Sad there was not answer from Rebecca as I'd love to know if there should be a limit to the amount of kefir one drinks/eats. If I have a glut - been away or something - I make cheese balls and they are very more-ish but on the whole I stick to my half pint or so on my cereal in the morning. I have to make more now as my two black labs and one of the cats queue up for their share every day. The other cat doesn't want to know...

So, Rebecca, a few more weeks into fermenting- how goes it? Have the symptoms eased at all, or did you reduce/remove the kefir from your routine?

I used to drink tons of kefir, but it was years ago, when I was at school. Well, kefir in my country is available in every store, big and small. Cheap source of valuable protein.College students drink a lot of this stuff. It is usually between 1 and 2 % of fat.
I don't drink it anymore, because if i eat dairy in any form I am unable to lose any weight and my appetite ( already very good) increases.

Never thought about taking it in smaller amounts - the kombucha, I was told to start small, but I figured the kefir was like yogurt and I eat lots of that. I will cut down on the kefir. I use it in my smoothies and baking other things. My daughter started it with 3% milk, I think I will cut it back to 1% milk, that might help too.

As with all fermented foods, I'd recommend you work slowly and carefully towards a full quota of Kefir- after all, if you're new to it, your gut will be in shock with all the new bacterias and yeasts that are bombarding it! I drink just less than half a pint in a smoothie each morning, but It took me a few months before I was used to it. Before that, I had been drinking kombucha for at least 3/4 years, so my body had started to be colonised.

when you say "a lot of kefir" how much is that? I am not sure how many calories are in kefir but I image much the same as in liquid yoghurt so it is unlikely to be calories. Do you add anything to it? I suppose it is possible you might be having a reaction to the milk element...

So I have been gaining weight the last few months - I haven't really changed anything in diet or exercise, I was maintaining the weight and not losing before.
Now I feel bloated all the time and just not well.
The only thing I can think of is that I am drinking and using a lot of kefir. Is it possible I am having too much kefir?
