Well the 5k wasn't meant to be. DH got sick. Very VERY sick Friday night. :( At 3am we decided I'd go alone. At 5 am we decided he wasn't fit to watch Braden so I wouldn't go at all. And at 7am we went to the ER. He's all better now (food poisoning) so I'll be looking for a new 5k. What a first Mother's Day weekend!!!! *lol*

Thank you all for the advice and good lucks!

I totally agree with LIGHTNINGRUNNER... Don't go out too fast. Sometimes we are influenced by the other runners, and the excitement of the race start.

If this is your first race, I think your goal should be just to finish the race and enjoy it!!

Good luck!!

I responded to you on another page, but I will attempt to do it again.

Eating: Don't eat anything new either the night before or morning of. Eat something small the morning before the race so you will have some fuel.

Racing - Try to run at least one time this week in the morning - close to race time if possible, so your body will understand what you are asking it to do race morning.

Finish Strong - Don't go out to fast, be very very conscious of this - you can always get faster towards the end...

I usually wake up 2-3hrs earlier and eat a banana - I can't run with anything too heavy in my stomach, so this works out for me. For my last 5k, I also had half a GU packet about 15min before the race started. Good luck on your 5k - let us know how it goes!! emoticon

I'm running my first 5k on Saturday. The farthest I have ran is 3 miles. I've done that twice. The other times I've attempted it has been too hot and I ended up walking the second half. This race is in the morning so it should be in the 50s or 60s instead of the 80s or 90s. Anyway, I'm not worried about finishing but I am curious about finishing strong. What should I eat the day before and that morning? Is there anything specific I can do to fuel my body the best? I currently run in the evenings. I haven't eaten in a few hours by then.
