Hi!
There are two copies in the US, but I'm not sure if the recipients are still active members of the group- if they're reading this, please get in touch!! :)

You are of course quite correct Paul and I wish the retentive gene had been omitted from my makeup! I am a great recycler and it is only the existence of groups like Freecycle that allow me to get rid of almost anything. Now I wonder if Kombucha will cure a built in hoarding instinct?

New books!
I tend to buy them when I see them. I'm happy to share any I have, and am not worried if I never see them again, as long as they are being passed on, not sitting on a shelf. I put a message in the front of each before they went, and am hoping all the subsequent 'owners' have done the same. Books should be kept alive!

I have just checked abebooks.co.uk and they have at least three of the Bartholomew's book at 60p each plus postage of about £2.60 . Well worth getting at this price. When I got to the home page of the site I just put in the word "Kombucha" and quite a few different titles came up.

Well... I can never resist a good book... however it looks like anyone who had/has a copy is on hiatus from SparkPeople, LOL! I loved the concept of sharing the books this way, BTW... hard to manage though, I guess.

I did some snooping on Amazon (they often have good copies of out of print or obscure books used for pennies), and found 7 copies for under $20 (if I've got the right book):

Kombucha Tea for Your Health and Healing: The Most In-Depth Guide Available by Alick Bartholomew & Mari Bartholomew

Here are two other books for which the reviews are very positive:

Kombucha!: The Amazing Probiotic Tea that Cleanses, Heals, Energizes, and Detoxifies by Eric Childs & Jessica Childs

...this book goes has recipes uisng kombucha, and gets into uses for it beyond drinking (cosmetics, anyone?)

Kombucha Rediscovered! Revised Edition by Klaus Kaufman www.amazon.com/Kombucha-Rediscovered

I just picked up all three books for $20 on amazon.ca!

I'll have them by the end of next week... I'll check back and let you know what I think of them, if anyone is interested.

It's worth looking in Charity shops- are they 'thrift shops in the US?- for books- I've since found another KT book, but can't remember the title or author as I have lent it out to a friend here in Nottm. There's a huge amount online, though, and a great place is Facebook- I've joined at least three groups to feed my fermenting obsession. :)

Thank you for responding. I am in the beginning stages. I love KT. I was able to get some at one of my local supermarkets.

I didn't have one of the four - I got mine on Abebooks.co.uk but I am loathe to let it go because it is my ammunition when my family and friends think I am dotty to have such faith in KT's benefits. Also I use it for the recipes for creams and potions, all of which I find very beneficial. In fact I have got a couple of people to try - and continue - with KT because of the book. However, looking at the vast quantity of books on my shelves - on all subjects - I know I am horribly retentive so if anyone in the UK needs a copy to browse and cannot find one…..

So, I just remembered about our exclusive 'book lend' scheme on these books! I still have one copy of the book that I'd like to keep for now, but does anyone know where in the world the others are?
If you have one, are you in a position to forward it to another member in need?
Are you a KK&FF member that would like this book to loan?
I sent at least 4 of the books out around the world, but this thread has lain dormant for a while, now, so I feel it's about time we re-energised it and passed the books along a step!
Post on here if you have or would like to have the book.

Cool, thanks Rachel- I have a copy to send, but I'm happy for one of the other team copies in the US to pass along the chain- please, by the way, could everyone possessing one, leave a message in the inside cover, or notes on the pages, or little surprises for the subsequent 'owners' to find!

Enjoy!

Hey Wings!!!! Nice seeing you over on this team. I hope you have been well. I have a copy that I can send you. I am not sure if I have your address anymore so you can send it through sparkmail if you'd like the book. I won't be back home until later this week, so I can send it out later this week or early next week.

yes, the Bartholomews are the authors. It is a very well written book, and if the price seems reasonable, I do suggest you get it! An easy read, informative, and encouraging. Like you, I also need to hold onto certain books and revisit them to be sure I understood everything!

Is the book by Mari and Alick Bartholomew? Published by Gateway? I see it on abebooks and if there isn't one spare in the team I'll see if I can get it. I love the idea of sharing books and shall have a look through my shelves. Only snag is they would stay with me for an age as I take a while to absorb the details.

Windy just let me know the book arrived safely and is being eagerly read!

If there are any other books you may have that you don't mind sharing amongst the team, please post on here- I never charge for postage or costs as I hope one day to have the favour returned, but please don't worry if you have to recoup costs, just as long as it's stated in your post.

So, get those books off those dusty shelves and into someone elses' eager hands!

Hello Litelenjin!

I'd be delighted to send you the book- it probably won't be until the weekend as I have a pretty heavy work schedule this week, but it WILL get there!

I'd suggest you start with the kombucha and take your time with it- it's all about routine and persistence, I find. Kefir is so easy, though, and almost instant!

So, thanks for sending your address- could you give me your 'real name', too, please?

Welcome to the loveliest team on Spark!

Paul

Hi Paul!
Yesterday I got a SCOBY and started (I hope!) brewing kombucha! I am SO excited! I'd like to find out about kefir, too. Anyway, if you have a book left, I would LOVE to read it, and then pass along! I'll send you an email with my shipping info!
THANK YOU!

I have just been given my sister's copy of this book, so if anyone wants to 'own' it, with the promise that it will be ultimately passed on to someone else- see previous posts on this thread- then let me know!

I'll re-state here that an ambition of mine for this team has always been to have a 'forever mobile' library of books and information that travels the world to wherever it's needed, so if you find any books, or have copies of books you think would be useful, please post on here and we can get them flying!

I'm happy to send things at no cost to the recipient, as long as that person is happy to forward the book to someone else in a similar style- I do this with kefir and kombucha starters and it just feels right- so, as far as I remember, there are 2, maybe 3 Kombucha books in the USA and 1 in Greece? Or did it reach Israel?

I'm not too worried where they are, as long as they are in use and well annotated and 'messaged' by the people who have touched them!

So, if you'd like a copy, or have one ready to send out, please post here and we'll try to match you up with the copy closest to you.

The books are always available!

Unfortunately I miscalculated.... I only have one copy left and will need it as backup for an exciting project I'll tell you all about when I have more details.

Would any of the other book holders be able to forward their copy, please? If not, mine will certainly be available by the end of February.

If you need any specific information in the meantime, there are some great links on the team site or we should be able to answer anything you want to know.

Paul

Edited to add: Just had a thought- I gave my sister a copy and she's not using it right now, so if I can get her copy I will be clear to send this one!

As you know if you've been reading my blog entries, my friend Graham used to run a teas and coffee shop before he fell ill with Cancer and unfortunately succumbed, recently. Since then, his family have been clearing the stock from the shop and I went down again to look thro what was left.

The Kombucha book that I recently sent on its educational way to Rachel was only one copy of four that were in the shop, all vastly reduced in price, and so, this weekend, I bought the remaining three for £3 each!

SO, if anyone wants one, either to borrow or buy from me, I'm happy to send them- either way, I'm happy for them to go to good homes.

Please let me know- I'm happy to hold onto them until a new team member comes along and needs information, but I thought I'd throw it out to the old team first!

Waddya think?
