You do a good job..thanks.

Carol-

My point was, it was a repost. She had already done what she was supposed to the first time and posted it in the recipe box. I said in my post that I copied it the first time, and it is lost in my computer..my document file in the dead computer. I only asked her for a repost so it was here in front of me..I figured it was easier for her to access it and post than my spending the 1/2hr that I did to locate it in the recipe box. I'm sorry if that's a problem..I had no idea what thread it was in.. I also wasn't sure what recipe it was til she posted. I know I have come across several that are a Chinese BBQ-type, but Lord knows I don't remember the names!

I WAS ONLY REMINDING SOPHIE TO MAKE SURE IT WAS PUT INTO THE RECIPE BOX FOR THE VERY REASON YOU ARE HUNITING FOR IT, IT IS LOST ON ONE OF THE OLD THREADS AND WE ARE TRYING NOT TO LOSE ANY MORE OF THEM. WE LOST ALL OF GINGER SPARKS THAT WAY REMEMBER HOW MANY GOOD ONES SHE POSTED? AND SYDNEYGIRLS THAT SHE POSTED. THEY ARE BURIED SOMEWHERE IN ALL OF THE OLD THREADS THAT WOULD TAKE A MONTH OF SUNDAYS TO TRY AND FIND, SO THAT IS WHY WE CREATED THE RECIPE BOX SO THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN ANY MORE. I WAS NOT CHASTISING SOPHIE AT ALL. SORRY IF IT SOUNDED THAT WAY.

Sophie-

Thanks for re-posting it here instead of making me search. I did copy the original post when you first posted it, however, it is locked up in my documents on the dead computer. Maybe I should have asked you just to PM me instead of getting you chastised!

I did go thru the procedure to find your original post..and I did, but it took forever. And I do remember copying it the first time.

Is this it? If not give me a few clues about what was in it.

Slow Cooker Char Siu Pork Roast

Char siu is a Chinese version of barbecue. Serve with sticky or long-grain white rice and a steamed or stir-fried medley of bell peppers, carrots, snow peas, sliced baby corn, and water chestnuts.

1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
3 tablespoons ketchup
3 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons bottled minced garlic
2 teaspoons grated peeled fresh ginger
1 teaspoon dark sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder
2 pounds boneless Boston butt pork roast, trimmed
1/2 cup fat-free, less-sodium chicken broth

Combine first 8 ingredients in a small bowl, stirring well with a whisk. Place in a large zip-top plastic bag. Add pork to bag; seal. Marinate in refrigerator at least 2 hours, turning occasionally.
Place pork and marinade in an electric slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.

Remove pork from slow cooker using a slotted spoon; place on a cutting board or work surface. Cover with aluminum foil; keep warm.

Add broth to sauce in slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 30 minutes or until sauce thickens. Shred pork with 2 forks; serve with sauce.

Yield: 8 servings (serving size: 3 ounces pork and 1/4 cup sauce)

We eat alot of asian foods and consequently so are most of my cookbooks. Living in the area I do, it is the most common food type to get if you go out to eat. So don't hesitate to holler if you have any other particular things you want recipes for.

Thanks mucho Kierae! I just remembered at one of those all-you-can-eat Chinese luncheon places I would get it, and I just loved it! Now, I'll be able to play with it and get the caloie count down to "acceptable"! You're the best!

I like Char Siu cooked at home. I don't put it on a stick, rather I shred the meat. Cooking Light has a great recipe for it done in a slow cooker. Really easy.

Char Siu (if that is what you are thinking) is basically chinese barbecue. It can be done on skewers if you want. Most restarants use red dye (ick) for coloring.

Basic marinade:
1/4 cup hoisin sauce
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup Chinese rice wine or sake
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon finely chopped peeled fresh ginger
1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic
1/2 teaspoon salt

On the General Tso - you could get away with the water/bouillon or the vegetable juice. Each one would slightly alter the flavor a wee bit but not too bad.

I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing. Agatha Christie

YOU COULD MAKE YOUR OWN CHICKEN STOCK BY BOILING CHICKEN BONES, BACKS AND NECKS TO GET A CHICKEN STOCK I WOULD NOT USE BEEF AS THAT WILL TOTALLY DESTROY THE RECIPE I WOULD THINK AS IT WILL OVER POWER THE CHICKEN, NOW AS FAR AS THE VEGETABLE STOCK I AM NOT SURE ON THAT ONE....HOPE THIS HAS BEEN SOME HELP FOR YOU.....OR YOU CAN BOIL THE CHICKEN SKIN ITSELF TO MAKE A CHICKEN BROTH., THAT ALSO WORKS.

That's so sad, 'coz she always had such wonderful recipes!

I'm looking for some info and a suggestion. Has anyone ever heard of Char Su Ding? I think it's a "meat-on-a-stick" kind of recipe .... maybe Chinese? I just can't find it anywhere!

Also, I need to cook up a chicken breast, and wanted to use my recipe for General Tso's Chicken, but I'm out of chicken stock. Any suggestions? Can I use water and beef boullion granules? That, or some vegetable juice that I have are the closest things I can come up with. Thanks for any ideas!

Just an fyi - dark kitty got booted from sparks (included her new name changes). Evidently there were some complaints/issues regarding policies of Sparks. Last I heard she and her hubby wouldn't be returning.

Found it. You were correct DarkKitty in October.

Salmon with Avocado Mayonnaise
Realllly scrumptious salmon recipe.

1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 teaspoons paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
6 (8 ounce) salmon fillets
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 ripe avocado, peeled and cubed
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
5 tablespoons mayonnaise

In a small bowl, add the first 6 ingredients; stir to combine, then set aside.
Rinse the salmon fillets and pat dry.
Put the salmon, skin side down in a broiler pan.
Brush each fillet with 1 teaspoon oil.
Sprinkle the fillets evenly with the brown sugar mixture.
Broil about 5 inches from heat source for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes or until brown sugar mixture begins to carmelize.
Lower oven temperature to 425 degrees and bake 8-12 minutes or until fish flakes.
In a small bowl, mash the avocado until mostly smooth.
Add in the lemon juice; stir to combine.
Whisk in the mayonnaise until smooth.
Cover and chill until ready to serve.
Serve with the salmon fillets.
