of the calendar and track from month to month. (I don't much like "surprises"!)

I have to start counting all over again.

I think MIL's passing stressed out my cycle.

So, I'm posting here because I will remember the date a year from now.

How does everyone else remember these things?

I'm beginning to feel like a young teen with all the "start-up" issues and stop/starts and wondering if/when, ETC. TOM started lightly on Sat. but then I was clear for a night & a day. I went to a workout on Mon. During the session I started to "gush" and went through everything I had on. Talk about embarrassing!!!! (DD who is 16 remarked, "I hope the trainer was female!") -- I had a change of clothes for some of it and ended up having to wrap paper towel on underwear to absorb the overflow.

ELISA...I am not taking anything, and in re-reading my post I should have added that I am managing most of my symptoms through diet.

Wow...it all lines up...ok so on 2/14 of this year I stopped eating refined sugar and a couple months before the hot flashes began I stopped eating all artificial sweeteners and high fructose corn syrup. My TOMs have gotten super short with horrific cramping since I stopped eating refined sugar. And quitting my huge diet coke habit was right before the soaking wet nights began. Oh and one more thing, I joined the Tame my Sweet Tooth challenge and the biggest reason for me to Tame that Tooth is for continued relief from the flaming depths of a hot flash.

Oh, and I have thrown out/donated all clothing that is less than 90% cotton. And for the very first time in my entire life, despite my deep hatred for them, I am showing off my bat-wings with tank tops. Cotton tank tops with cotton overshirts...

Now, I get less than one hot flash a day, but I can't say I don't get less than seven a week.

You mentioned the cream in a spark mail...I am going to look into that... emoticon emoticon

P.S. I eat maple syrup, honey and coconut sugar when I need to add sweetness and I don't buy anything with added sugar...mostly, I mean darn sugar is in everything.

Working on being Zen, in the meantime, please call me Susan.

For over a decade, my TOM was accompanied with heavy mid-month spotting. My TOM was the entire month, at least it felt like it.

Last spring, the night sweats and hot flushing of "flashes"started but the heavy spotting disappeared. My TOMs became way shorter... emoticon emoticon

The last two months, Aunt Flo has shown up without ANY warning! I cramp like a mutha, and then Flo just disappears.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon ...let this be the beginning of the end!
