I grew on the west coast, boarding Mt. Hood since a teen, and am now living in NYC. I hate the conditions on the icy east coast, but it's better than nothing.

We skied Thursday, Friday & Saturday, and it was very nice. It snowed about 10 inches on Wednesday night, and another 4 or so during the day Thursday. I guess we really lucked out, b/c I heard it that it rained in the beginning of the week.
It was in the low 30's the whole time I was in VT. I didn't need to break out the hand warmers once. I don't think I could have asked for better conditions.

Gee, I hope the weather improves. Our ski on/ski off house will lose a lot of its luster if the sky ship gondola is closed.
The forecast could go either way; I hope it goes the snowy way! I'll be really dissappointed if we get 3 more days of ice. I don't think my face could take it (since it collided with the mountain in a horrible way on Saturday).
Maybe I should consider buying a mouth guard (like in field hockey) ... hmmmm.

AMSHARK, Hunter has a tendency to get icy, especially when the weather keeps warming above freezing like it's been. If you survived that, you'll be in great shape for Killington.

My brother and his girlfriend skied Killington on Saturday. While all those trails were supposed to be open, the lifts were on wind hold all day. I think they only had one lift open, which meant that everyone was concentrated in one small part of the mountain. Still, they said that they were able to find okay snow; only some areas that were all skied-off and icy.

Good for y ou for getting out there! Ice scares the bejeesus out of me! We went back country yesterday, and took a different way back because the road we booted up was so icy! But the slope we found was about a foot deep in fresh powder, really nice!

I skiied Hunter Mountain yesterday (NY). The weather was nice, sunny & low 30's, but holy icy slopes! Apparently, Friday was mostly freezing rain. My quads were certainly feeling the burn.

Overall, not ideal ski conditions. Still, it was good to get out there, and some of the trails were decent. That was the first skiing I've done in 2008!

As of today, the Killington snow report states that 165 trails are open.... I think that's out of a total of 200.
I'll have to wait and see what another week will do.

Hello to all East Coast folks
We are getting lots of snow out west. If you want to ski some great snow come and visit the state of Colorado now. You won't be denied a great skiing trip. Our forecast for the next ten days is snow on seven of those days. I believe some may be heading your way. Keep up your snow dancing.

AMSHARK--I've been skiing Pico, which is right next door to Killington and owned by them; my brother usually skis Killington. The conditions are getting steadily better, but we haven't had much snow since January started. Pray for snow!

ASHLEIGHC,

I skiied Tremblant a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, it was a bit warm that month, & most of the trails were closed...
emoticon
.. they sure did try with the snow making, though.
As a matter of fact, I did my first black diamonds there, b/c there weren't many trails open, & I was getting bored with the few blues & greens that I had been skiing all day. I hope that you have better weather. I'm sure that you'll enjoy yourself.

I'm going to Killington, VT in a couple of weeks, so I hope that the snow is building nicely up there. Has anyone skiied Killington yet this year?

I'll probably also take a short trip up to Hunter on Feb 2nd. .... so, if there are any New Yorkers with an update on the conditions, I'd appreciate it.

I live in Northern Ontario in Canada and we have winter here 8 to 9 months out of the year so skiing, snowboarding and snow shoeing is very popular here. We've just booked a trip out to Mont Tremblant Quebec for a week in February (instead of going to Jamaica) so that should be fun and interesting

Actually, Vermont had awesome snow over the holidays, but I was too busy to ski it! By the time I returned the January thaw had set in with a vengeance. So far, I've only gotten in two days.

The thaw is over, though, and the snow's returning. Most of the Vermont mountains racked up 5 inches of snow since the weekend, and another storm or two is expected for later this week.

I use a variety of sources for weather/snow predictions, but I find the Mad River Glen meteorologist to be among the best (http://madriverglenweather.blogspot.com/)
. He's predicted a good weekend, if you can get out!

California Gal here, we have plenty this year, but I can sympathize as last year we got nothin! I had 2 ski passes and barely used them. This year we only committed to the XC pass, and I've gotten out 4 times so far. Couldn't go up last weekend because of the big storm, closed the freeway and all that, so I stayed home, but I am looking forward to getting out there this weekend.

Hope you get some snow soon!

I'm jealous of you both! I was just talking to a gym buddy this morning who's plan is to retire out west so she can ski better slopes.

But we may have gotten some of the "snow" today. However, it came to us as scattered shower. emoticon

I live in Aspen and in December the ski areas around here had more than 7 feet of snow and yesterday we had another 18 inches of snow. The light powder type. So hey take a vacation to Colorado and you won't be disappointed. Some snow may be headed your way.

Yup... really makes me wanna ride my bike to work (limit CO2 emissions). Time for me to get back on that goal - need to eliminate my excuses. I'm doing okay for snow now in Idaho, but I sure would like more snow. :-/

Have any skiiers or boarders made it out yet this year??

I'm stuck, for now, in New York and it seems like every time it starts to get cold enough for the slopes to build up some snow we get a heat wave like today, and weather.com says for the rest of the week. How are we suppose to get out there if it doesn't even drop below 50 degrees!! I actually took my skis with me when I went home this year and it was raining on the slopes the Sunday before.

Ok, I'm done venting. I just wanted to know if it's bothering anyone else.
