I know this is late, but it seems like you are doing too much way to soon? You said you are doing a 5K every other day? Most running programs have you build up to a 5K in 9 weeks time.
I would think do less mileage.
When I was training for a 1/2 using the Jeff Galloway program, I was not running as slow as I was supposed to, so the mileage increase over 8 miles gave me compression issues in my knees. So when I go to try again, when it gets close to 6 miles, I'll increase a little every week instead of every other week increasing a lot.

Hello! Hope the running shoes helps, but if not...I had experienced IT band issues and after getting the rights shoes (Great advice!) that was helpful, BUT slowly I started feeling pain again. So I started wearing a band under my knee. Got this at the local sporting goods store, approx. $12, the package says "Jumper Knee Brace" but on the back it calls out for running too (a runner told me about these as well). I wear one on each knee. You can check out my spark page, you'll see in the picture. Not the most fashionable, but it works and I don't want to deal with knee issues. I now know I can run up to 6miles without, but once I go past that point I get the pain if I don't wear them. Best of Luck!

Hi , I started running about 2 weeks ago running for 3 and walking for 2 and am doing about 5k every other day but the last couple of time I am having terrible pains in my knees:( Did anyone else have this problem?
