I did!! I turned off all the lights and went into the den and watched TV, with the door almost closed so the light wouldn't spill out! Sounds silly, I know. There was one knock on my door despite the dark, but that was it, so I have no idea if there would have been a lot or a little! I looked out the window at one point and saw a woman walk by with a young child, but that was all. I felt kind of stupid, but at least I was aggravated by having teenagers coming to the door more than once!

Well Barbara, did you get to hibernate!?! We had quite a few, not as many as usual, it was a bit chilly but enough. My husband was getting nervous, he thought there would be nothing left!!!

My daughter took my granddaughter out and she was so cute. She is 21 months so doesn't really get the idea but when she went to about 2 houses she realized what was happening. Then she literally ran from house to house, she did not want to stop. She was shrieking the whole time! It was hilarious!!

Praying everyone in Sandy's path will be safe. Fire trucks are going up the road in front of our house and we are in the SW PA. Very windy and raining hard.

Well, spent all day getting things stored inside just in case Sandy decides to visit us in SW Pa. I hope she decides to pass us by but we are ready for her. Generator gassed, extra water, and enough food to get us through. We made it 3 days without electric 3 years ago with the snow storm in March. This time we have the generator and a heater. I also won a new hot plate at a basket bash. If worse comes to worse we still have our gas grill out on the porch with a full tank of gas. emoticon
Hope everyone along the east coast will be safe and God be with us all. emoticon

It is hard to believe that October is almost over! It is my favorite month because of the beauty of the changing colors and the weather that is usually beautiful. This year, we've had the rain that we missed all summer and it's been too warm!

November is around the corner - I hope it brings October weather!

Whiteangel4, it was Saturday before I really felt like I could eat regularly, today I am doing fine.

I hope ya'lls weather is better than ours, it is warm today but humid and rainy! Not a good soaking rain which we need, just drizzles enough to make walking the dog a pain!!!

I just wanted to say "hello" and hope like everyone else here to be successful with my weight loss. I lost approximately 25 lbs. years ago on W/W, but don't have the time to go to the meetings, etc. I love this website and the ease with which you can track your food and exercise. I haven't gained all of it back, but have been up and down with a few pesky pounds over the last several years, and of course, the older I get, the harder they are to get off! Wishing everyone the best of luck in your weight loss endeavors!

Well, went to the allergist today for my results of test and I'm not allergic to anything. emoticon Still having headaches that are above and below my eyes. He gave me another pill, Sinular, but not sure that will help. I found in a Woman's book a lady that had the same exact symptoms that I have and she took a nasal spray OTC called Sinol. She said that it cleared her symptoms in a day after 5+ yrs. Went on line to see about the spray and of course they said that if you have high BP be careful. It seems that anything that will help you OTC is no good if you have high BP emoticon
Calling the Allergist tomorrow or going to see my Pharmacist about it. Wish me luck. emoticon

It has been in the hot range--mid to high 90s, but it might cool off a little soon. It hasn't been bad at night though.

Hi all, just wanted to stop by and check in. We had a really nasty stomach virus in my house, I was sick Monday and Tuesday and still can't eat much but it looks like everyone is recovering
okay.

We took Mom to the Dr. on Friday to get the CAT scan results and it looks like the chemo is not working as well as he would like so tomorrow we are going to start on a new one. Hopefully this will help a bit. She did not get the virus so far (knock on wood!) and is feeling pretty good.

It hasn't been too cold here but mom is so cold that I have had to turn the furnace on! I hope we get another mild winter, I live in an old drafty house and I don't know how well she will do if we have a bad winter. We'll see. Summer was hot, and so far fall has been a little on the cool side.

We had a free check of our furnace this year because it was new. We had to get a new one last Sept so the first check-up was free. We've had it on a few days but I still like to have the bedroom window open a little at night to have it cool to sleep but the Hubby doesn't. I just told him to pull up the cover emoticon

The furnace is now fixed and ready to run. We usually have ours checked out first, but the time slipped up on us this year. It had been warm and we hadn't needed it, and mentally I was still stuck in summer months! LOL

Today I want to finish my cleaning and get ready for a trip to Natural Bridge with the "college kids" Friday and Saturday. Have a great day everyone!

That's a reason that I always get my furnace and a/c serviced before I turn them on. One year, they came to service the furnace and found a crack that would have caused carbon monoxide to be let into the house. I am a believer.

It was cold on Friday--then warmed up and supposedly has been around 90 the last few days, and for the next couple, too! No idea what to expect any more.

Frannie, I hope the test results went well and you had a great weekend with your family. I hope the leaves there have turned more than they have here in Virginia. The oaks and maples have been slow turning, so most of the bright reds and oranges are missing. Of course, I saw honeysuckle and hydrangeas in bloom this weekend, and they are both through blooming much earlier here.

"CampChat" Barbara, welcome aboard! I wish you success in your weight loss journey. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help or if you have any questions. I remember the days of butchering hogs, curing ham, and making sausage when I was young. I always enjoyed helping Mom mix the spices into the meat. I miss the "home grown" pork and beef--it was always much leaner and the taste was fantastic!

We have had beautiful fall weather here. I've been relying on the heat of sunshine during the day to keep my house warm. We noticed the furnace was slow firing when dh turned it on last week, and are now waiting for the repair parts before it can be used. I thank God that we discovered the problems while the temperatures were moderate instead of the middle of winter!

Hey everyone! It's been quite awhile since I posted but it has been so busy! Mom goes tomorrow for the results of her CAT scan, hoping that the chemo is keeping the cancer at bay and there is no new growth! My brother is coming up tomorrow also so I feel a bit better in case we get bad news. Of course, the research I have done shows there is at least one other line of chemo she can try so we will see. Of course the current chemo could be working gangbusters! I feel like it must be, we have not seen any of the symptoms we experienced when she was first diagnosed. She is actually feeling really good, just some fatigue which is really normal with chemo.

BTW, does anyone have any suggestions about a drive into Wisconsin from Chicago to see fall colors and maybe some quaint shops and such? I want to take her on a brief trip for the weekend while my brother is here.

We also are thinking about a train trip but I don't know, I don't think I would feel safe or comfortable going with her alone and no one seems to be able to go with. That will have to be on hold until I can figure out how to handle it.

Anyway, keep moving and working toward your goals!

We are having wonderfully cool mornings. I walked out yesterday and was shocked by the temps. This morning I planned for it and put on a tee with sleeves. By mid afternoon we were up to 84 but otherwise it was a great day. I should not complain about 84 as it is much lower than the high 90s we have been enduring. WE are suppose to keep the weather like this thru the weekend which I will love. Miss Coco will be able to go with us to the Market at these temps

Keep on track

Beautiful here in Maryland today after three days of 50 degree drizzly overcast weather. Today was in the low 60's but bright and beautiful, perfect for the convertible in the morning and the Vespa in the afternoon. It's sausage making time since pork is cheap in the autumn. Today's batch was hot Italian...I like being able to control the ingredients....keeping control of the fat content and the salt and besides, it's fun! I have only started this grand Spark adventure last week but find it almost easy and very supportive. Well the dh just came in so I better get cracking on dinner.... emoticon

P.S. I'm a Barbara too.....I don't think there is a Barbara under 50!

Wow, quiet in here. Weather is pretty much the same. Today was grocery shopping and I should go to the library and pick up my book, but I doubt I will make it out this afternoon.

It was very dreary this morning and there was actually some talk of rain, but I think it burned off. Still in the 70's but I need to get my furnace serviced before it suddenly gets cold. It is such a pleasure to have to pull the blanket up at night!

BGUMBA, I guess I'm like your husband, cold blooded and I need the heat too. Sun's shining here but it's only in the low 40's so far and not going higher than 50 today.

Barb, the gas prices in CA are terrible. It has amazed me how it always goes up if the price per barrel of crude climbs, but seldom comes back down if the crude price drops. I guess it's the way they plan to get the price to $5/gal across the country.

We're in day 3 of no sunshine and colder temperatures here. DH turned the furnace on yesterday. I would have opted to wear a sweater and keep moving, but I often say he's a rattle snake--cold blooded and needs the heat of the furnance.

Just had my S-I-L take the AC out of our livingroom window because it's suppose to drop to 32* tonight and I wanted to put the heat on. Since I've gotten older, I get cold a lot easier. Once I get a chill, I'm cold all day.
I heard that it's suppose to be colder this winter but not too much snow. Could be wrong, none of the forecasters say the same thing. My Husband always checks the Farmer's Alamack for the weather.

This is going to be one of those days when I don't venture out. I could go pick up my steam mop from my son, but I have to admit that I am feeling a little anxiety over the price of gas....

Judy, it doesn't snow in that area as much as it used to. I remember when I was small that we had a 3 foot snow with drifts so we walked over the 5' back yard fence instead of using the gate. We were out of school for 3 weeks, and when we finally returned, the road was cleared for one lane and it was higher than the buses on each side of the road. Since I left the area 40 years ago, I know of only one 3 footer, and it didn't last very long. I actually laugh at the schools here because they close school as soon as it sticks to the grass (or before). I guess it's all in what you're used to.

Today I'm enjoying beautiful fall weather--windows open and no air conditioning. Hopefully I'm through with the AC until next summer.

Judy, I know what you mean. I am from New York but I've lived in California for most of my life now. I never remember the weather affecting me at all, but now I think I would have a problem with the snow and humidity!

I used to live closer to Lake Michigan and we got lots of snow due to lake effect. I was so happy to be moving away from the lake effect when I moved to lansing. Now I miss the snow with all it's diamonds sparkling on Sunny days. Of course there are more cloudy days there too and I don't miss that. I love the sun no matter what season it is.

I'm originally from Canada, lived in Alberta for many years. When I moved to Virginia almost 16 years ago it was such a difference in climate. The first time there was a 'snow day' my kids stood at the window laughing. There was no such things as a 'snow day' back home. Remember the little brother in Christmas Story? Snow suit... feeling like a fat tick? That was my kids going to school.
I don't know if we could survive those terrible long winters now.

It's never too late...

Not looking forward to cold winter in Michigan. Last years winter was really nice except grandchildren didn't get a chance to go sledding. Rumor has it this winter will make up for lost time. The thing about barrelling through the snow on the road. Sometimes that is the only way not to get stuck especially in my little car. Time to get back to my cleaning my house. Bedroom next and it's the worst.

In Northeast Ohio, we are all such MEN! Nothing stops us, not Lake Effect Snow or a November Witch, or ANYthing The snow piles up and our drivers drive like it's a sunny day.

What idiots.

But if you dont keep up, they run you over.

I am tired of trying to live a normal life with 6" of 'partly cloudy' on the ground and more to follow, and coooold temps.

Can hardly get outside those days, but if you have a job, you better not be one minute late!

Ah Cleveland, I wouldnt trade it for anything.

Here in California we don't get snow, of course, but when it rains everyone goes nuts. They drive extra, extra slowly, and it is a mess.

BGUMBA, sorry I missed your post about living in this area. What a small world! You know exactly what I'm talking about when I say what a pretty area we camp in etc. Our best friends moved to NC a few years ago, and they miss this area too. They come to visit as often as they can.

For some strange reason I've been waking up between 3 and 3:30 am EVERY morning for the past week. I can't figure it out. Then I can't get back to sleep for a couple of hours, and then I end up sleeping in later than I like. Even if I get up at 9, that's sleeping in for me.
I guess it's one more thing to ask my doctor about when I see him next time.

Hope everyone is having a great day... I haven't been tracking the last couple of days, and I've had cravings at night... but I don't think I've gone over calories too much.
Back ON track and TRACKING today.
On the other hand I've been doing much better with my water intake.
Talk to y'all later! emoticon

Judy, I miss the cool temps and being able to see the leaves in the mountains since leaving home. You could say I'm envious of you for still being in my "old stomping grounds."

Barb, I hope the headache is gone and you feel better soon. emoticon

Babb062, I don't mind driving in the snow, but I now live in an area where most of the drivers don't know how to navigate since it doesn't occur here very often. Their driving philosophy seems to be "drive as fast as you can and worry about stopping when (and if) you get to your destination!" emoticon I do like to go out and walk when the ground is covered, it is still snowing, and the world is a quiet place. It's a special "God and me" time.

Today is trying to make churros to see if I want to take them to the International Banquet at church tomorrow night and then back to cleaning cabinets. I'm finding things that I haven't used in years, but can't seem to convince myself to get rid of them! UGH!!!

Sinuses doing better now that the cooler weather is here. I like the snow too but just standing or sitting in the house watching it fall and not having to drive in it.

Leaves haven't turned that much here but when they do we will go on a last time picnic.

Woke up in the wee small hours with a headache--which I haven't had in a long time. I think that the sleep I lost over the last few weeks and the time change hit me--I feel as though a truck ran over me!!

It sounds like everyone has great plans for October.

Babb, I hope the sinusitis gets better soon. I am actually looking forward to the snow--I'm still a kid at heart. I love to watch the snow fall and go for long walks in the snow. I enjoyed sledding in the past, but don't get a chance to do much of that since we now live in the coastal plain!

JumpUp, congratulations good luck with the job. Take every opportunity to get activity in at work and take healthy snacks with you. If it's a desk job, no one says you have to sit completely still. I even try to keep my legs moving while I sit at the computer!

WhiteAngel, I'm looking forward to the cooler weather as well. Just when I thnk it has arrives, the weather changes back to summer again. UGH!

Time for me to get off the computer and get busy with fall cleaning. I did very little yesterday since I spent a lot of time being a "gopher" for dh! LOL

Hi Everyone,
Fall is the best time of the year. Suffered for the first time Acute Sinusitis. Now doctoring with an Allergist. Haven't heard anything about my allergy test yet, so I figure there was nothing wrong. I'm still sniffling though.
I love the colors of the fall and the crisp weather when you walk. Everyone enjoy the season because the snow will be here soon enough emoticon

I started a temp job today, after being out of work for a few years, so I am hoping this month is not so crazy that I lose all the gains I have made (or is that gain all my losses?) Not only do I have to keep up a walking routine and workouts, but I will be dealing with progressively later hours on the job until the election. AND try to use this current job as an asset while looking for a permanent position! Gotta strike while the iron is hot.

I foresee a busy month ahead.

Fortunately I love October, so at least I wont be figthting mid-winter or too-hot-summer blues.

Thank goodness stressful September is gone for me and I can get on with my normal in control life. I am looking foward to the cooler weather (not here today) my skinny comfort foods that I miss during the stiffling months of summer. I am ready for my stews and soups, etc. My school starts for the new working season this month

Keep on track

Just realized it's October 1, so I had to move my post from the September chat and update all my SparkStreak tabs. Anyway, here's my post from the September chat:

Hi, everyone! It's great to hear that everyone is getting their exercise. Starting gradually and building up is a great way to get in the habit, Judy. I like to spend at least 30 minutes on the bike, and dh and I have a 45 minute walking route. Our walking has been lacking this year since evenings have been spent visiting with FIL in the nursing home/skilled care/hospital. Right now I'm struggling to get myself back into a routine of at least 30 minutes of cardio (45 to 60 would be better) and 3 sessions of about an hour of strength training each week. It seems like a lot, but I've found my arthritis doesn't bother me when the muscles are toned and strengthened.

Judy, it's a small world! I live about 20 miles west of Suffolk in the Tidewater area, but grew up about halfway between Blacksburg and Catawba, I spent some time in my teenage years in New River at McCoy and at Clayter Lake. I have a brother who lives just outside the C'burg city limits as well as several other relatives in the area.

This week I plan to get some fall cleaning done so hopefully I will have a house again! Have a great day everyone!
