I have a fistful of friends that free heel and would never go back to Alpine now.
I agree that taking a lesson is a great start as initiation of the turn is very different. My brother had a hard time switching back and forth between alpine and tele, so one season he forced himself to only free heel and now he's never going back.
Check out Teletips, an online forum for tele skiers and see if they have any...
well .... tips. :)
Oh my gosh, tele skiing is so fun! We have a telefest at our area each year, and I learned there. I would recommend taking a lesson at least once, b/c it is pretty different. But if you can't, watch a vid or read up a bit on the internet, so you can figure out the turn technique a bit. It really livened up my skiing, just for somehting different and new to try!

A friend is encouraging me to learn to telemark while I'm teaching my kids how to ski on the easy slopes. Does anyone out there telemark? Any advice? Thanks!
