I'm going to play hookie (sp?) from work sometime this week and go to either ABasin or Keystone. They both got fresh powder last weekend. I'm sure it'll all be gone by the time I get up there but it's nice to know that there is plenty of the white stuff to go around.
I'll be taking it slow though emoticon

I am going to Arapahoe Basin on Sunday 03/03. Anyone in the Denver area interested in carpooling? It looks like this past week's snowstorms have helped out so I'm excited to get back out there (if only for a run or two because of my back)!

We had our 1st trip this season skiing here in California earlier this month. The weather and snow couldn't be better, but I got blisters and bruises from the boots after my 1st day. I could only wear sleepers for the rest of the week. What a disappointment. Hoping to have another trip this season even if it's a short one.

Well, our snow is all gone here. Still snow in the mountains but the ski season is over :(
I wanted to get out and run today, but I sat here and watched it rain all day,

We've had a lovely week skiing though the snow was hard in the mornings and slushy in the afternoons. We had sunshine and blue skies almost everyday and ate our picnic lunch with our jackets off.
no more sking now till next year emoticon wixh we lived nearer the mountains!

Enjoy the Alps! It's been warm in a lot of places this year. But I hope you'll find some good snow.

Off to the french alps this evening-it's very warm there and looks like we'll have lots of sunshine but rather wet snow I think.
Looking forward to my weeks skiing though

Wow - 52" is just a dusting of snow! emoticon

I went to Breck last weekend and it was good. Crowded but the snow was packed powder on a lot of the blue and green runs so I'm not going to complain. At least it wasn't icy like it was.

I'm trying to go to Beaver Creek next Sunday. To be honest, the draw of fresh cookies brings me down to the base in the afternoon. Hehe... emoticon

OMG 52 inches of new snow! A super dooper powder day! We did the "la tour de noir" (all the black runs on the mountain) and an incredible day! Blizzard conditions here now. So a night watching movies (if I can stay awake!)

Skied at a little hill in Pennsylvania this weekend. Fortunately I had low expectations and was satisfied following a friend's kids down the green front side. Definitely not Jackson Hole!!

Went skiing at Mary Jane on Super Bowl Sunday (no crowds & no traffic). Denver got hit with a snow storm but not the big ski areas. The snow was packed powder, not bad, had a lot of fun. Agree with Vanessa, It's getting better.

LOL Vanessa! We call telemarkers pin heads! (because the old telemarks skis were held on to the boots with little pins) They are a joke, but it is fun, different, and not as hard as some make it look. Easier than cross country skiing by a lot!

Telemark?! I admire you for giving it a shot. I'm not a fan of lunges so I can't imagine doing lunges down a ski hill...
Reminds me of a joke I sometimes make when people ask me if I cross country ski (which props to all that do... so no disrespect meant here) as well as downhill ski. My response is that cross country skiing is exercise and I just don't do that.

emoticon Absolutely beautiful day today! Not a cloud in the sky, no wind, around 20º, perfect! We did the "Tour de Noir", that is we skied every black run on the mountain. I am tired and a little sore.

Tomorrow I plan to take a telemark lesson. Something new!

The snow is finally getting better but it's still not as great as last year. Some expert runs are starting to open and some of the rather grass covered intermediate are actually snow covered. I'm probably going to Breck on Super Bowl Sunday. So far, they've had the best snow that I've seen (I've been to Keystone, ABasin and Vail so my observation is by no means scientific). But like I said, it seems to slowly be getting better.

What's the snow like where you live? We've been skiing three times (versus at least six or eight any other year) this January. We've had rain and above zero temps for most of the month. It's downright depressing.

I did my last day of the season today, at Winter Park. It was pretty awesome. I'm pretty wiped out, but I had a really great time. I hit some areas that I haven't been able to visit yet, and that was a lot of fun. I also think that my form was good. Kind of sad the season is over for me.

I went skiing on Saturday and it was not my best time. I had a little bit of the *ahem brown bottle flu and it was rough! Plus, it was 50 degrees at the base of the mountain and I was sweating! I wear a helmet so it's not like I could unlayer that (it does have air vents in it but it's a black helmet).
Oy vey, I hope to get one more day in at ABasin so hopefully I end the season on a good note.

Hello everyone, I'm new here... and I'm heading out West for two weeks! Of course it's a business trip, but I'll fork over the $$ to bring my skis, that's for sure. I have 8 or 9 days in so far this year (which is good, living on the East Coast) and cannot wait to hit the hills next weekend.

Every year, I tell myself I'm going to focus my workouts during the other months, so I can be a stronger skier -- but something else (injury, other training) always seems to get in the way. Looking forward to this SparkTeam!

Back from my ski trip, and miss it already so much!!!!! I had a week of downhill skiing, and added cross-country skiing on 3 of those days (2 hrs early in the morning each day before I went on the slopes). What a work-out! I had my HRM hooked up 1 day, and I couldn't believe the numbers.
Today is emoticon getting ready for the next season.

Yes it was good, we always do it this way because of the distance we have to travel (live in England, ski in France-it's quite a long drive!).
I come home with tired legs and sore knees but it's not been as bad this year thanks, I guess, to having lost more weight and being a bit fitter so that's really good.

It stinks that you can't go again until next year but at least you had EIGHT full days of a skiing vacation. I don't think it can get much better than that!

Yes! I learned a bit of toe-side today! But, I fell once on my knees, hard. That didn't feel so good, but it was an incredible day.

Debbie, thank you for telling me about the Mt Bachelor. I wonder how you will find it returning back to a busier resort of Mammoth. But since the lift tickets went up in price, it was not busy last year at all.

You're probably right about the first night after skiing... he probably will crash with my kids.

Mt Bachelor is near Bend, Oregon. It's a very large mountain and resort that doesn't get as much press because it's 4 hours from Portland and more of a destination for folks who live in Oregon and Washington. The out-of-staters usually go to Mt Hood which is significantly closer to Portland. My husband grew up skiing that mountain and his parents currently live in the resort town at the base of it, which is why we ski it so often. It's an awesome mountain that winds up being WAY less crowded than the better-known resorts.

Debbie, I think your friend's son will be so tired from his lessons and snowboarding that he will crash the same time your children go to bed. The altitude, the snow, and the physical activity can do a number on kids (adults too emoticon ).

I hope Mammoth will get some more snow. It's been dry in January and half of February. With the weather so warm, I am hoping for the winter to return.

Where is Mt.Bachelor? I've never heard of it. Great that you have a place to go and ski every year!

Yeah, my friend is a snowboarder and I believe she plans to put her son in his first lessons up there on this trip. Hopefully with the start time of the lessons they'll all be getting up around the time my kids do anyway. But if not, I'll be doing a lot of reminding my kids to whisper - which will probably wake them up at that point anyway.
emoticon

This will be the first time I've been back to Mammoth in something like 10 years I think. My husband's parents live near Mt Bachelor, so that has been our yearly ski trip each year.

Debbie, we are going to Mammoth too (earlier in March). I just love that place.
Good luck on the part with kids' schedule. Are they all going to ski too? May be from being tired no one will notice inconveniences of going to bed at a different time.

We did Snow Summit at Bear Mountain one day over the holidays. My next trip is to Mammoth Mountain with a friend and our kids. We're going up for a few days March 18-20. The 5 of us will be sharing a small 1.5 bedroom condo and my kids go to bed about 3 hours before her son and wake up a few hours earlier as well! Wish us luck on that part!

We skiied Hoiday Valley this past weekend, Friday at Holimont and Sat/Sun at Holiday Valley. It was awesome skiing. Sat afternoon turned to freezing rain, sleet, so we stopped around 2:00. My girlfriend and I went into town and had massages done. Sunday was great! Skiing was amazing, snow was great and no one was out. I guess Superbowl Sunday has its advantages somewhere! emoticon

I'm off ot the French Alps in about 10 days time-the resort we are going to hasn't had snow fall since Jan 10th, just lots of sunny blue skies (though mostly below freezing until recently). Looks like there may be a little snow next week but I'm hoping for more as I don't like skiing on ice.

We drove up to Killington, VT, and the conditions were good - every trail was open.

I hope I get another chance to get back there this season.

I went today! And, I bought skis this weekend that are the right length, so it was SOOO much easier (they weren't getting caught on each other). Though . . . the guy at the store apparently didn't tighten them enough, so on the second run down, I couldn't seem to slow down, so I tipped myself over . . . and the skis immediately fell off. Oops! Made for a good laugh. Then I got them adjusted properly. I'm beginning to feel like I can do this :)

I will be skiing this weekend on the east coast for the 1st time in a long while - 8 years. I have not been since I fractured my ankle and had two surgeries and then the awful weight gain that followed. Depending on when you read this post the profile pic of me skiing was taken 8 years ago. Little did I know the day this pic was taken that I would not be back on the mountain for 8 years. I am wearing the same jacket that I pulled the 8 year old lift tickets off. I am very grateful and the conditions are excellent. Ready to edge some turns emoticon emoticon

I'm going to Keystone on Saturday. I think I may leave Denver around noon and then stay to do some of the night skiing. That way, I miss some of the traffic on the interstate.
(Those from CO will KNOW what I'm talking about - a one hour trip will take 3 hours because of all the skiers!)

I live in upstate new york and I skied on new years eve. It was 40 degrees and sunny. It was great considering we had no natural snow at the time. Finally got about a foot of the real stuff on friday but I screwed up my ankle at the gym this week so I wasn't able to get out and enjoy it this week. Soon...

Cross country again tomorrow. Just booked a family visit and ski trip in March. So we'll have to get out on the small city hills before that.
One of the hill has a night skiing program where you bring a food bank donation and then you can buy a ticket for $5! This is a great idea!

I went skiing last Saturday in Breckenridge. It was fresh powder just the way I like it - only about 2 inches of fresh snow (what can I say, if there's a lot of fresh snow it takes a lot more leg work and I'm a wuss!!!). I love making the first tracks!

I almost went up for opening weekend but I don't like crowds and we have just enough snow to open Eaglecrest in Juneau, Alaska. 500 people fighting over a few ft of snow? I might ski Baker this weekend, I'm going to visit my family down south so I'll return with a full weather report.

I skied Vail on Saturday! There was fresh powder and a free O.A.R. concert in the evening. I'm still sore from such an awesome powder day!
