This is actually from 2011. I had to read through the posts and see dates of 4/17 and 4/18 before I realized what was going on! LOL
I'll ask Barb to fix the other one so it stays at the top of the team posts for us.

for POWER 1938 and FARMERLOU for getting rid of temptations. That is really great. Barbara, it nice that you had a better day yesterday.Hope today is even much better. This way I am doing fine today so far on the exercise part, I walked during lunch break as it had stopped raining. We in the end of year celebrations so tonight we going to the achievement award party and tomorrow is nature harvest banquet, I hope that the menu will have some healthy dishes. I tend to blow my good habits during parties. I normally refuse to go to most of these but this my DH is presenting the achievement awards and we were invited as our dean's guest for tomorrow's function, no way out. I will make sure to drink water before and during the meals. Take care and keep sparking because you all rock!!

Good job 1938. I still have a carrot cake staring at me with all that cream cheese frosting. I hope to put it down the disposal tomorrow. I also still havejelly beans. My husband loves those but he is traveling. I don't have the will to turn it away all the time, so tomorrow is the day to get rid of temptations!! I did go to my workout class yesterday and walked 2 miles today. It was a stressful week with school board issues and I am surprised I did 't resort to emotional eating. I sat down last night and ate a bowl of corn instead of a slice of cake. I find it best to have clean cupboards and frig to avoid big downfalls. happy night to all and heres for a better tomorrow.

OK! I overdid during Easter. This afternoon, when I came back from work, I cleaned out the refrigerator & got rid of all the tempting leftovers that I still had including the lemon-lime refrigerator cake, the black olives, etc. Tomorrow, I am back with the program. There is a bowl of chocolate eggs on the table & I couldn't bring myself to throw them out, but I'm finding some people to share them with. Just because I slipped off the straight & narrow, I don't plan to stay at the side of the road!!!!

Barbara: Hope today is a better day than yesterday. High blood pressure is bad for headaches you should get it checked out and drink a lot of water. BECKYANNE1: Rain seems to be everywhere this day. It has been raining since yesterday and there is no stopping until Saturday. I will do indoor walking today. Let us hope May will come in with Sunshine.

I feel for you with the headaches. I had one the other day. Unfortunately I get way too many headaches. Today I'm hoping to continue on my healthy journey and get in my 10k steps. I just wish the sun would shine for a change. Would make things much easier and would give me that much needed energy.

I know that I could have been better foodwise the last few days but I could have been much worse, too.
I had a bad day yesterday--stressfull, and woke up this morning with my blood pressure much higher than normal and a splitting headache. And I never get headaches anymore.

Hello All! Hope this day has plans for good nutrition and plenty of exercise. We are in a very rainy pattern here in the midwest so my fitness minutes will all have to be indoors on my EQ. I have some lovely produce I purchased yesterday for a nice salad. We are getting into that time of year when the selections will be more varied and fresh!
Have a great day!

I didn't pay attention to calories this weekend. I know I should have, but I didn't. Today was suppose to be a better day, but I woke with a major headache and it's another crappy day. After a good nights sleep tonight, I'm hoping to be back to my old self tracking away. I need to get past the bad weekends and start taking care of myself on the weekends. I always seem to indulge. It's my fault. I just let myself go and it's getting worse. I need to snap out of it now! A better day tomorrow. I'm thinking positive!

Glad to get past Easter and on to a successful week. Ate some of those jelly beans, butonly 2 chocolate eggs. Did indulge in some wine but on to a new week. I must admit holidays are very difficult for me. But, on the positive, I sent leftovers home with everyone in an attempt to get my frig and cupboards back to normal. I do not do well with temptations in my house. One of these days I will get better butwith only my husband and I at home, there is no reason to kee[ temptations around.

Happy (Easter) Monday - been away on a college trip. I had to let you know 2 things:
1) I am not sure that Southern California actually has sun....LOL we go out west for some college visits in LA and San Fran and over 4 days we only see the sun on the last day up north in San Fran and while it was sunny, I think it was only 60. Looking back - I am glad I was not sweltering in 80 degrees on those tours!
2) I didn't gain a pound! We would stop at the local supermarket and pick up food for b.fast and lunch, so I could grab 100% whole wheat bagels, rolls and lean lunch meats. I did enjoy some wine with dinner and made excellent choices for each of my wonderful meals. The best meal for me was on Fisherman's Warf at the Boudin (?) Sourdough restaurant on the top floor - had 3 sourdough (very thin) tortillas. 2 with crab and 1 with shrimp - the tortillas were very thin and the extras were cabbage, avocado and other assorted veggies!! Yum.
Now all I have to do is work off those mini choc. foil eggs by Thursday's weigh-in.
Remember: Whenever you point a finger, there are 3 more pointing back at yourself. Take responsibility and lead by example.

What a great idea Suzanne.!!!! As the saying goes that any plan will fail if it is not executed. Planning ahead is the key to adding calorie dense food items to any eating plan. Enjoy the eggs and run a mile!!!! Have a great week end. Molly

Easter Weekend is upon us! I thought I would suggest to you that if Easter candy is in your future you PLAN for it ahead of time so that you don't blow your weekend calorie range! Allow yourself some calories to eat a few treats. Here are examples:
14 Brach's Jelly Bird Jelly Beans are 150 calories 1 Russell Stover Chocolate Covered Marshmallow egg is 110 calories 12 Cadbury Mini Eggs are 190 calories 1 Reese's Peanut Butter Egg (1.2 oz) is 170 calories 1 Russell Stover Coconut Nest is 160 calories 1 Cadbury Creme Egg is 170 calories 6 Dove Milk Chocolate Eggs are 240 calories 1 Small Lindt Gold Bunny is 270 calories.
Now, with that information in hand (and much more available if you google) decide ahead of time what you are willing to give up in your daily calorie range to accommodate your treats.
Don't let holidays, birthdays, weekends, eating out, etc. put you in the pitstop. There are too many days of the year we can find an excuse to eat poorly. Be sensible. If you know you want candy - then by all means PLAN for it!
Now drink your water and get in a little cardio. There is a big Easter basket trying to slow your progress to "Health & Fitness".
Hop On!

Pinkhope: on your 2.9 lb loss, hospitals are scary on most part but I think when it comes to having not tempting snacks, that is great news, even though you might have been hungry. Hope that your DH feels well very soon. Well we got our snow/freezing rain yesterday and today the roads are good. We might get some sunshine later today. I tried Turbofire easy 55 class, well i did not find anything easy about it, I still have to learn the language and the moves but even with low impact option I was sweating buckets. I do not think I can do the exercise every day as the schedule suggest so I am going to do them on alternating with Slim in 6 either RIU or BIU and I am planning double work out on the weekend (either Turbofire/walk with Leslie or Slim in 6/walk). I will keep you posted on how this works since we have a very long weekend coming. Enjoy a very safe and Happy Easter Week end all you ladies.

Okay - WHO hid spring? Is this a form of easter egg hunt? We all have to go out searching in our winter coats, hats and gloves? Ha!
It's a cold 40F right now with a windchill of 32 and gloomy and damp. If it wasn't for the budding trees and forsythia I would not know it was spring!
DH is still not feeling well. He got out of the hospital on Monday night and is not due for his follow-up appt. until Monday so he called the dr. back and we are awaiting a call. I hope she can see him sooner.
BTW - I lost 2.9 pounds this week in spite of the hospital stay. I will admit the hospital was a near foodless zone. The cafeteria closed at 5:00 and there was nothing in the vending machines I would eat so I survived on very little and did a LOT of hall walking!
Barbara - Sorry about the forgotten bag when you went to the park. Not having one's water is really hard when you are exercising.
Missy - Glad SOMEBODY has nice weather! Ha!
Molly - I have Leslie Sansone's dvds and they are great! I really used them a lot in the winter when it was icy and snowy out - WAIT it's STILL snowy out - hahah!
Power - I too miss those innocent days of childhood and the easter egg hunt on the church grounds. I remember so well we would get orchid corsages to wear to church and we had to wait until after church to eat easter candy!

I found in door walking CD by Leslie Sansone, they really make exercise great fun and doable. Last I did the (2 and 3 mile walk with the ab belt). I had planned on trying turbo fire but I left work late and opted for a walk. It was great and I think the walk helped have a good night sleep. April weather is a mixed bag of tricks, it rains, snows and adds in nice sun shine. I suppose we will have to take it. When do you normally start planting anything outside Beckanne?. Here in PEI i think June 10 is when we start outside gardening because before that the ground is both hard and cold. We expecting Snow this afternoon so you are not alone seeing white!!!. take heart it will not stay long on the ground. Have a great Wednesday. Molly

The weather here has been snowy and miserable. You would think we were back into winter. It was looking so green and now it's a blanket of white. Hopefully we'll see some sun soon so it will all melt. I'm so ready for planting. I've been doing my workouts inside again too. I would love to get back outside and walk. Sunshine and warmth also gets me in a great mood and I get alot of energy.

Here in Tennessee, we have had two beautiful days, but it is cloudy here right now. I am glad the kids at Church got to hunt their Easter eggs right after Mass yesterday...it was perfect & brought back memories of when I was a kid! We had our last practice for the Easter music and there are services starting Thursday evening & running through the two services on Easter Sunday. the choir sings on Thursday for Holy Thursday Mass & at the 10:30 am Mass on Sunday. We're having a healthy dinner on Easter Sunday & I promise not to eat chocolate bunnies! I wish all the team members a blessed Holy Week & a very Happy Easter!

Wow, Pinkhope--snow! Yesterday it was right around 90--and very warm. I am not a fan of warm weather. I had plans yesterday to meet a few people for a walk int he park and a potluck, plans which were made before the weather turned. I ended up realizing when I got to the park that I had left my carefully packed bag at home, including my water bottle. It was a disaster for me. I think I'll blog about it--I felt terrible all day!

90 is a little warm, but at this point I'd take it. It sure beats the snow we're having. Good thing I was planning on doing housework, etc. today. My plans won't be ruined. I'm so tired of this goofy weather. I'm ready to get outside and do some work. Have a great weekend everyone.

We've got a really nice farmers market here in the summer. It has really grown throughout the years. I love getting fresh veggies. We do have a garden, but we don't have the room to grow all of the stuff I'd like. The only problem with the Farmers Market, is that it doesn't last long enough. It's so depressing when the season comes to an end. We've had really nice weather lately. Hopefully the farmers have been able to get out into their fields. We are suppose to have rain later today and then the rest of the week looks wet and cool.

Oh, that is seriously cool!
I live in a semi-rural area. I'm going to be looking for produce stands soon. They're all still closed for the winter, but it shouldn't be much longer.

Talking about winter produce. In the summer when peppers are so plentiful (I work for a Farmer's Market vendor) and I get all the peppers that I can handle. Sweet peppers...hot peppers...I cut them in slices and freeze them in zip lock bags. Then in winter and even now, I take out a bag of the frozen peppers and put them in soups, casseroles, anything that calls for peppers. I have not bought a store pepper in over 2 years.

Michelle - I will have to try that with zucchini! Great idea! MUCH cheaper than red peppers too (at least until summer). HA!
Thanks!

Happy Friday All!
Blueberries are a WONDERFUL food (nutrients). Sadly my favorite way to eat them is in desserts - haha!
I hope everyone has some fun weekend plans! I am excited about spring. We had rain all night - the kind of set in rain that makes it fun to sleep. It's kind of booming out there now but I know this rain means green grass and spring flowers ahead!
Just as an encouragement to all of you - the AHA is promoting walking right now. It is heart healthy and with spring coming it's time to get the tennis shoes out of the closet and check out what's budding in your neighborhood!

Blueberries (frozen) are the one fruit I keep in the freezer. I love just tossing a 1/2 cup or so into my oatmeal in the morning when I want something a little different.

Barbara I hear you on the price of produce. In the winter I almost feel guilty paying 2.50 a piece for the peppers but my husband knows how much this soup helps me stay the course and always says it's cheaper than buying 3 meals of Fast Food and he's right!
I think the worst thing about winter produce is the lack of freshness. It's just "dull" and less flavorful to me. The thing I miss the most in winter is a good ear of corn!
Hope you are all having a wonderful week!

I love red peppers. I will try to keep the soup in mind when produce starts reappearing at a reasonable price. I do keep a jar of roasted red peppers in my refrigerator, and like to thrown some into the processor when I make hummus. It is a nice addition.

Annie - It's one of my "go to" foods. When I'm really wanting to eat between meals I dish up a bowl and it fills my tummy for very few calories! Someone told me that it would make a good chilled soup as well, but I have never tried it that way. Maybe this summer I will!
Hope everyone is having a lovely Thursday. My DH comes home tonight from his business trip so I'm going to do some cleaning.

Thanks for posting this recipe. I love roasted red peppers and garlic so this sounds really good. I make a similar pasta sauce. After roasting the peppers, garlic and a medium onion, I puree the same ingredients you used, but instead of using chicken broth I add just enough vegetable broth to make a pasta sauce consistency. It is a nice change from tomato sauce. I find it goes well with whole grain pastas and tastes great on chicken or white fish. I have also used a jar of roasted red peppers when i was short on time. I will be trying your soup. thanks again

You asked for it you got it! I made this recipe back in the days of WW (it was zero points per serving). I still love it. It's a great way to get a veggie and it's very filling to the tummy. Enjoy!
Suzanne's Roasted Red Pepper Soup
6-7 large red peppers 2 cans or 1 box of fat free reduced sodium chicken broth 1 clove of garlic 1 tsp dried basil 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp coarse black pepper 1/8 -1/4 tsp of dried red pepper flakes
Roast the veggies to enhance their flavor. You will make 6-7 packets with aluminum foil. Wash the peppers, remove the stem and membranes and cut in long strips. Put the strips in the foil and fold up to seal. In one of the packets also put the clove of garlic (not the whole garlic but one section with outer skin peeled off). Place in a 230 oven for one hour and 15 minutes.
When the buzzer goes off in a large kettle put the chicken broth, the contents of all the packets (including any juice/fluid) and 1 level t of basil, 1/2 teaspoon of coarse black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of salt (reduce if you need to) and 1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon of crushed red pepper depending on how hot you want it. Bring to a boil over medium heat, lower the heat til it just simmers and let it simmer COVERED one hour.
When the hour is up, get a second large pan and strain all the liquid contents into it. You should have some spicy broth in the pan and all your pepper solids in the strainer. You need to puree these in your blender or food processor. Puree them well - this is what gives the soup body (no dairy, no flour - low cal). Now strain the puree into the broth. You will have to stir the puree some in the strainer to get it to go down. When finished you will have a sort of fibrous pulp left in the strainer (discard that). Stir the soup!
This is super low calorie and very good. I like mine hot and use 1/4 tsp. of the red pepper flakes.
Enjoy!
P.S. If you have calories to give - you could drizzle a tiny bit of light sour cream on top and garnish with one fresh leaf of basil

Ouch! I empathize, LadyIrish.
Roasted red pepper soup does sound good. Today is kind of drear and chilly--the cracy SoCal weather--so I might just take out some soup for lunch. My empty nest is getting a visitor tonight--my son is coming over for dinner and Survivor.

Car trouble today, so I have to lose a day's pay. I can't afford to get it fixed until Saturday (after payday), so I've arranged to carpool with a coworker tomorrow and Friday. I just can't catch a break for anything.

Good Evening!
DH is on a business trip so it's just me and the pets. I've done some chores and made a big pot of roasted red pepper soup today. Now I'm settlng in with an old movie "Mrs. Miniver" and answering some email and posts.
Barbara - A walk sounds great. I think we have cold rain the rest of the week so my walking will have to be on the treadmill.
Garvco - My hubby went to World Jamboree at the base of Mt. Fuji at 14 by himself. Eagle scouts are ALWAYS prepared! I say let him go! He's got a good head on his shoulders. Send him with a cellphone!

I actually went out for a walk yesterday. A big part of it was just having to get out of the house, but I felt antsy, too. Whatever the reasons, it was a good outcome.
Garvco, my son applied to UChi but ended up going to Berkeley (which was his first choice). That's a hard decision to make, but I know you will make the right one (as far as letting him visit on his own). How far do you live from Chicago?

G'morning, all :)
GARVCO, hmmmm ... he's well traveled, that's good! I'd say, depends. I'll send you a message.
Didn't have time to get on the treadmill yesterday - picked up hubby at the airport after work (he came home from a turkey hunting trip - no gobbler in the freezer, alas!). By the time we had dinner and caught up on the goings-on, it was 10:30 and I was too tired to walk. Also knew the endorphins would keep me up for hours. Oh well, I'll walk tonight :)
Have a healthy day!

Zanball, that is awesome! It is much nicer to buy clothes when they fit well and you feel good in them. I have to get a new dress, my granddaughter's christening is coming up and we have a big retirement party at the end of the school year that I will need a dress for. I have a basic black dress that I have worn for almost everything but I really want something new!
It is supposed to be in the 50s this week, maybe a few 60's too depending on what channel you watch! I can't wait. I have been anxious to take the baby for walks, we are babysitting for the first time this Sunday and I am so excited!!!

Zanball - fantastic on the clothes shopping! stinking to it certainly does pay off!
We hit 71 here in Philadelphia yesterday - felt great. Today? Warm already, but no sun really. I am hoping the showers are done, so that when I head out for my 40 min burst of walking I don't get poured upon. Haven't gotten back to the virtual 5K - why? not sure, running is NOT a favorite exercise.
Zanball - my son is looking at U Chicago - he want to go see it on his own .... fly out and back...get there himself - 17 and nearly an Eagle Scout with much travel experience under his belt. what do you think?

I'd love to have a 70 degree day again. It's been in the low 50's here in MN. If only the sun would stay out. We have alot of April showers in the forecast this week. I'm going to get out and walk outside after dinner tonight. I do my inside workout in the morning. I hope everyone has a nice Tuesday.

It hit 70 degrees for a short while here in Chicago yesterday afternoon, so I took the opportunity to do my 5 miles outside. It was glorious - even though overcast, it was soooooo nice to be outside again! Cold again today - alas, that's winter/spring in Chicago!
Woo Hoo, did I ever have a GREAT Saturday! I went clothes shopping for the first time since last summer (when clothes shopping was something to be dreaded and fretted over!). Figured I'd better start really early to find something I'd feel okay in for my step daughters' graduation in May (yeah, that's how long it takes me to find something I think I look good in!!) I'm back in my "regular" size woo hoo and even finding it a little too loose now :) :) Made for an amazingly wonderful day - I actually fit into the first skirt I tried on!! And bought it on the spot!! See me dancing around the dressing room?? LOL!!

It was so warm here yesterday and today the temp is just dropping!! I am so tired of this cold weather, it seems like winter never ends here!!! Oh well, just a few more weeks, I guess I can make it. It just seems like I have no motivation at all right now and I do think a part of that is the lack of sun and the cold damp weather!!

Wow, got up this morning ready to exercise and realized as I was driving to the gym that I was running on empty. And it was so hard for me to work out that I did end up cutting it shorter than usual. I have noticed this happen to me before, and my challenge is to recognize that it happens and do something about it before I go out.

Warming up, but not warm enough, here in MA! Maybe up into the 50's today. Makes for a spring feel, especially after yesterday's snow, rain, and just raw cold! Have a great weekend!

Good morning to all! It's a sunny day here in Tennessee & I am up & going. Saturday is weighing day for me. I was happy to see that I held on to my 2 lb weight loss of last week & that my Body Mass Index is a healthy 23.3. I logged 120 minutes of cardio exercise during the week. I'd like to lose about 3.5 lbs more, but am not in a big hurry--it's to give me a little margin for any holiday! LOL! Go team!!!!

In West Virginia, to start April off right, we have had sleet, and snow! Yuck! Welcome April!

Tagrant, it is odd isn't it? We are looking forward to summer and you are thinking winter! The internet has made life so much more interesting!!!

Now that's a nice way to open my day .... thoughts of sunny South Africa! Autumn is my favorite season here in Philadelphia, PA. The heat is off so exercising and working out in the yard is more pleasant and of course its Field Hockey season! Thanks for some great thoughts to chase away the snow-rain showering my neighborhood this morning.

Here in Northern California we seem to have skipped directly from winter to summer with no stop for spring!
