Hi - just got back from Snowbird/Alta tonight. It was pretty awesome. Temps in the 50's and we had soft, but not mushy, snow conditions. We stayed slopeside at the Cliff and had a gorgeous view of the mountain. I'd been running, working out with weights, and doing extra squats/lunges and it's a good thing because my legs were screaming by the 3rd day. Trails were long and steep. Breathing in the high altitude was difficult. 2 boarders in our group even rented skis so we could do Alta one day. I totally agree with what you're saying about helmets. I can't understand why anyone would go without wearing one. Two people in our group won't wear helmets and we keep trying to win them over. It's not even your own ability that's the only factor - you have to watch out for people crashing into you (and yes, that's happened to me on several occasions). It's a good thing to remember that snowboarders have a "blind" side. I try to steer clear of crowded trails and I rarely ski on Saturdays or holidays when kids are out of school. It's just too crazy out there. I'm ready to plan my next year's ski trip. Thinking about Jackson Hole - anyone have a favorite mountain they would suggest? I'd love suggestions. I was also thinking of Big Sky, but I'm afraid the night life is lacking there.

I can't even tell you how many people have told me that they don't wear a helmet for their own crashes, they are wearing it for when someone else hits them.

So scary. I'm really excited that will over 100 members on the team we had 0 posts about major wipe outs.

Wow, I've read about Natasha Richardson now... that's so incredibly sad. It sounds like she wasn't wearing a helmet? I am so freaked out about anyone not wearing a helmet in any situation where helmets are "suggested" (skiing, sledding, biking, motorcycling, whatever). I think in my own case, I'm more freaked out about someone running into me than I am about me actually running into someone/something. When I was up at Winter Park, it seemed like there was a fair number of folks there on college spring break. I saw kids skiing pretty erratically (from the chair lift), screaming and swerving nervously, and even saw a couple of collisions. (And yeah, I was totally: "Mental note: do *not* go down that run.") :-
Let's all remember to be careful out there.

I love hearing about a good ski vacation!!!

Glad you got back safely. Today's news is all about a head injury on a ski crash, so today I'm just grateful for the lack of postings on injuries this season.

Okay y'all, I'm back from my girls weekend at Winter Park. THANK YOU for the lunges/squats challenge, Sarah... I think it helped SO MUCH. I wound up taking a couple of lessons (because there was a deal where they were thrown in with a discounted ticket price), and that was really useful, too. I was totally thinking of y'all when my thighs were burning, when I was trying to drink enough water, when I was trying to make sensible choices at lunch and dinner. I feel really fortunate to have SP, because I think it improved the quality of my trip, so thank you! I'll probably post a more detailed blog entry about it later.

I am in TN and far, far, far away from any decent skiing. Fortunately my brother is in Park City, UT so we can ski and visit at the same time! My husband and I went out the first week Deer Valley opened in December and are heading back out April 1st. I just hope there is still some snow around when we get there!!

I work hard to look like THIS!

Hiya emoticon

I'm going to be going to Whistler this year at the start of February - so excited! emoticon

I'm still having lessons for the black slopes but really enjoy it, me and my boyfriend love the snow and any winter activities!

There isn't really much in the way of natural slopes in England, so we have to travel and we prefer to avoid Europe if we can emoticon

All the best!

I too am jealous of people who are close to a bigger ski area. For 2 years I've been saying I need to live closer to a bigger hill. If only the housing market would shape up so I can SHIP OUT!

Banff looks so amazing. Tahoe is Gorgeous. Telluride makes me a little nervous.. I'm not sure why, I've never skied there. It looks so steep in pictures!

I hope you all have a blast out there!

If I lived near an area in Utah or Colorado or Montana, I'd probably skip the out of state trips as well.

This year we're doing it on a budget, so that will be interesting. Packed lunches for a week? Ugh.

One of my daughters has moved out to Edmonton, Alberta after her graduation last spring. So we are going out to visit her over son's reading week and high school-age daughter's March break. We will ski either Banff or Jasper, not sure yet which.
My skiing dream is to ski at a place that has a natural hot springs, so I can soak out the aches afterward. Hopefully one of these will fill the bill.

$ is tight for us this year, no out of state trips. We'll make it up for a few weekends at Schuss Mtn or Crystal, here in Michigan, but that is it. I envy the people close to mountains!!!

I'm fortunate in that I live ~30-40 minutes from a "local" ski area in CO, and we have season passes. Some CA friends are coming out to ski in March (woo hoo--they did this last year, too, and it was so much fun). We'll ski a bit locally and then we'll have a "girls only" weekend and go elsewhere in CO. So not exactly a trip, but a little variety. emoticon

My dad was trying to get my husband and me to come and visit--he said he and his wife would watch the kids while we ski Telluride...

I am very fortunate to live w/ in a 2 hr drive of the Tahoe area, so we will be staying local, so far as I know. I'd love to get to Colorado some day, we have a friend that lives there that does a BC tour of the ski huts there.

I'm being forced to choose between Colorado, Utah and Montana since we can only take one trip this year.

Where are you guys going?
