Around the campfire...I am watching the flames dance as they lick at the wood and coals...holding out my marshmellow for toasting...and hoping that you all will have peaceful day with some quiet reflections.

Good Morning. What a beautiful day!

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

I had a great day. After church my husband treated me to lunch and we walked around a few stores. Then we went to his moms and played cards.

First and foremost I want to wish everyone a Happy & Merry Christmas most likely I will not be posting for awhile as I am trying ot deal with the death of my uncle on my fathers side I was the one that the state trooper call to notify of his passing I in turn thought I was doing the right thing to notify my cousins now one of them is trying to cause some trouble with the burial of uncle and wants him to be held over until family can make our way back north.

Problem is I gave friends who have been caring for NOrmie all these years permission to make all arrangement and do as he wanted a fast and quick burial which means tomorrow

I thought they all would see it my way but there is always 1 in the bunch who has to start some crap. Sad thing state troopers asked the friends they who should they call and they were told "Linda is the only one who cares" but he did not die alone someone was with him My fears were he would died by himself

Now he is in heaven with the rest of his family mother father and brothers they will have an awesome christmas in heaven a reunion.

Talk to you soon - hopefully i will get on line everyday as I need my teams and friends for the support at this time.

I hope you all have a great holiday be safe.

Bah. Today I backslid and had a bad cookie eating day. Never, ever come into your house after jogging (and without having had lunch) to the smell of homebaked cookies.

The little baked goods ambushed me. I ate EIGHT of them! Waaah!

Just call me cookie monster.

And now, we return to our regularly scheduled diet and exercise plans before we undo all our good work for the rest of the holiday season.

Good luck with the weigh in and measurements, Smitsher. Walking is great exercise. So is strength training. If you have not done strength training before, there are quite a few routines on the SP site to try out.

I am hoping that you have lost both weight and inches but either one is nice!

Hi Everyone

Tomorrow will be the second time weigh in and take my measurements. The amount of eating has been reduced big time since October. More aware of the portions. I believe I lost inches not weight but I will find out. I walking at least 2-3 times a week.
I like to walk. My challenge is strength exercise things that help tone and break down fat by building muscle. Sisters and Brothers I need your experience and wisdom. Thank you.

I know! I read about it in your blog. You must be so proud of yourself. I know that I am proud of you!

A journey of a 1000 miles begins with a single step. People talk about my high level of fitness... I started small, like you. Just keep on working it!

As for myself, I discovered an awesome piece of fitness equipment in my gym -- an expresso fitness bike. It was a cross between a video game and a stationary bike. You could choose different "tours" to pursue like:

* Riding through a redwood forest

* Biking near the coast of a beach with lots of hills and cliffs

* Riding through the Peruvian Andes

There were some also some fantasy choices where you can run over dragons with your bike, or bicycle on the moon.

They had a virtual pacer, a guy in a yellow jersey who rides ahead of you at a pace designed to be a challenge for you. I got annoyed having him in my view, and discovered that it was really shockingly satisfying to run him over.

Who knew that I had such a violent streak?

Since I find most stationary bikes kind of boring, it was nice to find one that was fun to ride on this Winter.

Well, I got my workout today. Two hours of snow shoveling. I shoveled my walk. I shoveled the walks of four of my neighbors. All that was pretty pleasant.

And then I remembered that I had not yet shoveled my driveway. That was less pleasant, because we are across the alley from a restaurant. The delivery trucks often back into our driveway to turn around, so I spent an hour chipping huge blocks of ice and compacted snow out of my driveway.

Ugh.

But... hey, I got my workout!

Did you lose weight this week, Ma? It's a plateau week for me so I have to revel vicariously in all of the successes of my teammates.

The day was very nice. We attended Church, then made a snack for the dinner. We went caroling for a couple hours, went back to Church and ate, then Santa came. I ate what I thought I could, but it's so hard when you don't know who brought what or what's in anything. Weigh in is tomorrow (Monday) so I'll know soon just how much damage was done, lol.

I hear you! It's 24 degrees outside on the harbor and the windchill is NINE! I thought my face was going to break off!

Sorry to change the subject but I wish we were around a campfire right now!! The wind chill here is 10 degrees and I think there is no better place than being around an evening campfire in the summer. that is where my mind is!!

I am determined NOT to do stinky exercises, lol.

I'd rather waste it than waist it!

Which part is stinky... the determination to exercise or the exercise itself?

I admit that exercise can get stinky, buy hey... that's what showers are for!

MaFoster, don't kid yourself. You have plenty of determination. I can see it in your posts, both here and in your blog. You just have to find a form of exercise that you enjoy. It is hard to do something regularly that you don't like.

For me, my fitness entry was walking (which I like) and biking (which I love.) Running? Bleah. But after I lost my first 20 pounds, I started thinking that maybe it was time to give running another try. Now I jog into work. Exercise has become a regular habit, and something I look forward to.

Yoovie, you can do your marathon. I know you can!

I think we all have the same amount of determination, it's just that some of our lives are more full of other things needing that determination applied to it, like family responsibilities, health concerns, demanding jobs, etc. What matters is what we DO with the time we can spare for our bodies :)

You are right Hilary, Some of them will return and we'll be here for them.

As far as time of year..... I guess it was a bad time to start but at the same time, what motivated me was.......what ever it was and had to strike while the iron was hot, lol. Timing is everything and SP came into my life when the time was right for me, so I'm still here.
It's not always easy.... in fact rarely is, but it's always worth it. So many here are giving and sharing in concerns and praise, I'm just tickled to be a part of it.
That's commitment Hilary....... Walking threw that? Wow, no doubt you're going to be successful in this journey.....

Yoovie, good luck to you. You all have more determination than I do for sure.

Yoovie --

Today I will be walking again to work. I walk/jog 2 miles everytime I go to work. Today I may be able to jog part of it, as people will have shoveled their walks, but yesterday I was slogging through knee-high snow drifts! It was a great workout though, and very pretty.

As for something to look forward to, Chanukkah starts this Friday. I am looking forward to lighting the Menorah with my kids and bathing in the glow of the candles.

(I am also looking forward to Christmas. My family celebrates both holidays. We've always told my daughter that she was our Christmas present since she came home from the hospital on Christmas Eve.)

MaFoster --

I have wondered the same thing about how many of our class is still here and still sparkin'. We have thousands of members, but only a small percentage post blogs or in the forums. I *know* that we all started on SparkPeople at a tough time of year -- right before Halloween and the rest of the highly caloric holiday season!

Still, I have decided that I cannot do anything about the ones who are not here. Chances are, some of them will come back with the New Year, and we will be here to welcome them and cheer them on. Right now, I want to applaud the ones who are here NOW.

You guys are awesome and inspiring. If you can keep slogging through the toughest time of the year, just think about what you can accomplish in the Spring and Summer when the best veggies are in season and the weather makes it a joy to exercise.

You guys rock!
