A gloomy day here in NE Montana, but fairly warm (40F) and calm, so except for no sunshine, not too bad a day. I need to go out and get my yard stuff stowed for the winter as we have a blast of it coming this week. Supposed to be to -15F by Wednesday night...

Hello out there. Winter is on its way here in NE MT. It's a cold, wet, miserable day, so it's time to work inside and do some Spark planning. Time to figure out meals for the week and prepare ahead whatever can be done.

Have a good day!

Yeah! I don't have to travel now until the 12th and I have had time to get new arch supports ordered. I am anxiously waiting for them to come in. I have tried several kinds of arch supports and seem to keep having issues with hip, knees and back. I hope this is the end of being derailed.

Thanks Lynne, I have to confess thou that the last two weeks all I have managed to do was sleep go to the office and sleep again. Big training classes can get that way. All you want to eat if at all is soup and yogurt. I managed to gain two pounds. This spring has not be kind to me with all of the travel for work.

on the bright side, I get to sleep in my own bed now for two weeks before the insanity begins again.

I just found out that I will be working out of town for another 6 weeks minimum again. That puts me to sometime in August. Found out that the hotel has free passes to 24 hour fitness so I made sure to throw in my earphones for the tv's cuz that has been my hangout spot for the past few weeks. All I can say is that YES, the economy is bouncing back.

Just bouncing in to see how everyone is doing...I visited a couple pages this morning of folk I haven't chatted with in a while..great to see that several are having successes of all degrees! Keep at it...it pays off...weight loss...running...smarter eating....and you are motivating others to follow your footsteps! If you didn't have a passion before, maybe you found it in helping others achieve their health goals!

That is the good thing about traveling so much lately for work. I at least don't have an excuse to not get my work out in first thing in the am. I must be doing something wrong thou as I seem to be gaining instead of loosing. I have even been getting yogurt, fruit and healthy choice steamers to eat. I just don't get it.

I feel the same way. If I don't get my workout in in the morning, I am less likely to get it in later. It is usually the first thing I do every day. I even get up at 4AM to workout when I have an early shift like today. Works for me.

Where is everyone these days? I have been trying to stay on track when traveling for work. It works a lot better to work out in the am. I have noticed that if I do my workout in the evening it seems to impact the quality of sleep I get.

yes, I gave it up for a few days. Then the weather got cold again and I had a cup of cream with a little coffee!!!! emoticon

I really have to measure out 3 or 4 Tbs. per 2 cups at 15 calories each Tbs. But, it is not healthy, so it is on my list of saying,"Good-Bye".

Were you as shocked as I was about the amount? I was drinking 4 to 6 tbsp of creamer 5 times a week! Yikes! And have you ever read the ingredients list to creamer? That has made me second guess my usage too.

Hi Fae, I thought that was so funny, you listed what I started doing this week. I realized I was using way too much coffee creamer. So, I started to measure out how many Tbs I actually use, and have managed to cut back and save many calories.

Hope you have a good weigh-in! emoticon

I am having a good day on food so far. I decided to drop the extra calories from creamer for my coffee and butter for my oatmeal. Food journaling really helps me to see the unnecessary calories I've been eating. Tomorrow is my official weigh-in for myself. Can't wait to see how my first week has gone!

Hi Lynne,

I can only get on Spark at home. Just got the word that I have about 1 week's break before I start another 5 week class. Keeping my fingers crossed that it will be here in my "home" office. Not that traveling for 5 weeks and hoteling isn't fun but it sure gets old.

The dog even starts blocking the back door so I can't get out of the house. That didn't work so she tried to get into the rental car to go with me. At least with the hotel thing I don't have to travel across town to get to a gym.

I have been getting up earlier to work out and also walking after work. It seems to help with the stress of "being on" on all of the time. You are just worn out with the overtime it takes to keep up with the participants.

I have been reading the G index diet and also the insulin resistance diet to see what I need to change.

I sadly have been slacking, I started another 5 week class at work right after the previous one (I am whining here) with no break in between for prep. Needless to say that I am wiped out when I get home and fortunate for me I have been doing weights, stability ball and tubing in the am. The bonus is that this class is in my home office so no hotel!! Yippe!!!!!

Sites I have been getting help from is Cardio Bunnies and The South Dakota Team. (I am eagerly waiting til the snow melts so I can walk outside without falling on my backside).

I went to the Rec yesterday and omg that exercise room at the hotel has something to answer for. It is like I hadn't been working out for the last 5 weeks. I know that I was though!

Any by the way, I do find this site encouraging. So I do take some responsibility for it being silent with the reason that my "other life" has been over shadowing this one. I have been still trying to keep the goal in mind. I just have been busy else where.

Hang in there Eva, one more week!

I've had a bad day yesterday - my shopping trip for my Mother of the Bride dress turned into a really depressing experience...nothing fit...feeling pretty lousy right now.

Also, our annual audit is underway at work (Auditors reviewing all my work for Year End)so that's rather stressful. And I'm in the middle of another scintillating government administration course, I have a big essay due right before we leave for my daughter's wedding in 5 weeks. And my husband's truck broke down, so he had to get the engine rebuilt (it's a V10 cube van) which cost us $9000. Lovely timing of it all.

Sorry I'm a negative nelly today. Somedays you're the windshield, somedays you're the bug...

We had our computer fixed over this last week. Add that to the fact that I am still traveling for work and I am waaaay behind. I am happy to announce that I have just 1 more week of travel before I have at least a 5 week break.

I have another class starting up so I am mentally working on the next action plan to wiggle back into my routine. I have a feeling I am gonna need the stress relief with it as well.

Hi LoloB, That is just what I have learned, one day at a time.

Then a small change becomes a natural habit.

It will be fun to look back and see how far we have all come.

Where is everyone! Maybe there would be a better response if this was a main topic.
I would love to hear from more spark friends.

Hello wonderful team leader, Cal,

Giving up the diet soda!!!!! Big, huge life change!

You said it perfectly: building the foundation.

I still am looking forward to losing weight. But, I am not the same person I was when I joined Sparkpeople.

My life is different, everything has changed. The way I look at food and exercise. It is an everyday learning process with ups and downs.

Thank-you Spark friends, lynne emoticon

Well hello quiet team...I have been on "vacation" for a couple of weeks, and limited my spark people time...

Lynnie, I have been on Spark for about 1.3 years now and even though I have made some very positive strides, I still occassionally will crave the fries and brownies and....on and on...and I will succumb from time to time, but it is the exception and not the rule! That is a far cry from when I started!

my most positive food moment so far is eliminating all soda from my diet....and I was a diet pepsi addict! I think I have been "clean" for about 5 months now! LOL...I sound like I had a much bigger issue, but it was an addiction nonetheless!

We just need to build the foundation for our success, change some habits, and the rest will come....you'll see! emoticon

Up until recently I have been pretty consistent. I have been traveling for work and have been in a hotel 4 nights a week. I have been getting fruit, yogurt and healthy choice steamers to eat at lunch and dinner. I have noticed that I feel better from having the greasy fries and burgers. It also keeps the expense reports looking low to the point that they ask if I am really eating or not.

So, it has been 5 months. I have been on track, off track, on track, off track. My record is 10 days.

I am looking forward to the weeks I just live a healthy state of mind and eating, AND it just feels natural. And there is NO desire to eat something not good for me.

Ok, This was the drama of the week last week. When I went to leave the office for the hotel for the night the darn car wouldn't start. I was 2 days without a car and had to wander into the restaurant world vs getting to the grocery store for the healthy choice steamers. I could feel the difference on how I felt. I am such a non-fast food person. At least I got my cardio time in!

I am patting myself on the back. Last week while traveling I had a microwave and small frig in the hotel room. I went to the grocery store daily to pick up fruit, yogurt and healthy choice steamers. I felt so much better than in the past when I used to eat fast food. The equipment in the exercise room were less than desired but I made it work.

Will be traveling again this week so will see if I can keep it up.

I know Mini Wheats have processed sugar, but they and raisin bran are good for fiber content and tasty! Plus if there are Trader Joes around you, excellent variety of healthier alternatives and NOT expensive at all! Give em a try.

It is supposed to rain here in Cali all week...blah....the treadmill and I are about to get reacquainted!

Off to see Avatar today! Hope it is worth the hype!

I like the Special K blueberry as well. I haven't tried it yet but a friend said that the blueberry is great with yogurt and fruit.

I am totally hooked on the homemade fruit and yogurt parfait.

I really like the Fiber One Caramel Crunch emoticon it has 35% fiber I think, the ones with more fiber make my tummy rumble emoticon . My latest fave cereal is the Special K Blueberry. Very satisfying, and only 100 calories.

We have Fiber One cereals in South Dakota that have over 51% of recommended fiber servings. Some flavors even have 57%. I will have to check to see as I don't remember the brand name that you mentioned. Thanks

We just have it at the regular grocery stores. I just looked it up - it's made by Smuckers of Canada. Sorry didn't think of that when I posted. If you have Smuckers in the US they might distribute a US version? not sure...

Hi Eva! Have you ever tried Red River Cereal? It's a cooked cereal with lots of flax and seeds. I make a batch for 4 in the microwave, then put the remainder in the fridge & eat it during the week - heated up in the micro again (add a bit of water). I like it because it is quite filling & keeps the growling away. 150 cal & 6g protein per cup. (Plus I add a bit of brown sugar & milk) Anyways, that's my 2 cents ... Linda

Thanks Jan, I have been fighting the tummy rumbles this past week so have been slacking a bit. I have been trying to pay more attention to the amount of fiber, protein and fat. I even changed my cereal to a high fiber one.

I've been stuck at the same weight since before Christmas - finally the scale moved! emoticon whew! Hope it keeps moving. Last week I joined the gym (finally), so have started a streak, trying to alternate strength & cardio days for 6 days a week. (3 days at the gym, 3 days cardio at home) Hope I can keep it up with my schedule!

Hope everyone is over all their flus/colds & getting back on track after the holidays. I'm thankful that this SP class is still posting - it's nice to see posts from others who started at the same time. Linda

emoticon The holidays and then a bout with the flu, putting me in bed for a week, has sabotaged my progress. A pound gained and a few inches showed up on my tracker! Oh well, it is back to the treadmill and nutrition tracker. I guess setbacks have to be expected but it certainly is discouraging! Hopefully, next weeks' weigh-in will show some improvement! Happy New Year! I have been trying to come up with a motto for this year and I still can't come up with one. "Thin in 2010" about all I can come up with.

I put in more air and now I am set. I even picked up a 75 cm so I can make sure I can handle weights and not worry about the weight.

when I had one of those stability balls, it came with a tape measure to tell me how big to blow it up. I really felt like it was going to pop, but it worked great. I think it should be like sitting in a chair, it sounds like you need a lot more air. Good luck!

I got an exercise mat, stability ball, a couple DVD's came with the stuff, aerobics step and crosstrainers.

something is not right with the stability ball as I am 5' 4" and when I sit on the ball my knees are almost to my ears. I am not kidding either. I am also within weight. How do you tell if you have enough air in them with out popping the ball? It is a 65 cm ball. Do I really need a 75 cm?

My tree is down, and my house is so much bigger! I love the Holidays, but I love putting all the clutter away after.

Still no snow emoticon I would of loved to get snowed in on Christmas, kind of sucks to have to walk to work tho.

Eva~that was nice of your hubby, what did he get you? Mine got me the wii fit board. It is a lot of fun, but I have yet to get a hard core workout from it. Just playing the games right now!

Hi, I have been MIA lately due to travel for work. I also got snowed in at my folks over Christmas for several days.... I am so ready to get back on track. At least I didn't gain 5 pounds this year.

A huge bonus is that my hubby got me some exercise equipment. Now I have a lot more variety in case I can't get across town to the gym.

Sorry I have been away for a while! I'm between biggest loser rounds, and kind of took a break...and found a few pounds :( I have it under control now, I hope, and am patiently waiting for BLC12 to start in January.

I went to the Dr. yesterday for a check up, and she mentioned Vitamin D to me. She said everybody should take 2000 (not sure of the units) She said it helps with seasonal blues and energy. The study came out recently and she is very excited about the results she has seen.

I hope everyone gets to feelin better before Friday!
Our temps have been more mild, but the little snow we had melted off, and no more is headed our way this week, bummer.

I really feel yucky today. I can't stay home as there is a training class going and it is a huge thing to get it done(I am the trainer). I made a workout date but forgot that I promised to go to a taste of home party at the same time. Plus have to make something for potluck tomorrow. All I want to do is stay home and sleep.

It is that time of the year. I've been feeling under the weather lately, but nothing that's got me headed to the couch yet. Of course, my boys are almost always sick. I'm not allowed to catch an illness worthy of the couch. The world would come to an end. I just keep plugging away, as long as I can breath okay.

Tis the season to be sick but come on I have had this ear infection now for 7 weeks! ok that was my pitty party. Saturday after I got done working out at the gym I had to sit down as I was seeing stars. It really isn't fun to work out when you feel crummy.

At least I can now say we don't have any more peanut brittle in the house. :) oh well, it gives me something to work for at the office with the biggest loser contest starting back up in January. I am determined to lose those 5 pounds before christmas so I can get off of this plateau!!!

John, hope you're feeling better soon.

I did that, too: had a cold since Saturday and worked out with my trainer yesterday. Fortunately, the exercise made me feel good, and I woke up this morning feeling a lot better. Of course, the symptoms came back as soon as I left the house for work, but ... it IS Monday after all.

Happy Monday...I've been sick and in somwhat typical guy fashion, decided to push myself when I "thought" I was better and ended up pushing myself back to the couch....

Today I am feeling much better thankfully and have taken a couple of walks already...

Eva, at least the brittle has nuts in it, so there is some benefit there! Am I trying too hard to justify????

Yesterday after a good workout at the gym, my buddy gave me a gift of peanut brittle. Talk about addictive! I must not have any willpower. Now I have to really work out.

You can manually enter exercises like you would food in the nutrition tracker, but that's probably not to helpful if you don't have any idea of how many calories you burned for cardio. You could try googleing the exercise to see if you can come up with an estimated calorie burn?

My MIL takes red rice yeast for her cholesterol, and it works great. She quit for a while, and her #s went back up. It is really inexpensive, and available at wal-mart.

I hope the antibiotics helped you out Eva! Its so hard to work and travel while sick.

Well, I wimped out walking today.... -5' brrrr! It looks like it will be below zero in the morn till Friday. So I have to make myself get on the elliptical.

Eva, hope you are feeling better....

I met one of my Spark Year Two goals by running a 5k all the way through, no stopping and I finished in a little under 30 mins. To say I was a happy guy is understating....as I was closing in on the backside of the building where the finish line was, I started clapping...and that is so not like me!

As to the cholesterol, my "current" problem is my HDL is not "high" enough even with exercise and improved eating. I am taking fish oil now to see if that helps. I am off the meds totally, but still want to see that number hit 40! Ideas?

BP down and cholesterol down slightly. emoticon Interestingly, the doctor recommended that I try red rice yeast which apparently works like cholesterol lowering drugs when levels are only slightly elevated. Anyone else using this? I'll let you know if I have positive results 3 months from now! Have a pleasant Sunday. emoticon

My name is Nadine and I live in Henderson, NV

I got more antibiotics on Friday so I am trying to get a lot of rest this weekend and get rid of the double ear infection. I have to travel for work this week and I really don't want to be sick in a hotel room the entire week.

Yeah, the treadmill is a real challenge for me. I much prefer the elliptical but I am helping my SparkBuddy train and the treadmill is more accurate for tracking distances. I plan on breaking it up with other cardio to though.

Since started going to the gym I am having a really hard time to want to get on the treadmill. It is so different from walking outside. I have been hitting the precore AMT and eliptical. I will have to ramp myself up. I did 10 min last night and another 10 today on the treadmill. Tomorrow will shoot for 15 min.

emoticon Crissy! 5 days a week is great!!

I have walked 3.5 mi mon-fri this week, it feels great! But I am still up a pound or 2 from last weekend. I'm hoping to get back down before the 2nd wave of goodies hits in a couple weeks.

Oh, I wish I knew how to break the cycle. I go through it all winter long with both of my little boys. Less than fun times.

I have to travel next week for several days so plez don't do the challenge next week. I suck at the crunches but will give it a try. I do love being competitive.

If this winter season is like any other I will have the infections until spring. So if anyone has an ideas on how to break the cycle I am all for it.

My new walking buds are AWESOME! it was only 20' today, but we bundled up and took to the streets. We are thinking of getting those spikes to slip onto our shoes for when things get icy.
Sorry I haven't been around, my computer got a virus on Thanksgiving, yuck!
Way to go on the 5k Caliman1 !!! I hope to run one someday, maybe next summer?

EVAKANEVA, wow. I'd be happy to be rid of those too. Hope you are feeling better.
I have discovered that I cannot commit to any challenges other than cardio. I have my own workout routine at the gym and that is all the time I can squeak out for myself. Anything else is asking too much, I'd hate to drag a teammate down. Unless it's straight cardio, I do cardio everyday so...
