Needed all the posts to read this morning for some added inspiration to stay true to plan. Yesterday was hard. I think I had too many small bites, might put me out of Ketosis again. No matter. I want to be at 30 pounds lost by Friday. 4/10 will be my 3 months anniversary and I want to be at 30 pounds well within that window. I can live with 30 pounds in 3 months. At 10 pounds a month I can do 60 pounds by my Bday in June.

Off to drop kids off at school and go to the Gym to walk. I have really enjoyed my walking routine. I did not go to Curves last week but intend to at least do 3 days walking treadmill and 2 days at Curves this week.

KELLY,

as far as loose skin is concerned, I noticed several things during my weight loss:

The skin loosens gradually, until there is not enough fat left to "hold things up". That's when you notice wrinkles and folds in all kinds of places. The folds give way to more wrinkles, as more body fat melts away. And then, suddenly, it all smoothes out again, as if the excess skin just shrunk.

Especially around the neck area, it makes a big difference to stay well hydrated, or even to just apply a lot of moisturizer.

Clearly, the residual damage depends on how far we have stretched our skin, how much excess fat we are still carrying, and how old we are. However, although it looks like things first get worse, they also seem to get better, over time !

Highest weight ever: 220 pounds. Followed the IP protocol from June to December 2012 and lost 58 pounds.

In Maintenance mode since January 2013. Have been able to maintain a lot of my weight loss, but regained about 20 pounds over 2 years

Time to take another run at "reducing"

Hi all ~ another holiday down and today I really struggled. I was so hungry today and no idea why. Everything tasted bad to me but I choked down all that I needed to fuel my body and stay on protocol. Hoping tomorrow will be better and that I will find my taste buds back to normal. I decided to change my ticker around today to try to stay motivated. Figured every bit helps.

I am going to try to add some walking into my work week this week and maybe some light weight arm exercises. Not too much but just a little something to change things up. To those who have hit goal or are maintaining, do you mind sharing if you experienced loose skin and whether it has tightened up a little now that you are at goal.

Funfit~ I am sure your appointment will go well. You have lost so much and it shows in more than just lab results. You should be very proud of yourself. You have almost lost 100 lbs on this diet and you have done it while dealing with life and learning about your dietary triggers along the way too. No matter what the Dr says "we" here all know how hard you have worked and what you have accomplished. emoticon

Started IP Dec 2011 at highest weight 211. Lowest IP weight has been 157. Stopped and started a few times. Suggest not stopping unless you have to. So much harder to get started again and again.

ADAMG23,
I understand what you are up against. I've not eaten for emotional reasons, or comfort in the past, at least I don't think so. However I've eaten as entertainment. Something to do, perhaps something to do while watching T.V.

I have to watch myself too, one day and one meal at a time. It would be nice if I didn't have to think about watching myself, but I have to. For me the simplest question I ask myself before eating is:
"Are you hungry?"

If I'm not actually hungry, then don't eat. That is the hardest rule I have to follow.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. This weekend for me was not the best. I just got overly emotional after a long work week (I currently work 2 jobs during the week and one on sundays) and just resorted to my old tricks of finding comfort in food. I never realized how emotional eating and food was to me until I really took a look at what set me off. I was just overly exhausted from work and just became an automatic tennis ball machine, shoveling anything into my mouth. This occurring made me miss the structure of phase 1, for some reason I didn't feel the need to cheat. Now that I am in maintenance, I don't have my safety net. I have to make the decisions for myself and take responsibility for them. This is really scary and real life. I figured I have to take the lifestyle of eating healthy, much like an alcoholic takes an approach. one day at a time, one meal at a time. For this meal, I will eat healthy and right because I know it does my body right. Not focus about the stress at work and take the emotional BS out of eating. We need to eat, but we don't need to eat crap. I need to focus on this because, otherwise I just wasted 6 months of my life to lose the weight and just to regain. I refuse to regain the weight, I will fight everyday if I must. This weekend was rough but its over, now its time to focus on the week ahead and know how to prevent myself from making the same mistake.

Glad to see some familiar faces posting here and some newbies welcome! this is a great resource for all things IP related.

Happy Easter everyone.

Bliss I watched Hungry For Change too, and i loved it. It just enforces my choices and makes me more motivated to keep going and keep my changes. I know that I am so addicted to sugar and refined carbs and it just reminds me to never go down that road again.

We aren't doing our celebration today. My grandsons and daughters are all sick with the stomach crud. The youngest little one and daddy ended up in the ER with dehydration.

One thing I can see is that I do not get sick as often. My daughter wants to learn a healthier life style because they are always so sick. So we are learning together, doing a garden this summer, and I am teaching her Reiki.

IP has changed my life. I am so much more educated and am actually thinking and choosing what I eat now. This is a great journey.

BRINGTHESPARK17,
I go on about a 45 minute walk every day, but no dogs, just me.

Only in the first week on the I.P. diet did I feel dizzy or light headed while walking, and that was really because my body chemistry was half way changed from favoring carbs to favoring burning fat.

You are now about 2 months into the diet, I don't think you'll have any problem walking the dogs. Don't worry about your low calorie intake, the rest of your calories are coming from your long held reserves, and at this point you are probably unlocking them pretty efficiently.

I'm adding a link on running on a low carb diet, not that I recommend running, but it should put your mind at ease about walking dogs on a low carb diet.

I have started a second job that I am really excited about - walking dogs at a doggy day care! It's pretty fast-paced because there are a lot of dogs to be walked so I'm concerned about my low calorie intake. My main job has also moved and now I can walk to work. Add on walking my dog and I walk for a minimum of an hour per day plus now 4 hours on Sat & Sun. Having lost about 40 pounds, I really feel great and want to exercise even more, but I know that's not encouraged on IP.

I had a chat with my coach and she told me not to exert myself and maybe add some protein. I came across the Phase 1 Alternative Plan and I think it could be really good for me at this point in my journey. I have had cheats here and there and still lost weight but I think if I had some relaxed guidelines I could be successful without cheats. Has anyone been on the Alternative Plan or know anything about it?

Angela

Bliss- woooohooo booty shake celebration for your FAST Fifty!!! What was the movie called??

Kelly- those were the two I remember but I will double check to make sure there wasn't any others. If I don't eat it I wouldn't have cared ;) I still need to clarify with peppers. It says colored peppers which is ironic because they all have color. Wondering if that means green bells are a regular and then like the red/yellow/ orange are the occasional or If green is occasional too. I adore adding tomatoes and love roasted Brussels sprouts so those are always my occasional choices. With out rutebagas and peppers I'm going to be eating way too much broccoli, cauliflower and zucchini. It makes sense though based on veggie carb count lists those were higher. Also why they taste good... Sweeter.

Monad- I agree with you 1000% about the changes we need to make for the next generation. My son is two and had never even had juice, let alone a jelly bean! :) He eats WAY better than the typical child because I never want him to struggle as I have. His big treat is a piece if organic whole grain bread with a tiny bit of natural, low sugar fruit spread ;) Easter basket was books, playdoh, etc. BUT, we had someone deliver an Easter basket on our doorstep. A secret surprise from neighbors. It was the first time I have been around candy lately and I just caved... That stupid "just one bite" devil on my shoulder. I didn't rationalize it or anything just grabbed a bite. I think my inner toddler as Bracken says, is fighting to exert CONTROL. I have a choice. That isn't necessarily good but I think it's what happened. It all started after I learned about my two favorite veggies being taken away. Then was traveling for a week and constantly having to not order what I wanted or enjoy my meal without over thinking and worrying. I hate feeling that way. I gave myself permission to order a drink one night. And then I didn't, but I CHOSE not to. Being on IP and avoiding things is a choice we all have to make. Something I heard recently said we make over 1000 decisions every day. I stayed strong in every decision for nearly 3 months. I know I can again. Candy is gone so one less decision to make :)

I am seeing my doctor this Thursday for my annual physical so I will ask for an updated Protocol sheet then but I don't believe bell peppers have been moved to the Occasional list...the rutabagas, maybe, but not the peppers. The new protocol sheet that is floating around may just be one from a center that decided on their own to change some things up because they thought it was a good idea. Lots of coaches do stuff like that because they think they know better than corporate IP. But even that protocol sheet still shows bell peppers as being on the Select list. So don't get all excited about any changes yet. I'll let you know what I find out on Thursday.

S_HAZEL ~ Congratulations! Some clinics allow you to return unused product and some don't. Maybe they would allow you to exchange some of it for bars or drinks that you could use as healthy snacks.

BLISS ~ I too watched that Hungry for Change video. But as I was watching it I realized that it is actually one big infomercial. While there are some truths in it (like sugar being as addictive as cocaine and food companies creating their products so we will buy it & lots of it) the film also pushes to the extreme some products they want you to buy. Sad but true.

ALL ~ I'm stressing myself out about my upcoming physical even though there really isn't any reason for me to be doing that. All my blood work already came back extremely good (cholesterol, blood sugars, etc). So I don't know why I am feeling apprehensive about it and seeming to need food to calm myself. I ended up having to throw a bunch of food items I had purchased in the trash on Friday because they were calling my name from the drawer I had stashed them in. Can't have that stuff in my house or I will eat it when I feel the least bit stressed or tired. Stress/exhaustion = no willpower at all. Back on track Saturday and today is looking good too!

Have a great on-protocol day everyone!

Pearl~ my coach had not told me about those two moving to the occasional list. I am so sad as they are two of my favorites too. I pretty much live on cauliflower, rutebagas, red peppers, zucchini, twice a week green beans, spinach and pickles/cucumbers. So adding more of my go to veggies to the other list will make it really hard for me to.

Any other changes I may not be aware of???

PEARL,

congratulations on your weight-loss achievements so far ! It's not easy to stick to the low-carb protocol, but it's definitely worth fighting the carb temptations around you.

Question: Why are there jelly beans in the house? If the answer is that they are for your son, think this through ! Do you want to grow his "sweet tooth"? Do you want to potentially set him up for the heartache you went through, being young and 250 pounds?

Seriously, I am not picking on you, even if it feels that way while you are reading this. The point is that all of us on this team have learned first-hand how devastating carbs can be, and we have experienced how our lives are changing for the better without them.

While it's not easy for many here to envision a life without starches and sugars, why visit that sense of "deprivation" onto the next generation? If we cut out most starches and refined sugars and raised our children and grandchildren to appreciate the sweetness of fruits and vegetables, they would be just as happy - and a lot better equipped for a healthy life.

Toddlers don't make food purchases. They don't know any better than what we put in front of them. Raise them on starch and sugar, then that's what they consider "normal", and that's what they will ask for. Raise them on vegetables and protein, they won't miss the junk and will look at fruit as a "treat".

Sure, once they start going to school, peer pressure will tempt them to try the starches and sugars other kids are eating. But by then they will be old enough for you to have a conversation about healthy eating with them, and their low-carb eating habits will already be ingrained in them.

Worried about making your kids lead a low-carb life? As long as you provide enough calories, there should not be a problem - otherwise, people could never have raised kids near the Arctic Circle, before we opened convenience stores there.....

Interestingly, our 2 and 4-year old grandchildren will pick the fruit and veggie platter clean and eat all their protein, while mainly ignoring the starch on their plate, except for a nibble of fries or pizza when those are offered.

Their 8-year old sister, on the other hand - given a chance - would eat infinite amounts of any starch, at the exclusion of everything else.... and she is already showing the effects, in the form of belly fat.

Why are they so different in their food preferences? I suspect it's most likely because the older child was raised by a babysitter who offered mainly starch. Later, the mom stayed home with the two younger ones, offering mainly fruit and vegetables....

If we don't break the cycle, the next generation will not be any better off than ours is !

Happy Easter you Gorgeous IP Sparklers!!!

I know itís been quite awhile since Iíve posted here. I hope everyone is feeling happy and healthy! I quickly wanted to tell you about a powerful movie thatís free to view online until midnight today, 3/31/2013. (I just received an email about it and am watching it now - WOW!)Its message is powerful and makes so much sense. It reminds me of that movie a few years ago about the guy who did the personal test/research on eating McDonald's every day, Super Size Me. We, on IP, are fortunate because we have finally LEARNED first-hand about the crazy Western/North American diet that we have been eating for years and how it's been making us FAT and unhealthy for years! But, thank goodness, we are FREE AT LAST from eating in this nutrient depleting ways. We are BLESSED to finally have broken the addiction (or are well on our way) and finally found a way to truly "feed" ourselves.

How AWESOME!!! Take good, good care lovelies - Bliss emoticon

P.S. Okay, so I just finished watching it and I am SOOO HAPPY that I did!! I can't help but want to squeeze and hug myself knowing that I'm on the other side now, the side of health and wellbeing - where before I only wished to feel that way! How wonderfully miraculous! I am ...we are ... with each IP on-Protocol meal, and complimentary choice and thought living in accordance with our heart's deepest desire ... to LIVE Strong, Fit, Lean and Healthy NOW - TODAY! The weight loss IS INEVITABLE! The health benefits are tangible and occurring on a daily basis. I think of how I ate and felt just a mere 3 months ago and how I feed myself and move in my body NOW and already it's like night and day. It's SOO vastly transformational and I'm just a 1/4 of my way to my weight loss goal - but my heart, mind and SPIRIT - are SOARING!!! WOO HOO!!!

I've been away traveling and unable to visit the forum the past couple weeks. Just wondering if anyone else is as bummed as I am that rutebagas and peppers got moved to the occasional veggie list :(. Two of my go-to's. Guess I've had success using them often up til now but I don't like to ignore the protocol direction.

I'm currently at 183 which is great because it seems like I had just celebrated hitting 199! Love this diet! I think I dropped another size though I have not checked. I bought some dresses that look AMazing! Mostly things have been great and I feel the best I have ever felt. BUT... I have been slipping up. Little tastes of things. A few jelly beans, a bite of my sons toast. Can't get it under control :(. Unsure how to get fully back on plan...

Trying to figure out a game plan. I would like to be 175 by the end of April when my son turns 2. I was almost 250 when I gave birth so it's a HUGE milestone. It will take serious work though and I need to get my strong will power back.

Hope everyone has a wonderful and healthy Easter!

Packed the kiddies Easter baskets tonight. Decided to skip doing the traditional candy filled basket and decided on some healthier choices.

Pistachios and pretzels for one and Whole Cashews and Pita Chips for the other (and Hummus - but that will have to wait till morning).
Each got a bag of their favorite Pepperidge Farm cookies as a sugary indulgence

While not perfect, a step above jelly beans, peeps, creme filled eggs and larger than life chocolate bunnies.

Hazel~congrats about your news. Very exciting.

Lisa~sorry to hear IP did not work for you. I have been on it off and on the diet for over a year and I use all the foods with no problems. I have hypothyroid and feel good on the diet. But like James mentioned you have to watch your medications for increase or decrease. I get labs every 3-6 months just in case.

Well another slow weight loss week, only a lb but I had a few inches too so I am ok with that. Hope everyone makes it through Easter and has a great weigh in next week.

Started IP Dec 2011 at highest weight 211. Lowest IP weight has been 157. Stopped and started a few times. Suggest not stopping unless you have to. So much harder to get started again and again.

Congrats Hazel! I hope to be in your shoes too! The IP products make a great snack option if your clinic doesn't take them back. It's important not to diet while expecting of course but eating sensible is important too. I used IP shakes after my son was born as a snack and loved how filling it was. Best wishes. I hope to have the same result from IP ;)

LISA,

could it be that you have had undiagnosed thyroid problems for a while (contributing to being overweight) and that the symptoms got more pronounced when you switched to fat-burning mode?

Here is a link to an article that looks into thyroid function and low-carb diets:
drcate.com/going-low-carb-too-fast-m
ay
-trigger-thyroid-troubles-and-hormonR>e-imbalance/

The article is interesting for anybody who finds it difficult to adapt to a low-carb protocol and experiences fatigue and/or intense carb cravings.

If you are not into biochemistry, skip the upfront scientific explanations and scroll down to the section "Changing from carb-burn to fat-burn demands new metabolic machinery"

Subject: Thyroid

LISA,
If you think that I.P., being a low carb diet has impacted your thyroid then I'd stop any low carb diet, maintain weight, and see what happens to your thyroid function. Its not worth the risk.

I've been on thyroid medication for about 10 years and don't see any way off of it. I was also on Metformin (or similar) for that time too, and I.P. has showed me that on a low carb diet my blood sugar is normal. I'm still a diabetic, but I don't need blood sugar medications on a low carb diet. I'd be very happy if I could also get off of my thyroid medication.

The strength of my thyroid medication was adjusted upwards a little bit while on this diet, but at the same time my doctor was OK with taking me off the blood sugar medications. My thyroid medication has been adjusted upwards before this diet too, so I can't make the connection with low carb making my thyroid worse.

HAZELEYES,
I'm pretty sure that the place I've bought my I.P. products from (a chiropractic office) would buy back my unused packages. But it probably all depends on who you buy them from.

RE: Thyroid
I developed hypothyroid AFTER starting IP.
I started the first week of Aug and was dx in Dec (had been tested prior).
Ketogenic diets can be hard on thyroid, as can both soy and gluten.
For the meantime, I'm on thyroid meds & hoping to wean off after I hit maintenance this summer

I also cut out EVERYTHING with soy & gluten (which means almost all of the IP products!). I'm following the IP diet but using some off-brand products to keep me going.

Congrats, Hazel!

Today is marks my first week back on IP. It went great. I know I'm in the "honeymoon" phase of the plan, so my goal is to take one day at a time and make it to goal this time and maintain!! This board helps sooooo much! I really look forward to the posts.

My first weigh in is Monday, so here's to not messing it all up tomorrow (Easter)! :)

Hope all is well with everyone!

Can anyone tell me if the Ideal Protein centers will buy your food back? They have not responded to me yet and my husband and I found out we are expecting, so I had to stop the program. If they won't buy them back, does anyone know where I can sell them?

Thanks!

FISKETTE,
you mean you got weighed each week by your I.P. coach but didn't want to know the numbers?

Glad that I.P. is working for you. As for the exercise, shifting from carb burning mode to fat burning mode takes a good number of weeks to be at the point where your body can manage to give you the energy you want for sports.

Be careful and listen to your body. It is my opinion that in the long run, for endurance type sports fat burning mode can be as good as carb burning mode. But in the short term you can find yourself ready to pass out because the carbs just aren't there.

Hello everyone!! I finally looked at my number for my 4th week and it was 12 lbs lost!!! That is about 1/3 of the way to my goal and 7.6% of my weight. It was the lbs I wanted to see, but I started about 5 lbs heavier than I thought. All in all, very good and it means that IP is working for me.

Someone asked about what to eat before/after a workout. The best thing I can find to do is to make sure I eat my salad and vegetables and drink my water on my workout days. A good thick salad after a workout is perfect. My workouts usually burn about 600 calories. I don't know how to take it easy, and have not changed them since starting IP since I was already working out to that intensity. I run 5 and 10K's and have participated in two sprint triathlons. I love the advanced spin classes, P90X and the elliptical for an hour at a time.

The only difference now is that I am no longer eating all my exercise calories and now I am losing weight and inches!!!!

I do not plan to look at the scale for at least another two weeks. Good luck to everyone during the holiday.

HOPEFUL199,
weight loss is extremely sensitive to how many carbs you eat, that is why I.P. has the concept of "restricted" snacks, at most one per day on phase 1. A typical restricted snack has about 20 grams of carbs.

Getting above 40 grams of carbs per day will stall ones weight loss. OK for maintenance, but not OK for weight loss.

Being in ketosis means being in fat burning mode rather than carb burning mode, but that can be fat you eat, or your own fat. So with an Atkins style diet, where you can eat things like bacon, you are burning fat you eat. As a diabetic that is great for me as carbs would raise my blood sugar, but to consume my own fat and loose weight I should still avoid bacon.

After a LONG night of my kids throwing up, I am having a hard time concentrating on eating the right stuff. I hate how my lack of sleep directly relates to what I want to eat. Good thing I am figuring this out now while on IP so I can make it when I phase off and realize that I don't need food just because I am tired.

Good morning all! Just dropping in to say that I lost 1.2 lbs this week! I've been kinda loose with the rules for a few weeks and it's showing up on the scale but I am still moving in the right direction! I have been eating according to the plan but I am still having wine on Fri/Sat nights...I don't recommend this to anyone else since it has slowed my losses but I am kinda thinking about how I want to eat/drink for maintenance so I've been pushing the limits to see what the results/consequences are.

I will be starting back at the gym (bootcamp and kickboxing) on Monday. Now my challenge will be to figure out exactly what to eat before and after a workout. I'm thinking part of a shake before and then a couple of hard boiled eggs w/ the rest of the shake as coffee creamer after. I've been thinking about starting P2 when I run out of soups but I find lunches to be so easy that I don't know if I want to change that...decisions, decisions!

I lost 1.6 pounds this morning. So I will stop whining about a weight loss stall for at least a week. thanks for hanging in there with me.

I walked for 30 minutes on treadmill yesterday at fat burning heart rate 65%. Maybe that did the trick.

FUNFIT - I am still going to keep my curves membership and alternate for a few months and see how it works out. I've been at curves for 18 months and it has helped build some muscle and strength. I lost 10 pounds when I first started but never really adjusted my eating habits.

Kt~ I have hypothyroid issues too. Been medicated for 12 years and most diets never worked for me but this one does.

Funfit~ I will check out your recipe.. Sounds yummy.

Heidi ~ congrats on your first week loss that is a good first week.

Well my weight has been frustrating me ...not moving. So I decided not to watch the scale this week. Will wait till the weekend to see if it moves. If still no movement by the weekend then I will try to add small walks. I am hoping stress from last week just slowed things down. I know I have to be patient but I would take a lb or two.

Way to go HEIDI!!! And good job on making good choices when eating out. I'm glad your first weigh-in went so extremely well for you. Gives you lots of extra incentive, doesn't it?

ALL ~ I posted the Potato Chip recipe on my blog. This time I wrote the recipe down while I made them so I could be sure I had it right. They came out great! Crispy...salty...yum! I used a convection oven but I think they should turn out the same if they are done in a regular oven.

9.5 lbs gone after my first week! I'm so thrilled.

And today was my first time eating out while in the diet. I think I did pretty good. I resisted the bread and ordered a salad with a small grilled steak on it and oil and vinegar on the side. I went with my mom and she is very supportive so it was less stressful than I was worried it would be.

Thanks Barnumgal. Did you start IP already on the thyroid meds?
As soon as I'm financially able I'll have a full panel workup to see if my thyroid needs assistance.
I am happy to report that after years of treating adrenal fatigue they have made a marked improvement.
It's fascinating how our bodies work and what happens when things start breaking down.

Any of you fabulous folks dealing with hypothyroidism?

One of my doctors wants me to get tested, a full panel workup.

When I asked my coach if IP adjusts their plan for people dealing with such issues she said it wasn't necessary. Three months without losing tells a different story in my case.

Until I know more I'm pushing forward.

BARNUM ~ Congratulations on the 2.6 pound loss! Canít wait for next week or two when that first number will turn into a ONE!

HEIDI ~ Good luck at your weigh-in today!

HOPEFUL ~ I love my elliptical but have trouble not going all-out when I get on it so I always wait until I am not on Phase 1 before I allow myself to use it. Walking at a pace that doesnít get you all out of breath would be good though. Resistance training is the absolute best though because you build muscle and those muscles will burn more calories than fat does so it benefits you later in allowing you to eat more calories without gaining weight. Have fun at your new gym!

ALL ~ Busy day today but I have my meals all planned out and will follow that plan so I can stay on-protocol today.

Be sure to check out the RECIPE FORUM for some really good ideas to make the food taste even better. I also have recipes on my blog (link in my signature). I have come up with a fantastic cracker/chip made with the IP Potato Puree but have not had the time to post it on my blog. Iím hoping to write it up in the next couple of days.

Have a great day everyone!

Yeah Barnum! Will you post pictures - you've got to look different and it would be so fun to see your transformation!

Thanks for so tips everyone.

I do use the Walden Farms Sesame Ginger mixed with soy sauce in both my salads and pasta. I took a break from that a little while ago because I was over that flavor after several weeks, I have tried the WF Italian, Blue Cheese, and Chipotle Ranch. So far my next favorite is the Chipotle Ranch, when mixed with a little salsa it is more tolerable and even better with a little sour cream emoticon (NOT ON PLAN - DON'T DO IT).

I joined a different gym today. I currently go to curves but I think it might help to do something different. At curves the main exercise is resistance training and I've really wanted to walk lately. With spring not quite here yet and then pollen season right around the corner I decided indoor walking would help. The new gym has treadmills and elliptical.

Also Curves it is quite social where everyone is chatting. I think this is nice a times but I am really looking forward to plugging headphones into a TV and just watching the style channel or trash entertainment TV. I don't have much downtime between work, being and mom and wife plus I never really get to watch what I want to watch.

My husband actually thought I was interested in the Wild West Alaska show he had on the other night... not.

HOPEFUL- One thing I discovered this week I could do for salad dressing was make a vinaigrette without the oil (I use cider vinegar, garlic, salt, pepper and whatever herbs sound good)...so I mix that stuff up in a jar and then when I go to eat my salad I measure my oil and put that on and then pour on the vinegar mixture a little at a time, toss and taste until its as flavored as I want it to be. That way I can adjust the seasonings without pouring extra oil. You could make the dressing up with no carb rice vinegar and soy sauce for an Asian version as well. I make a bunch of the vinegar mix in a jar and it lasts several days.

I have my first weigh in tomorrow and I'm nervous/excited about it....I feel lighter LOL but that could be because I'm eating no junk like I used to.

HOPEFUL ~ I have good news for you...you get to use 2 teaspoons of oil per day...that's double what you thought you could use! LOL!!!

I understand having problems with dry salad or pasta. I have ended up having to make my own salad dressing because I can't stomach the Walden Farms salad dressings and can't find any other brand that is suitable to use. The Walden Farms Tomato Basil sauce isn't too bad though as a pasta sauce. And I have been thinking about trying their Sesame Ginger salad dressing as a sauce for the pasta too but haven't gotten around to it.

I know we all have to find our own ways to be successful at losing the weight but I also know their is real science behind this diet the way it is written. When we go off-protocol we could be setting ourselves up for failure without even knowing it since we don't always know the "why" behind certain foods not being included or being specifically excluded from the protocol. I want only success for everyone on this team and have found the best way to be successful is to follow the protocol.

FUNFIT - I know I may be sabotaging myself. Yes the mayo I use does have sugar as the 4th ingredient. And when I say I am off sugar and carbs, I mean the obvious stuff. Which feels like a huge accomplishment for me. Even with these small indiscretions I am eating 100 times better and less than I used to.

Just having trouble wrapping my head around how a 30 calorie tbsp of sour cream or mayo with so few sugars can stall your weight loss when your only eating 900-1100 calories a day and staying under 50 carbs/30 net carbs. But I know I should not question the plan and rationalize it with misconceptions I've been taught in the past.

This week I will look into buying a few more Walden Farms products. I do crave a little tomato sauce and my biggest challenge is finding ways to dress up my pasta and salad. Nothing worse than dry pasta and dry salad. Then one tsp of oil a day really does nothing to help make salad dressing.

I will do some soul searching and pre-planning and try to cut those items off for at least a couple weeks and see if it helps.

I know the diet works, because I see so many having success, it may just be human nature to test the boundaries. I've done that and it may be why my weight loss has come to a crawl in the past 2 weeks.

I also have an appointment with an Endocrinologist in April. I was hoping they might be able to do some test to tell me if my PCOS can be managed better and might be making it harder to lose weight. I don;t know - still learning about this.

PURPLE ~ Thanks for the happy house selling thoughts. I HAVE been dealing with it for over a year now trying to get it ready to put on the marketÖsigh. Iím glad your social life has become crazy for you. When you started this journey, did you ever dream you could feel this good about yourself and how you look?

KATYA ~ Way to go on the 4 pound loss!

BARNUM ~ Congratulations on avoiding the carb-laden dessert! Iím very proud of you for staying strong. And you are getting so close to one-derland!

FISKETTE ~ Iím sure you will be pleasantly surprised when you see the number of pounds you have lost so far. Canít wait to hear how well you have done.

FATTOFIT ~ WOW! Good job on losing while on vacation!!! Iím so glad your boyfriend is so supportive of your diet even though he doesnít need it himself. That shows he has a lot of character and lots of empathy for you.

HOPEFUL ~ Have you found a brand of mayo that doesnít have sugar in it? I have looked but they all list sugar as one of their ingredients except for Walden Farms brand and I canít stand the taste of the WF mayo. Using all those items could very well slow down your losses (especially as you get smaller & smaller), but I suspect you already know that and have decided to use them anyway. I worry for you (& others as they read what you are eating) that, at some point, the losses will totally stall-out because you arenít really following the protocol and then you will blame the diet for not working and stop trying at all. Please be very careful & aware of all the little ďcheatsĒ you are doing and how they can add up very quickly and affect your weightloss amounts & rate.

ALL ~ I met with the realtor yesterday and Dadís house is now on the market. Letís hope the weather gets to be more spring-like soon so the house shoppers will start looking at houses.

My eating was totally off-track yesterday so today I am determined to restart Phase 1 and get back into the habit of eating only on-protocol items for the next two weeks. I had a nice IP omelet with a cup of mushrooms, spinach & arugula this morning and am very full at the moment. Lunch will be the IP Potato Puree turned into a soup with chives, summer savory & onion powder and a lettuce salad with a cup of radishes, Anaheim peppers & cucumbers and my own dressing.

Have a great on-protocol day everyone!

A little quiet around here. Hope we haven't lost anyone. It's been a little frustrating for me lately, but I think it's important to stay committed even if we don't have a perfect IP day. Seems like I have been struggling with that perfect IP day.

Staying very close to plan but a tbsp of this and a tbsp that - mostly condiments to make things taste better. I will say that I am completely off sugar and breads/refined carbs. I do not touch the stuff. If when I cheat (except o that one day) I use too much oil, have some sour cream, guacamole, mayo or a 50 calorie cheese stick. All no nos on the plan but such tiny indiscretions that make me happy.

FUNFIT - I hope you get your Fathers house sold quickly.

PURPLE: Noticed you were at 190. You may have been there for a few but I remember when joined this board, you were in the 200's.

I am so impressed and inspired by all of you who have persevered. SO many pounds lost. It's awesome.

Well back from vacation and had my first weigh in in 2 weeks and I'm down 2.5 pounds and 2 more inches in spite of vacation. I wasn't perfect while we were gone but I made a real effort to be very conscious of my intake and we got home late Saturday night and I went right back on 100% compliance on Sunday. Feeling a little headachy today because of the detox but was quite motivated by the WI.
Regarding living with people that support this program, I am finding it incredibly helpful that this time, on this program, I sat down with boyfriend ahead of time, showed him all the research on the diet and then had a heart to heart conversation about why I needed to do this for me. The support has been huge since then. He is very fit and does not need to join me on the plan, but having him there for support is making all the difference this time.
Great job to everyone here who is taking this journey with me, I love this board and it's a huge help to me. Thank goodness for all of you and thanks so much for sharing this with me.
