Frannie, I'm having trouble adjusting to the sudden change in weather here as well. To go from 89 yesterday to 55 and rainy today has been rough. I hope the freeze stays away since strawberries are starting to ripen here. If the weather doesn't kill them, the fields should be open for picking in a week or 2 (which is a little early here!

Had plans for the day which might get kiboshed! Last night I discovered a leak in the pipes at the water turnoff outside, so the plumber is now here getting ready to fix it. Of course, there was more to fix since he is here, so time and $$$$$.

Debby, you are not nuts, people have started running after 60! So go for it. You may find you really like it.

Hello everyone, sorry I have been MIA but the last week at work has been intense, I don't even want to look at a computer when I get home!!! It has gotten chilly here, we are even supposed to get a freeze in the next few days. That will be hard to take after all the warm days we have had!

Hi Debby - A little late, but I started running on and off after 52 and now at 56 started back up again. Like earlier advice, start slow and work your way up!

Good luck!!

You can do the running, just get medical clearance and start off gradually to reduce the risk of injury. This article may be helpful in planning your future runs: www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness

I have--in fact, after 60! Unfortunately, I did something to my foot so I haven't run at all since December.

Sounds like you had a great day SCOOTERGRL1! It's great to have some of the the little things out of the way. Today I have to tackle my bedroom--thank goodness there are bedroom doors because it was the one part of the house that didn't get the attention it needed last week! emoticon

I actually got a few "quickie" projects done today before Bro and family arrived. Felt good to finally get a few things done that needed attention. Had a nice lunch (ate Lebanese cuisine for the first time), all in all a pretty good day! emoticon

Getting started is my problem, but if I can find a lot of "quickie" projects to do first, then I'll feel like I've accomplished a lot. If I remember this trick, I can often keep going longer, or else just wait until I have no other choice and have to "cram" everything into a short period (which was what happened to me this week!) emoticon

I get that way too...start out gangbusters then nothin. I have a lot of projects I need to get done but can't seem to get motivated. Got the granddaughter for a sleep-over tonight so I know I won't get anything done again. I haven't even gotten my income taxes done yet, ugh!!

My problem is that I'm gung ho when I start a project, but if I get interrupted (which always happens around here), I can come up with all kinds of great excuses not to get back to it. Besides, why clean--everything is just going to get dirty again! emoticon

Time for me to get busy inside so hopefully I'll get a chance to spend some time outside this afternoon. If I can accomplish everything today, then I'll also have time to relax before MIL arrives tomorrow afternoon.

Frannie, thanks for the info! I know those with mobility issues will find it useful.

Barb, I guess the cooler, rainy weather has made sleeping in a lot easier for you. A warm snuggly bed during rainy, cool weather is the place I want to stay.

I'm still working on the house cleaning here--company coming this weekend, so it's a good time to tackle spring cleaning!

Hey guys, there is a new Center on Spark People for Limited Mobility. I know many of our members struggle with this problem whether it is from arthritis, heart disease or other causes and this will be very helpful for them. Do share this! They have pulled together all of the resources for those with mobility problems to make it easier to find.

Bonnie, we both just have to deal with it!! LOL!

I stayed in bed later than I wanted--again! I have been sleeping a little worse than usual lately and the bed is so cozy....

We had a lot of rain yesterday and last night, but the sun has broken through this morning, so I am hoping that we get back to normal, even if it is a little cold.

VTLOVER62, please come to my house. Tackling the pantry and closets are something I really need to do, but keep putting off. I've got to get them done as part of my spring cleaning, so this week is it. There is so much "stuff" that needs to go, but some how I have problems getting rid of it.

Today is's headed for the 70s here, but tonight it's back to normal March weather--low 30s and then in the 50s tomorrow. Since it was rainy all weekend, I'm going to get some exercise outside today as well as working on my cleaning.

I did not do any formal exercise but I cleaned the house for most of the day. hauled everything out of my closet and went through them to see what fits and what does not and then organized it. I also cleaned the spare room and rearranged all my crafts. Did 2 loads of laundry and put them away and sweapt and mopped and vaccumed the whole house so I think I got enough exercise in for the day. I AM BEAT

Got my "at home" workout done then went to my granddaughter's soccer game. She's 5 and they are so dang cute out there! Then went to my boyfriend's house to dig in the dirt and get ready to plant veges...It's really nice out today.

You're having warmer weather than we are, Bonnie. Today the high is about 65 and the sky is very overcast. It's been warming up during the day this week, but I think it's going to stay cold today.

Better late than never! I've been posting on the February Chat, but Barb finally told me there was a March thread. I thought I had looked for it earlier in the mont, but missed it somehow.

March has been a wild month, but hopefully I'm going to be able to get back into a routine now. I'm starting my "heavy duty" spring cleaning today since brother-in-law and girl friend will be bringing mother-in-law for a few days' visit. MIL has dementia, so I won't have a chance to get much done during the day while she is here. Hubbie is great, so hopefully I'll be able to get to the Y for workouts at night while she is here.

Spring has definitely arrived here--the temps have been in the 70s and 80s for the past couple of weeks, and everything is yellow-green from the pine pollen. As soon as that is over, then the oaks will share their pollen as well. I have to go out and flush the sidewalks, porches, vehicles, and driveways with water so we won't track so much into the house. Of course, within an hour or 2, everything is coated again.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Frannie, I love challenges! Whatever you come up with sounds great. If others are interested, we could do a team challenge to go so many miles in a certain amount of time. I've been in challenges to go across the US and Canada as well as around the world on other teams counting mileage from any activity--walking, biking, elliptical, swimming. People could post their mileage whenever they wanted--daily, weekly, monthly, and then just keep a running tally of the miles by adding theirs to the previous total.

Scootergrl1, I am so sorry, that is so difficult. A couple of years ago I had to make that decision for my dear dog Rosie, she was 15 and so very sick. We hated to let her go but could not see her suffer like that. I will keep you in my thoughts and in my heart! emoticon emoticon

Very sad, took my grouchy old lady to the vet and found out she had so many problems including lymphoma of the stomach that I had to make the hardest decision I've ever made in my life to let her go while she was still out (they had to put her out to take blood, x-rays, etc.). I could have gotten medicine to make her feel better for a little bit, but that was just putting off the inevitable, she was really too old to go through all of that. It's been a really bad couple of days.....but at least she's not suffering.

We have 2 very elderly cats and one of them starting spraying and having accidents in the house. He has hyperthyroidism. He is taking a thyroid medication now which hasn't helped a huge amount with the accidents, we have had to confine him to a part of the house where he can't hurt anything. He is 15 and I understand it is not unusual for elderly cats. He got very thin which is normal with his condition, the pills stopped the weight loss but he hasn't put much back on.

I have an eighteen year old cat, too and she has problems occasionally with the litter box. The big problem is her brother who is 13--he was always a problem about using the box, then he was fine for years and lately he has been having "accidents"--which aren't accidental at all. He's telling me something but I can't figure out what.

Well, it looks like spring has arrived here in N Fl. We have lovely azealas in bloom. My young plants are triving and my roses are starting to bloom. I will be deadheading some of them next week. My herbs are really growing and I am already cutting them back. Hubby is putting in the tomatoe and pepper plants this week. I am really excited about fresh tomatoes and pepper to go with our herbs.

Keep on track

I wish I could sleep til 7:10! I was up at 4:30, did my "at home" workout and got to work at 7. I need a nap.

I'm nervous...have to take my little old lady kitty (she's almost 18 yrs old) to the vet. Having tummy problems and not using the litter box problems...I'm afraid of what they will tell me emoticon

I am trying to break my not getting up when I want to--I did get out of bed at 7:10 this morning. It's a step in the right direction.

Sounds good!

Sleeping late for me is 7:30--it's just a little later than I like to get up and it affects me for the day. I managed to get up about 7:10 this morning, so I split the difference.

I slept in too, 8:30! That's late! Today was my day off from working out although I should have after all the bad stuff I ate at my granddaughters birthday party yesterday. But just couldn't pass up home made chocolate cherry cake with fudge frosting and vanilla bean ice cream, YUM! Plus the lasagne and garlic bread we had for lunch....I was very bad....but it was soooo good!

I got myself out to the gym this morning, although I was late getting out of bed--again! GOsh, I really need to break this new habit.

How wonderful walking in a forest. I have been ill for 3 weeks-ended with bronchitis. Could not exercise. Very frustrating.

What a great day,It finally quit raining and snowing after a week of the stuff. It felt wonderful to walk in the forest. Allof the creeks and the river that flows through are roaring because of all the runoff.

I'm cranky, too! It's a rainy day, and I overslept. Got to the gym for my regular Saturday morning, and after about 5 minutes ont he elliptical, the alarms went off in the building and everyone had to leave! This happened one Saturday earlier this year and they had everyone out of the building for well over an hour, so I decided to just cut my losses and go home. I did get a lot done in the garage, but I am still annoyed that I missed out on my workout!

Hope you feel better VT. Take good care!

I got my 5 miles in after work, feel good about that. Get to sleep in a little tomorrow, then going to my granddaughter's 5th birthday party, fun!! But I know there's gonna be junk food and of course cake so I better try to get a workout in in the morning too, cause I probably won't be able to resist!

Hey guys, I wanted to introduce you to my current favorite website! It is Pinterest pinterest.com/ . It is a site that allows you to "curate" the web. You add a bookmarklet to your browser and then you can "Pin" sites you like to boards. You just go back to them to view the things you pinned. I pin recipes, decorating and gardening ideas, ideas for my granddaughter, all kinds of things. It is easy and you can follow other people and share your finds. It is a really nice way to save a collection of all of those websites you want to go back to!

Good for you VT, but isn't it still dark at 5:45am??!! I don't think I could walk around here that early, not that it's a bad neighborhood, but you never know. I'm sticking to the treadmill at the gym for now, but would really like to get outside and do my run/walk. I did get in my 5 miles today, but it's really boring!

I actually went for the walk alone and put him on his run. I do a walk with him in the afternoon. We have a huge field out behind our house so I take him out there and throw a ball and let him go nuts for a while...

I also would like some challenges. Even if it is just to do water one week and then post daily for a week. then give stars or something to those people that stay connected. I come ever day to try and keep myself in check

VTLover, getting out for a walk at 5:45 am is great! I guess having to walk the dog is a good motivation. I had another day of just not wanting to get out of bed!

VTLOVER62, you are the bomb! I went for a walk with my mom yesterday, she hasn't really done any walking since last summer so it was very nice for her. I hope we can do it again today! It is supposed to be almost 80! In Chicago! In March!

I was trying to come up with a good idea to "Spark" the team! I have noticed that we are not posting as often and people are not joining in as much as we might want. Teams really do help with motivation so I am looking for ideas!

One idea that I had was to have everyone greet a new member each week, you guys are good about greeting new comers but I think we can do even better. Another idea was to have us send each other Goodies, pick a new person on the team to send a goodie to, especially if you don't know them. Just once a week would not take much time for either of these ideas and it might motivate others to join in the chat and help support each other.

I also am trying to come up with new challenge ideas. I want something easy, that won't require too much posting. I would like to continue with a monthly challenge but also we need one or two ongoing challenges. What do you guys think? For an April monthly challenge I thought a strength training challenge might be a good idea!

I did it again today I think part of it is that it is 66 degrees here in vermont in March. I woke up and let the dog out and it was beautiful. So I put my shoes on and took off for a mile and a half walk at 5:45.A.M.

Went to the gym and did a couple of errands after. I agree about getting up in the morning--I am still having a problem with the time change--just don't want to get up at that (real) hour!
