I am 5'2", 150 pounds and 29 yrs old. Generally my heartrate sits in about the 160-170 range and I am burning around 350 cals per workout. Keep in mind that when you are outside of your target heartrate you will burn the calories at a slower rate... but you are still getting a great workout from it. You're monitor is probably fine... just stick with it... your burn rate will probably improve as your body adjusts to the intensity of the program.
First goal: 8 pounds down by the end of January (to 155lb)

I am 5'7, 35 and abut 145. Usually my HR spikes to 170+ and averages 155-160 and I burn about 300 per workout. I think your HRM is working fine, I do insanity in addition to my regular runs, rides and swims.
My wife and I both have heart monitors during the insanity workout. It seems I burn on average workout about 550 to 600. While my wife burns anywhere from 250 to 350. It seems women to tend to burn less calories than men. My average heart rate is about 150 to 155. As for her around 160. Keep pushing because insanity works. I just finished day 63 on Sunday and I feel great. Started it over again on tuesday. The workouts are still not easy
I use the Polar FT7. I have just finished 5 weeks of month 1 (I repeated week 4). I am seeing 460-660 calories burned. The most is with the Pure Cardio/Cardio Abs. I am hitting a max heart rate of about 163. One thing to keep in mind is that the monitors just use a mathematical equation to determine what the calori burn is. So it is not 1005 acurate. If you do not have a monitor with a chest strap, it is not getting a constant heart rate, and I think it will provide an exstimate of calcories burned based on time and your current heart rate.
A friend of my that did Insanity said he was burning 1000 calroies per work out, and I am larger than him, but burning half as many calories.
I agree, I would check out your HRM. My HRM chest strap has 2 places that have to be run under water for it to work. I tried just dabbing on a little water from my water bottle one day and it didn't work.
I've recently started using a heart monitor (watch w/chest strap)to see how many calories I'm burning while doing insanity.
I'm pretty disappointed to see that I've only burned 230 when doing pure cardio and plyo circuit and barely 200 when i did cardio power! I push myself where I'm panting and sweat is dripping on the floor (sorry sounds gross!) but not sure how much more I can do without killing myself! I'm in pretty good shape despite my heavy weight so I minimize any breaks that I take.
Is it my heart monitor? It's the Pro-form brand. I just can't imagine that the workouts I've been doing are only burning 200 calories.
BTW, I'm 5'4" 145lbs. 31 yr old female. Are the high calorie burns I'm seeing from taller people?
