Barbara - you have made HUGE changes - your success so far is amazing. Are there any small changes you can make that might "shake things up" or reset your progress? Sometimes there are small thing you can change that will bring new progress - you are so much closer to your goals and it may be that you see changes other than on the scale as your body adjusts to the new weight I find that I tend to losing and then staying the same or slight gains for several weeks (sometimes months) and then another drop - of course I am a LONG way from being where you are. Don't get discouraged, just keep making healthier choices and moving forward each tiny step at a time.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

I am off to a good start. Yesterday's dinner with all the veggies really helped. I woke up this morning and was down for March and also for this week. I was happy and since January 1 I was down an even 20 pounds - that makes it a total since the end of last April of about 69 pounds. I am definitely ready to start a new month and to have lots of success.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I'm ready to start the new month off with a new focus and determination on meeting my goals of losing weight and living a healthier lifestyle. To that end, I made it to the gym this morning and got in 30 minutes of aerobic exercise. Now if I can just stay on track with my eating (that's the tuff one for me because I love food!)

Well, I am glad you got to spend some time with your son, anyway!

We made it to April! At long last. Now if Mother Nature would flip the calendar and just SEE that it's April, then behave accordingly, I would be happy.

But I remember one Baseball Opening Day that got called because of blizzard, so if nothing else, she is one cantankerous old broad.

Any baseball fans among up?

Easter isn't celebrated by non-Christians, so it's just Sunday. I am happy that my son is coming for dinner today, and I'm hoping to video chat with my daughter, too.

Have a blessed day today and a JOYOUS one tomorrow. We can make our choices healthy and our lives happy by allowing ourselves the true JOY and happiness that is available to us. Health doesn't always mean doing without, giving up, or depriving ourselves. Joy and abundance are part of a HEALTHY HAPPY LIFE.

The weather is wonderful, will go take a walk in a few minutes.

Need to do some picking up throughout the house, I will incorporate some lunges and hamstirng stretches into that as much as possible. Did some of my back extension therapy before I got out of bed - sometimes that makes moving around easier, sometimes not so much! But the more I do it, the better off I will be.

Have a blessed Holy Saturday, and enjoy your day.

Easter starts with church, a meal and fellowship after church and then over to my stepmother's house where he grandson, son, and my son will fix us dinner. Was not sure we were going to do the family dinner this year but Helen called to tell me that Dalton had gotten stuff for all of us.

Will be a very low key Easter this year, spending it alone at home. Will talk to daughter and grandbabies - maybe via webcam if we can get it hooked up.

Weather is supposed to be nice, so maybe I will go spend part of the day in the park. Probably ought to start cleaning up the yard, too.

We'll see how it all goes. Right now I need to get out for a short walk, before it cools down again.

My daughter and her family are going to church and then brunch with her FIL. We are planning on a quiet dinner with all the kids later in the day. Don't know for sure about church, don't know if mom will be up to it. I get everyone an Easter Basket so they will all get a little chocolate and the granddaughter will get a little gift.

Nancypat, of course you are right. In fact, that is why I am sore--I tried a little heavier weights. I have been taking care not to really hurt myself, but this morning my arms are just sore. I took an ibuprofen but can't say that it seems ot have done anything. Believe me, I am very respectful of what I do--I've hurt myself in the past!!

I have no specific plans this weekend. I'm hoping that my son has some free time to come over.

Barb - a little sore is okay - just don't overdo it though. Sometimes it takes a while to adjust to a new routine or get back in the swing after not doing it for a while. You will adjust and soon it will be back to your old self.

Frannie - I think you KNOW you need to take care of YOU first and foremost. You will not be much support for your mom if you wear yourself out and don't take enough care of YOU. I am glad things are at least somewhat stable. Your mom will need you to be strong and to be HEALTHY for her. I am keeping you both in my prayers. (HUGS)

Hi all, hope you are all having a good week!

NancyPat, mom is doing okay, her cancer had mets to the brain so we had 3 weeks of whole brain radiation but that is over and hopefully it will hold it a bay for awhile. We will start chemo again as the 3rd line was keeping the tumors in her lungs and liver dormant for the time being. She is bald now since the radiation so we have an appointment Monday with the American Cancer Society to get her fitted with a wig, they will give her one and since this is the 3rd time she lost her hair since this started I think a wig is called for.

I am doing okay, a bit stressed which leads to much eating but doing okay. I know that the time is coming when the Dr will not be able to do anything more for her but I am enjoying having her with us now.

Frannie

I dont know what I would do without my mp3 player! (and my public radio station!) Oh, and the LIBRARY! Lots of goodies at the Library.

So, as I suspected, we are still in wait and see mode. Go back to neurology in a month, after tapering the prednisone a little more, and opthamology in 2. I guess that's a good sign.

Those steroids really took a toll on my body, but it's looking up. Swelling is down a little bit, appetite is under control (more or less), aches and pains are fewer. Thank God. I dont wish that on anyone. They tell me, however, that depending on how this turns out, I may be on steroids forever. Nooooooooooo!

Oh, and my small, slow growing cataract has become large enough to remove, thanks to the steroids. Diabetes, another risk of steroids, and one that my family is prone to, seems to have missed me! Hooray and knock on wood!

Can we have more fun? I dont think I can! Have a great day everyone!

I walked home from work today! It is still chilly but not quite as cold as it was! It felt really good to walk. I got a new phone recently and was able to listen to music again as I walked. I gave my iPod to my mom so she could listen to books so it is really nice to have something to listen to music again.

In didn't get to the pool today - didn't get out of the house due to a BIG snow day again. Hope tomorrow will be better but who knows - as of 8 it was doing something and the temperatures were dropping so I predict at least a delay unless it warms up during the night.

Monday is my big cleaning day so I consider it exercise. I walked up and down my stairs at least 5 times, three of them carrying my vacuum cleaner. TOmorrow is the gym, and I am going to try to do three days in a row this week.

You guys make me try harder!

I have gotten my short walks in every day, and at least one set of stairs, so thanks guys.

I can feel things loosening up a little, too, which spurs me on. Not sure what to do today, though, since there is about 4" of snow on the ground! More stairs, I guess.

I have my doc appts tomorrow - neurology and opthamology. They will assess my progress (or lack thereof) and hopefully, I will know more when I leave there. Probably just more wait and see, though. I hate this feeling of being in limbo. I am on the taper dose of prednisone, at least. I am taking half of what I was taking for several months. Easier on the body, but now we will find out if it worked.

Have a great day, all, I intend to!

I made it to the fitness center 4 times this past week - snow prevented it from being 5

Our bodies DO need a day of rest and I take weekends off from the pool because it is a long drive for me and MY body needs a rest too. I walk on those days.

More snow tomorrow. I just have to laugh, at this point. I remember other years like this, when it seems that winter will never be over. And then it is.

But if this keeps up, I will need new boots for next year, LOL! Tall boots! I am tired of wet cold ankles.

Have a great day no matter what the weather is!

We're back with slightly cooler weather this week--mid70s--and it is supposed to go down to the 60 at the end of the week and rain. There is no such thing as "usual" weather anymore......

Good Saturday, All!

Plan to do more stairs today and maybe get a short walk in - the snow melted off, the sun is trying to peak out. The temps aren't cooperating, but I have gloves.

Really must get some cleaning in.

Too true - it seems it is always either too cold (like NOW) or too hot and nobody is ever just satisfied with whatever the weather is.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

I guess it's just going to keep on being cold and snowy outside (except for you Barbara, humph) until one day we wake up and it will be 90 and humid and too hot. Welcome to the 21st Century.

We will just have to learn how to make the best of it, I guess.

Have a great day!

I play mah jongg on Fridays and always have a had time deciding what to wear. My house is always cool downstairs, but my friend's house is on the third floor and is always a lot warmer--so I have to come up with something that I can be comfortable with but not too warm!! I know, if all my problems.....

So looking forward to the weekend. It's supposed to be drying up, warming up, and we may actually see a little sunshine. Am feeling very proud of myself, I'm still making it to the gym in the mornings before work and getting in anywhere from 20 to 60 minutes of workout time. Exercise time is dependent on whether I get out of the house in time or not. Tuesdays and Thursday mornings are 60 minutes in actual class so I make myself get there in time for that. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

I have always thought this was a really awesome team!

Just another note to the previous advice. Take it slowly, baby steps are best. When you try to change too many things at one time it is often discouraging and we give up! So begin by changing a couple of things and then keep adding more changes as the previous ones begin to become habits.

You can do it and it sounds like you are starting to do some thinking about HOW you can do it. One caution I would give you is that you don't want to compare to the previous loss but take some of the lessons from it. I have found that each time I have lost I have used NEW strategies at the start and then applied the old ones that worked in the past - it helps me to start with something different at the beginning.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

Thanks all. Really good advice and I'll try to step back and figure out just what I'm doing.
I always said those pills to suppress appetite are useless for me since I eat because I like food....not because I'm hungry. Now, though I find I'm eating things that I don't even enjoy eating so I really have to step back and take a hard look.
Several years ago I lost 50 lbs so I know I can do this.... I can lose it again...right!!!
Part of my problem I think is that I just don't know where to start with my menus.
I've been counting calories and fat for so many years that I confuse myself when I start reading articles that say this is good/bad for you and there are so-o-o-o many articles out there.
Sooooooooo
The first thing I need to do is make a habit of shopping regularly so I have some healthy food in the house. My 4 year old grandson spends Sat mornings with me now and I love this time with him and wouldn't give it up for anything. I just have to quit pushing my shopping off .....oh I'll go tomorrow....or tomorrow. I know it sound silly but there it is.....and the bottom line is when there isn't healthy choices, I make do with whatever I can find.
I like to walk so with the warmer weather on it's way, I'll be able to get out and walk and that will certainly get me going in the right direction.

If you believe in yourself, you can make your dreams a reality.

I know that if I skip a meal, I end up foraging later on. I did it last night because I didn't have time for dinner, and ended up eating toast instead.

Don't forget to drink your water!

Instead of the kitchen sink, use the faucet. It is amazing to me how many times I think I am hungry or have the munchies and a glass of water does the trick.

Everyone is giving great advice. Another thing to remember is that thirst and hunger have the same triggers. If I feel like I want something to eat, I'll drink 8 to 16 oz. of water. If I still want something 30 minutes later, I would grab something healthy with few calories. My favorites are raw veggies, especially carrots and celery! Drinking that extra fluid not only helps with the munchies, it also helps with activity, since you'll probably need to make more frequent trips to the restroom! :-)

NancyPat, great advice we can all use. To add to that, think seriously when you are eating everything in the kitchen, am I bored? I find that I eat out of boredom many times. If I stay busy enough I don't eat as much. Also, try to analyze what is going on in your life. There can be small stressors we ignore but that kind of stress can also add up to eating.

That's pretty good advice NancyPati ! That's what we all need to do - figure it out and do something about it. For me, I had a munching problem too, so I just moved to focusing on exercising and that paid off - clothes fit better, had better outlook; so then I was able to guide my eating habits a bit better. What I did was add better foods to what I was eating, just like you suggested. Maybe moving more - walking, more walking, and exercising could be the way to getting a handle on eating better. But always add first! That is the best advice I've ever heard!!!!

Itsuptome - Take a moment and simply relax. Now, I have a couple of questions. Don't answer off the top of your head, take an extra moment and think about your answers.

1 - On the days that you are trying, are you DEPRIVING yourself or cutting WAY back on calories, or the foods you really love? Think about how you would react as a small child and someone took away all of your favorite toys (foods or whatever). Maybe if you tried a new approach and instead of taking away stuff, you might try ADDING things to your menu - add a cup of soup or a salad about 20-30 minutes before your dinner. Add an extra veggie to your lunch. Don't push things when you start out. Don't try to do it ALL - just one or two small things.

2 - On the days that you are eating everything but the kitchen sink, are you hungry because you didn't feel satisfied the day before? Are there family members who are eating some of the tempting snacks in front of you? Are you feeling like you just can't really be successful because it is too hard? What are you feeling as you go in and raid the fridge and the cupboards?

3 - Can you make a PLAN that helps you balance things out a little better? Think about the things you have in the house, the people you share your home with, and the types of food that you are eating. Figure out a way to fit all of those together to make it MUCH easier to eat healthy most of the time than to cycle through the days in this up/down/up/down cycle. There is nothing you cannot ever have, but ideally you will make a plan and fit those things into it. Make sure your plan fits YOU, YOUR LIFE, and YOUR circumstances.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

Here I am again.......I try one day then eat everything but the kitchen sink the next.
I'm doing this over and over and over.......and I'm not even enjoying what I'm eating so why?????
I'm getting so frustrated with myself.....
I hate being negative and this is not the norm for me......right now though I'm just so confused about what/why I'm doing this to myself. There is absolutely no reason for this.....I have a home and family.....grandchildren that I adore. I'm really so lucky......so what am I doing????
I'm trying to figure it out..
Maybe it's the snow that seems to be staying around longer than I want it to....come on sunshine and warm weather.
Sorry for venting.....I'll be OK..... tomorrow is another day.

I am going to try to eat very lightly today. There has to be something that will get me off this trend of gaining. I am also upping my exercise substantially this week--and I am feelign the soreness!!

We're supposed to have a storm move in this afternoon/evening that will be bringing us some rain, but this is Oregon so we expect rain this time of year and we definitely need it. We're well below the yearly average for this time. I'm just thankful that the temps aren't expected to go down to much.

Have a great day everyone!

It is very cold here this morning. The temperature is 18 degrees with a windchill of 2!!!! OMG it is the middle of March and I am freezing. I keep hoping for warmer temps but it looks like 30s all week this week! It does not help with walking when it is too cold to walk. I really need to get in some cardio. I am trying to get in short bursts a few times a day by walking around the school inside and walking my daughters dog about 10 minutes at a pop but it is just not enough. Hope you guys are having better weather!

Tuesday already!

and still variable weather. We go from snow to sleet to rain to snow to sun to rain today. Not kidding! Temps are going to go back and forth around freezing. Gotta love days like this! 3 seasons in one day!

Hope everyone had a good weekend! Overall it was a sunny weekend here southwestern Oregon but the air is still a bit chilly. Did some work around the house then spent the weekend goofing off.

HoHum--nice out again....

I went to dinner with some people last night so I am sure it wasn't pretty, although I didn't eat that much. I know that I had more sodium than normal because I felt a bit bloated but I think it is flushing out today.
