10 miles there will still be people walking and running it. Just make sure you can get to a 10K before the race - you can power through 3.8 more miles...

Most definitely there are people who will totally walk the 10K, some who will run and walk with Galloway's method...some who will run until they can't anymore and then walk. You will see all types.

As for coming in last...you beat the person who didn't get off the couch...You are a winner if you finish.

Really? Do you think even for a 10k people will be walking? I just don't want to come in last.

Don't worry about it. If you feel tired, just walk a bit until you feel better, and then start running/jogging again. You will see other people doing the same...

Thanks for all the tips! I just found out it's actually 10 miles not 10k!! My coworker had told me it was 10k. My goal is to just finish it somehow but now I'm having doubts about 10miles..

Personally, I love the Spark your way to 10K, I modified it a bit to fit where I started, but I thought it ramped up nicely. I will be returning to C25K and then Spark 10K later this year after rehab.

As everyone has stated, your first race - drink it all in the atmosphere, excitement, etc. You will never have a first race again. No shame in going slow - any time at a new distance your goal should be to finish the race, upright with a smile on your face saying I want to race that distance again.

I agree with ANTHONYF, your goal for this first race must be just to complete the race and enjoy it!!

Good luck!!

I think the spark program is good, especially if you are new to running.
When you ask how long, do you mean the actual race? It can take up to 1hr 20 minutes. But don't worry about it for your first race. Just have fun!

The spark your way to a 10k looks good. I´m following a program from www.runnersworld.com, as I did not know about the one at sparkpeople. The advantage of the runnersworld is taht you can customize it for your current times, current milleage per week and number of weeks you want to train.

Good luck!!

Hi there. What do you all recommend for training for a 10k. It's in May so I have about 12 more weeks. I'm doing the spark your way to a 10k and I'm on week 2. Do you think this is the best program? Ideally, how long will it take to run a 10k? Thanks!
