That's a good idea! My DH wants me to do that but I'm too cheap to have more than one pair of shoes at a time. What I do have is the "new" pair which I wear to the Y, while I'm "breaking them in" and the "old" pair which I do all my outside walking in.

Seem like everyone has given you great answers. . . I have two running shoes & two walking shoes & like to trade my shoes everyday & replace them in every 6 months.

Louisa, Among the things to consider, and discuss with the person fitting your shoes, are how many miles you're walking and how fast you're going. I'm pretty fast and walk 25-35 miles per week, and I wear running shoes when I walk.

I just did a Google search on the difference and there seems to be lots of good links there. Why don't you give Google a try and see if it helps. Good luck!

Hi Louisa,
The two running specialty stores in my area carry running and walking shoes.

Thanks for all the feedback. I have no problem buying 2 different pairs of shoes but it is hard to find a good fit in walking shoes. Running stores are really good about helping you find the right fit for running shoes. Do they help with walking shoes too?

LL,
I just read this in Janet Hamilton's book, Running Strong and Injury Free and she recommends that if you must choose, pick running shoes over walking shoes. However, if you are only walking and you wear your running shoes, you are still tacking mileage onto your shoes, so you may find that you will need to replace them move often than if you have two different pairs. Running shoes tend to be lighter and have more flexibility than walking shoes.
I hope this helps! Nancy

I can't even wear the same sneaker now for mowing the lawn as I do walking. I had to invest in walking shoes just for walking. I thought it was another gimmick for sneaker companies to get our money. Then when I used a different shoe to mow the lawn - no more toe cramps.
Will be interested to see what the others say.
But I definately believe you need a separate walking shoe and running shoe!!

What is everyone's take on this? I am a runner but walk on other days. Should I buy different shoes for my walking sessions? It is so much easier to get fitted for running shoes than it is for walking shoes. I am curious to hear what everyone's thought is.
