Praise God! I'm so thankful that He died for me while I was wallowing in sin. He isn't finished molding me and shaping me yet. But little by little I am conforming to His likeness!

January 7 - - - Just as you are

Romans 5:8 (NIV) - God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

We pick and choose those that we like and those that we dislike. Most often the ones we like are those that live up to a standard that we have set for them. This is most often based on their behavior. But this is not true with God for it tells us here in this scripture that “while we were still sinners Christ died for us.

Christ did not wait till we came up to His standards. Christ died for us just the way we were but He did not intend for us to remain that way. He wants us to grow into the likeness of Him.

What do you think?

I think He meant as many times as it takes! Forgiving someone is for your heart and mind, not for them. It doesn't even matter if they acknowledge your forgiveness or not. It helps for you to move on and not hold a grudge or any resentment inside you. That's what I believe:)

January 5 - - How many times should I forgive?

Matthew 18:21 Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” 22 “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!

Now I don’t think that this is an unreasonable question? How many times should I forgiving a person when they keep doing the same thing over and over again.

Peter said should I forgive them seven times. That was the number required under Jewish law. But Jesus said no not seven times but seven times seventy times. Now if my arithmetic is right that would be 490 times. Now does that mean that when I have forgiven 490 times then I no longer have to forgive? I don’t think so. What I think Jesus is telling us is this that if we are counting the number of times we have forgiven then most likely we have never forgiven them at all.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

What do you think?

Love is very one sided. Love does not depend on the others persons. It does not say that love is not rude as long as the other person is not rude. It does not say Love does not demand its own way as long as the other person does not demand their own way.

Love is all these thing even if the other person is not.

January 3 - - - Soar like an eagle

Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Those who hope or trust in the Lord shell renew their strength. Renew means to be made new again. When I see the word renew I think of these car shows were they take these old car and renew them or restore them. They take the worn pieces off and clean all the rust off and replace them with new or newly repainted parts until the car look just like it did when it came off the assembly line. Brand new.

The Word of God tells us that when we become a Christian we become renewed. Everything that does not look like God is taken off and replaced with everything that looks like Jesus. The bible says we are “being made into the very image of Jesus” a new creation in the Lord Jesus Christ. The 3rd chapter of John says we are born again.

That in itself is enough to make a person “soar on wings like eagles; run and not grow weary, walk and not be faint”.

What do you think?

Listen carefully to my words.

Proverbs 4:20-22 - New Living Translation

20 My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. 21 Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, 22 for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.

This proverb is referring to the Word of God. It tells us to do four things. It says for us to pay attention to God’s Word. Then it tells us to listen carefully to it. It goes on to say don’t lose sight of it. Then last it tells us to let it penetrate deep into our heart.

Now this verse also comes with a promise. If we do this then the Word of God will bring life and healing to the whole body.

Wow - - - LIFE AND HEALING TO THE WHOLE BODY.

January 1 - - My New Year Resolution

Colossians 3:17 (NRSV) - Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus.

New Year is about New Year resolutions and New Year resolutions are about what I want to accomplish and achieve in the upcoming year. But as I think about what my resolutions might be, somehow I want it to be more this year than something that I simply write on a piece of paper.

This year I want my resolutions to focus not on me and what will make me happy or a better person but on Christ and the place I give him in my life.

This Year I want the world to see Jesus in me. I want the light of Jesus to shine in me and through me. John the Baptist says it best in John 3:30 when he said, “He (Jesus) must become greater; I must become less”.

So my New Year resolution is that Jesus become greater in my life in this coming year and I become less.

Prayer for the New Year
Dear heavenly Father, show us how to set our heart, eyes, and mind on Jesus and let the light and love of Jesus shine through us in this coming year.

May I wish each of you a very Happy New Year and may your year be full of happiness and God’s blessings.

What do you think? - - - Your comments are welcome.

I definitely have been given a do over! and I know I don't deserve it, but I want to make the most of it! Last year I was diagnosed with Stage III lung cancer, and last month I am in clinical remission! 2013 is going to be a great year! I have been given a second chance at life and I want to live it for the Lord!

I read somewhere that to whom much is given, much is expected, or something like that. I don't know the exact saying or who said it, but I feel like I have been given much, and I need to do good things in His name!

December 31-

Hebrews 12:1 let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

The New Year is also a time of looking ahead, a time for a new beginning.

I love the freshness of a new beginning. This is what we find in Christ Jesus, a fresh new beginning. When we become a Christian we receive this new beginning. Everything that we were has been forgiven and we are made a new person. When I was a kid we called it a do over. When we played a game and didn't do well we would ask if we could have a do over. That's what God gives us when we become a Christian, God give to us a do over.

But it gets even better than this. God does the do over for us and he does it through the Lord Jesus Christ. - - - - -Happy New Year.

Pleasing God and not self is the sacrifice of the Christian. What a great time to look at self and see who we are pleasing. Time to get out the trash bag and throw some things away!

I can picture the Italian tradition, but wouldn't other come along and pick up the discarded items? In my life, if it's not pleasing to God, then it shouldn't be available for others!

Thanks for the Thought provoking messages! Not sure if I will make it to worship today, I'm still battling a cold. I don't want to "give" my germs away! Have a blessed day!

Hebrews 12:1 let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

New Year is a time of throwing away. There is an old tradition in Italy when at midnight on December 31st they throw everything out the window that they need to be rid of from last year. They throw out the old calendar, old dishes and broken furniture. I think maybe this is what we need to do. No I don’t mean throw things out the window I mean to look at the past year and throw out those things that don't please God.

This is also a time of keeping.

There are many things from last year that we need to keep. There are many things that we did last year that was good and worthy of keeping. We have helped others and we have made new friends, good friends. We'll want to keep those things.

I wonder what I should throw out the window and what I should keep.

What do you think? - - - See you at church

Proverbs 1:33 - New Living translation - 33 But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.”

I like that "live in peace, untouched by fear of harm". So being hearers of the Word and doers of the Word has the power to produce peace and ward off fear and harm.

A great New Year Resolution

James 1:22-25 -But Be Doers of the Word, and Not Just Hearers Only Deceiving Yourself

We are all pretty good at lessening when we are being told what we should do. We are also pretty good at telling others what they should do but when it comes to doing it ourselves it is often another story. James tells us that we are to be doers of the word and not hearers only. It says that we are only deceiving ourselves.

What kind of a year do you think we would have if we become “doers of God’s Word”?

What do you think?

I think you said it right when you said "prayerfully". So often we make plans, even big plans, and never pray about it first. Notice I said "we" that would also include me.

As we approach the New Year our thoughts turn to what lies ahead in this coming year.

Jeremiah 29:11 - New International Version
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

I believe God does have a plan for our lives. It tells us here that the plan includes prosperity.

How do we measure prosperity? Do we measure it by the amount of money we have or how successful we are or do we measure it by the peace, happiness and contentment we have in our lives.

The King James Version of this scripture says “thoughts of peace and not of evil”.
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

December 27 - Placing our trust in God

Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.

The Lord’s prayer found in the 6 chapter of Matthew also tells us that we are to put our trust in God. Jesus tells us that we are to pray for daily provisions.

Praying for our daily bread is more than just praying for our daily food. This would include all the necessities for daily living. This would be food, our health, clothing, and a place to live. This would also be Gods watch care over our families, our church, our pastor and our government.

What do you think?

But those who hope in the Lord
Will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
They will run and not grow weary,
They will walk and not be faint.

December 26 - Placing your trust in God

Hebrews 13:5 - -New International Version (NIV)
5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

We are not to put our trust in money we are to be content with what we have. After all money is not the source of our provision. God is the one that provides for us. So if we lose our money, or the source of our money, we still have God and after all is not God the one who provides for us. Don’t we have the promise that God, who is the source of our provision, will never leave us nor will He ever forsake us?

What do you think?
