I take 1,000 mg, twice a day (if needed). If I don't eat any carbs I don't take it.

What mg. of Metformin are you taking? When they first put Bob on it, it was 850 mg daily and it was keeping his stomach upset. Then it was cut to 425 mg and that seemed to help. But he's not on it at all anymore.
I'm feeling better. I finally broke down and took a dose of baking soda and water and that helped. I hate using it because of the sodium but it usually helps.

Humidity is 41% here and it sure does look like rain. Hope I get a chance to walk later today!

Sorry you are not all the way better yet. My Metformin pill is giving me problems with my stomach too. Almost doesn't seem worth eating carbs sometimes.

Wind started up... and sky is dark!

I got my flu shot the end of last month.
I'm still not feeling 100% today. Still a lot of gassy pressure but it's more in my chest than stomach this morning. I know it's not my heart but it's uncomfortable.
Bob had his device checked this morning. All was well. He'll go for another check in Feb.
It's raining here and very humid.

It's supposed to get up to 80 degrees today and then tomorrow it will be raining! I need to get going and get the rest of the stuff sanded today!

Hi Vicki, I have been crazy busy on my refinishing project. It was a HUGE piece of furniture and it was completely taken apart. It is an Art Deco piece from the Mid 1920's.

It is a TV/closet with shelves only. 3 large shelves and 8 smaller ones. Of course everything had to be sanded, stained and oiled. Well I have it back together today for the first time. Still working on the 3 doors. It looks better than I ever thought possible!

Yesterday both of us broke our plan slightly. Bob had a bowl of cereal not on the plan and I had a peanut butter sandwich. And this morning the scale told on us. Just that little bit and the numbers went up. For me only 0.4 lbs., but Bob went up 1.2 lbs. Not happy. Today is going to be a good bit higher in sodium day for both of us due to a high sodium lunch, but supper will be a low sodium meal. For the day it'll be over the limit sodium wise but very low in the calorie part. Some days it can't be helped and I'm not going to beat us up over it. This will be only the 2nd time this month we'll be over 2000 grams sodium so that's not bad considering how it used to be. So I feel we're making good progress.
Due to yesterdays activities, both of us plan to just take it easy and not do too much. I did get in my exercise this morning, but I'm going to catch up on my pen pal letters this afternoon.

Good Morning, Hope everyone is having a nice Tuesday. Bob had to go for a blood test this morning so we got there early and got it over with. He won't need another one for 6 months now.
Bob's a little frustrated with his progress right now. He's yo-yo-ing. I didn't tell him my weight this morning.. I'm down 2 lbs more. He was hoping to be down 2 lbs more by Friday but unless something happens, I don't think he's going to manage it. He sees the cardiologist then.

Good Morning Everyone,
We're having a cool spell today ( only in the mid 70's ) which is really nice for Florida.

I have to find things that Bob can snack on that's low or zero sodium. He's used to mindlessly snacking whenever he wants to and those freeze pops are perfect for that. I had to say something though yesterday because he was having one right after another. He had 10-12 yesterday. He's not learning moderation or eating something just when he's hungry. He's eating for the sake of eating or boredom. That needs to change or he'll be fighting the plan the rest of his life.

Good Morning,
Bob sees the pulmonary doctor today and I think that doctor will be happy with his progress as well. He's the one that told Bob to only lose 2 lbs a month steadily. It's the cardiologist that wants him to lose 5 lbs a week at the very least. Normally that's not a good thing to do but with his reduced diet and the fluid pills he has to take, that's probably about what he's losing weekly. I know he's down 20 lbs total since the 13th. He's been doing a 1/2 lb yo-yo the last 3 days.

Good Afternoon Team. Just finished 4 hours of grocery shopping and paying bills. My back is ready to disown me. But I got in over 3 hours of walking so got plenty of exercise. I'll spend the rest of the day on the heating pad. It's been a steady drizzle all day here but at least the temperature is down some so it's not as bad out.

Wow, losing another pound is awesome. I am so close to my goal weight that unless I make a lot of effort I don't lose. I am thinking of ways to turn this around soon.

I lose weight SLOW but then I tend to keep it off in the long run. I found my first chart with my highest starting weight of 176 on 12/20/2011, by 1/17/14 I was 155. My doctor thinks my goal weight of 122 is too low. I may change it to say 130... not sure yet.

He was a little unhappy this morning as his weight was up 0.2 lbs., but I explained to him about daily fluctuations so we're going to be really careful what we eat today as he wants the numbers to be back down tomorrow. I'm down another pound myself today.

Bob is coming around. As of this morning he's down 20 lbs, and he's getting used to eating the smaller sized meals. Getting the NU-SALT helped a lot. He really likes it ( I can't stomach it, I use Mrs. Dash on what I season for me ). And he's moving around a little more. He can't get over the fact that he's lost so much excess fluid in his feet, it's no longer a struggle to get his shoes on ( I have to put them on for him as he can't do it himself at this time).
And with me following the same plan, I'm down a full 10 lbs myself since the 13th.

Poor Bob he will find out that the weight game is strange. Sometimes I get on the scale and say to myself *where did that come from?* Probably too much salt is usually my problem. But with you guys watching your salt it is probably something else. So anyway, none of us are perfect so I wouldn't worry too much about one off day.

I think it'll all work out. Today was the first day since the 12th that he didn't drop any weight and that bummed him out. He didn't gain any, but it was the same as yesterdays weigh in. He doesn't understand about fluctuations, and he expects to lose daily as long as he stays on track with his eating. Well, today we both went off track with the eating so it won't surprise me at all to see a gain in the morning.

Good morning, Well I found a zucchini soup recipe in the Fannie Farmer cookbook that looks like it may be okay. So I will probably try it today.

Well it sure would be nice if our weight didn't matter, wouldn't it? I feel sorry for Bob because most people who start a diet start it because they want to, not because they have to. It's hard enough to stick to a diet as it is. As he loses weight I hope and pray that he starts to feel so much better that he will start wanting the weight loss for himself. I think that will happen if he can lose the 60 pounds, don't you?

He's doing better since the blow up. He just feels since he's in his 70's, his weight shouldn't matter. But if he wants to see his 80's then it matters a lot.

I try to do a lot of homemade soups and stews in the crockpot, that I can freeze and just take out as needed. Now I'm going to be doing them using different spices instead of salt.

Good timing Vicki, I just sat down to the computer. I was outside working on my current project and also just puttering around cleaning up the backyard.

This new way of life must be so hard on you! I do know that Bob is having trouble with it too, but since you do all the cooking, well I just can't imagine! I do the baking and other things but my DH does the cooking. I just can't make food taste good like he can!

I have some zucchini from my backyard plant so I am going to try to make soup tomorrow. What kinds of things are you cooking? I am going to start trying to cook here and there. Usually I am the only one who eats my food though emoticon

Itís been a struggle the last few days to get the menuís made up daily for the foods Bob can eat and not go over in calories and sodium, but tomorrow will be the only day in 8 where heíll be going over a good bit in sodium. His calories will still be good though. Iím having to work with what I have on hand until the first of the month. It would be easier if he didnít feel he had to have 3-4 snacks a day. He doesnít understand that takes away from his main meal . But heís done a lot better than I expected him to, even though he had a melt-down last night to the point where I felt like throwing my hands up in the air and telling him to figure it out himself. He doesnít realize the stress this puts me under. But I talked it thru with him and he apoligized for being an ass.

I think dieting is probably making him a bit crabby... it sure can make me feel that way at times!

I also belong to "Camp WannaBeFit" and for a team bingo game I have to try a new recipe for a *bingo square* so I am making Crockpot Lasagne today. Hope it turns out good, I haven't had much pasta in ages! (And I love it!) :)

The other team I am in that I really, really enjoy is Pixie's team... *Exercise & Fitness DVD addicts*. Wish you would join... it's really fun, they have the question of the day and other fun stuff. :) You can find the team on my spark page.

I have a 1,000 watt micro and I have been making 2 egg whites in it... I put a little olive oil or unsalted butterin the dish, then the 2 egg whites, cook for about 40 secs. This is good on a piece of bread with low sodium swiss cheese and low sodium ham. Everything we buy is low sodium :)

He's doing better today. We just donated some higher sodium foods to the food pantry so it'll possibly help someone else that can use it, and get the temptation out of the house. But it's going to mean eating more eggs than usual for the rest of the month since I can't go and buy more groceries to make up for what we donated. No more money til the first of the month.

Bob was a little shocked when I threw out the salt in the salt shaker and also the box of salt. He can no longer have it so it's not going to be in the house. He'll get used to it.

Good morning everyone!

Vicki I am so glad to hear about your progress! My DH has been cooking either low sodium or sodium free for years now. (I have high blood pressure).

It's criminal how much salt, and sugar for that matter, is in everything! There are some good low sodium sites on the net!

Well, I am trying to get my mojo back for losing some weight but I don't have it back yet! I did walk my two miles today, but my food choices haven't been the best. I did not eat one veggie yesterday... today will be better I hope! :)

Hello everyone. Hope you're having a good Wednesday so far.
It's been a stressful 5 days but things are improving daily. Bob is following the doctor's orders and really working to do what he was told he needed to do. And I'm following suit so it's less stressful for me. Going to have to really read labels from now on and buy the lowest sodium foods as possible. But it's something I've wanted to do all along. Bob would fight me over it in the past, but now he's all for it. And he's steadily dropping weight and so am I now.

Vicki, I agree, I remember that he was fighting you over getting on a healthy diet. I am just so thankful that the doctors were brutally honest with him. I guess he didn't realize what a slippery slope he was on! But really do any of us at times? I finally quit smoking after so many years of turning a blind eye on just how bad it was for me. Then I gained 50 pounds... took me like forever to realize I was going downhill. Well my doctor was also kind enough to tell me "You are falling apart"! Imagine my surprise! I thought I was doing good! So here I am right there with you and Bob trying to get healthy... :) We can do this by taking it one day at a time.

So far, so good. He slept well last night ( we both did), and we're checking labels like crazy to keep him and myself on track. It's not going to be easy but at least he's no longer fighting me on this. His very life depends on getting his weight down now and he realizes this, so that's half the battle right there.

Good morning team,
Hope you're all having a wonderful start to your Friday.
I'm doing much better since starting the new meds. Not hardly any pain at all now but I did have a next to sleepless night last night due to the prednisone, which was a surprise as it didn't do me that way last year when I was on it. But maybe it won't happen again tonight. I sure hope not. Anyway, I'm feeling much better and that's a true blessing. It's awful when you can barely move without pain, so when the pain is gone, it's truly a blessing.

Hope your hubby is more patient with your help than mine is. I can never seem to do it right when I'm helping him ( according to him) yet I did ok doing the exact same things for over 30 years without his or anyone else's help. LOL!

Last night I was in a LOT of pain and didn't get a whole lot of sleep but some of the pain subsided. This morning I'm on the first dose of the new meds and hopefully will see a big change in how I feel over the next couple of days.

When the inflammation hits my spine, it effects my left thigh all the way down to my knee. With all the walking today, it's been pretty bad but I start with the new meds in the morning.
