A new year ... a new slate. Happy New Year to all! Happy new slate to all! emoticon emoticon

I did 5 miles with Leslie this morning. I even ordered a couple of new 5-mile DVDs so the routine doesn't get boring.

It's sunny here today ... so lovely! Picks the spirits up a huge notch. emoticon We're going to the in-laws for a soup lunch and then snack (none for me!) and emoticon today.

Good Morning and Happy New Year!

We don't do anything special for New Year's Eve or New Year's Day. I'm usually sleeping at midnight, but last night I happened to wake up just minutes before. No champagne for me though.

Today I will get my workout in, followed by laundry and some housework. Plus I will make a healthy dinner. Not sure what yet. All I know is it will be made with chicken.

Have a great day!

I was blessed to end the year with a beautiful, but small, snowfall--enough to dust everything white! (We don't have it too often, and I LOVE it!)
emoticon
I have a couple of "go-to" treatments to prevent the "cruddies" --a zinc, vit C, vit B6 lozenge + a multivitamin called Immuplex. Those have helped me tremendously if I sense the onset of a sore throat or swollen glands. Plus warm water w/ lemon juice!

Hope you all are feeling better soon! - Happy New Year!

Are you supposed to eat the onion or smell it or something?

Feeling better today, but I won't get out at all again. I have to wait for the plumber to get here to snake the sewer line from my house to the street. So annoying!

Hi everyone, just wanted to stop by to wish you all a Happy New Year! I hope you have a nice celebration tonight and for those of you who have already celebrated, I hope not too much.

How about sharing some of your New Year traditions with everyone!?!, let us all know what you do to ring in the New Year and what food to you eat for New Year's Day.

We always eat black-eyed peas and cabbage! I don't really even know why, supposed to bring prosperity I think. I think I'll go google it now!

Did not go to the gym today--I realized that was not a good idea. My fever did break during the night, although I am still stuffed up. By tomorrow, I think going out will be a good things.

For a variety of reasons, I haven't been to the gym in over a week. I wanted to go this morning and ease myself back into it, but yesterday I came down with a cold, and I am just sick today! Spending a lot of time in bed, in fact. I never get sick--until this year, and now my immune system seems to have given up on me. If I feel better tomorrow, I will try to get to the gym...

Hi everyone, it's sunny today, and I thought about bundling up and getting outside for a walk, but then thought about how cold it is (20 for a high and windy), and decided ... ummm ... maybe not. So I got out my DVD and went at it again in the house. If only all the sweat dripping off me was fat! emoticon

My challenge is not eating everything in my pantry during the early evening and evening hours. I just want to snack and snack. But, I'm staying in calories and exercising, so I'm actually doing pretty good. I'm trying to keep the calories lean for breakfast and lunch and then I have some extra for the snack times.

Good Saturday morning all!
I have been off since last Friday, got hardly anything done here at home. Did get a cabinet cleaned out, tossing so much stuff away,expired-alot of stuff in the trash. From now on, its more economic for me to buy 2 oranges emoticon rather than a 5 pound bag, and not just oranges but other things too, I know, I'm 53 and just figuring it out now!.........
But won't have any problem getting back into the swing of getting up at 3am when I go back to work, as the dog emoticon has been getting me up before 5 all week!
I binged yesterday emoticon ate everything in site emoticon ,not gonna bet myself up bout it. Back at it........baby steps. emoticon
I ordered a ninja blender yesterday, hope I get use out of it. Its just me living here, this should be easy I say, I only have to cook for me. Doesn't matter, its hard to change, but I'm determined!
u all have a great day

So Sorry Barbara! Sadly, it probably IS a trend. Once you get one, it is so easy to get another. Drink lots of cranberry juice. It helps get rid of the bacteria that likes to hide and flare up later.

Hi everyone! It has been awhile since I posted, we have been very busy. Took mom to get a CT scan and then we saw the Dr. the chemo she is getting is keeping the cancer at bay so we were happy to get that news right before Christmas! She will get 3 more rounds and then another CT scan. Hopefully this one will work for a couple more cycles, the 2nd line of chemo she had didn't work very long but I am very hopeful about this line.

We had a really nice Christmas, my GD is almost 2 so she began to get the idea. She had a wonderful time and being the only grand child for my family she was so spoiled. Everyone tried not to go overboard but of course we did! She got so many new clothes and lots of nice toys.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and I wish you a very Happy New Year!

emoticon Remember, you only need to keep working at this to succeed, we will all have ups and downs in our journey but as long as we don't quit we will do well!

I haven't done any decorating in years. Once my son moved into his own place, it didn't make any sense, and the cost of a tree has gotten so high, I can't afford it. I do miss the decorations, though.

You are not the only one who did no decorating this year!

I spent Thanksgiving with my daughter (cheaper airfare than Christmas), but will spend Christmas with my sister and her family. My brother is driving in from the East Coast.

Holidays are NOT the same since the family scattered and my folks passed away.

But I am making cookies anyway, only the favorites this year.

Somehow I always seem to be in charge of the sweets!

One of the women did it at the same place last year, so I am expecting it to be fun--and rewarding. My mom spent a little time in one of these places during her last illnesses, and they can be depressing, no matter how nice they are.

Enjoy the caroling, Barbara. We only had one house that said no due to sickness in the home. Many of the people are older and we also carol at the low income housing. It always looks so nice on the Christmas shows with the fancy outfits. We are usually bundled up to the teeth with long johns and 10 layers just trying not to freeze ... no fancy outfits here. emoticon

Today is cleaning and laundry ... getting ready for my folks and sister and hubby to come if no one gets the flu that is rampant out there. No kids this Christmas as they all go to the in-laws'.

I did 5 miles with Leslie this morning and hope to get outside and do a couple more this afternoon. Watching the calories and trying to stave off those munchie times in early and late evening. Sigh! Why do I love food so much??? emoticon

what a wonderful thing to do! My parents spent their last days in such a facility - they always loved the music events - especially the carolling!

I went to a carol practice last night--ate too many cookies!! We're caroling at an extended care facility on Sunday. Should be fun.

Had a caroling party last night ... Subway subs, chips and soda or cider. I kept enough calories to enjoy some of it all. I did skip the cookie though ... if I get started, it is just too hard to stop.

I walked with Leslie 5 miles this morning, grabbed a shower, and now on to wrapping some Christmas presents and getting some cleaning done.

I lost a pound this week but was hoping for 2. I let myself indulge too much this past week, so I'll be more watchful of calories and won't go over my daily limit. Pounds, BE GONE! emoticon

Well, I made the cookies, and ate far too many!! They are all packaged to give away, or I would have eaten more of them. I think it will be a few more years before I bake them again!!

hey Barbara
You are not alone, I too have been putting off my holiday baking for the same reason. Just can't get excited about it this year knowing I can't indulge. But like you I have to get it done so I will try tomorrow morning since I'm off work emoticon Rhonda

I decided that I was baking cookies to give to neighbors, etc. and I have been putting it off because I am afraid that I will eat too many! I have to do it today. I'm making my mother's favorite, chocolate chip cookies, and one thing was eating that raw dough! So bad!! But so good!!

So, I am in charge of half the Christmas cookies for the family (that is left) gathering. My niece will do the other half.

I used to make 10 different kinds, back when the family here was bigger and my parents were alive. Cutting it back to 5 this year, the absolute without-them-it's-not-Chrismas ones.

I bought all the flour and butter and sugar and nuts and fruits that go into these cookies, and I am going to start on them today.

Most of these cookies have no place in my new way of living/eating. Anyone else in the same position? How do you get through the holidays?

My daughter keeps us in the loop with pictures on her blog. I'm so thankful for the technology we have today! My dad and mom had grandkids in both Africa and Spain that they saw only once every four years. No Facebook or Skyping for them. Barbara, maybe you could find a cute little one who needs a grandparent but doesn't have one close by??? Get your cuddles and love in person that way???

HI everyone, congratulations to all you grandmas. How lovely to have babies in the family. I don't have children but I have nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. I hope you enjoy your little ones, even though there are miles between you.

My granddaughter will be 3 weeks old on Monday! Too bad she lives across the country from me. I was there for the birth and a week, but she'll be so much older by the time I get to see her again. I am delighted to have two grandbabies now, but so sad that they live so far away. My daughter takes a lot of pics and sends them to us grandmas, so we get to see them grow, but it's not the same thing as holding them.

I'm sorry that Christmas cheer seems to be so hard to come by this year for so many. I send hugs your way and would give you one in person if possible. Hope things look up soon.

Finally got the tree up. I love the lights in the early morning darkness with the smell of coffee brewing and then lighting up the tree again in the evening. I like to light the fireplace (we have an electric fireplace, and I love it) and turn on the white lights on the mantle. It's all magical. We even had a skiff of snow last night and then heavy fog so everything was frosted this morning.

We already enjoyed opening presents with the kids and grandkids at Thanksgiving since they all go to the in-laws' for Christmas this year, so the tree is bare of presents. But, that's great with me. I prayed for good spouses for my kids, and we got them, so I'm more than willing to share them! emoticon We've been truly blessed!

Tree is up and the house is decorated. Had 10 girlfriends over the other day for cocktails and cookies after lunch at a local restaurant. Heading off to a neighbor's house tonight where the entire subdivision goes to celebrate the holidays. Everyone is great friends with everyone else and it is so much fun. On Monday night, I have my work Christmas party, and then off to a resort Christmas dinner.

Wishing my family lived closer so we could spend more than just the actual holiday day with them.

My hubby is currently working on our main staircase. When we had the house built 10 years ago, we just had them build, plumb, and do the finished drywell. We have done everything else ourselves. For the first 6 years, it was just on weekends, but now that we live here full time, we have gotten so much done. My hubby even made every one of our bathroom vanities and kitchen cupboards from scratch (cherry with maple trim). The staircase is the last major project he has left. He is a wonderful craftsman and does an amazing job. He does everything with such detail and he never stops amazing me with his skills and workmanship. Getting the staircase finished this year will be the best Christmas present ever!

Sorry to those that get too much snow, but it is certainly something that I miss! -- Everything is just a little brighter, cleaner & magical when the snow flurries start and a gentle layer of white covers everything... Sigh.

I purchased a fresh wreath to hang inside my apartment. I love the smell of fresh pine. It has several large pine cones, and some other evergreens. It is simple, but every time I walk past it, it reminds me of the things I love most about the Christmas holiday season. I love the music, the carols, snow falling on trees and the quiet it brings, the sparkle of snow at night, and the chill cold air of New England. It reminds me of my childhood, building snow tunnels that we called igloos, making snow angels, bundling up, and the snow getting in my boots no matter how careful I was. I celebrated Christmas with my children on Christmas Eve so we could feel the mystery of the night under the tree lights. I had little money to spend, but the few things I gave them or made for them, plus a really special dinner, made the night magical. On Christmas day, we visited my mother and then their father picked them up. Gifts were piled on them, and lavish meals. But I loved our Christmas Eve best, and it remains a wonderful memory we share.

They live far away from me and now have children of their own. I know they carry our modest celebrations in their hearts, so filled with love and fun. Most of our tree ornaments were ones we made every year, and lots of red bows I tied on the tree. Unpacking the ornaments and decorating the tree was something we shared too, and for many years all the ornaments were unbreakable. Sharing holidays with x-spouses can be difficult for everyone. Don't be afraid to carve out a special evening just for you, your kids, and whatever special friends you have in your life, and celebrate.

Getting better and better

Everyone seems to be down or slow getting started this Christmas season. I think it is the economy and what is happening with our government. You just can't plan on the future anymore. I try to live day by day but it doesn't work out.

I wish and pray that everyone will have a very happy and Merry Christmas.

I used to love to listen to Christmas carols, but I haven't decided whether I feel like it this year or not...

Usually put the Christmas tree up the day after Thanksgiving, but I've been more focused on getting my SP stuff done and haven't taken the time. I did drag out the box of Christmas stuff this morning ... one step closer. emoticon

If I get a good family picture, I'll mail out cards, but this year I didn't get one, so no cards.

It's been more like early summer than December which makes it a little hard to get in the "holiday" mood. But, snow and a tree and decorations do not make Christmas. Christmas is all about celebrating Jesus' birthday. I've been playing my Christmas music since September. I have so many CDs of wonderful music that one month just doesn't give them justice. emoticon

Christmas was the favorite time of the year for my parents, both passed now. It use to take them 1 1/2 weeks or more to put up their tree and the village underground. I remember my Dad working on the lights for under the houses on Christmas eve. I have since given his train to the Great Grandsons. I still try to bring myself to put up a tree for the grandkids, especially my Granddaughter because she is 5 now and asked yesterday where our tree was. I guess I'll put it up today.

I guess I'm just a kid at heart. I love to see the Christmas lights and remember the great times while I was grown up. Times weren't easy for my parents, but they made Christmas a special time for us. My cards and most of my decorations go for the true meaning of Christmas, and we search for ways to celebrate Christ's birth, not all the commercialization in the stores.

Every year I have good intentions of sending cards, but I never do because I really can't afford the postage.

I usually send out a holiday email message to my close friends on Christmas Eve.

I dont decorate anymore either. No point to it. My daughter and her family live across the country from me and can't come home for Christmas. (I just got back from visiting for Thanksgiving.)

Since my parents passed away, the whole holiday thing has changed.

I mail cards to my immediate family and that is all. It has become so expensive and we decided that we would do other things instead. We picked up a few small plants the other day that we give to neighb ors and close friends. One has a small area for catcus and they enjoy them so we get them a catcus to add to the garden

Keep on track

We're talking about Christmas cards? Oh, I stopped doing that years and years ago. And I stopped doing Christmas after my mother-in-law ruined Christmas for good.

Nope, that was long ago. Now I'm with my Sweetie whose birthday is on December 25th. I'll never escape that day, but still, we don't do Christmas. We do Birthdaymas instead.

I haven't sent cards in years. When my husband was very sick and then after he died, I was not in any condition to think about it, and eventually I fell off everyone's list, too.

I love doing Christmas cards! I'm afraid it's a tradition that will disappear with the next generation, since technology is taking over the field of communication. Our church family exchanges cards at church instead of mailing them to save money on postage. I will do about 100 there and will mail about 75 to family and friends. To help cut the cost, I get my cards on sale after Christmas, and lots of "forever" Christmas stamps whenever the post office raises rates. Since I pay most of my bills on line now, I haven't had to buy any stamps for 3 or 4 years!

Today I want to get a closet cleaned out and get my Christmas decorations finished so I can get the boxes out of the living room. Since we will be travelling the end of the week, I need to work on some other projects here tomorrow and Wednesday. Hopefully that will include some of my Christmas baking!

I mail out very few cards. Only to family and friends that live out of town.

This year has flown by. I've had a good and bad year. It's the 2nd yr in a row that I've had medical issues. I'm hoping the next year will be better.

Alot of my Xmas shopping is done and I'm hoping to finish up this week. Then it's on to baking. Before you know it, Christmas will be here and gone and we'll be planning our gardens, etc. again.

Have a nice Monday!

I can't believe that it is DEC. already. Where did the year go!

I still mail out cards, I believe that let's your friends and family know you are thinking about them at least once a year. I've gone from over a hundred 45 years ago to 30 this year. I only send to the ones that sent me cards last year. I hate getting E-mail wishes. How about you?

Just 30 days to the end of the year! -- Will you meet your fitness minutes goal for the year?
I just have to make a point to schedule my workouts!

Do you mail out Christmas cards or pictures? I still haven't decided...
