Will, around here where I live, there is this math equation

Women + SUV = Cell phone in use.

Or all of the above happens, and they nearly run into you because they have a cell phone glued to their ear.

Or when you come to an exit ramp that is backed up onto the highway and folks who are obviously WAY more important than the rest of us drive up in the adjoining lane and then cut into the exit ramp? We have an exit like this by our house and I see it happen all of the time...

How about when you are driving along and you can clearly see a lane is ending up ahead and then some knucklehead zooms up the shoulder to the head of the line rather than get behind everyone else. That’s a REALLY big one. Everyone is in a hurry just as much as that idiot, but the rest of us will wait and merge over just like everyone sensible person should do.

Oh Will,

Thats part of the problem. The people leaving these posts are earnest and sincere...or at least they aren't doing it to be trite or smartassed. So I am forced to give them the benefit of the doubt and ignore them unless they ask a direct question.

Today, I got a comment from a woman who saw that I was complaining about my thyroid. She suggested I look at organic virgin coconut oil and she told me it is made up of MLT or MST or something like that. Anyway, this component, according to her, helps the body burn fat, increase metabolisim, and treats (I think she implies "cures") hypothyroidism.

So I took her suggestion and googled it. But then I excluded every biased source that came up. Every holistic doctor and corporate produced webpages. I specifically altered my search to find scientific studies that supported her claims and I was unable to find any. I broadened the horizon and just searched for those MST or MLT (I forget what it was and I'm too lazy to look now) and what I found was evidence that it doesn't work the way people claim.

I went to her journal, commented that I appreciated her suggestion but told her what I found. She of course felt compelled to come back to my blog and post a message that essentially says "You won't find the studies and results you are looking for because coconut oil is a cheaply mass produced product that big business can not profit from. Keep that in mind."

I'm not going to pursue her arguement any longer. You can never reason with people who fail to use logic when they can belive lies that make them happy.

If it is too good to be true, it usually is.

I peruse RGEE's blogs occasionally and I have to agree with his peeve about drive-by posts. One poster must have just been making comments for the sheer fun of it and didn't notice ANYTHING on his pages and called him a girl.

Funny in a way, but relates to the irritation.

I think on some level, those people should be given the benefit of the doubt. When you have written words, that’s all you have to decipher their meaning. When you speak to people face to face, you have their body language, their tone and volume, their, facial expressions, and overall demeanor to help you determine their true intent.

Online, all you have is someone’s words, and these people may not always be trying to be trite or smartass or know it all or whatever.

I know their comments can be annoying at times but remember, even though they may not come across that way, some people really do mean well.

Just think. If they enforced the speed limits and gave fines to those exceeding (photo enforced so there is no partiality -- just send them a ticket and garnish their wages), think how fast we could pay off the national debt!

Just a thought.

Absolutely, you are safe, Mzungu. Its those people that post their first blog entry because they just joined SP a day or two previous. Then they see who else recently posts and the pop in to give a little word of encouragement.

If I was just doing an average job of sticking with it, then sure, go ahead. But I've been pretty hard core. I'm sure there are a few people on here who are better (or worse depending on your perspective) than me at logging food and exercise, but I figure I'm easily in the top 5%. I maybe skip one day for every month that I've been on here.

And then I get some pipsqueek that shows up with a "Go team! It'll be OK!"...what kind of response do they expect from me? I just ignore it. But sometimes it does turn me off to blogging on here.

I just want RGEE to try to win the bet...and if he (you) doesn't that's cool too because he'll (you'll) be in a better place. Of course if he (you) does (do) I hope if I ever bump into him (you) he (you) will buy me a beer with his (your)winnings. If he (you) doesn't (don't) win I'll settle for a cider or brew he (you) stumble upon in his (your) closet. Or maybe I'd just buy him (you) a beer.

LOL...

The interesting phenomena with texting is that I can get a faster response if I send a text message to my kids (2 are grown up, but I still call them "kids") then e-mail. I guess e-mail has become, as they saying goes, so 1990's!

Shoot, I was in a public library recently trying to read and this female sitting across from me had her Blackberry texting away. The clicking was so distracting. She looked like she was in her 30s. It used to be something reserved for the 20 and below crowd, but now, people of all ages have their cell phones and Blackberrys texting messages.

mine is people who do 45dgr turns, I mean they cannot or will not turn the car in the middle of the intersection, they head straight to the lane at a 45 degree angle or better and drive into the other turn lane or what ever is in there way, I mean you have power steering and you can not turn your wheel or what. and in case you guys did not know the fix was in on the game last night.

My pet peeve...People that can't master turning onto another street. If you are turning left, you turn into the far left lane. If turning right, you turn into the far right lane. That way the left turning guy and the right turning guy can turn at the same time. DO NOT SLIDE ALL THE WAY OVER TO THE OPPOSITE FAR LANE!!! Everyday some one almost hits me because THEY don't know how to drive!!

Oh...by the way...I'm new

Tell us how you really feel, RGEE. '-)

I agree with that but my biggest gripe is the lack of turn signal knowledge. Those little lights on a car that let OTHERS know what you're about to do? They're SOOOOOOOO easy to use...there's this little handle on the left side of the steering wheel and you just push it in the direction you're about to go. It even turns OFF when you're done. How easy is that, I ask?

Hey Patrick, that is a good one. But what I hate even more is when you get behind someone on the interstate in the fast lane and they are doing 45 mph, just strolling along. I don't have a beef with slower drivers. But there are slow lane for that.

MItch,

I can completely sympathize with you. Here in Tampa bay people don't drive, they fly! I keep myself in the speed limit and on the right lane also.

Last August, I suddenly had an "ah ha" moment when I was heading to a Dr. appt. I had blocked out the time on my calendar, left with plenty of time to spare, yet here I was on I-91 in CT driving like a bat out of hell! WHY?? I guess I had done it so long that I didn't know any better. So I decided then and there that I was going to drive the speed limit, no matter how painful the transition was going to be. And surprisingly, it was easy, and as a result, I don't worry about speed traps, and I really feel my stress level has dropped.

As a disclaimer: I do stay in the right lane, so for those of you about to hop all over me being one of the folks who does the speed limit on the interstate in the left lane - that is NOT me!

So, my pet peeve: people driving WAY too fast! In CT, it is a joke. Most of the interstate speed limits are 65 mph, which back in my speeding days, meant I was going to do 74. Well, maybe it's me, but I'd say a number of folks are doing 15-20 over the speed limit.

OK, got it off my chest...

I agree with you. A pet peeve of mine is when I am around friends or relatives who know I am watching what I eat and focused on being more healthy, they will offer me all the fatty, high calorie, greasy foods that THEY love to eat. Just looking at the way they shove food in their mouths, it is clear that they do not care about their diet and nutrition and they try to suck me into eat that way too. It's very hard not to be rude when I tell them no. That is very irritating.

I go on SP, I write a whiny blog post, and then people who don't know me, haven't read any of my other posts, give me some trite comments. I'm sure they mean well, but it really isn't appreciated by me.
