You also already know what to do that you are asking about workouts. It is SO important to exercise. And I am sure you already know that if you work out, you will feel better. The working out helps your mind AND your body.
I agree that walking is a great start. I love to swim and it's easy on the joints. I also like the eliptical, which is not coincidentally easy on the joints. It's also good to do some weight training (even with 3-5 pound weights) as building muscle will help burn calories.
