I agree. I wanted to share with the team today how much I love kickboxing. As a mom of boys, they love seeing a "girl" who is strong, focused, & happy doing this type of exercise. Awesome.

I just joined the team this morning and I am so excited to find other people that like Kickboxing as much as I do. I have been working out with a trainer 2 times a week kickboxing with him for 15 to 30 min then lifting weights for the remainder of the time. I have also gone to 3 kickboxing classes but would like to do more. Can anyone suggest any great video's that I can use at home?

Hi Samantha - That's it girl, you've caught the KB bug and it's tenacious! KB is my absolute favorite exercise - I would rather be Kickboxing than almost anything else in the world. Glad you liked it - stick with it.

I took my first cardio kickboxing class on Saturday and OMG it was amazing!!!!! I have to say though, that I am still seriously sore! I spin regularly but the kickboxing made me use muscles I never have! Cant wait until next Sat!!

this weekend we ate out twice. we hardly ever eat out so this is really unusual. i feel pretty guilty about it too. so this afternoon i've decided I'm going to the gym for some extra cardio.

Hi everyone, just joined the team. I started kickboxing about 3 years ago. I really enjoy the challenge. The first year I lost 10 pounds but didn't have the diet under control and gained it back. I joined Spark people in March of this year. The nutrition tracking and regular kickboxing has really paid off. I take a class twice a week and do other cardio 2 other times per week.

Did a focus mitt workout today with my boxing buddy Valerie. We have so much fun with this workout together - it's so satisfying to actually make contact and hear the glove smack against the mitt. And best of all - it burns lots of calories.

How is everyone doing in their classes and home DVD workouts?

I pushed through my 2 favorite classes (CardioSculpt & KickBoxing) this morning with an upset stomach and did really well while I was actually working out. Fifteen minutes after class I was almost sick so I went home took some pepto and slept for 2 hours. I feel better now, but the day is pretty much gone, so I'll be busy tomorrow.

Hey all,
Sidney, the class sounds fun! I am going to start a Krav Maga class in the fall when my kids start preschool, its a killer good defense system and the gym combines it with cross fit which I hear is a great work out. Keep up the class and you will be a tougher chick then Jennifer Garner, was at least as tough.

Hey Team - Sorry I haven't been here in a while.

My KB instructor is taking a 3 week trip to her home in Venezuela. Her legal status in the U.S. prohibited her traveling home for more than 5 years.

She promises new music and workouts as she will spend time with her Sensay (after a 5 year absence - she is quite excited) As you can imagine, her students are NOT happy at all.

Be careful with weighted gloves, they seriously increase the potential for hyper-extending the elbow. Keep the punches within your normal range, don't reach, or throw your hands forward with the weight but keep firm control.

Sorry I haven't been on much but I been busy with my kids last week of school and they been having parties and gradations too.As two of my pre preschooler are now kindergartners.They look so cute in their little caps walking up to get their awards and certificate.So now I have all of them home from school for the summer.I need to rethink how I am going to workout with all of them home.But other wise things are good.I am just glad that things are going to slow down and I can get back on track.Well glad to see all of you's doing good.

I broke my arm on Saturday. It's just a hairline fracture by the elbow, no cast (thank goodness) but it still sucks! No work outs until the weekend and then, no upper body, no kickboxing, just stationary bike or elliptical.

I had to cut my stay with Theresa and new baby short, which is the worst part. He'll never a week old again and I'm missing it.

Anyway - Hope everyone had a great weekend. Tell me all about it.

hi surly. the gloves are 1.5lbs each. i've been slowing down my movements so as to NOT injure myself but i'm used to 1lbs--not that i notice a huge difference per se.

BTW - I am driving to St. Augustine (4 hour drive) tonight because my daughter is scheduled for a C-section at 7am tomorrow morning!

I don't use weighted gloves - I had tendon surgery in my right elbow/forearm a year ago - so I can't help you there. How much do the gloves weigh?

I had a KB instructor last year who had us hold 3lb dumbbells during part of the class. Personally, I didn't like it and since I was rehabbing my elbow I passed.

Yesterday I was feeling light headed and eating a bar and drinking some PowerAde Zero didn't really help. I felt better after lunch (Grilled chicken w/ lots of salad greens), but today I feel fuzzy again. I'm wondering if I've got a slight case of vertigo. I had a bout of it 3 years ago (freaked me out!) and it lasted for about 5 days.

This is NOT Good - DH and I are driving 4 hours next Tuesday night to see the birth of our GS at 7am Wednesday morning - I don't have time to be sick or off my game.

Surly Girl, I love my Saturdays too! Our morning class goes from 9:30-12:30 but we socialize alot but its still a hard class!
The fight Saturday took forever, one of my friends won and the other one lost. It was really sad!! I am going to class tonight at the gym where the guy lost...bummer

On a good note I had a good run this morning. Im tryin to go faster and added some mailbox sprints at the end.
Im up to 2 sets of 10 push-ups and it took EVERYTHING I had;-)
My daughter is graduating from Kindergarten tomorrow night! She is growing up so fast!

Saturday, I did a 5k and a Biggest Loser Last Chance Workout (and THAT was AWFUL, or great, depending on how you look at it - VERY leg-intense!!) so yesterday
my legs - and actually, my whole body, but mostly my legs - were SCREAMING...

Sunday was full of aleve and a hot bath and stretching and plenty of water...

tonight is lift class with the Biggest Loser instructor from Saturday (he's one of my favorites, so I really just did the class to support him, but WOW!!), so I'm sure by tomorrow, I'll be sore again, but in a good way... LOL...

he does a shadow box class on Thursday that I always want to try, but it's so early that I usually can't get there in time, but I'm gonna bring my clothes with me to work, just in case we can leave a bit early... 10 minutes would be enough...

I was able to do the core workout last night. I plan to try the Lower body tonight. I hope the body is ready for that.

Did a Spin Class this morning, now I'm off to the airport to p/u my mom (who was off visiting friends in NY), then lunch and shopping.

I'm so glad you had fun last night at the show! I have fun watching the guys from Jeff Foxworthy shows! They always make me laugh the same way; where my cheeks hurt! emoticon

I did my kickboxing video yesterday afternoon and now onto a walk with friends! Have a great day!

Jeff (fa-fa) Dun-HAM (inside joke) was FANTASTIC ! I laughed so much and so hard my cheeks - on my face ;-) hurt.
After the show we grabbed a bite at a local sports bar (Bokampers) and I had the most delicious Veggie Burger I've ever eaten !

Today I am off to the gym - Cardio/Sculpt class, then KickBoxing class - (KB class is 90 minutes on Saturday - WooHoo). Then a group of us go to lunch (at a great salad place) - I LOVE SATURDAY !

Taking Wednesday off from my workout schedule, because DH & I have tickets to see Jeff Dunham ! He's the ventriloquist with Walter (the old man) Achmed (the terrorist) Jose (the jalapeño on a stick) and Peanut (a purple goofy little character).

My husband doesn't like to go to shows, so this is a big deal for us. He's only been to shows out in Vegas when I drag him.

I usually take Friday as a rest day, so I'll workout Friday after work so I don't feel guilty or like a slug for skipping Wednesday.

I am doing TH/Sun--Lower body; Fr/Mon--Upper body; Sat/Tues--core.
I'm currently using 3 different DVD's while I learn the moves:
1. Kathy Kaehler --about 8-10 minutes
2. SP's Fit, Firm and Fired up--about 10 minutes
3. Jackie Warner's Power circuit training--15 minutes
I follow this with at least 20 minutes cardio using either 10 minute solution's Cardio kickboxing, or one of Jillian Michael's DVD's

I received a new strength DVD and tried it! It's called 30 Minute Fitness - Strength by Kelly Coffey-Meyer. Hopefully I spelled her name correctly! Loved it! It was a 5 minute warm up with 25 minutes of strength training!

SurlyGirl- I LOVE my Tuesday night class too!
See MAine- It is getting very humid here but I just hate treadmill running. Good luck on your new countdown, You Can Do IT!!

I got a nice morning run in today. Im trying to find an outfit for the fight Saurday night but didn't have any real luck today. Ill give it one more try Thursday morning.

I am in love with Coke 0, I cant help it. I went 3 years with no soda and then I started having diet as a treat and soon discovered Coke 0…Luv it!!;-)

Im off to bring the kids to Ju-jitsu and then Ill tuck them in bed and head out to my KB class.

Well the best thing about Tuesday is it means Monday is over !

Work should be quite stressful today (we're on the verge of closing).

Tonight is Cardio/Sculpt & Pilates/Meditation

Happy Monday everyone!

It was a busy day for me at work but I managed through it! Now it's time for me to Spark! I'm going to start strength training again in a few days as well as my kickboxing! The weather will be too dreadful to venture out into it willingly so I'll be exercising indoors for the next few months!

Lots and lots of exercise today - biking, swimming, biking, biking, boxing (on the heavy bag) ST, abs, biking.

Happy Monday to everyone!
I got the house back in order today and dinner is prepped for tonight. That means I have a good start!
I workout at two different martial arts schools. One is called Black Trunks and they are a bit of a bad a$$ group. There is one other girl that comes in regular. They offer Muay Thai kickboxing 2 nights a week and some Saturday mornings. The instructor works out with us. My kids also take Ju-Jitsu there. Then I go to my other gym 2 nights a week. The instructor doesn't workout with us and just really coaches and I get alot of instruction there especially when sparring. Sometimes I stay for the Ju-jitsu class but it makes for a long night when I do that. I try to get in a 3 mile run 4-5 mornings out of the week. That keeps me in shape to spar and keep up with the boys.
This summer Im leaving on a roadtrip for 2 months so my goal is to run everyday.
This Saturday is a big fight at our Arena and 2 of the guys are fighting in the cage(1 from each gym) Im very nervous for them but the excitement in the air is very thick!!

NO - you don't need the bag at all! Even if a video shows hitting a bag, just do the moves and work on good form. I never use a bag at home and rarely use one at the gym when I KB.

I don't now, but I would really love to start. I thought there were some online videos I could do, but I guess I would need the kicking bag. I plan to find somewhere this summer and I think they offer it at my school.

My gym offer KB class but also offers a Ringside class which has more of an upper body focus with lots of punching. It doesn't hurt our instructor is extremely high energy and motivating.
I work out really early in the morning-before there are scheduled classes, so twice a week I go in and punch by myself.
It must be working-my husband offered to by me a punching bag for our mini gym in our basement!

My gym has a KB class 2x a week. I would KB 7 days a week if the class was offered. KB is my favorite workout and always gets my endorphins raging.

Do you KB Steph ?

The KB instructor can't teach the class tonight, so in case there's not a sub, a bunch of us have decided to box tonight. We've got our gloves and focus mits and we'll do our own thing.

Last time we did this, half the class ended up joining in and it was super fun.

I have the day off today, so I'm gonna ride my bike to the community pool, do some laps and maybe get some sun (the Vitamin D is good for you).

Hi, I know what you mean fitting it all in. I had been struggling to get my running in with my daily workouts, but I think I am back on track. My sister gave me her really nice treadmill. I work long hours and live in the country so for me to run outside after work means adding on a half hour drive time, so I really try to do all my workouts at home.
I love kickboxing so I know it would be the last thing to go from my twice a day workout goals. emoticon
