God often picks us up when we don't even know we need to be picked up. Be silent and listen for the Lord to speak to us!

Always be kind to everyone. Everyone has some struggle they are going through. Your kindness may make the difference in how they make it through!

March 13 - - Gift of the Holy Spirit

John 11:11-13 "Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

"... how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" (11:13b)

The Holy Spirit is the Father's very best gift. It is the gift of himself to dwell with us and within us forever. Jesus said ďAnd I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever, even the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you. (John 14:16-17)

Jesus is saying, I will ask the Father to send another one like me and He will dwell in you. And He will lead you into all truth.

God alive living in us - - thatís as good as it can get.

March 12 - - God gives only good gifts

John 11:11-13 "Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

Trust our Heavenly Father to give us good gifts, even when we pray for the wrong things. God knows what is best for us even when we donít. Often our prayers are not answered in the way we ask because God has something better to give us.

March 11 - - Refuge in the shadow of Your wings

Psalm 57:1 I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.Ē

I recall this story that we told the children about finding refugee in the shelter of God.

A raging fire passed through the born yard burning everything in its path, the farmhouse, the barn and the chicken coop. After the fire was out the old former walked throw the debris seeing if anything was left. He saw this red hen lying on the ground burnt and when he kicked it aside he find her chickís alive safe under her wings.

Is this what the psalmist meant when he said ďO God . . . I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.Ē?

Yes, it is not enough to just ask. You have to actively do something towards that goal, and if it is God's will, He will open the door for you!

March 9 - - Knock and it will be opened

Luke 11:9-10 "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."

Now the next thing we are told to do is to knock. Often itís not enough just to ask. Sometimes we have to knock.

When you knock you are becoming more persistent in your request. I donít know how many times, when I knock on a personís door, I hear them call ď all right Iím coming keep your shirt on or give me time to get thereĒ. There is something about knocking that brings about an urgency in the request.

We are told that if we ask Ė we will receive.
Seek Ė and we will find.
Knock Ė and it will be opened.
Each of these actions brings about a result.

What do you think?

March 8 - - Seek and you will find

"So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened." (11:9-10)

Then the next thing we are told to do is to ďseekĒ.

I believe the biggest problem most Christians have in their prayer life is that they donít give God enough time to answer their prayer. You pray for a need and the next day you borrow the money to buy what youíve been praying for.

Seek, search and look for the answer to your prayer. Often the answer is there but we miss it because we fail to look for it. I once heard a story of a man who went to the top of his house in the midst of a flood. The man prayed for God to save him. Three boats came by to rescue him but each time he refused to leave telling them that he was waiting for God to answer his prayer. The story goes that the man died and went to heaven. In heaven he ask God why He didnít answer his prayer. God told him, I sent three boats for you but you refused to use them.

How often has God answered our prayers and we missed it simply because God chose to answer it in His way and not our way.

What do you think?

March 7 - - Ask and it will be given

Luke 11:9-10 ďSo I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.Ē

There are three conditions for prayer that the Lord is showing us here - asking, seeking and knocking.

Many Christians give up and stop praying to easily. They ask the Lord once or twice and when he doesn't answer they walk away thinking God doesnít care. What if in this parable the man only knocked once and then walked away?

How many times do we walk away from the answer to our prayers just because we only knocked once?

We are told to first ask God. I believe that this may be the greatest problem that most Christians have today they donít ask. It tells us in the book of James that ďYou have not because you ask notĒ (James 4:2). It seems that we try everything before we resort to prayer.

Most often when everything else fails then we turn to prayer. Is it possible that if we prayed first that we might have to try everything else?

What do you think?

March the 6 - - knock until the door is opened

Luke 11:7-8 "Then the one inside answers, 'Don't bother me. The door is already locked, and my children are with me in bed. I can't get up and give you anything.' I tell you, though he will not get up and give him the bread because he is his friend, yet because of the man's boldness he will get up and give him as much as he needs."

The door is locked. The father would have to get up quietly from the sleeping area, step across all the children trying not to wake them, find the bread in the dark, move through the animals in front of the door and give the bread to the neighbor. It is not hard for me to understand the man saying, the door is already locked go away.

The point of the parable is to show us the importance of being persistent and never giving up. The friend had a need and he was willing to do whatever had to be done in order to have this need met. So at midnight he goes and knocks -- And he keeps on knocking until his neighbor gets up and gives bread to him even if it is just to shut him up.

By this time I can imagine Jesus' disciples chuckling. Imagine the man on the outside pounding, and the neighbor inside stumbling over children and chickens in order to get to the bread as fast as he can.

Just how persistent are we when we pray? Do we ask only once and then give up or do we knock and knock and knock until the answer comes.

What do you think?

March 5 - - Keep on knocking

Luke 11:5-6 "Then he (Jesus) said to them, 'Suppose one of you has a friend, and he goes to him at midnight and says, "Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him."

This is not about finding bread for a friend who has come to visit. This is about being persistent in our praying.

Whenever company comes to call, it is just good southern hospitality for us to feed them. This is what is taking place in the Parable of the Friend at Midnight.

Jesus was raised in a culture where hospitality was of high importance. The Jewish people always honored their guests by feeding them. With such a high value being placed on feeding a guest and with no 7-11 stores on the corner, you can see the dilemma this host is in when at midnight a visitor calls. He knows that it is his responsibility to feed his guest. He also knows that not having any bread in the house was no excuse. So at midnight He goes to a friendís house to borrow some bread.

For us this is showing the importance of praying for a friend who is in need. In the same way it was the reasonability of the Hoist to feed his guest it is our reasonability as Christians to pray for the needs of others.

What do you think?

March 4 - - Keeping a prayer journal

Mark 8:31-33: Do you have in mind the things of God or the things of man?

One of the best way of keeping in mind the things of God is to keep a prayer journey. A place where you write down how God is speaking to you and how God is answering you prayers

Often times a person will ask us to pray for them and we simply forget. That is why it is so important that you write down their request. Most often when a person asks for prayer it is because they are dealing with a trauma in their lives and are crying out for help. It is most important that we keep our promise to pray.

When you keep a prayer journal it gives you an opportunity to see how God answers prayers. Lots of times we pray for something and the answer will come in such a way that if we have not written down the prayer request the answer will be overlooked. Also it gives us an opportunity to see how faithful God is in answering prayer.

So keep a journal and wright down your prayer request and also wright down how God answered your prayer.

March 2 - - Man does not live by Bread alone

Matthew 4 Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

Love that scripture. It tells us that in the same way bread feeds the body the Word of God feeds the spirit. Next to drinking water eating is the most important thing we can do for our body but a great number of us (present company excluded I hope) will often go days without feeding the spirit.

So my question would be ďwhat is more important, feeding the body that is going to die or feeding the spirit that is going to live foreverĒ?

March 1 - - Praying for the sick

James 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

The Word of God is exact when it tells us what to do in times of trouble. It tells us here in James what to do when sickness comes upon us. It tells us to call for the elders of the church and have them pray over us in the name of the Lord. Then it tells us that we are to have them anoint us with oil. Thatís what we are to do if we are sick.

Then it goes on to tell us what God will do. God will hear our prayer and the faith of those praying will save the sick and the Lord will raise them up. The one who is sick will be healed and if the sickness is the result of sin the sin will also be forgiven.

My question would be how come we never do this? Is it because we donít believe all of Godís Word? If we donít believe all of Godís Word then how do we know what part of Godís Word to believe?

What do you think?

February 27 - - Pray for our Children and Grandchildren

Deuteronomy 28:12-13 12 The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. 13 The LORD will make you the head, not the tail.

This is the prayer that I pray for my children and grandchildren. That the Lord will open His storehouse and send his bounty of blessing, that they will be the lender and not the borrower and that they will be the head which is the leader and not the tail which is the follower

February 27 - - Pray for our Pastors

Exodus 17:10-13 10 So Joshua did what Moses had commanded and fought the army of Amalek. Meanwhile, Moses, Aaron, and Hur climbed to the top of a nearby hill. 11 As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage. 12 Mosesí arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset. 13 As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle.

This is the reasonability that we have to our pastor. We need to lift his arms up in prayer. Not only standing with him but also supporting him. We need to pray for our pastor and his family.

February 26 - - Power of prayer

Matthew 17:20 He (Jesus) told them, - - - - if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.

A few years back it was reported that a woman, who was alone in her house, was confronted by a burglar who was emptying her home of her possessions. She walked in were the burglar was to answer the phone. He ripped the card from the wall and ordered her into the closet. She was obviously afraid for her life, but did not panic.

To the shock of the gunman, Cindy fell to her knees and began to pray for Godís help. Even more stunned was he when she began to pray for him. She proceeded to tell him about Jesus and his love for him and then told him that she forgave him for what he was doing to her.

Apparently this was more than the robber could take. He began to breakdown in tears as he knelt and prayed together with her. To her relief, the man went to the window and told the woman that was with him that they needed to bring all that they had taken back into the house. He told her that this was a Christian woman and we canít do this to her.

Mrs. Hartman remained on her knees in prayer as they returned her furniture and belongings. The man then used his shirt to wipe off his fingerprints, apologized and departed, leaving his gun behind. - - - The Power of Prayer.

I have 3 very special ladies who partner with me in prayer. I trust them totally. They are strong sisters in Christ. Thank you for your Word today!

February 25 - - A prayer partner

Mat 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Letís talk about finding a prayer partner. That person that we can ďagree with as touching anythingĒ. That someone we can pray with for each otherís needs

Now when you chose a prayer partner be careful that you find someone who you can trust. You will be praying for each otherís needs and some of them may be very personal, confidential and privet. You will need someone with a tight lip that will not turn your prayer into gossip

It may take some time to find this right person so be patent. Pray that God will send this person to you.

Now there is a promise attached to this scripture - - ďanything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heavenĒ. Notice it didnít say some of the things or a few of the things it said anything but there must be an agreement between the two who are praying together.

February 23 - - Pray for your Enemies

Luke 6:27-27 27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, 28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

It is easy to love those that love you but loving those that donít love you, blessing those that curse you and praying for those that despitefully use you might be just a little hard to do.

It says to love them but also says to pray for them. Prayer has the power to change things. It changes the one were praying for but also changes the one who is praying. So if we pray for our enemy our enemy might just stop being our enemy and might become our friend.

February 22 - -Kingdom, power and glory forever - - (doxology)

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Matthew ends the prayer with a doxology. This is found in the King James translation only. A doxology is a short hymn of praises to God

The Lordís Prayer consists an opening, a time of praise, six requests and ends with a doxology.

Here in this prayer Jesus gives us a picture of how we are to pray. This was not intended to be a recitation, not saying that it is wrong to recite this prayer. I believe that it gives, both God and ourselves, great joy when we pray this prayer but as we have just seen this was given to us, by Jesus, to instruct us in the proper way to pray

February 21 - - Deliver us from evil - - (Request 6)

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Deliver us from evil or I could say the evil one. We donít talk musk about the evil one anymore. Itís like were saying ďif I close my eyes he will go awayĒ. Will I have news for you, when we close our eyes is when he grows stronger.

Right here in this Lordís Prayer Jesus tells us to pray that we will be delivered from this evil or evil one. We are told in Ephesians that we are to guard ourselves from this evil one by putting on the armor of God.

Ephesians 6:10-12 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Oh by the way Jesus is the amour of God so itís as simple as putting on Jesus. I heard it once said that when the devil sees wearing Jesus that he wonít be able to tell if itís Jesus or us and he will leave us alone.

February20 - - Lead us not into temptation - - (REQUEST 5)

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Lead us not into temptation -Temptation is not sin but it leads to sin. Sin is always preceded by temptation. So the best way to deal with sin is to avoid temptation.

So we are not to only pray that our sin be forgiven but we should pray that we not be confronted with the temptation to sin. Ė

James 1:13-15 13 When tempted, no one should say, ďGod is tempting me.Ē For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
