I'm doing something different ....
Over the next 8 weeks I am doing Cathe Circuits (or premixes that are circuits) alternating days with cardio ... taking Sabbath off.

I am only doing ONE circuit workout and ONE cardio workout per week.
I HAVE NEVER DONE THAT.
I am actually liking it.
I thought I would be bored.....but, NO..... by the third workout of the week I know the next moves and am enjoying it MORE.
Imagine that? emoticon

Hello. I need to lose about 20 pounds before my daughter's wedding in May. I have cleaned up my diet and am doing a version of Cathe's 16-week maximum weight loss rotation. I have been doing Cathe workouts for a long, long time and have have them all. Yesterday I did Power Max and today I will do IMAX. I'm finding these older workouts refreshing after doing Xtrain and the newest 2013 workouts.

I'm doing it for two weeks the end of this month.

I think I will do the full X-Train / Low Impact rotation next year -- after I finish the Long Run of STS. That will be my longest commitment for a workout rotation EVER.
But, I really want to give it a try. Those workouts are just too good to rush through.
I've done the 3month rotation a number of times .... it feels wonderful.

I was reading the X-Train rotations and think that the XT/LI one will suit me just fine ~

Hi Gang. I have been using Cathe for about 16 years now. Just got the new DVD's in the mail. I wrote up my own 30day program using them and start tomorrow with Rockout Knockout. I love kickbox and after previewing I know this will be one of my faves. I have been side lined with a torn achilles for the past 2 months so it'll feel awesome getting my groove back! ~ Susan

Just tried Rockout Knockout. emoticon OMG...this is a killer 55 minute workout. I torched 473 calories. This one is tougher than Xtrain's kickboxing workout. The combos are really tough.

WELL, I must say -- I think I might have made a HUGE MISTAKE....

In the spring I did NOT preorder the new 8 workouts for ... like $79.00
because I didn't particularly care for the last two sets Low Impact / X-Train.
I figured I had enough of the other Cathe ones (all of them in fact)....and would just be happy with them.
Well..... I've been previewing the new workouts and think that I could have really done well to have pre-ordered.

I did get the Party Rockin Step workouts at a discount ... both for $19.00.
After previewing -- I will be adding a few others to my wish list for future purchase.

Great Glutes
Lean Legs & Abs
and possibly Flex Train.

SIGH.... at the regular price.

The beauty of Cathe is that she can be modified to suit everyone's needs.
Lighter weights, lower step, no step, bands....it's all adjustable to suit one's needs.

I've been doing 4+ Cathe's a week. Wonderful.
Every Friday is PUB (Pyramid Upper Body).
For the last 4 weeks I've been using lighter weights (for me)
The next 4 weeks I will be adding 1# wrist weights.to every exercise, in STS style.
I can't believe how weak I've gotten over the last three years.
12# biceps curls are very difficult - doable, but MAN - drain me out.
I intend to take the next 4 weeks and focus on upping these weights toward Cathe Strong.

FitArtist - I think I may have a couple of those Cathe DVDs you mentioned (I will have to look through my very large assortment that I recently purchased - ha ha).

Lamoura - just watched the youtube link you provided - wow! Kind of reminds me of Turbo Jam and/or Turbo Fire (Chalene Johnson) with some of those moves. I may have to look it up on collagevideo.com -

Since I also have knee issues and a bruised heel, I have been loving the All Out Low Impact HiiT, Supercuts, and I do the Less Impact premixes from CrossFire and Too The Max.
I also like Low Max. If it's too hard on the knee it can be done on a 6 inch (instead of an 8 inch) step.
Turbo Barre is great for legs and so is the KickMax lo impact timesaver premix. It includes the leg conditioning drills at the end.
I also like some of her older dvdd like Low Impact Step
Basic Step and Body Fusion has some great bonus workouts on it too. 20 minutes Upper Body, 20 Minute Lower Body and a 20 minute Abs workout. All can be made more difficult or easier by adjusting the weight. I like the lower body workout. There are a few squats and lunges, but then you do mostly floor work with resistance tubing.

After purchasing XTrain during the May sale (and other Cathe DVDs) I finally started using them. Ha ha. I had reinjured my left knee so it was a while before it dawned on me that I could work out my upper body. I started with the Burn Sets-Shoulders, etc., and then last night did the Cardio Leg Blast. I modified all of the cardio segments and didn't do most of the leg exercises due to so many lunges which I'm still having a hard time doing.

Any recommendations on Cathe DVDs that may have a great leg strength workout but less stress on the knees? I love her style of teaching and while I can do the squats, step ups and some of the other chapters, I wondered if she had another DVD that would be better suited for my leg strengthening. Thanks!

I'm currently doing a BFL-Style Challenge.
Started 07-14-13 ... will end round #1 on Oct 5th.

Will take a rest week - then right into BFL-Style Challenge #2 which will take me into 2014
10-13-13 thru 01-04-14

Excited for change ~

I'm doing Cathe for all upper body workouts; some cardio; and for lower body - Cathe leg conditioning with Physique 57. No lifting of weights for lower body.
I'm going for definition, not bulk.

Meals are Vegan 4x/d
08:00a BREAKFAST - fruit / grain based
12:00p Lunch - legume / salad
04:00p Supper - veggie / grain based
08:00p Snack - fruit / nut

This is my second week and I've lost a few pounds, but the best part is that I am feeling WONDERFUL. As a result, I end up doing more throughout the day, which is the ultimate goal of fitness -- to make life easier so we can enjoy more.

I think counter pushups define the deltoids better as well....at least, for me.
Probably because I am using the right muscles when I am not having wrist pain during the exercise.

I started doing COUNTER-PUSHUPS a few years ago. Regular on the floor type are impossible for me (scoliosis limiting)...even on my knees...and my wrists hurt in that position.
BUT, I discovered that I can do pushups off my kitchen counter. Perfect height.
Stand facing the counter.
Step a good 2-3ft back from the counter.
Lean forward with hands on the edge of counter (mine is rounded which is a PLUS)
PUSH UP

I do 10 every time I go into the kitchen. By the end of the day I've completed over 60.

Triceps pushups are easy in the same way -- only reversed.

Hello to all Cathe fans.

I have started STS and I quickly learned that even on my knees I can only manage a fraction of her pushups- Yikes (of course I have 220ish pounds to lift). I hope that that improves quickly.

Lori- I imagine that would be fun (to put the workouts together) and take a great deal of time. I look forward to the next BLC round.

Hello Cathe Fans-
This week I took another plunge and ordered STS on the daily deal and I picked up another dvd on a different deal this week. I may need to put myself on Daily Deal restrictions. It can be addictive.
I am excited though. I did Low Impact Hiit today and worked on the One Rep Maxes

Lori- Wow your stats are great. Congratulations. I see that you have done the BLCs as well. I just tried that the last round. It's awesome- a great idea. I enjoy the challenges.

Hello!
I hope that this group is still active because I just became addicted to Cathe's DVDs and I was so excited to see a group here. I have been a gym member for a long time and I will continue to be because I often go with my DH. However, I seem to be at a "busy" phase of my life where I am more likely to fit my workout in at home. If the Cathe Fans have migrated elsewhere, please let me know where and I will check it out.
I am taking and modifying Cathy's March 2013 rotation into something that fits the DVDs that I have. Have some of you used her rotations? If so, what did you think of them?

I pulled out StretchMax yesterday.

What a wonderful workout.

I'm finishing my first month of Xtrain. I love the program however there are 2 exercises that I dread:

1) Air Jacks - Yikes emoticon
2) Hip Corkscrews - I don't even try. emoticon

I have some major muscle definition going on. emoticon

I decided at X-Train that I had my Cathe collection complete.

(I haven't even had time to do the X-Trains yet. My back was out when they first came and I'm now focused on P-57 barre work to strengthen the spinal erectors... Hoping to do X-Train in April)

The mini meals; it's like having an appetizer then never getting to the second course. lol A teaser of a meal to say the least.

Right now, I'm following the Primal blueprint. I am trying to do slower paced workouts 4 days per week, and two higher intensity days per week with a HiiT and weights.(and higher carbs). Today I did Cathe (higher intensity day).

I enjoyed her barre workout as well. I've done it a couple of times... from the Low Impact series. Maybe I'll throw that in this week as well.

Absolutely Cathe is one of my favourite instructors. If not my FAVE!

I don't feel old, but 57 is definitely getting up there.
Exercise IS the fountain of youth...I firmly believe that.

Did a Firm Workout this morning. Firm Strength.

Yesterday I set up a new rotation.
It is ECLECTIC.
I figured it was time to get more out of my workouts.
I've made a huge investment over the years - now I need to USE more of them.
(I've always worked out 5-6x/wk...but, like with food - I get into a rut sometimes. Like lately)
I only have SOLID workouts in my collection...I've purchased many duds, but they were all donated to either the library or GoodWill. So, I'm going to be using more of what I have, because I've learned that there really is nothing new under the sun...and I am very finite in the kind of instructors I like.
So, my eclectic workout is Weights one day and Barre-type the next with a day of yoga weekly. After a day of sitting I still attempt to get in at least 30 minutes of some kind of dance or kickbox workout in the evening.

I will say that eating fewer times a day gives MORE TIME for other things besides preparing and eating. Think of all the time we wasted with all that food preparation and snacking.
I definitely feel better eating fewer meals a day.
And I LIKE leaving the table feeling satiated. The thing I liked the least about all those small meals was never feeling filled and always feeling hungry. It's nice to be free from that.

Yes, we must remember that many of our forums are open.
~Cathe Fans~ IS an open forum.
Anyone can read our posts.
It's unfortunate that so many of us have gone to private pages.
I believed that our blogs and comments were helpful, but - in my case - it was not safe to continue doing that.
Maybe sometime in the future I might open it up again, but for now - private it is.

I'm just about done buying DVDs also. I have a TON!
Just waiting for XTrain.

I'm really loving the 2 meals per day plan. I am losing weight fairly easily now. That's the only thing I changed. Eating the same foods. Same amounts, etc. Just changed it from the 5-6 small meal thing to 2.

I just checked out pump and combat.
Looks interesting.

I've pretty much found my nitch and am pretty sure that X-Train will be my last workout purchase in the gym-style line. I have so many - like you all - I've bought into many, many workouts looking for the perfect thing for me.

I was led to Physique 57 which I absolutely love.
Barre workouts are my new thing.
I got mine on QVC where they were 4 workouts for ~$43.00
So I have pretty much what I need.

Laura,
interestingly I gained a bit of weight over the last three years (menopause was ugly for me)...
I have also gone down to two meals with an evening snack.
I find that I feel TONS better, however, the weight isn't going anywhere for me.
I am doing the 'pump' styles though with more reps and lighter weights - just by doing whatever workout I have plugged in and going faster than their beat, since I'm using lighter weights most of the time.
I actually feel stronger...with the Barre workouts I know my legs are getting more toned and I have a lot less overall pain. That's a good thing.
I turned 57 over the weekend. Anything that gives me the ability to NOT have joint pain after working out is a good thing for me. Zumba is a favorite - just fun.

Lamoura - Whenever everyone wants to start a Cathe X-Train challenge - I'd be in for that.

Nice chatting with you girls. It's been a while.

And, Yes - I think there are fewer people steadily posting on SP.
I think some have private teams, and some have private pages.
I had to go private on my page a few years ago because of a stalker. She was following me around the site and I felt I needed to eliminate the access to my page. I'm also more careful about what I post - there are so many rules in the workforce anymore. One needs to have more caution.

I do think that SparkPeople is the best place for me in regard to health and fitness support.
My FB page is for friends that live out of town.
It's really nice to keep up with them after all these years....
But, mostly - they don't 'get' the fitness thing.
That's what's so nice about SP.... we are all interested in the same thing -- albeit, we frequently take different paths to get to the same destination.

Yeah totally plyox was one of the reasons I had to get it again emoticon I did do the full 90 days of P90x but I find I like doing a full body workout one day the next cardio...I find with the right program if I lift heavy enough and push hard enough I get just as sore as when I do just 2 body parts per day. Know what you mean about those intense workouts. If I do to many of them in a roll I get burnt out and most of the time I get sick.

Ouch 50lbs. Glad you were able to lose 16lbs! Thats awesome. I find that if I can stay healthy and follow Chris Powells Carb cycle I lose great but there for awhile I could not stick to it...I was eating anything and everything...now I am taking psyllium husk and pgx and I can stick to a healthy eating program. Now to just get rid of this head cold so I can leave the salty foods alone.

Yeah the BMI does not take in muscle mass!

Some people really like tapout but it drives me nuts...I like workouts like Cathes...put together well their all in sink, that way I don't get confused and mess up my form with an exercise.

I like P90X. I've actually done it 3 times. However, I did start doing different cardio workouts instead of Cardio X, etc. I LOVE Plyo X. It's great!
I like P90X Plus workouts. I have P90x 2, but it is REALLY HARD! I can't do it yet. Gotta lean up first. I'm too heavy to do a lot of that stuff.
INSANITY is also too hard for me to do every day. I can do a workout here and there, but if I try and do 5 days in a row, I really run out of steam. I think intense workouts like that are best left at 2-3 times per week.

I found out why I gained 50 pounds this year (all of a sudden). Insulin resistance. I'm pretty sure it was caused by eating 5-6 small meals per day. I couldn't lose a single pound. Frustrating! To say the least!
The doc did a bunch of tests.... my fasting blood glucose looks just fine on paper. But she agreed that it really doesn't show a problem until you already have diabetes (or close to it)
Then I started the Warrior diet. I still eat the same calories in a day, but I only eat it in two meals. All of a sudden I'm down 16 pounds. Finally! Losing 1/2 - 1 pound per day.
Got a ways to go before I'm back down to where I was. But I'm so relieved to find something that's working!
It's funny. According to BMI I'm OBESE! lol But I can wear size 12-14 right now. Still can't quite get into all of my regular clothes (8-10). But even though I'm unhappy with my appearance, I certainly don't look OBESE! My GOD! lol. It really doesn't take into account that we may have some muscle in here.

So, maybe I won't bother with TAPOUT then. lol

The music on Body Beast is hard core so Pump because I like the music better seems to always get picked for the workout of the day lol. So I haven't done Body Beast yet...started tapout but I didn't lke that the people in the video didn't stay in sink with one another and the camera doesn't stay on one person it goes form person to person to the instructor which it makes it hard for me to follow. emoticon And I am really thinking hard about JNL fusion as it looks really good. Me as well I find it hard to stick to a 90 day program thats why I ended up selling my P90x set and then I kicked myself in the butt thinking why did I sell that set I could have just did it for 30 days and cycled it with another program so I bought another set. Lucky I sold the first set for what I bought it for so no loss! emoticon

I saw Body Beast. Looks good.
I also saw Tapout. I would like to get it also... and JNL I saw advertised in Muscle & Fitness hers. Also looks good. Would love to have all of them . lol

The only problem is aI have a problem sticking with 90 day programs. I get bored after 30 days and seem to stray from the programs. lol


I think Xtrain is 60 days... so I'm gonna try and see that one through.

The Tapout workout looks like a blast. I amy get that one next... I love that kind of stuff.

Lol I can already tell you what I think of Pump as I have done a few of the dvds already just not for the full 3 months...(mind you I am just doing Pump until Jan. then it is Xtrian..or when everyone else does xtrain here in Cathe Fans emoticon ) I LOVE IT!! The music is old school rock and man do the workouts make you push ( at least for me!) I look like this when I am done emoticon lol.

Awesome workouts! Is that the turbo fire starter kit with low HiiT 20 and 25? If so then yep I got the set.

Did you get Body Beast? And Tapout? And have you heard of JNL Fusion?

Oh cool! Let me know how you like PUMP.
Right now, I'm doing a steady state cardio on one day, then doing HiiT and a weight training workout the next day. Using Cathe step workouts, Turbo Fire for HiiT and Amy Dixon Breathless, and Cathe weight dvds. Just mixing it up. Mostly waiting for Xtrain.
I'm coddling my right knee doing the Low Impact Hiit.
Have you seen those? The TF Low HiiT workouts? You can buy them as extras on Beachbody.com.

I just finished up The Firm Express set ( I was doing them in double workouts to make it a 40 minute workout instead of doing only 20 minutes) loved that set do you have it? I was also throwing in other short workouts on cardio day...like Les Mills Pump step, Kelly C.M 30 minute workouts...do you have any of those?

Oh yeah if you do order Les Mills Pump make sure you get the upgrade...the upgrade package comes with a kickboxing workout a step workout ( that I just LOVE!) and a wicked hard care ab workout.
