I read your message, and I noticed your starting weight, and goal were similar to mine. Only difference is that I have not lost any appreciable weight. Congratulations to you. You have inspired me and I am going to give a good try again.

Hi everyone. I'm going to disappear for a few weeks, but I'll be back. We are heading out on vacation tomorrow morning emoticon emoticon The really fun thing is our 2 kids and their spouses are coming with so it will be fun x 6! emoticon We are going to Puerto Rico to visit my brother and his wife. Then the 8 of us will hop on a cruise ship and sail the southern Caribbean for 7 days/nights. Have fun while I'm gone and be good! emoticon I'll catch up with everyone when I get back! (I truly am going to try and be good myself!)

I really didn't feel like exercising today, but I did anyway. I tried out a new 60 min. DVD by Leslie - 4 power miles where the two middle miles are pretty high intensity with intervals with lots of hopping, jumping jacks and jogging. I thought it was okay but my feet weren't too sure.

That could be true. I hadn't thought of it that way before. Thank you for giving me a new perspective. I just keep responding when I get a message someone has posted. Maybe we should leave a message starting a whole new thread. I am okay here, but we will have to see what happens. I am also okay moving if we are asked to.

NancyPat, maybe we're fat as a result of being smart. Since we were the smart ones, we spent all our time thinking for everyone else. When I have one of my "Senior Moments," and DH teases me about it, I remind him that my mind is wearing out 4 times as fast as the rest of the family simply because I had to remember everything for the four of us. As a result, he and the 2 daughters didn't have to use their brains as much! LOL

It just dawned on me that we are 5 days in February and still posting on the January thread. Are we staying here this month?

I am not the really FUNNY one in the family - I was always the SMART one - so how did I get to be so FAT if I was so SMART?? I guess we don't always grow up to be the person everyone thought we were when we were kids. LOL

That actually works just a bit at our house. My 13 yo dd raises rabbits. And she LOVED the post when I shared it. (She forwarded it on to her 4H leader who has 3 young girls.)

We had one more day without rain. I was able to get in a walk outside. It always helps my mood.

I hope you have a wonderful day and a great week as well. If I didn't have a sense of humor, I would be depressed all the time. My sisters and I were sitting around one day and our kids (my 2, my 2 stepkids, my one sister's 5, and my other sister's 3) were behaving like KIDS do, bickering, whining, and wrestling around and my sister looked up and said, "I knew I should have raised PIGS at least when they behaved like that I could have eaten them" I still have that image in my mind whenever kids go a little wild. LOL

Chuckling out loud at your posts. I'm not even going to go there! I just wouldn't win.

I hung out laundry on Saturday and kept another load for today. When I got up, first thing I noticed through drawn blinds was no sun. Oh rats! When I looked out the window, everything was covered in frost. Okay, not a good drying day outside. Thank goodness I have a dryer! And I'm not afraid to use it.

Happy Monday!

Beautiful day here. My son was here this morning and we finally put his plates on his car--which he got in September 2012! He's been carrying them around inthe car since November.

I walked but with the temps so low, I walked inside. The sun was shining but the temps were still in single digits and while I might not mind it, my arthritic knees definitely do NOT like it that cold.

I love to see the losing posts! Thanks for sharing, Deb.

Today is sunny, windy, and a great day to hang out laundry. It should dry pretty fast. One of the first days of winter that I've been able to do this.

Walked my 5 miles this morning ... feeling great.

The whole thing about muscle weighing more than fat - the same SIZE of volume of muscle does weigh more than fat. You can fit a lot more weight of muscles in the same size pants or shirt - unfortunately it does not happen in a week or overnight - it happens when you do the ex er cise thing and build the muscle over time. BUT our wt does NOT follow any set rule - it can go up or down a dozen times in a single day. I only record wt once a month and don't REALLY take it as gone for good until it consistently stays gone for several days or even a couple of weeks. I post my wt for the 1st of the month but if I posted daily or even weekly it would look like a heart att ack with it going up and down so many times. If you are losing inches - YOU ARE MAKING PROGRESS AND HAVING SUCCESS - YES, EVEN IF THE S C A L E doesn't tell you that you are.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

Doggie bags are great, if you do them!

In 2012, I gained about 5-7 pounds, despite really working ont he exercise much harder. I was complaining to my son, and he said--Mom, muscle weighs more than fat. I know he was trying to make me feel better--and it did! I realized that my clothes don't fit any differently, so maybe he is at least partially right.

I stepped on the scale this morning, and I had gained again. I'm just about back up to the 215 mark. THEN, my hubby helped me measure my body, and I've lost 3 inches this past month. I don't understand the scale part of it, but I'm ready to hit February and get more inches off.
REJOICE WITH ME!!

I'll be walking my 5 miles again today but without the weight vest or belt. I'm going out for lunch with a friend, and I'm going to be very careful! The place we're going gives huge portions. I'll be bringing home a doggie bag for my hubby!

Dakota, funny stories!

I used to bake a fair amount but stopped for a lot of reasons. I am so out of practice that when I do bake, things don't always come out as well as I would like!

I wish the calories did leak out....

Dakota, I hope the mouth and head feel better today.

I love to bake as well. Instead of loaves of bread, I have a recipe for freezer rolls that I used now. The recipe makes 3 to 4 dozen rolls, but you freeze the dough. By doing that, I find that I only take out enough for the meal, and we don't eat too many at a time.

As far as the calories in the bread, I figured if you slice and eat the bread while it is still hot, the calories won't be it it yet. As soon as it cools they jump on it! Of course, that means eating a whole loaf at once! emoticon

All the comments about the homemade bread make me smile. Okay, so if you break a cookie, don't all the calories leak out?? Wouldn't the premise be the same if you cut a loaf of bread?? emoticon

BeckyAnne, I've been baking all our bread since I got married 34 years ago. Hubby's mom baked their bread, and it was just sort of expected. The first loaf I made I way overcooked. The crust was about 2 inches thick! I gave the dog some of my first cinnamon rolls, and she took them out and buried them like a bone. That was a hard one to live down! emoticon But, with practice I have learned, and it really isn't that hard. When my kids were home, I made a big batch. Now that it is just hubby and me, I bought a bread machine.

It's cold here today ... - 4 degrees. The sun is shining but that is oh so deceptive! It's a good day to stay inside close to the fire! But, I have a coffee date with a friend in town and neither cold or snow will keep me home! emoticon

I had a root canal done yesterday. I'm not exercising today since both the mouth and the top of my head hurt (headache). I'm consuming soft foods and liquids today. I'm making broccoli cheese soup for lunch.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. -Apostle Paul

I don't love to bake, but I love eating baked goods. I only bake occasionally for my boys. I try and put it out in the freezer right away so I'm not tempted. I've never tried baking bread. I'd love to learn how though. My boys would think t was cool that their mom baked bread instead of buying it.

Yes, I would probably weigh HALF what I do now, if I weren't so creative and had never eaten all those things that I don't particularly LOVE but ate anyhow because they were there.

I love to bake - bread, cakes, cookies, pastries, pies. And I am very good at it, LOL. So I just dont dare anymore. Because I also like to EAT it! My best bet is to just keep safe stuff in the house. And even at that, it's amazing how creative you can get when you are driven to carbs!

Long ago, I went through a phase of baking bread every week, and I really enjoyed doing it. But there were 4 of us in the house then, and my will power was a little better than it is now.

Do you mean that an entire loaf of the bread isn't a FREE FOOD?? Darn I thought it was one we could eat with no cals, carbs, fats, or anything like that. I am with you - can't have it in the house.

Today is a gorgeous day, mild temps and some sunshine. By Thursday it is supposed to drop into the low numbers again, but it is still January after all. LOL

Yesterday it was cloudy and I really had nothing that had to be done so I enjoyed an afternoon of reading. Lovely!

Today the sun is shining. Cold is on the way tonight, but I'm enjoying the sunny day before it hits. This morning my hubby brewed me peppermint coffee, which I absolutely love, because he said it was a "Christmas" type morning. He's a sweetie!!

I made homemade bread for lunch and enjoyed it with thick homemade strawberry jam. I weigh each slice and go by ounces when I post. Yum!! Worth every calorie.

I walked my 5 miles both days. Always makes me feel great.

We here in Nova Scotia had at least two weeks of frigid temps and high winds, yesterday the sun cam out and it was just below freezing...oh so nice. Funny thing is that's when I started house cleaning! I don't feel like doing it on those days when I'm stuck inside and have lots of time..odd..I think it is the sun. So yesterday I decrapified my spare room closet, washed it down and bagged give aways and throw aways. I did get out to ride in the afternoon. Still lots more to do but it's a little overwhelming!

Be the best you can!

We have wet snow here in S. Dakota ... finally! It can snow like this all night. We are still in a drought, and it would actually be lovely to break it! If we don't get moisture, we are going to be in big trouble come spring. Of course, rain in the spring would be lovely too!

Stay safe, everyone.

Our day today started with freezing rain, but the sun is out ant the temps have made it to the upper 30s. Tomorrow's high is supposed to be in the mid 60s, and then upper 70s for Wednesday. Of course, to keep things on track, we're supposed to have snow again Friday! If you don't like weather roller coasters, don't move to Virginia!

Rainy and wet here today, but it is better than the freezing rain yesterday. We are going to get a couple of warm days and then back into the deep freeze!

We had bone chilling cold earlier this week. I had my heating blanket set on high and was still cold all night in bed. The water in the kitchen froze up. BUT, today was close to 50, and I headed outside to walk 3 miles.

I'm going back to doing Leslie's workout tomorrow. I work harder with her DVDs, and I go more miles. I just don't push myself if I'm all by myself.

The cold is making it hard for me to even convince myself to go to the Y. If the wind weren't blowing, I think I would be okay. They are calling for a chance of light snow here tomorrow. If it's not too windy, I may go for a walk in the snow. I can take the cold if I have the snow to play in. Guess I'm still a kid at heart!

I have been terrible about tracking, hence my weight gain!! it does really help to track. Of course, with the cold snap we have (single digits all day yesterday) tracking cardio is not happening!!! I am thinking about a gym but I just don't enjoy that nearly as much as walking.

I really like what Barbara said ... she tracks her food in the morning so she knows what she's eating that day. That's what I've started doing. That way I can plan the day. I've been going over calories too many days. If I track the food in the morning, there are no surprises like when I tracked the meal after I ate it. emoticon Those crazy calories add up sooo very fast.

Today my to-do list is to make a photo book on Snapfish for my mom. Hope you all have a great day. emoticon

I agree about the big problems when I don't track my food especially. Tracking doesn't only mean putting it on the tracker though. It means being CONSCIOUS of serving sizes and weighing and/or measuring my food. If I am not tracking I tend to slip down the slippery slope in a couple of ways. I start eye-balling portions instead of actually CHECKING them AND I start underestimating cal ories for the day/meal/or snack. It really is a slippery slope because the first week or so, I stay pretty much on track but it doesn't take long before I start sliding. The problems are not that I pig out or binge, just a little here and a little more there, an extra serving or whatever. This means if I don't track for one or two days, I am okay - much longer - WHOOOPS!

I've found that I have big problems if I don't track food and exercise. If I stop tracking, I start gaining because I cheat! I let things get out of hand, and now I have a lot of extra pounds to lose. Now if I can just get the motivation going again!

TOM is still an issue for me, so I usually don't weigh during the 5-7 days when I'm dealing with that. (I can feel my body swell up.)
Anyway, I persevere with exercise to push through in spite of the "obstacle". Some day this too shall pass.

Your strategy is a good one. Since weight does fluctuate so much allowing 1-2 pounds leeway is wise - some say 3-5 pounds but I think by that much when you are at goal could lead to a potential problem, where 1-2 gives you a warning and a reminder to get back on track. I can't wait until I am able to be at my FINAL goal weight and can enjoy all the benefits. You are a true inspiration.

I've gone a couple of weeks now without tracking and for me it's going good. I weigh myself daily and I will allow myself a lb or 2. After that I will watch it until I go back down. When I track my food, I tend to not eat all of the right things cuz if I can't track it easily, I won't eat it. Now I just stick to portion sizes and it seems to be working.

I track my food all the time. I do it because I have found that when I don't, I quickly slip down that slippery slope into portions that are too big, total calories that are too high, and way too much fat and sugars - YES, even when I THINK I am doing pretty good, because it is so easy to misjudge and mess up.

I have tracked food religiously since I started here on SP--in 2007. I know that sometimes I am not perfect with it, but at least doing it every day accomplishes several things for me, among them, it makes me responsible for what I am putting in my mouth, and it makes me aware of how many calories I am consuming, especially compared to the amount of exercise I am getting.

So far I'm still in the "dark ages" in terms of electronics. Recently when I pulled out my cell phone, several employees laughed and laughed and asked where on earth I had gotten one of those. (I have a prepaid plan w/ Tracfone & my phone is @ 5 yrs old.)

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
On a different note, is anyone tracking food on a regular basis? I had a trainer last Fall, challenge me to track my food as diligently as I track my exercise. Hmmm.... It has been an eye opener. (Did you know that 1 cup of peanut butter M&M's contain 1000 calories!?!)
emoticon
Today I'm trying out tracking my food at the beginning of the day to "make a plan" and seek to stick with it. -- Yesterday was my "model" day for a perfect balance of intake, both calories & nutrition. I will have to "star" it as a reference point!

Happy Thursday to you all!

I love my Kindle! No IPod but I have an MP3 player that I use all the time. I download songs and sermons to listen to on it. It's great to have in the car, too. I just bought a second MP3 so I can have songs on one and sermons on the other. I can plug my MP3 into my new CD player and use the speakers on it to listen to in my kitchen.

Addiction to these things comes quickly. My Kindle was in my coat pocket last fall and my stepmother and I were somewhere and she picked up my jacket and the Kindle fell on the floor and BROKE - I was LOST. I used that thing ALL the time and losing it was a great loss. My stepbrother gave me a new one at Christmas and I almost cried I was so happy to have it back.

With love and caring from Nancy ... wishing all of you a wonderful, blessed, and precious day.

I have to agree, I gave my iPod to my mom so she could listen to books when she was first diagnosed. It was too hard for her to read at that time. I miss it so much and now it is not functioning correctly and she is really upset!!! It is so easy to get hooked on that stuff!!

I did love walking with it, I miss my music while I walk. Now I have to get one for me and for mom!

Barbara - Isn't it funny how we get hooked on things. A year ago I didn't have or want an IPod, but my husband got me one with wireless headphones - now I don't go anywhere without it. I download audio books from the library so when I'm trudging along on the treadmill at the gym or out on a country road I can listen to a good mystery story or my favorite music. I even hook it up to my car stereo and listen to what I'm in the mood for when I'm driving (works great on long trips.)

Jumpup, I hope you continue to get good reports from the doctors and the steroids take care of the mass completely.

The weather here is cold and rainy, so no walking or biking yesterday or today. Of course yesterday the temps were about 25 degrees higher than they are today, so it seems really miserable.

I spent the morning with my Sunday School class for a soup and fellowship lunch. There were a lot of good soups there, but also some delicious looking desserts. I did eat some dessert--I'll just have to work hard tomorrow to burn it off! UGH!!!

Cold here, too. Izzy, I used to walk more before I killed my ipod!! I am hoping to get a new one in the next few months, because I just get bored when I walk.

It is COLD here, I didn't walk to work yesterday or today. I did try to walk around the building some just to get a few minutes in. I don't like cold at all!!! Actually it is usually much worse before now so I can't complain when we get winter weather. I just hope we don't get a really late spring.

It was lovely here too. The sun was not really warm but also not COLD - ideal walking weather.

Yesterday the sun was out, the air was crisp, and the scenery was just to darn nice to pass up so I went out for a walk. Ended up walking 5.5 miles. Had some nice tunes on my IPod, stopped a few times to take some pictures. Just had an absolutely lovely time.

My grandson is 4 months old today. My SIL and daughter take a photo every month to show his growth, so I am looking forward to the new one!

Many thanks for all your prayeres and good wishes.

Progress is slow, but steroids have shrunk the mass, so although I have double vision, at least I can see. Neurosurgery has passed me on to Neurology, but of course I have to wait to get in.

I am trying to keep the food intake together, although it is hard to do when all I want to do is cover myself in simple carbs! Amazing how creative you can get when there are none in the house, LOL!

Going to opthamalogist this morning to find out my 'field of vision'. I suppose that will indicate if there is any permanent damage. Wish me luck!

Again thanks for the support, please keep chatting about kids and kimonos and birthday parties! (And what a great idea to share the bounty!)

DEEINWI - you are awesome, getting a small bag of chips and giving the food to your neighbors who will enjoy it is great. Thanks for inspiring me!

What a wonderful solution for a potentially challenging problem. I love it that you were NOT ONLY able to resist the temptation, but to make OTHER people happy as well. Great job!!!

Hi all, sounds like there are definite life challenges happening in this group!

I think it would be scary to not know for sure what is happening, Jumpup. Just know we care about you ... keep us posted. I'll add you to my prayer list too. Even if you can't exercise much or even at all, you can still track those calories, so I encourage you to do that.

Deb, I'm so glad little Charlie is growing. That is exciting ... a definite yes answer to prayer!

It's snowy here and windy, so I'm glad I have the WATP DVDs to walk with. Just cleaned house, have one load of laundry left to take care of, and then I'm off to put my feet up.

Happy weekend to all! emoticon

Izzy, good luck with the job situation. I know what you mean about how relaxed and wonderful that time off from a stressful job can be. Maybe next week will be better.

Jumpup - I hope everything goes well and your health issue resolves. My thoughts and well wishes go out to you.

I'm not sure how this year is going to turn out. I took the first week off and it was great. Spent time at home reflecting on life and enjoying the company of my husband. Then I went back to work on the second week and it was a nightmare! (Not sure if the nightmare was just because the previous week was so peaceful.) But at least I am still staying on track with the gym and am down four lbs.
