Been dreary and cooler today. I'm sitting here with my jacket on!

I am going to start a May thread--now!

Hi all, it has been really chilly here but it is finally supposed to get warm now. The average daily temperature for March was higher than April!!

I had a friend try hypnotism to quit smoking but it didn't work. I think that you have to be motivated even without it for it to work. If you are really not committed there really isn't anything that can be a "magic" pill!

Here, too. I had to use the heat several times, which is not common in April!

Babbo, if you use the cookbook and just follow the plan for WW, you don't need to join. BUT--it is all about accountability. I did WW years ago, on the old program, and I lost weight but hit a plateau, stopped going and gained it all back plus some. You should look around and see if WW runs one of their promos, where they don't charge the sign up fee. If you can do that and just pay for the weekly checkins for a couple of weeks, just to get in the swing, so to speak, it might be worth the cost. I agree with you--I have thought in the past of doing it again but it is far too expensive for me.

BGUMBA,
Are you sure that it was April? Around here it seemed like Oct or Nov. Had to get some of my sweatshirts back out. I sure hope that the weather that is around here now stays until Oct.
It's to be in the 80's starting Wed.

I really don't think Hypnotism is for me either but I need some kind of help. My Doctor wants me to join WW but living on a fixed income it will be too hard financially. so I'm on my own. My daughter picked up some WW cook books at a sale and gave them to me so wish me luck because my blood test show that I'm board line diabetic emoticon so I have to do it right this time and no excuses.

Hypnotism isn't for me. I have enough trouble getting my brain to work without someone else trying to control it! :-)

Does everyone have plans to dance around the Maypole tomorrow? It could be a change in the fitness routine.

I'm not sure where April went!!!!

Frannie,
I know what you are talking about. If I could just let the sweets alone. I'm really thinking about going to a hypnotist to see if he can help me with the problem. My daughter feels the same way even though she only has 25 lbs. to loose.

Has anyone gone to a hypnotist?

Hi everyone, I missed it but the 19th of this month marked my 5th year on SparkPeople! One of my class team mates was blogging about it and reminded us of our Sparkiversary. I cannot believe it has been 5 years. I found the site by accident, I wasn't looking for it at all! While I still struggle with my weight, I have picked up some really good habits. I actually exercise pretty regularly! I eat better but still have a problem with sweets!

My mom and dad met in the Corps so I have always had a great fondness for it, even though they were discharged long before I was born.

Recap on the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Ball -
We had a wonderful time. It was one of the more well attended events in years and it is always so exciting to hear the "Commandants Own" Marine Drum and Bugle Corps - such precision!

This is the 50th year for the Foundation and over this time the Foundation has awarded 27,000 scholarships totaling $67,000,000. Further, 79% of the recipients graduate with their bachelor's degree. A wonderful foundation that "Honors Marines by Educating Their Children"

If you know of any children of fallen Marines looking to finance their college - or post graduate studies, they should look into this foundation.

Major fog this morning has burned off for another beautiful day in Philadelphia! Had a wonderful walk around the neighborhood - the colors are fantastic - and being out before the landscape crews ruin the beauty with the non-stop noise.....priceless.

Get to wear my favorite black-tie dress tonight to the Marine Corps Scholarship Ball - a foundation that raises money to provide educational scholarships to the children of fallen marines. Usually a recipient speaks, as do many dignitaries, and some special awards are given out. It is always a moving experience. AND - the best of all? The Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Corps performs....how they march in - the drum line - the music - the decibels!

Looking forward to it. Have a great weekend!

BABBO62 sounds like your granddaughter is doing great. My son is developmentally disabled and I remember (way too many years ago) that it was a struggle getting him trained, but he finally got it. And like your granddaughter, we had a problem when he was sleeping. That too finally kicked in. I'm sure she'll get it soon.

Hi Everyone,
It was and is a beautiful day here in SW PA. Had my little Granddaughter here all day. We are potty training emoticon She did really good all morning but not while she was asleep. She will be 5 in July, with her having Down Syndrome, they say it might take a little longer. We even went shopping and used the bathroom there. I think that she is doing very well. I keep telling her if she keeps going potty and not in her pull ups I'll buy ALL of her dollies something.

Well, got to go and pack stuff for the "This & That Sale on Sat. at our church.

We had a couple of really nice days. It has been a little rainy but not bad, the temp has been pretty warm! Gotta love it!

Today was challenging, I spent half my morning trying to solve problems and sitting on the phone with tech support for 2 different products! While talking to them people are calling me for help! It was definitely not fun. However, most everything got resolved so we are okay now! Just made the day a little extra stressful. I sure hope tomorrow is better.

It's cool and dreary here today. I hope we see some sunshine and warmer temps tomorrow. I did get in a quick workout at the Y yesterday. Hopefully I'll manage to get a longer one this afternoon as soon as I get some sewing out of the way.

I saw out my office window that it was an absolutely gorgeous day here in So. Cal., just wish I could have been out in it :-(. Today was supposed to be my gym day, but the boss needed a ton of paperwork notarized late in the day and I didn't get out of the office til so late I just didn't feel like going...feeling a bit guilty, but I'll make it up somewhere....

Meanwhile, it is just gorgeous today. We are supposed to be getting 80s this week. It might actually be spring at last....

I did get to the gym this morning for a short workout, just cardio, and then carried a box upstairs from the garage. It wasn't that heavy but it was awkward. The garage might actually be at a point that I can start rearranging boxes and sweeping, and be done for the time being.

Barb, I know you'll get back on track this week. emoticon I hope the soreness is all gone now.

Busy day planned for today--sewing, paperwork, grocery shopping, ironing, and of course, a trip to the Y to exercise since it's rainy outside!

I still feel just a little sore, so I must have worked harder than I thought on Saturday. I slept well last night, too, so for once I got out of bed on time and felt fine. I had a bad food weekend so this week is all about trying to get back on track.

Hi Everyone,
Frannie, so glad to hear about your Mom. Prayers do help.
BGUMBA, I do take the calcium with breakfast and supper or if out come home and eat a piece of fruit with it.
The weather here is BEAUTIFUL today in the high 70's maybe even getting to the 80"s.
The weather is really strange this year but not complaining about the winter or spring so far. We are to get some bad storms this afternoon and evening. I can put up with them even if the electric goes out because it's not cold like in the winter.
Trying to walk more today but my left knee is really bad today. Doing laundry and climbing the steps takes a little more time but I keep trucking emoticon Everyone have a good day.

Babb062, glad to hear your test results were good. Be sure to take that calcium with food so it is absorbed.

Franniedid, great news on your mother's tumors. I'm glad they are decreasing in size.

Our weather is continuing in its same crazy pattern--winter for a few days, then summer for a few days. Spring is non-existent. We've gone to near freezing temps at night to lows in the 60s and highs near 90 forecast for today. I'm going to make the best of the weather and get some walking and biking between loads of laundry.

Great news Frannie!

We had a great weekend. Today, not so nice. It's cold, windy and a chance of rain. Perfect weather though for staying inside and cleaning. That's what I plan on doing today.

Hey everyone, it was so chilly this week! It is nice and warm today though a bit gray. Can't have everything even if I want it!

I took my mom to the Dr for a CAT scan and check up on Friday and they said her tumors have gotten smaller! That was unexpected news, we hoped they would only be the same. It looks like she will be with us for a good while yet.

Hi Everyone,
Well went for my 2 test on Tues. and got the results today. Bone density is very good, I guess because I drink a lot of skim milk and the Mammogram was normal. My Dr. sent me the results about the bone test and said I have alot of arthritis that could be why it was on the plus side. She told me to take 2 calcium +D pills a day to be on the safe side. I already take one split, 1/2 in the am and 1/2 in the pm plus a multi-vitamin with both in it.
ImageLover, hope you are doing better.

ImageLover, hope you're feeling much better after some time in the pool. Hopefully the bruises will be gone soon.

Scootergirl, good luck with the cloud. I've heard some interesting tales about those conversions as well.

Frannie, sorry about the server problems. Computers can be really frustrating when they don't do what we expect them to do. My problem is that my curiosity gets the best of me, and I will spend hours or days until I figure out what is causing mine to "misbehave." Hopefully you will have a new network administrator soon.

Computer problems are the worst. I hate getting new technology because the setup just stresses me out. Generally, when I finally start to do it, I find it isn't that bad, but I worry about it for sometimes weeks!

Hi all; Frannie I am not even going to pretend I know what you are talking about. I do understand that you are frustrated though. Sorry about that. I hate computers and anything to do with technology. I have a printer that goes with this computer but no one can hook it up and get it to work. So I have a brand new printer that is about 4 years old that has never been used. I have a camcorder that has pictures on it from 3 Christmas's ago now and can't figure how to download to the computer. Three people have tried. I give up.

I felt good yesterday when getting home from the ER. but today my back and neck hurt and I have bruises on the inside of my thigh near my groin. I must have hit the tub before falling back. Like Oprah calls it my VaJ hurts. I didn't go shopping today that is for sure. I am beginning to regret not taking the pain pill prescription. I hate them things though. A friend is going to drop me off at the pool and I am going into the therapy pool and just hang by a noodle. That should help some.

Hi everyone! This is now the 1st sticky topic so we won't lose it!!

What a morning, (I am going into techie talk so bear with me, I need to vent!) A week ago we had a power outage and our back up batteries did not keep things up as long as our tech director thought they would. We tried to shut everything down but some of the servers shut down when the power ran out! Caused no end of problems that we are still paying for today. To add to that the server in my building (I work in a grade school) keeps rebooting which is playing havoc with everything everyone is trying to do! It is up now and has been running without restarting for about an hour. In the meantime I am getting calls from all of the secretaries to tell me that something is down (which I already know!). Our network administrator left for a new job, one of our techs in on vacation so there are 2 of us for 5 buildings!!! I am losing my mind!

Sorry about the fall. I have a mat in my tub--I bought it when my mother stayed with me several years ago and brought it out of the linen closet after my knee replacement in November and have been using it ever since. I discovered that the rubber mat is much warmer on the feet when you're trying to save energy in the winter! LOL

I grow peppers in the summer and freeze them. If you have a sunny area (even a flower bed), the only maintenance they would require is watering during the dry season. I like freezing peppers since they don't require any blanching--either slice or chop them and stick them in the freezer. For soups and chili, I like to chop them up and freeze them in one cup servings so I can just pull a bag out and toss the contents in the soup pot.

Virginia weather has been up and down like a yoyo so far this month. We went from 89 on Wednesday to low 50s on Thursday. We had frost a couple of nights this week, so the early gardeners had to do a lot of work to cover up some of their veggies. I hope it didn't damage the strawberries since the pick-your-own strawberry fields are starting to open in the area! YUM! YUM!

Plans this week include trying to get some sewing done for daughter while she is out of school on Easter break. It's so much easier when she's at home for fitting!

Barb, can you make this thread a sticky topic since last year's April thread may cause some confusion (especially for me)? Thanks!!!!

I guess I am going to have to look into getting a mat. Thing is I have a shower chair. I tripped getting in. I have one of those old fashioned high claw feet tubs.

Do be careful! We also have a mat the full length of the tub for my mom. It helps the rest of us too.

Ouch! gotta watch those slippery tubs. I have a mat the full length of the tub because my Hubby slipped one day. He didn't get hurt but being 70 it's a miracle.
Hope you feel better very soon. Didn't anyone bring you some food when you got home? emoticon

HI all. I was suppose to go to my Mom's house. I fell in the shower this morning and ended up in the ER. Nothing too bad. I have a mild concussion and bruised should and neck. He said I will be sore for a few days. I missed dinner and family for that. emoticon

Hi all, Happy Easter and Passover. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, we are having a small family dinner this evening. It gets hard trying to juggle with the kids spouse, boyfriends families. So I eat later in the day so the kids can be here. That is after they have had full meals elsewhere!

Hope everyone has a very nice Easter. Going to church then to my youngest daughter's for the afternoon with her family and in-laws.
Not looking forward to the week. Going Tues. for a Mammo and bone density test. Wish me luck that everything turns out OK. Need your prayers. Thanks.

Hoping everyone has a real nice Easter. I am going to my Mom's but we have been invited else where this year. I haven't seen these people in 8 years, and I feel a little uncomfortable, but I will go to be with my Mom. I will then spend the night at my Mom's so we can go shopping on Monday.
