Yes a good friend - who was a bit reluctant as she has a "funny" tummy anyway; had lots of IBS symptoms which is why I thought it might help her - had a violent attack of wind andů This put her right off which is a shame. I had told her to sip the small glass over the day but she misheard and drank it all right off. Sadly she isn't prepared to try again.

Yes, I'd definitely say that you're having a reaction, so cut right down on your intake until the reactions subside. I was lucky in that I've had no adverse reactions in the many years I've been drinking KT and milk kefir, but I guess some people can go through an unpleasant detoxifying process as their body adjusts. I'd also make sure you drink plenty of clean water after, to help the 'flushing' process.

Anyone else have a reaction? Did it improve?

Do you think you might be drinking too much of a new brew to start? I was told not to have more than half a wine glass per day to start. It is powerful stuff but you should not get this sort of reaction. I still only have one glass a day. That is of the actual kombucha. I mix it with fruit juice if I want a longer drink.

Have you thought of trying them with different types of drinks? Green tea, or herbal tea? I saw where somebody was trying one with coffee....

I have just started and sadly I am having an awful reaction to my kombucha (no reaction to the GT raw kombucha so not sure what is going on) and the extra scobies I have had I have given away.

It tastes amazing and fizzy, but the headache and facial burning that instantly comes is more then I really want to deal with

I agree - an experiment too far! I am making lots of chutney with the vinegar and it is beautifully rounded. i wish I could find something to test the range of acidity - I can for the drink but the wine making strips only go down to 2.5 and I think vinegar, if it is to preserve, needs to be at 5.00. I have a mountain of cucumbers this year and would like to pickle them. But this is another subject and nothing to do with "mothers" so apologies in advance!

There are a million and one uses, so I hear- some like to cut them into strips, then slowly dry them out in the oven, before coating them in whatever and eating them, a bit like jerky!
I don't feel that brave right now... :)

I have a bit of a glut of mothers. I have offered them on freecycle but not enough people round here are interested. I would love to hear what others have done with spares. I have used a bit on a cut one of the dogs got which took ages to heal and it seemed to help. At least it stopped him worrying at it. I have planted them underneath my runner beans and French beans and even put a chunk under some courgettes I grew in a pot this year but not sure if they made a great deal of difference. Otherwise they sit in a large sweetie jar making more and more beautiful scobies or go on the compost when I run out of space. I did see the You Tube of the girl who make clothes out of K scobies but they could not go out in the rain!
