April 19 - - Between Friday and Sunday

Matthew27:51-53 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

Several things took place between the time Jesus said “it is finished” and the angel said “He has risen” but “And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose and came out of the graves and went into the holy city” was not one of them. This is one of those verses that we have a tendency to read over several words. It says that this took place “after His resurrection”.

The Bible tells us that Jesus is the “Fristfruits of the resurrected”. 1 Corinthians 15:20-22 20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

It is because of the resurrection of Jesus that we have the promise of our resurrection.

Hebrews 11:22, - - - -without shedding of blood is no remission. Those in the Old Testament who trusted and believed that God would send a redeemer had to wait for the blood of Jesus for their salvation. So Jesus was resurrected and then those of the Old Testament who were saved by faith, as seen in Hebrews 11, who were waiting for the blood of Jesus for their salvation, were then also raised.

Matthew 27:52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose - - -

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will protect the hearts of our pastor staff and families against the deception and lure of impure thoughts and deeds.

A word from the Word

April 18 - - IT IS FINISHED

John 19:19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

When a person was sentenced his charges were placed on his cell or in this case on the cross. So in accordance with this custom Pilate wrote the charges that were brought against Jesus and placed them on the cross. Jesus was being charged with being King of the Jews and rightly so for Jesus was and is indeed King of the Jews.

In the trial it was the Jews that demanded that Jesus be put to death for claiming to be King of the Jews and now we see them upset because Pilate is placing the charges on the cross. It was as if Pilate was having the last word in this because it was Pilate who said “I find no fault in this Man (Jesus)”.

John 19:28-30 28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, “saith, I thirst”. 29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Jesus said “it is finished”, the greatest words ever spoken by the greatest man that has ever lived. Wow what a statement! This statement says that we have been completely reconciled with the Father. We have been justified, just as if we have never sinned. We are no longer separated from the Father by our sins. We are now able to enter boldly before the throne of grace. We have now a great High Priest Jesus who is forever making intersession for us. Everything that was lost in the garden has now been restored. In this statement is the assurance that everything that we have need of for our salvation is complete.

It says that Jesus gave up His ghost. It was not taken from Him. Jesus was on the cross because He chose to be there. Then Jesus said, “IT IS FINISHED” but is it? Every Friday is always followed by a Sunday. Good Friday and the death of Jesus is followed by Resurrection Sunday and new life.

“and the angel said, He (Jesus) is not here; He has risen” Matthew 28:6 .

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for wisdom and leadership for the pastoral staff in dealing with the challenges of ministry, be they physical, emotional, or spiritual.

A word from the Word

April 17 - - They took Jesus

John 19:6,16-17 16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away. 17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew Galgotha:

The practice of a convicted criminal carrying his own cross was common in the first century. A criminal, as part of his punishment, carried the cross on his back. Some say that they would not carry the entire cross but only the cross member but we see pictures of Jesus carrying the entire cross. Whether it was the entire cross or only the cross member the weight would have placed great pain upon his beaten body.

It says that “they took Jesus” or it could say they took charge of Jesus. They took charge of Jesus only because Jesus allowed them to do so. Jesus was in control at all times. Never was He ever at the mercy of the Romans. Jesus went to the cross because He chose to go to the cross. It was not the Roman soldiers that nailed Jesus to the cross but it was our sins. It was God's love of man that took Jesus to the cross.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for a powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit upon our pastoral leadership.

April 16- - King Jesus

John 19:2-3 2And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe, 3 And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.

The Roman soldiers had a strong hatred for the Jews and they showed this hatred by mocking Jesus by calling Him King of the Jews. They robed Him in purple, the color of royalty. Then they crowned him with a crown made of thorns. They struck him in the face and beat the crown of thorns into His skull with a reed.

In Matthew and Mark it tells us that they placed a reed in the hand of Jesus to serve as the scepter in the hand of a king. They also knelt before him and spit in His face. The purple robe, that the soldiers placed on Jesus was, most likely, a military robe worn by Roman officers.

The soldiers mocking Jesus by calling Him a King were actually walking in more truth they knew. For in fact Jesus Is King. He is the King of Kings and the Lord of lords. Jesus is crowned in splendor and majesty. But to make it even more ironic was this revealing of truth was coming from the lips of Gentiles.

These solders had no idea how close they were to the truth. The day will come when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. The day will come when these same men will stand before Jesus knowing how close they were to their salvation and how they rejected it.

How many times does this happen today? Those who sit under the preaching of the Word only to reject it? On this day they too will look back in regret.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that members of the congregation will convey a strong witness of the gospel to their community, through integrity, love, and godliness.

April 15- - The message of the cross

1ST Corinthians 1:17-18 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel -- not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. 18 For the message of the cross28 is fool-ishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." (1:17-18)

“The message of the cross”, often we can be so focused on the cross that we fail to see its message. I believe that this is why it is “foolishness to those who are perishing”. We hang the cross around our neck and display it on the back of our car and it becomes no more than a cymbal or a piece of jewelry.

Paul said I come preaching the gospel, not the cross but the message of the cross. The cross apart from the message of the cross is no more than a piece of wood.

So what is the message of the cross? 1ST Corinthians15:3-4 "For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." John 5:24 (NIV) "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life."

So the next time you look upon the cross look upon the message that the cross is carrying, the message that Jesus died in our place so that we might share together with Him in the resurrection of new life, an eternal life together with Jesus in Heaven.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for members of the congregation battling physical illness or emotional struggles, or facing spiritual needs. Ask God to minister to them in miraculous ways.

April 14- - Crucify him

Luke 23:21 21 But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.

This week we turn our thoughts to the cross and the crucifixion of Jesus. We love to look at the love of God and how he sent His son Jesus to redeem us. But we don't like to look upon the cross.

The Roman cross was not meant to be merely a means of death but was meant to be a means of torture. The cross was the most terrifying means of torture that has ever been known to man. A person could hand in agony on a cross sometimes for days before dying. They would hang on the cross till their lungs collapsed and then they would chock to death in their own blood.

In today’s world we turn our eyes away from the agony of the cross and focus on its redemption. We look upon the cross as a symbol of beauty. We wear it around our necks made out of gold. We make them out of wood polished to a luster and hang them on our walls. We place them on top of our churches. We have made the cross a cymbal of beauty but also the symbol of our faith.

We refer to this week as Passion Week so for the next few days I thought we might, very prayerfully, look upon the crucifixion of Jesus.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church services will be marked by displays of supernatural power be it in healings, spiritual gifts, and lives that are dramatically changed by Jesus Christ.

April 13- - Palm Sunday

John 12:12-13 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

It always amazed me how that on one Sunday they could be praising and worshiping Jesus and on that following Friday be shouting crucify Him.

It was Jewish tradition that the Messiah would come four days before Passover. They kept the gates of the Temple open so that He could walk right in to His rightful place. Because of this the Jewish nation was open with anticipation on this particular day.

That is the very day Jesus chose to enter Jerusalem on a donkey fulfilling the prophecy of Zech 9:9 9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

Jesus came into the city on a donkey. It was a donkey that had never been ridden. Now if you know anything about donkeys and horses you know how they behave the first time they are ridden but not so with this donkey. This donkey yielded to its Creator and willingly carried Jesus into town. Every part of God’s creation submits to its creator except man. It is because of this rebelling of man that Jesus went to the cross.

The donkey is a lot like us. We like to have our own way, but when we meet Jesus our creator something happens a change takes place. We come yielding ourselves to Jesus.

The crowds that had witnessed the resurrection of Lazarus were shouting “Hosanna” which means, “Save us now!” This is the same way we come to Jesus. We come shouting “Save us now”. It is our faith in Jesus and God’s mercy and grace that brings us into salvation.

Happy Palm Sunday

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that visitors to the church will sense the love and compassion of Christ, expressed through every member of the congregation.

April 12 - - Something God cannot do.

Numbers 23:19 - God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?

You have heard it said that God can do everything. Well that is not true, it tells me right here in this verse. God cannot tell a lie nor can the Son of Man, who is Jesus, change His mind.

If there is one thing we can be sure of is that everything God speaks in His Holy Word is true. So why is it that when we have a need we fret when all the time we know that God will provide for all our need according to his riches in Glory. Philippians 4:19

I love it where it asks the questions “Does he (God) speak and then not act? Does he (God) promise and not fulfill?”

Who wants to be first to answer these questions?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that Jesus will be at the center of every ministry, service, and event that takes place within the church and congregation.

April 11 - - Speaking Grace

Ephesians 4:29 “29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers..”

Boy, you talk about a mouth full here. This hits right where most of us live. Of course, this is not a challenge but rather it is a directive. God expects us to live that way.

God expects us to build each other up and not to tear each other down. We often do this by what we say. It says “edification according to the need” Speaking what they need to hear.

“That it may minister grace to those who hear”. - - Grace is receiving that which we do not deserve. Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. This is God’s grace. We deserve to be punished but we received God love and forgiveness.

We are to minister “grace unto the hearers...”

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the men in our church will have a powerful impact on its ministries, and that they will provide godly leadership in their homes, the church, and throughout the community.

April 10 - - Do Not Let The Sun Go Down On Your Anger

Ephesians 4:26 26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

“Let not the sun go down upon your wrath” The proper way to start a day is hinged on the way we end the day. That is why God’s Word directs us to “do not let the sun go down upon your wrath”.

In Genesis, God shares with us in the steps of creation that each day begins at evening of the previous day. God said, “There was evening and there was morning” Of each day. Notice God did not say there was morning and evening. Each day, according to God’s word begins on the evening before. So when we close the day with un-forgiveness and anger and go to bed upset, spiritually we are starting the day with un-forgiveness and anger.

“Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath”

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the women in our church will serve as leaders and role models of strength, maturity, and ministry at the church, in their families, and in the community.

April 9 - - Speaking Truth

Ephesians 4:25 25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

I recall a while back when I was speaking to a group of men that I tried to stress the importance of a point by saying “and I promise you this is the truth”. Later after the meeting was over I was called down by one of my peers. He told me that I should never say “I promise you this is the truth” because when you say “I promise you this is the truth” you are saying that everything that you say is not the truth but what you just said was.

Everything that we speak should be the truth so there should never be any doubt by the hearer that what I said is anything but the truth.

Does this make any sense to you? “Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth, each one of you . . .” Our Lives are not to be built on deceit. We are expected to speak the truth and we expect others to be truthful with us.

Matthew 5:37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these comes from evil.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the men in our church will have a powerful impact on its ministries, and that they will provide godly leadership in their homes, the church, and throughout the community.

April 8 - - Put on the New Man

Ephesians 4:24 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

I do love this verse because it shows me that God created man two times. The first creation is found in Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Then we see in this verse that “we are to put on the new man that God created”, not the man made out of the dust of the earth but the new man made out of the “righteousness and true holiness of the Lord Jesus Christ”.

So how do we put on this new man, this man “made out of the righteousness and true holiness” of the Lord Jesus Christ? We are told how to do this in Romans 10:9-10.

Romans 10:9-10 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

That is how you put on this new man.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the youth in our church will stand strong for Christ in their schools and with their friends. Ask God to help each young person to follow His plan for their lives, both now and in the years to come.

April 7 - - I Stand In Awe of You

John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

What a great day in church yesterday. The Lord spoke to my heart in the singing of the song “I Stand in Awe of You”. As we sang the words “You are beautiful beyond description, Too marvelous for words, Too wonderful of comprehension, Like nothing ever seen or heard” it had me to think about the fact that we were singing about the beauty of God whom we have never seen.

In this song the Lord allows us to look upon beauty in a different way. The world defines beauty as one’s physical appearance but the words of this song tell us that it is much more than this. It says that God is beautiful beyond description and yet we know that no one has ever seen God. Beauty has nothing to do with physical appearance. Wow that’s good news for me (LOL).

You see true beauty comes from the inner man and with a Christian true beauty comes from the indwelling Jesus in us. So you may be the most unattractive person that ever lived yet you can be most beautiful if you let Jesus shine forth in your life.

You are beautiful beyond description, Too marvelous for words, Too wonderful of comprehension, Like nothing ever seen or heard.

Repeat after me “I am beautiful because Jesus is alive in me”.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for the shut-ins in our church, as well as those who are widowed and living alone. Ask God to bless and encourage them, anointing their lives with power for ministry as well as help for the needs they face

April 6 - - A Nickel’s Worth of Jesus

1 Corinthians 2:2
For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

The first thing this scripture says “I am determined” we are the ones who decide how much of Jesus we want in our lives. We can have a little of Je-sus or we can have all of Jesus but we must decide.

I recall when I was just a young boy my mother would give me a nickel. I would take it to the corner candy store. I would press my face against the penny candy case and choose a penny worth of this and a penny worth of that but never did I choose the whole nickel worth of just one thing.

How much of Jesus do we really want? I believe often we only want a pen-ny’s worth of Jesus never the whole nickels worth. There are things in our lives that we would rather have then Jesus. So often we chose only a pen-ny’s worth of Jesus.

What does this scripture tell us “For I determined not to know anything - - - did you see what I just saw, it says “not to know anything save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” That’s the whole nickels worth.

I love the old song “I have decided to follow Jesus”

See you in Church

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that believers throughout the church will grow in rela-tionship with Christ as they follow the path of discipleship.

April 5 - - 23rd Psalm verse 6

Psalm 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

“I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” It says in 1st Corenthions 2:9 - - -Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

Eternal life is hard for us to comprehend. Everything in our life has a beginning and an ending. So we have nothing to measure it with or compare it to. In the old song Amazing Grace it says it like this: When we've been there ten thousand years...bright shining as the sun. We've no less days to sing God's praise...then when we've first begun.

April 4 - - 23rd Psalm verse 6

Psa 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

I use to have a pastor who would say, everywhere you go, goodness and mercy is following you. I can't think of two better companions than goodness and mercy.

When things are going good, God's mercy and goodness is there. When thing are going really bad, God's mercy and goodness is there. And there’s that word again “all”, recall I said all means all. It says goodness and mercy shall fallow me ALL THE DAYS of my life. Not just some or not just a few but ALL THE DAYS of my life God’s goodness and mercy will be there.

That’s a promise from the word of God.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church family will be united in our worship of God, fellowship with one another, and ministry to the community. Ask God to help believers confront and remove issues and problems that threaten this unity.

April 3 - - 23rd Psalm verse 5

Psalms 23:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

"My cup runneth over" notice it does not say my cup is being filled but my cup runneth over. He blesses me so much that my cup won't hold it. In fact God fills my cup so full that the blessings are spelling out on those around me.

I’m being blessed, my spouse is being blessed, my children are being blessed and my friends and neighbors are being blessed. Everyone I come in contact with is being blessed. My cup is running over with blessings and is spilling out on everyone around me.

"My cup runneth over"

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that strained or broken relationships, among families and friends as well as acquaintances, will be restored.

April 2 - - 23rd Psalm verse 5

Psalms 23:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

When the Bible speaks of oil it speaks in reference to the Holy Spirit. "Anointest my head with oil" reminds me of two of my favorite Verses in the Bible. John 14:16-17 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

I love these verse because it tells me that Jesus ask that another Comforter be sent another one just like Him only this One, the Holy Spirit will not only be with us but will also live in us.

When Jesus came Jesus only lived with His disciples but when the Holy Spirit comes He lives in His disciples. It just keeps getting better and better.

The reason for the sending of the Holy Spirit.

John 1 4:26 The Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

The Good Shepherd “anointest my head with the oil”.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that marriages and family relationships throughout the congregation will be strengthened.

April 1 - - 23rd Psalm verse 5

Psalms 23:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Every time I read this I think about the table that is being prepared in Heaven for those who are in Christ Jesus. The wedding feast of the Lamb and the Church.

Revelation 19:9 9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb.

Here at home I have a picture of this great feast. It shows a table that look like it is extended out into eternity. It is set with this fine china and silver prepared for a great banquet. The caption on the picture says - -

THE INVITATION
You are invited to come dine with Me, From now through all eternity.
Believe in the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, And dine with Jesus as your host.
To live in heaven eternally, All you must do is . . . . . R.S.V.P

R.S.V.P - - I did - - - - did you?

Pray that God will bless the efforts of business leaders and owners throughout the city, that economic conditions and employment will be strong.

March 31 - - 23rd Psalm verse 5

Psalms 23:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

"Prepairest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies". Everyone knows that in the presence of the enemy is no place to sit down at a table and have a meal. Could it be that we can be so at rest in the care of the Good Shepherd that even in the presence of the enemy we can sit at the table that God has prepared for us.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. I thought that for the next few days we might pray for Our City, State, and Nation. Pray that God will provide help and protection to law enforcement and firefighters throughout the city.

March 30 - - 23rd Psalm verse 4

Psalms 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

"His rod and staff they comfort me". It says here that the Good Shepherds carries both a rod and a staff. It says that they are used to comfort me. Today let us look at the Shepherd’s staff.

The staff also brings comfort because it was used to gently bring the sheep back to where it belonged. The staff had a hook on one end and with that hook the Shepherd would gently place it around the sheep and gently pull it back into the flock. There are times when we need that gentle touch of the Good Shepherd to bring us back to where God would have us to be.

See you in Church

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. I thought that for the next few days we might pray for Our City, State, and Nation. Pray that God will give wisdom and direction to the mayor, city council, and all other city leaders.

March 29 - - 23rd Psalm verse 4

Psalms 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

"His rod and staff they comfort me". It says here that the Good Shepherds carries both a rod and a staff. It says that they are used to comfort me. Today let us look at the Shepherd’s rod.

The comfort comes from the rod because the rod was used as a means of protection. The Shepherd would use the rod to ward off wild animals and other things that might bring harm to the sheep. We don’t deal with wild animals today but we do have those things that do cause a threat in our lives. You could most likely name them even better than me.

I would like to note that the rod was never, I said never, used on the sheep. I have heard it said many times “why did God bring this thing upon me”. Be assured God did not bring this thing upon you because God gives only good gifts to his children. What I am assured of is that “God’s rod will comfort you” when these things are brought upon you.

(Matthew 7:11) “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (James 1:17)17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

God is the Good Shepherd with good gifts.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. I thought that for the next few days we might pray for Our City, State, and Nation. Pray that people throughout the city will open their hearts to the voice of God, and grasp that He has a loving and eternal plan for their lives.

March 28 - - 23rd Psalm verse 4

Psalms 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

The 23 Psalm has been used in more funerals than any other scripture. It is used in reference to verse 4, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.” Speaking of the moment in time when we pass from this world into the world to come. This is only one of many scriptures that give us assurance of peace as we enter into death. 1Corinthians 15:55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

But the 23rd Psalm is for the living. "Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death". Now a shadow is not something that is real or alive it is a dark image cast on the ground or surface by a body intercepting light. So this scripture is not speaking of death it is speaking of that thing that looks like death that thing that looks like there is no way out. There are many things that come into our lives that resemble death. You find out that you have a dreaded disease or just before you retire the company you have been working for has just gone out of business or someone who is very close to you just passed on. Yea though I walk through this valley that is the shadow of death I will not be afraid because the Good Shepherd is with me.

Also we need to understand that a shadow is darkness or the absent of light upon the ground or a surface. When something blocks the light it will cast a shadow. Jesus said I am the light of the world. In Jesus there is no darkness or shadows. Jesus said, he that follows me shall not walk in darkness (or this shadow of death) but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12)

Wow - - What a friend we have in Jesus

March 27 - - 23rd Psalm verse 3

Psalms 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

“He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness” First of all let us look at what righteousness means. Righteousness means to be right-with-God. Jesus leadeth me in the way that makes me right-with-God. Jesus said, I am THE WAY.

John 14:6 6 - - - “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”. Jesus is our righteousness. Jesus and his death on the cross have made us right-with-God.

“No one comes to the Father except through me (Jesus)”. Jesus is our righteousness.

March 26 - - 23rd Psalm verse 3

Psalms 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

In verse 2 we see God taking care of our physical needs now here in verse 3 we see God taking care of our spiritual needs.

“He restoreth my soul” The other week I went to an antique car show. At this car show I saw all these old cars that had been restored. The old rusted and worn out parts had been removed and replaced with new ones. These cars looked like they did when they first came from the factory.

"He restoreth my soul". This is what the Good Shepherd does to our soul. He restores it to what it was before sin tried to destroy it. He takes everything out that is not of God and replaces it with the Love of Jesus.

Just as if I had never sinned.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will grant the pastoral leadership vision and guidance regarding the ministry gifts and callings of each member of the congregation, that they might use those giftings to the fullness of their potential.

March 25 - - 23rd Psalm verse 2

Psalm 23:2 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Now in the next few verses the psalmist tells us how God takes care of our wants and our needs. The first thing God does is “2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters”. Green pastures and still waters are the two basic needs for any sheep and food and water are also our two basic needs.

Matthew 6:31 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Each verse has a key word that brings us to the meaning of the verse. The key words here in Matthew 6 are “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness”. Seek ye first Jesus and His righteousness and all,--- there’s that word again all,--- and all these things shall be added unto you.

It looks as if this word “all” is built around our relationship with Jesus.
What do you think?

March 24 - - 23rd Psalm verse 1

Psalm 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19) Now the word “ALL” is a very big word. The word all means all.

Matthew 6:25-30 25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will help the pastoral staff develop strong relationships with other pastors and churches in the community, as well as with community leaders.

March 23 - - 23rd Psalm

Psalm 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

The 23 Psalm is the most recited and memorized chapter in the Bible. Norman Vincent Peale often prescribed the 23rd Psalm to those whom he was counseling. He would tell them to take it five times a day. To recite and meditate on the 23rd Psalm five times a day. The 23rd Psalm has the power to administer healing to those who are troubled.

The first thing we see in this Psalm is that "The Lord as a Shepherd" Over and over in the Bible we are given the picture of God as the Good Shepherd.

Luke 15:4-7 We see God as the Good Shepherd having 100 sheep and one of them became lost. It shows the Good Shepherd leaving the 99 in search of the one.

John 10:11-14 We see the Good Shepherd who lays down his life for his sheep. It speaks of the hireling who flees when the danger comes. It is a comfort to know that in times of danger the Good Shepherd is with us.

It says “The Lord is MY Shepherd. The word MY makes it personal. The Lord becomes MY SHEPHERD when I enter into a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. John 27:28 tells us that “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand”.

Oh how I do love that verse “neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand”. Did you see that, it says that I am in the hand of God?

Now how good is that?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will grant the pastoral staff strong health, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

March 22 - - A way that seems right

Proverbs 16:25 King James Version - There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

What this is saying is that our reasoning may tell us that we need to go a certain way but if we follow after this way often we may find that it leads to death.

For example, for years I believed that if I was good I would go to Heaven and if I was bad I would go to hell. So I tried as hard as I could to be good. Now this sure seemed right but if I had not found the truth this would have led to death”.

Salvation comes only by faith, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is not earned it is a gift. This gift is called God's GRACE.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will strengthen and bless family relationships among our pastoral staff.

March 21 - - What if - - -

Isaiah 51:12-1 - New International Version - "I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you that you fear mortal men, the sons of men, who are but grass, that you forget the Lord your Maker, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, - - - -?

We often live in fear, fear of losing our job, fear of getting sick. Then we have fear of not paying the rent or the electric bill. We live in a state of “WHAT IF”.

Will I have good news for you. God tells us here that we are not to fear man or even the ways of man. It tells us that most often the reason for our fear is the fact that we have forgotten that God or Maker is the One who not only created the world but also sustains the world. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19.

We need to stop looking at “WHAT IF” and start looking at “GOD IS”.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the lives of our pastoral staff will be marked by integrity and godliness.

March 29 - - That we might receive the adoption as sons

Galatians 4:4-5 4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

“To redeem them that were under the law” That would be you but that would also be me. When God gave us the Ten Commandments we were placed us under the law. If you keep the law then you are saved if you break the law then you are condemned. But you and I both know that we have all broken the law so we all know that we are all under condemnation.

But fear not because “God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law”. In other words Jesus came placing himself under the law so he could redeem those who were under the law. God become a man in order to take upon himself the sin of man and sins condemnation. This is simply saying that Jesus came as the second Adam.

Don’t go away that’s not all. Not only did God redeem us through Jesus Christ but God also received us through our being adopted into the family of God. One thing about an adoption is that a person can never be un-adopted.

So not only have we been saved from our sin but we also have been adopted into the family of God through the Lord Jesus Christ and His blood on the cross.

Don’t you just love it? How good can it get? God is a God of adoption.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the pastoral staff will remain bold in proclaiming spiritual truth, even when it is unpopular to do so.

March 19 - - Pocket full of Rocks

Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

We are to read the Word. We are to meditate on the Word and then we are to memorize the Word. Now in this verse it tells me that I am to hide the Word in my heart.

When I had the children ministry one of the things we would do was to have the children paint bible verses on rocks. It would help the children to memorize the verse. I would tell the children that we could use them to throw at the devil when we were being tempted.

Quoting scriptures that we have memorized is like throwing rocks at the devil.

So my question would be “Do you have a pocket full of rocks?

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will protect the hearts of our pastor staff and families against the deception and lure of impure thoughts and deeds.

March 18 - - Put your trust in the Lord

Psalm 20:7 7Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

If I were to paraphrase this verse I would have it to read like this “Some trust in there job’s and some trust in there money but I will remember and trust in the Lord my God”.

When we put our trust in God it means that when the job is gone, and when the money is gone God will still be there. Our source of provision does not come from our job or our money our source of provision comes from the Lord our God

It’s great to know that we can put our total trust in God and that He will always be there to take care of us.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for wisdom and leadership for the pastoral staff in dealing with the challenges of ministry, be they physical, emotional, or spiritual.

March 17 - - Listen carefully to my words.

Proverbs 4:20-22 - New Living Translation

20 My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. 21 Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, 22 for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.

This proverb is referring to the Word of God. It tells us to do four things. It says for us to pay attention to God’s Word. Then it tells us to listen carefully to it. It goes on to say don’t lose sight of it. Then last it tells us to let it penetrate deep into our heart.

Now this verse also comes with a promise. If we do these four things then the Word of God will bring life and healing to the whole body.

Do you believe in divine healing? The Word of God does.

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for a powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit upon our pastoral leadership.

March 16 - - How often should I forgive?

Matthew 18:21-22 21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

Now if my arithmetic is right that comes to 490 times. Now does that mean that when I forgive a person 490 times I don’t have to forgive them anymore?

No I do not believe that this is what Jesus is saying. I believe Jesus is telling us that if we are keeping count of the times we forgive then more than likely we are not really forgiving at all.

I’m so glad that God does not keep count. In fact the Bible tells me that not only does God forgive us of our sins but He chooses not even to remember them.

“For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more” -Jeremiah 31:34

That means that if I asked God about a sin that I confessed yesterday He would tell me that He has no idea of what I’m talking about.

Now how great is that?

See you in Church

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that members of the congregation will convey a strong witness of the gospel to their community, through integrity, love, and godliness.

March 15 - - Fill my cup Lord

Romans 15:13"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

When I had the children ministry I used an illustration showing how a person can be emptied of sin and filled with Jesus.

I would place a glass filled with oil that had been tented with red die on a stand in a shallow pan. The glass represented us, you and I, and the red oil represented sin or worldly desires. Then I took a container filled with very pure water. I called this pure water Jesus.

I proceeded to pour the pure water (Jesus) into the glass filled with red colored oil (sin or worldly desires). As the water (Jesus) went into the glass filled with red colored oil, (sin and worldly desires) the red colored oil, which is lighter the water would float to the top and out of the glass until there was nothing remaining in the glass except the pure water (Jesus)

That my friend is how it is done. Fill yourself with Jesus and there will be no place left for sin and worldly desire.

When Jesus comes in sin must and will leave.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for members of the congregation battling physical illness or emotional struggles, or facing spiritual needs. Ask God to minister to them in miraculous ways.

March 14 - - Blessings and curses

James 3:10 out of the same mouth cometh forth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

When it speaks of cursing it is not only referring to the use of profane language, although I don’t believe a Christian should speak profanity, but it is also referring to speaking a curse on a person through the words we speak.

Cursing the car because it will not start by calling it a piece of junk. Not only do we do this with things like a car but we often even do this with the ones we love. We do this by saying things like “they are always sick”, “they never will learn anything” and “they never will amount to anything”. We even do this when speaking about ourselves we say things like “I never will lose any weight” or “I’ll never find a job”. We speak a lot of curses and do not realize we are even speaking them.

I heard it once said that “we are to speak what is not so, to be so, so that it might become so”. Let me say that again “we are to speak what is not so - - - to be so - - - so that it might become so”.

It tells me in this verse that we are to speak blessings and not curses. Words are very powerful.

Matthew 18:18 18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. We often do this simply by the words we speak.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church services will be marked by displays of supernatural power be it in healings, spiritual gifts, and lives that are dramatically changed by Jesus Christ.

March 13 - - What a mighty God we serve

John 17:8-10 8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. 9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. 10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

I thought we might look at the Lord’s prayer or I should say the prayer that Jesus prayed for us. This Prayer is found in the 17 chapter of the book of John.

Yes I know what you’re going to say. The Lord’s Prayer is found in Matthew 6:9-13 and yes you are right to an extent but in reality the prayer we find in Matthew is the model prayer. In Matthew Jesus is teaching us how to pray but here John 17 Jesus is praying and making intercession for us. In this prayer we see Jesus praying for His disciples, for His Church and for your and I.

Just a few hours before Jesus was arrested and tried. Just a few hours before Jesus was nailed to the cross we find Jesus praying for us. But then again is this not why Jesus came to earth. Was this not why Jesus was going to the cross. Even from the cross we find Jesus praying. “Father forgive them for they know not what they do”.

Even in His pain and even in His death we were still on His mind and in His heart. Oh what a mighty God we serve.

With us it is or it should be all about Jesus but with Jesus it’s all about us.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that visitors to the church will sense the love and compassion of Christ, expressed through every member of the congregation.

March 12 - - Be a doer of the Word

James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves.

I had a nephew who was always willing to lessen to my advice. He would agree with every word I said but he never did what I suggested he should do. He was a hearer only. I sometimes think that this is the way we respond to the Word of God.

It is one thing to hear the Word and another thing to do the Word. Often we become very excited about going to Church. We comment on how wonderful the sermon was but we go back into the world doing the same thing we always do. No change. The sermon or the Word made no impression on us at all. James warns us against this when he tells us we need to not only hear the Word but we also need to be doers of the word.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that Jesus will be at the center of every ministry, service, and event that takes place within the church and congregation.

March 11 - - - A Lamb for the world

John 1;29 29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

In this John 1:29 we see John the Baptist again pointing to Jesus. “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world”.

Jesus is the Lamb that was sacrificed for the whole world. It took two thousand years for God to bring us to this place of ‘a Lamb for the world’.

First we had a lamb for a man, Genesis 4:4 4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering.

Then there was a lamb for a family. Exodus 12:3 3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, in the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house.

Then we have a lamb for a nation. Leviticus 16:30, 34 30 For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD. 34 And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses.

Now we have a Lamb for the world. John 1;29 29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Jesus, a Lamb for the world - - - I’m so glad God included me.

March 10 - - Let’s talk this over

Isaiah 1:18 18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

God says, "Come over here and sit down. Let's talk this over together."

This is one of the most amazing verses in the Bible! God says to me "Let's reason together”.

Imagine! A God who’s I Q is infinity wants to set down and "reason" with me!

March 9 - - God is God

Rev 2:9 I know your troubles; I know that you are poor---but really you are rich! - - - - -

God knows our trouble. God knows our pain and suffering. God knows our sorrow. God know everything that is taking place in our life. The only thing is, we look at it one way but God looks at it another way.

Now if I say I am poor, so to speak and God says I am rich who am I going to believe myself or God? If you don’t mind I thing I’ll believe God, He’s never been wrong before.

God is God you know - - -

2 Timothy 1:3 - - - “I thank God, whom I serve I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day.”

See you in Church

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will bless the children of the church, protecting them from harm and helping them to grow strong in the Lord as they prepare for a lifetime of serving Christ.

March 8 - - Be still and know God

1Peter 1:6 Be glad about this, even though it may now be necessary for you to be sad for a while because of the many kinds of trials you suffer. 7 Their purpose is to prove that your faith is genuine.

Understand I am not saying that God brings trials into our lives we all know that God gives only good gifts to His children. What I am saying is that God can use these trials to strengthen our faith.

It is in the time of trials that we walk closer to God. It is in these times of trial that we learn to know and see the power of God

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” – (Psalms 46:10)

What do you think?

March 7 - - Keep on keeping on

Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

There are all kinds of races people run today but I believe that the one that is most familiar to most of us is the “rat race”. The rat race is not a very pretty race and it takes all the energy out of a person. It is brutal and in the end, it seems to lead to nowhere!

Paul compares a Christian life to a person running a race. A race is hard on a person. As a person nears the end of the race they become very tired and weary and everything in their body wants to stop.

That is when they need the help of a friends to encourage them to keep on running. The right word at this time will determine rather they finish the race or stop short.

That's why when you see a person running in a race you will always see those on the side of the road shouting to the runner to “keep running”. We need to be standing beside those around us shouting for them to “keep running”.

We too need to keep on keeping on - - - we need to keep on running but we also need to keep on shouting for those around us to keep on running.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for the shut-ins in our church, as well as those who are widowed and living alone. Ask God to bless and encourage them, anointing their lives with power for ministry as well as help for the needs they face daily.

March 6 - - God cares for you

1 PETER 5:7 “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you”

Can you believe that we have a God that cares for us? Care as in having a concern for us and what is going on in our lives but also care for us as in taking care of us seeing to all our needs..

Joshua knew his life was ending. So he called the leaders of the nation together to give a final word of encouragement.

His whole message was just seven words. "Be faithful to the Lord your God." Joshua 23:8,

I think this message is still very much alive today. “Be faithful to the Lord your God”.

What does the word faithful mean? It means to be full of faith. In order for a container to be full of something it must first be emptied of everything else.

In order for us to be full of faith in God we must be emptied of everything that is not of God. In order to be full of faith we need to be emptied of doubt, fear and unbelief. We must accept the Word of God as infallible, completely true.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that believers throughout the church will grow in rela-tionship with Christ as they follow the path of discipleship.

March 5 - - God has always given us encouragement

Joshua 23:6-7 6 Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left; 7 That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them:

Joshua in the Old Testament knew the problems the nation was dealing with in the new land that God had given them. Before his death, he called the people together to encourage them. He knew where they were week and he knew what to say to build them up.

Joshua told them, abide by all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses never turning aside; don’t affiliate yourselves with the pagan nations or serve their gods.

This sounds like good advice for us today. Abide in the Bible and do what it tells us to do, good advice. Don't affiliate yourselves with those that do not follow after God, more good advice. The only thing that I could add to this is to spend time in prayer. Spend time talking to God.

What we deal with may be entirely different then what the nation of Israel was dealing with but the cure is the same. Put our trust and faith in God.

1 PETER 5:7 “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you”

God cares about you but God also takes care of you.

That’s about as good as it can get.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that believers throughout the church will grow in rela-tionship with Christ as they follow the path of discipleship.

March 4 - - God is our strength

Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

I love the word refuge, a place of shelter, protection and safety – A hiding place. I can't think of a better place to hide then in God during times of trouble.

God’s strength is “a very present help”. The presence of God 31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31

In a time when I have no strength, in a time when all my strength is gone, God my strength. “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”. Philippians 4:13

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church family will be united in our worship of God, fellowship with one another, and ministry to the community. March 3 - - Ministry of Encouragement.

John 16:33 (Jesus said) These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

When I think of encouragement, I think of Barnabas and the works of encouragement that he did. Barnabas was called the Son of Encouragement. Barnabas’ ministry was a ministry of encouragement.

Do you think that we, you and I, could have a ministry of encouragement? Do you think that we could encourage someone?

Take time today to speak a word of encouragement to just one person. You will be a blessing and you will also receive a blessing.

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that strained or broken relationships, among families and friends as well as acquaintances, will be restored.

March 2 - - Be of good cheer

John 16:33 (Jesus said) These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

We don't have the market cornered on depression. Some of the great men in the bible had moments of depression. Jeremiah was known as the weeping prophet. Once in a moment of depression Jeremiah cursed the day he was born. Another time he was so depressed that he promised that he would never preach again. Right after the book of Jeremiah comes the book of Lamentations. A whole book in the bible written about the tears of Jeremiah.

Then we have John the Baptist. John preached “Prepare the way of the Lord...", But even he dealt with depression and doubts while he was in prison. I think prison would do that to a person.

Have you ever felt like you were in a prison I think we all have and we all know the feeling that this brings?

Jesus said “These things I have spoken unto you, THAT IN ME ye might have peace”, Jesus said the victory is in Him, Jesus. How does the old Hymn go “Turn your eyes upon Jesus”?

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

Could it be were looking around instead of looking up?

See you in church.

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that marriages and family relationships throughout the congregation will be strengthened.

March 1 - - Encouragement

John 16:33 (Jesus said) These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

We all deal with moments of depression. When we feel so low that we could set on a sheet of paper and our feet wouldn't hit the floor. We all have a tendency to look at what we don't have instead of what we do have. No matter what you have you will always find someone who has more.

That is when we need a word of encouragement.

There are people who have the gift of encouragement. They always have just the right words at the right time.

What does the word encouragement mean? The word encouragement means the expression of approval and support. I believe that this is what we are all looking for. We all are seeking to be approved and are looking for support.

The word encouragement also means to give hope and support to another person. So not only are we looking for hope and support we are to giving others hope and support.

Jesus said “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace” Jesus said “I have overcome the world.

What do you think?

Pray for our Churches. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will grant the pastoral leadership a strong sense of vision for the church and congregation.

Feb 28 - - Jesus said “I am come that you might life”

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

How does the devil go about doing this? He does this by destroying the moment we are living now.

The only moment that is alive is the moment that we are living now. The moment that we just lived is gone and the moment we are about to live has not yet been birthed. So the only moment that is alive is the now moment and it is the only moment that counts.

So how does the devil steal the moment we are living now? He does it by either worry or guilt. Worry is being anxious about tomorrow. We spend a lot of time worrying about something that most likely will not happen.

The other way the devil steals the now moment is guilt. Looking back and seeing things in the past that we have done wrong or have hurt someone we love. Things that we can do nothing about. Yesterday is gone and we need to put it away. Ask God to forgive you and then forgive yourself.

The only moment that is alive in the moment of now. Don’t let the devil have it. Turn your eyes upon Jesus and take the abundant life that Jesus has for you. Jesus said “I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly”.

What so you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will grant the pastoral leadership vision and guidance regarding the ministry gifts and callings of each member of the congregation, that they might use those giftings to the fullness of their potential.

Feb 27 ---- Knowing the Word of God

Matthew 22:29 Jesus replied, You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.

Just how important is it for us to know the Word of God? It says here in this scripture that in order to know the power of God it is important to know the Word of God. How can we live and move in God’s power if we do not know God’s Word?

2Ti 3:16 -17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the pastoral leadership will be blessed with the guidance and anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Feb 26 Visions and Dreams

Act 2:17 - - - And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams:

When I was young I had all kinds of visions. I had a vision that I would have a family and a good job. That I would do well in my job and someday become the boss or maybe have a business of my own. That’s what young people do, they have visions.

But I am not young anymore, now I’m an old man and I no longer have a vision. I now have dreams. I spend most of my time dreaming about how it was when I was young. Dreaming of the good times and how it used to be. I am sure I’m not the only one that does this dreaming?

But we have to be careful about dreaming. It can sometimes bring us to a place where we no longer have a vision. We often begin to think that we no longer have a future that life is over.

God did say that old men would dream dreams but He did not say we could not still have a vision.

Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish”

So if you are young continue to have your vision and if you are old continue to have your vision.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will help the pastoral staff develop strong relationships with other pastors and churches in the community, as well as with community leaders.

Feb 25 - - God knows what is best for us

Acts 3:6 Peter said [to the man], "I have no silver or gold, but what I have I give you; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stand up and walk.

"WHEN my children were young and wanted a toy, I often heard, "But I need it!" As children of our heavenly Father, we are no different. Sometimes what we think we need is not at all what we need.

The beggar who was laid at the temple gate thought his greatest need was money. He had been crippled since birth and had no way to earn income for life's necessities. So he begged for money.

Had Peter and John given the man money, his immediate need would have been met, but his life would not have changed. The next day he would have been back at the gate again, begging. Instead, Peter saw the man's real need -- his need for physical and spiritual healing. The beggar left the gate that day a changed man, praising God. He could walk! He received not what he asked for but what he needed.

Our heavenly Father often goes beyond what we ask. He gives us what we need and not what we want.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will grant the pastoral staff strong health, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Feb 24 - - God is my strength

Habakkuk 3:19 The Lord GOD is my strength, And He has made my feet like hinds’ feet, And makes me walk on my high places.

Every once in a while you will see something in the scriptures that you have read many time but never really see what it was saying. This is one of those scriptures.

The hind foot is what keeps the animal stable as it walks in high difficult places. It tells me that God is my strength and gives me the ability to walk in difficult places. I don’t know about you but I have walked in many difficult places and had it not been for God I don’t think I could have made it.

Thank God for “He has made my feet like hinds’ feet”

Feb 23 - - Disagree and still be friends

Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Can two people disagree and still be friends? I believe the answer is yes. If this were not true then I believe we would have no friends because I am sure that each of us disagrees on something.

Sometimes this is the reason a person tries to trash a person. If two persons disagree it most likely one of them are wrong. I have been wrong many times. I have changed my thinking many times, Why not instead of becoming upset and trashing someone simply because you disagree why not pray for them.

Prayer has the power to do two things. It has the power to change the person were praying for but it also has the power to change the person that is praying.

See you in church

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the pastoral staff will remain bold in proclaiming spiritual truth, even when it is unpopular to do so.

Feb 22 - - A word of encouragement

Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Why is it we are always talking down everything around us? We are always looking on the bad side of a person instead of finding the good in them?

The Word of God says, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth”. We are to be a help and not a hindrance. We are to speak words that will encourage. We are to build up a person and not try to tear them down.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will protect the hearts of our pastor staff and families against the deception and lure of impure thoughts and deeds.

Feb 21 - - Three questions

Matthew 16:13 13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 And they said, “Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, [i]Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” 15 He *said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

We see Jesus asking two questions. The first being “who do people say that I am”?

If we were to ask this question today we would receive all kinds of answers. Some would say that Jesus is simply a character in a novel written a long time ago. Other would say that He was a great teacher. Still some would say that he is Christ the Son of the Living God.

The next question Jesus asked was “who do you say that I am”? This makes it personal. What kind of relationship do we have with Jesus? Do we only know about Jesus or dowe know Jesus as our personal savior.

I think we could go just one more question and that would be our asking “who does Jesus say that I am”. Again I think this depends on our relationship with Jesus. If we have a personal relationship with Jesus then Jesus would answer “YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for wisdom and leadership for the pastoral staff in dealing with the challenges of ministry, be they physical, emotional, or spiritual.

Feb 20 - - - God wants you

Luke 2:25 - 25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

Did you know that God has placed Simeons all over the world? Men and woman who are just and devout Christians who are in love with Jesus and who are full of the Holy Spirit. Men and woman who are ready to share the love of Jesus to a lost world.

Did you know that God is looking for more men and woman who are willing and who have a desire to be a Simeon? Did you know God want you and I to be a Simeon?

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for a powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit upon our pastoral leadership.

Feb 19 - - - The impossible is possible

Luke 18:27 27 And he (Jesus) said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

Many times things will come into our lives that we except because we consider it impossible to change. But this scripture tells us that what seems impossible for man is very possible for God. I heard it once said “the impossible is what God does best”.

In the Book of James it tells us “you have not because you ask not”. Its not that God can’t do the impossible it is more like “we never ask God to do the impossible”.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that members of the congregation will convey a strong witness of the gospel to their community, through integrity, love, and godliness.

Feb 18 - - - Forgiveness

Mat 5:23-24 - 23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; 24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

God is a God of forgiveness. He stands ready to forgive us of our sins but He also expects us to do the same. He tells us in the Lord’s Prayer that we are to pray “forgive us our sin as we forgive those that sin against us”.

Here in this verse God tells us that He doesn’t even want our offering or gifts until we have taken care of un-forgiveness. It does not say if we have ought against our brother what is does say is if our brother has ought against us. Have we done something to offend our brother? We are the one at fault. God tells us leave our gift and go to our brother and ask forgiveness.

God calls for a life of forgiveness and shows or gives us the example by forgiving us.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for members of the congregation battling physical illness or emotional struggles, or facing spiritual needs. Ask God to minister to them in miraculous ways.

Feb 17 - - - Saved from and for.

Acts 2:21 - And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

What does it mean “to be saved”? You can be saved from something and you also can be saved for something. I believe that this scripture is speaking of both. Being saved from the punishment of sin and being saved for the reward of heaven. Salvation is for all who will call on the name of the Lord.

So my question would by HAVE YOU CALLED ON THE NAME OF THE LORD? Are you saved from the punishment of sin and are you saved for the reward of heaven?

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that our church services will be marked by displays of supernatural power be it in healings, spiritual gifts, and lives that are dramatically changed by Jesus Christ.

Feb 16 - - - Taking off and putting on

Hebrews 12:1-2 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

When you run a race you need to dress for it. You would not run a race dressed in your Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes you would put on your running shorts and track shoes.

Same is true in our daily walk with the lord. We need to take something off and we need to put something on. We need to take off sin and those things that so easily entangle us and then we are to put on “perseverance” and “the love of Jesus who is the author and perfector of our faith”.

See you in church

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that visitors to the church will sense the love and compassion of Christ, expressed through every member of the congregation.

Feb 15 - - - Keep on Keeping on

Galatians 6:9 (NRSV) - Let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up.

How many times have we tried to help a person only to feel they didn’t appreciate it or we feel they have taken advantage of us?

Well this scripture tells us to keep on keeping on. Keep doing what is right. It is like planting seeds. When we plant seed we expect a harvest. The same is true when we help a person we expect them to be grateful and a thank you would be nice but harvest never comes at the same time you plant the seed we must wait.

So keep on keeping on, planting seed of good will helping those that need help because we have the promise that the harvest will come.

I would rather receive my reward in heaven then a simple thank you here on earth.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that Jesus will be at the center of every ministry, service, and event that takes place within the church and congregation.

Feb 14 - - - Soar like an eagle

Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Renew means to be made new again. When I see the word renew I think of the car shows were they take these old car and renew them or restore them. They take the worn pieces off and clean all the rust off and replace them with new or newly repainted parts until the car look just like it did when it came off the assembly line. Brand new.

The Word of God tells us that when we become a Christian we become renewed. Everything that does not look like Jesus is taken off and replaced with everything that looks like Jesus. The bible says we are “being made into the very image of Jesus” a new creation in the Lord Jesus Christ. The 3rd chapter of John says we are born again.

That in itself is enough to make a person “soar on wings like eagles; run and not grow weary, walk and not be faint”.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the women in our church will serve as leaders and role models of strength, maturity, and ministry at the church, in their families, and in the community.

Feb 13 - - You must be born again

John 3:3 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Today is my birthday. I am 78 years old today. I was born February 13 1936 and I was born again January 1 1970. Both births are important. My first birth is important because I could not have had my second birth without my first birth. My second birth is important because my first birth would have been for nothing apart from my second birth.

Don.t ask me to say that again (LOL).

Just a thought

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the men in our church will have a powerful impact on its ministries, and that they will provide godly leadership in their homes, the church, and throughout the community.

Feb 12 - - Why are so Many Unhappy?

Psalm 70:4 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified. Psalm 98:4 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. 1 Thessalonian 5:16 Rejoice evermore.

When we turn on the T V we are told that if we buy this make of car we will be happy. That if we eat this certain hamburger or wash our hair with this certain shampoo that we will be happy.

Believe me I have eaten the hamburger and washed my hair with the shampoo and they have nothing to do with being happy all this has to do with is selling merchandise?

Happiness Comes From Inner Contentment. Abraham Lincoln said, "People are about as happy as they make up their minds they want to be" Someone else once said, "No man is happy who does not want to be” and another said, "It's not the place or the condition, but it is the mind alone that make a person happy or unhappy.

True happiness comes from knowing Jesus. I love the little song we would sing as a child.

"Happiness Is The Lord" ----By Ira Stanphill

Happiness is to know the Savior, Living a life within His favor
Having a change in my behavior, Happiness is the Lord

Happiness is a new creation, Jesus and me in close relation
Having a part in His salvation, Happiness is the Lord

Real joy is mine, no matter if teardrops start I've found the secret It's Jesus in my heart

Happiness is to be forgiven, Living a life that's worth the livin'
Taking a trip that leads to heaven, Happiness is the Lord

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that God will bless the children of the church, protecting them from harm and helping them to grow strong in the Lord as they prepare for a lifetime of serving Christ.

Feb 11 - - God Wants You To Be Happy

Psalm 70:4 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.
Psalm 98:4 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
1 Thessalonian 5:16 Rejoice evermore.

Over and over in the bible it tells us that God wants you to be Happy. We have so much and so many thing that we can be happy for.

I love the old church gatherings where the preacher would say “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so”. A time of testimony, a time of giving back to God in praise, thanking Him for Hid abundance of blessing we receive every day.

We live in a great country with freedom that most of the world does not experience. In a country that is so blessed of God it is difficult to understand why most of the people are so unhappy and a great number of them being Christians.

Could it be we are looking at what we do not have instead of what we do have?

I’ll leave you with this verse for today. "The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:22

What is it that you can thank God for today?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that the youth in our church will stand strong for Christ in their schools and with their friends. Ask God to help each young person to follow His plan for their lives, both now and in the years to come.

Feb 10 - - Having faith in faith

Luke 17:6 And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

I don’t know the number of times that those around me told me that what I needed was more faith but when I look in the bible it tells me all I need is mustard seed faith.

I believe the problem is that we are trying to put our faith in our faith. If I can just believe harder. Our faith is not what moves the sycamine tree. You can believe that the tree will move till Jesus comes back but most likely it will not move. But if you put that seed faith in Jesus and believe that Jesus can and will move the tree then look out for falling timber.

It is not faith in moving the tree that moves the tree but faith in Jesus that moves the tree.

What do you think?

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray for the shut-ins in our church, as well as those who are widowed and living alone. Ask God to bless and encourage them, anointing their lives with power for ministry as well as help for the needs they face daily.

Feb 9 - - Seed Faith

I thought we might take a break from the book of John for a few days. Today I thought we might look at faith.

Luke 17:6 And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

A seed on it's own or by itself in really noting. It does not have the power to move a tree or anything. The seed must be planted and allowed to grow.

The other day I saw this tree that was allowed to grow against a house. It had grown so large that it busted the foundation and even moved the house several inches. What we need to understand is that this tree once was only a seed.

I can take a seed, say a tomato seed and eat the seed and I will still be hungry. But I can plant the seed and allow it to grow and when it is grown I can eat its fruit and be full. Not only will I be full but I can feed it to my family and they can be full also. I can also shear it with my neighbor and they can be full. What I am trying to say is that the seed must be planted.

The seed of faith must be planted in the Lord Jesus Christ. Then the seed will take on all the power that is in Jesus.

Now how good is that? - - - - See you in church

Pray for the Church. If revival is going to come it will come through the believer. Pray that believers throughout the church will grow in rela-tionship with Christ as they follow the path of discipleship.
